Wireless syncing - Is it possible?

I've got a 1st generation Touch and I've downloaded a couple of apps such as Air Sharing which allow you to wirelessly send files over a wi-fi network to your iPod from your computer. If files like this can be sent, surely it is possible to wirelessly sync the iPod?
I don't know if syncing via wi-fi would be slower than with the regular cable but even if it was it'd still be useful; if you're on holiday or just out in town then being able to sync your iPod is a plus no matter how long it takes.

I was hoping this would be a supported feature, but it looks like it isn't.
The MS Zune can do it, but when I briefly had one of those my practical testing found it to be too slow to use if you sync more than one album at a time (and you have some time to kill).
I much rather not have a dumb white wire coming out of the back of my PC and simply reserve the port for charging.

  • Syncing ACT contacts while on automatic wireless syncing with Microsoft Exchange Server?

Does anyone know if this is possible? At the moment, my company is automatically performing a wireless sync between Outlook contacts and their Blackberry Curve 8330 devices. However, employees that travel also need their ACT contacts on their phone. I've researched CompanionLink and know that I can get the ACT contacts directly onto the Blackberry that way, but, the problem arises where the ACT contacts will end up syncing back to the Exchange server -- which we don't want. We want to keep the automatic syncing with Outlook, but periodically we want to do a one-way ACT transfer onto our Blackberries, without having those extra (approximately 5,000) contacts go back into Outlook. Is there an easy way to categorize/separate Outlook and ACT? Any ideas or workarounds?

80072ee2. This is probably a basic question but the server you enter into the Microsoft Exchange settings in active sync is the mail server you have in Outlook 2007? eg mail.internode.on.net. I don't need to do anything to outlook 2007 to "activate" Microsoft Exchange.
I'm looking at the Internode setup guides and it looks as though you have a POP server. In that case, if you want to sync directly to the server, you would want to set it up for POP/SMTP rather than for Microsoft Exchange Server. Does that help?
If you do not want to sync over the air and instead want to sync only by USB/Bluetooth to your PC, I think that works quite differently. I don't have any experience with that.

  • Wireless Sync (not Bluetooth or WiFi)

I'm trying to find out if the "pushed" email/contacts feature is available on the iPhone. My Wife's Boss has it on her Treo using Version's Wireless Sync plan, and i believe Cingular/AT&T may have the same feature called Xpress mail, but i've not seen a Yes or NO anywhere concerning the iPhone.
basically, when her boss can't find a contact on her phone, she calls my wife and askes her to add it to her contacts on their exchange server (using Entourage), in few moments her Boss has it on her phone.
i haven't found anything that says absolutely "not a feature" on Apple or Cingular/AT&T's website. it is mentioned on Cingular/AT&T's site that the iPhone "Does not support enterprise e-mail such as BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Good Mobile Messaging, or Microsoft Direct Push", but the wording on that seems very proprietary anyway (as though the BlackBerry Enterprise Server would only be available if you had a BlackBerry). However, it also says "iPhone [will] synch with your contacts and calendar from Outlook/Outlook Express or Mac Address Book and iCal", but can this be done through the carrier's network rather than only a local sync (bluetooth/itunes dock)?
on Verison's website they give a lot of info on their version of this feature but not much is mentioned on Cingular/AT&T, so i'm still wondering if it's a feature that is only available through Version, or if Cingular/AT&T is just not marketing it as well.
this seems like a real big downer if they don't have this as a possibility. all the other great new innovations are really great, but this seems to be a standard for corporate/enterprise, how could this not be a feature.

    Hi Gailid,
Do you know how your wife's company's exchange server connects to the AT&T network to update the phone?
I remember either Verizon or T-Mobile having something on their web site where you could enter your contacts using a computer with a keyboard and then send it to your phone to save having to use the numeric keypad to enter a large number of contact names.
I couldn't find a similar feature on AT&T's site; actually, it specifically says the iPhone doesn't support direct push (RIM and MS Mobile devices only) and that contacts must be syncronized using a USB connection and iTunes.
However, I suppose it's also possible to send an email with the contact information to an email account accessable by the iPhone and just dial the number from the email and store it in contacts on the iPhone at that point. Not very high-tech, I know, but it will do in a pinch.

  • Wireless Sync without an enterprise server?

