Wireless sync step 4 of 4

my iphone gets stuck on step 4 of 4 when syncing with ios5.  why?

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Turn off and restart the mobile device.
2. If the device is connected via USB, connect it to a built-in port on the computer, not to a hub. If it's already connected to a built-in port, try a different one. Also try a different cable, if you have one. You can also try to sync over Wi-Fi.
3. Delete the iPod Photo Cache. Quit and relaunch iTunes.
4. Check the names of all albums and slideshows in iPhoto. The names should contain only plain letters and digits, not any punctuation marks or other characters. Rename them if necessary.
5. Remove the soundtrack from any iPhoto slideshows that have one. If sync now works, you may be able to restore the soundtracks.
6. Repair or rebuild the iPhoto library. Be sure to back it up first.

  • Why wont iTunes wirelessly sync with my iPhone 5?

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help me.
I have an iPhone 5, I am running the latest version of iTunes on my iMac and my iPhone is displayed on iTunes. It is ticked to wirelessly sync. Both devices connect to my home wifi. However more often than not when I want to wirelessly sync some new podcasts or music to my iPhone (I tick what I want and then click apply) a box appears and says "looking for iPhone" it does this for a minute or two before presenting me with a message that says something along the lines of "the info could not be backed up as the device could not be found". My iPhone then disappears from iTunes and will not reappear until I connect it via USB. Once I disconnect the USB my iPhone stays listed on iTunes until I try to wirelessly sync again. Similarly if I try to sync my iPhone from the phone to iTunes it just says "look for iMac" until eventually giving up.
I had an iPhone 4 before the 5 and it was set up in exactly the same way using the same version of iTunes the same iMac and over the same wifi and that worked first time every time. I have also tried quitting iTunes and restarting my iPhone.
Sorry for waffling on but its becoming slightly annoying and I was hoping someone could help.
    Cheers
    MrTrav15

I am having the same issue. Since updating to iTunes 11 my iPhone 5 will no longer wirelessly sync. I am operating the latest version of Mountain Lion on a two month old Macbook Pro. When I plug in the USB I go through the steps of making sure the box is clicked to Wireslly sync, but after a few minutes of un-plugging the cord my phone dissapears from my devices. It tries to locate it, but cannot.
Furthermore, when I launched iTunes 11 for the first time my phone was synced, but since I accidenttly hit the eject button in the top right, this button has yet to come back. Even when the iPhone is linked via USB. Am I Crazy, stupid, or is this a bug?
BTW, how did MrTrav15 have this problem on 10/17 a month-and-a-half before the launching of iTunes 11?

  • Wireless Sync Problem.

My iPad Mini and iTunes 11.2 are both setup to wirelessly sync. The sync starts just fine, telling me that iTunes is 'preparing to sync', syncing email accounts, and then the sync stops, showing the message "The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)"
    Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

    Howdy lightworks56,
It sounds like you are getting error code 50 when trying to sync your iPad to your computer. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article named:
iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4062
    Start with these steps:
Quit and reopen iTunes and restart your iOS device
Quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, restart your iOS device.
    Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the manufacturer's instructions. You may need to disconnect the power cord for 30 seconds or more.
Note: During this time, Internet services, such as a VoIP-based phone, won't work, and you may need to reset additional network devices.
    Check your network connection
Make sure that your Wi-Fi network has an active Internet connection.
Make sure that you connect your iOS devices and computer to the same network over Wi-Fi.
Check for network configuration changes that may interfere with syncing:
    VPN configurations
Extending the Wi-Fi network through multiple wireless access points or routers
Guest networks or other security configurations that limit access between devices
Routers that configure different networks for different frequencies such as 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz
    Connecting the computer over Ethernet
Wake up your computer and open iTunes. If your computer is asleep or iTunes isn't open, the device may not sync.
Update your router. If you're using an AirPort or AirPort Time Capsule, you can learn more about firmware updates. If you're using a router from another manufacturer, contact the manufacturer to ask about available updates.
There are additional steps to use after these if needed in the article.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Wirelessly sync problems

Hi Guys, hopefully one of you can help me with this as i havent been able to find anything on gogle yet.
I am trying to setup Wireless sync between the z2 and my PC, i had previoulsy done this properly then had to perform a factory reset on the phone, and now its no longer working.
The problem is that my pc does not appear in the USB connectivity field in settings, but when i try to pair i get the following message: "The pc is already paired with your Xperia. To set up devices again, remove the pairing."
Though there is no where on the phone i can find to remove pairing. I can however see my PC name under the throw option and in smart connect....thougb im not sure wether this has anything to do with the wireless sync, and in any case i cant see an way to remove those pairings either.
I have so far tried re-installing the sony pc companion app, and have gotten the same messages still.
Any help or input will be greatly appreciated

Which OS are you running on your PC?
Have you tried checking the Devices option on your PC if your Xperia Z2 is present? If yes try to delete it and do the pairing again.
Still having problems, please post more information (step by step) and we will try to replicate this and help you troubleshoot the problem.

  • Wireless sync works only partially

I'm running IOS 5 on an iPhone 3GS. I have wireless syncing set up and have followed the instructions carefully, at least I think so. The problem is that I want to sync only one playlist from iTunes onto the iPhone. The name of the playlist does indeed sync, but the playlist is empty on the phone. The computer in the equation is a black MacBook running OS 10.6.8.
By the way, the sync method I am using is to have Sync Music checked on the device's music tab, and I have a check by the playlist I want to sync. Is this not the correct method?
One more piece of information to add. I just noticed that in iTunes, when I click on the device, I do see the playlist listed there, just like it is on the phone, but all the songs on the playlist do show up in the iTunes screen, but they are greyed out. I am totally confused.
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    I'm having a similar problem.
Running Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro, and with a new iphone 4S: I have wifi sync enabled, and it goes through the steps, but after it does a wifi sync the new podcasts that were just transferred to the iphone appear as grayed-out titles only. They don't really transfer over.
Any help on this? I hope I don't have to upgrade to Lion, since my MBP is too old to do that. But this is also supposed to work on Windows machines, right?

  • Ipad is not wireless syncing

I have had the ipad 2 plugged into computer and check the "wireless sync" i hace ios on devices, What else do I do? When I now unplug Ipad device disappears from list

    This may help.
iTunes must be running. This works for any iDevice. You will be able to initiate a sync on your own after you set this up. Autosync occurs when the device is plugged into a power source, You do not have to be plugged in to start the sync on your own.
    iTunes Wi-Fi Sync
To activate iTunes syncing over Wi-Fi, plug your device into your computer and open up iTunes.
Under the Summary tab, scroll down to the Options, then ensure Wi-Fi syncing is enabled. Your device should now sync automatically over Wi-Fi when plugged into a power source, but you can initiate a Wi-Fi sync manually using the steps below.
On your iOS device, go to the Settings app and then tap on the ‘General’ tab.
Select ‘iTunes Wi-Fi Sync’ and then select ‘Sync Now’.

This error can appear when the computer that Zune is installed on is connected to a Public network location. The Public network location blocks certain programs and services from running to help protect your computer from unauthorized access while you're connected to a network in a public place. If you're connected to a public network and Windows Firewall is turned on, some programs or services might ask you to allow them to communicate through the firewall so that they work properly.
If your computer is connected to a Public network this behavior is normal and you need to allow the Zune program and the Zune Wireless Configuration Service to communicate through your firewall. If your computer is actually connected to a network at work or at home (or a network you trust) then:
Open the Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the Search box, type "network", and then click Network and Sharing Center.
Click Public network and then click Work network or Home network.
For a Zune player, try to configure it manually. To do this, follow these steps:
    Start the Zune software.
Connect the Zune player to the computer.
Click Settings, click Device, and then click Wireless Sync.
Click Set Up Wireless Sync, and then click Show Advanced Settings.
Enter the name of the wireless network (SSID).
    Select a network type.
    Click Next.
Enter a network key, password, or a passphrase if you're prompted, and then click OK.
    Click Finish.
Note Make sure that the SSID and your password are typed correctly when you configure the Zune player for wireless sync in the Zune software.

  • Wireless sync of contacts

I have had my curve for a while and use an enterprise server for email (which works fine).  recently I noticed that my contacts were not in sync and connected the device to my desktop and completed the sync.  I now have NO contacts on my phone.  My contacts are still on the desktop/server.  On the phone in the contacts the wireless is grayed out.  I need to get my contacts on my phone.
    Help.

Crispy, thanks for sharing your concern. I understand how important it can be to have your contacts on your phone. I am hoping this issue has been resolved by now, but if you need further assistance, here are some steps. First, when you say the wireless is grayed out, are you going to your Contacts, press Menu, Options, choose Desktop, then Wireless Synchronization? If not, make sure that option says available. Here are some steps to delete the Sync service book and re-add it. If you are still not getting the option to turn on wireless sync, I suggest contacting your IT department, since they are the ones who control your company's BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server).

  • The lastest iTunes upgrade broke my wireless syncing between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro

iTunes was actually working before the latest update. Now I cannot wirelessly sync my phone to either my MacBook Pro or my PC.

    Hi, AppleJR.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to sync via Wi-Fi after updating iTunes. I would start with going through the troubleshooting steps outlined below.
Quit and reopen iTunes and restart your iOS device
Quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, restart your iOS device.Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the manufacturer's instructions. You may need to disconnect the power cord for 30 seconds or more.
Note: During this time, Internet services, such as a VoIP-based phone, won't work, and you may need to reset additional network devices.Check your network connection
    Check for network interference
If you see performance issues when you sync over Wi-Fi, something may be causing wireless interference:
    Microwave ovens
    Cordless phones
Physical barriers, such as metal walls or distance between your computer, base station, and iOS device
Try the following to reduce network interference:
Move your iOS device and computer closer to the Wi-Fi router or base station.
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove your iOS device from any case, stand, or attachment.
Open Safari and try to load a webpage.
    Check firewall settings
If you enabled a firewall on your router or computer, make sure that your computer and iOS device can communicate.
Follow these steps to use the built-in firewall option with iTunes on your Mac.
For third-party firewalls and security software, see the developer or manufacturer for assistance.
Mac computers use port 123 to set the date and time automatically. Incorrect date and time on a computer or iOS device can cause connection issues. If you don't know if your router has a firewall or if the required ports are open, follow these steps:
Enable Wi-Fi syncing for additional iOS devices on your network to see if they have the same issue. (See the previous steps to enable Wi-Fi syncing for additional devices.)
Test your device on a different network. If the device works on another network, the issue may be your router or network configuration. Contact your router manufacturer or Internet service provider for additional troubleshooting.
If you use another security or firewall software on your computer or router, you can troubleshoot security software issues, contact the manufacturer, or check the documentation to learn how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.

  • My gf is borrowing an iPhone and theres a few odd things setup on it regarding wireless syncing and something under SMS with a receiving email address. I was wondering if msgs she is sending or even receiving would be going to this address.

Another odd thing I just this second found is it looks like the phone is setup to wirelessly sync to a designated laptop as soon as it is discovered in the network. Any help or suggestion on how to stop this?

  • Wireless sync with multiple devices? + related q

Does anyone know what happens if you have multiple devices (with different content - but using the same library) set up on automatic wireless sync? My husband has successfully set up his iPhone to sync, but I'm nervous of doing the same for my iPad in case it causes some kind of conflict if they're both trying to sync at the same time.
I've searched and couldn't find anything about this.
Also does anyone know what happens if you shut down iTunes/the PC while a device is syncing in this way? My husband often plugs his iPhone into his alarm clock to charge while I'm still working on the PC, so it's doing the auto sync when he does that. If I don't notice and shut down the PC before it's finished, will that cause a problem?
    Cheers

Thank you a lot Jolly Giant, and I have manual sync.
It seems that there is no way to keep an older version of the same app. Is this correct? I never directly replaced older version with newer version, but I suppose it did so when I did "transfer purchases" from iPad. Then it synced the app on older iPod, and it's not really like I have a choice: if I check its name, it syncs and I have the newer version which does not work. If I uncheck, it removes it from the device altogether.
Does not iTunes realize that I have two devices? Both are registered, etc. etc. can it not keep track of minimal system requirements? In fact it appears it's worse than this, older version are totally not allowed, even if someone has by chance the older file, iTunes will not allow.
And it is not like I have a legacy device, this iPod, even though it can not even run the latest iOS (that is, Apple dropped support after 4.2.1 on Nov 22, 2010), was sold new, and not for a cheap price, not so long ago.... btw branded as "third generation" (not everyone is familiar with hardware specs and technical sheets).
The problem will worsen the day my iPad will eventually abandon 4.2.1 in favor of a newer iOS and sure enough there will be newer versions of apps that no longer support 4.2.1 and which so far, I don't download, but in the future I will want to download for the newer device.
Thank you a lot Jolly Giant for your help and thank you to anyone who will help.

  • Companionlink Google for Calendar - OR - ANY Wireless Sync Software

I've been hacking at a way to wirelessly sync my BBerry Bold 9650 with Outlook 2007 and Google.  Since the BBerry solution offers a good email sync, there is no problem there.  Once you install Companionlink Google for BBerry it is clear that unless you want contacts to multiply you cannot have 2 programs doing the syncing.  So, I erased the phone, backed up my contacts and calendar from Outlook 2007 - then erased them in Outlook, and erased them my Gmail contacts and calendar.  Then I did a clean install of my Blackberry email setup for gmail - and "did not" check to have the contacts sync through BBerry's solution.  All worked so far.  Then I installed Companionlink on the PC (Vista), and configured that it would sync contacts and calendar.  Lastly I had companionlink send a link to my BBerry with the mobile app - which I configured to sync contacts tasks and calendar.  Then I wasn't getting my email.  So I deleted my gmail account from the phone and re-registered it for email only.  This worked.  Everything was syncing like a charm.  Next thing I know (about 3 hours later) Companionlink crashed!!  Has anyone had this happen?  After trying many apps to fully sync outlooks functionality I'm depressed!  Who wants to plug the phone in every night?  Can any one help with a solid and trouble free solution or app that works??

Again, not having a Windows Mobile Treo, have you checked the software download section on the VZW customer support area?  I found this article which might be helpful.  If you are talking about the VZW Sync software that sync your data and email with your VZW account, to restore that, you may need to hard reset your device.  As a Sprint user, I don't know for sure.

  • New iPod touch and iPad 2 stopped wireless sync

There was a time when I could wirelessly sync my iPad to my Windows PC but now it will not sync and my new iPod touch version 5 will not sync either.  Currently, the only way I can sync is via USB and that isn't convenient.  It is downright irritating, in fact. It seems that Apple did some sort of update either to iOS 6 or to iTunes 10.7 that is preventing wireless from syncing.  My guess is that it is iTunes 10.7 that is causing the problem since both devices are having the issue. Additionally, it doesn't seem to show the devices as being accessible for sync.  Before when one of the devices was available it would show in iTunes. It doesn't ever seem to show either of the devices in iTunes now.
Is there anyone out there with a solution?  Waiting for Apple to pull their heads out and update iTunes isn't the sort of solution I'm looking for.
    I have:
    iPad iOS 6.0.1
    iPod touch iOS 6.0.1
    iTunes 10.7.0.21
    Thank you in advance!

    Additional information:
I managed to get both the iPad and the iTouch to sync once and once only by going to Music -> ... More > Shared and then add the library that is shared over the network from the PC that I wanted to sync.  This proves it isn't a network issue or a Windows issue.