    Hello!
I'm not sure if this is even possible and it's probably a really dumb question....but here goes...I'm familiar the ability to wirelessly sync email, contacts, calendar, etc., in Outlook via a Microsoft Exchange Server.   I'm trying to help a friend who has a Treo 755 and currently uses Hot Sync to sync these items to her Palm Desktop software on her personal  PC.  Is there a way to wirelessly sync all of these items either with Outlook or Palm Desktop without an enterprise server? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a valid question, and quite frequent here. Sprint used to offer a product named Business Connection Personal Edition (BCPE) that shoveled emails in real-time in and out of Outlook through a Sprint server. As long as you kept this product running on your PC, it worked very well. Unfortunately, Sprint decided last year to shut down this service. They then announced that Treo PalmOS and Centro users could migrate to a later release of this product named Sprint Mobile Email Work (at no charge if your data plan is $25/mo or more, otherwise it's $10/mo). You can read more about this product here:

Hope this helps! (If she's on another CDMA carrier, hmmm, no idea.)

  • My gf is borrowing an iPhone and theres a few odd things setup on it regarding wireless syncing and something under SMS with a receiving email address. I was wondering if msgs she is sending or even receiving would be going to this address.

Another odd thing I just this second found is it looks like the phone is setup to wirelessly sync to a designated laptop as soon as it is discovered in the network. Any help or suggestion on how to stop this?

Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

  • Wireless sync with multiple devices? + related q

Does anyone know what happens if you have multiple devices (with different content - but using the same library) set up on automatic wireless sync? My husband has successfully set up his iPhone to sync, but I'm nervous of doing the same for my iPad in case it causes some kind of conflict if they're both trying to sync at the same time.
I've searched and couldn't find anything about this.
Also does anyone know what happens if you shut down iTunes/the PC while a device is syncing in this way? My husband often plugs his iPhone into his alarm clock to charge while I'm still working on the PC, so it's doing the auto sync when he does that. If I don't notice and shut down the PC before it's finished, will that cause a problem?
    Cheers

Thank you a lot Jolly Giant, and I have manual sync.
It seems that there is no way to keep an older version of the same app. Is this correct? I never directly replaced older version with newer version, but I suppose it did so when I did "transfer purchases" from iPad. Then it synced the app on older iPod, and it's not really like I have a choice: if I check its name, it syncs and I have the newer version which does not work. If I uncheck, it removes it from the device altogether.
Does not iTunes realize that I have two devices? Both are registered, etc. etc. can it not keep track of minimal system requirements? In fact it appears it's worse than this, older version are totally not allowed, even if someone has by chance the older file, iTunes will not allow.
And it is not like I have a legacy device, this iPod, even though it can not even run the latest iOS (that is, Apple dropped support after 4.2.1 on Nov 22, 2010), was sold new, and not for a cheap price, not so long ago.... btw branded as "third generation" (not everyone is familiar with hardware specs and technical sheets).
The problem will worsen the day my iPad will eventually abandon 4.2.1 in favor of a newer iOS and sure enough there will be newer versions of apps that no longer support 4.2.1 and which so far, I don't download, but in the future I will want to download for the newer device.
Thank you a lot Jolly Giant for your help and thank you to anyone who will help.

  • Companionlink Google for Calendar - OR - ANY Wireless Sync Software

I've been hacking at a way to wirelessly sync my BBerry Bold 9650 with Outlook 2007 and Google.  Since the BBerry solution offers a good email sync, there is no problem there.  Once you install Companionlink Google for BBerry it is clear that unless you want contacts to multiply you cannot have 2 programs doing the syncing.  So, I erased the phone, backed up my contacts and calendar from Outlook 2007 - then erased them in Outlook, and erased them my Gmail contacts and calendar.  Then I did a clean install of my Blackberry email setup for gmail - and "did not" check to have the contacts sync through BBerry's solution.  All worked so far.  Then I installed Companionlink on the PC (Vista), and configured that it would sync contacts and calendar.  Lastly I had companionlink send a link to my BBerry with the mobile app - which I configured to sync contacts tasks and calendar.  Then I wasn't getting my email.  So I deleted my gmail account from the phone and re-registered it for email only.  This worked.  Everything was syncing like a charm.  Next thing I know (about 3 hours later) Companionlink crashed!!  Has anyone had this happen?  After trying many apps to fully sync outlooks functionality I'm depressed!  Who wants to plug the phone in every night?  Can any one help with a solid and trouble free solution or app that works??

Again, not having a Windows Mobile Treo, have you checked the software download section on the VZW customer support area?  I found this article which might be helpful.  If you are talking about the VZW Sync software that sync your data and email with your VZW account, to restore that, you may need to hard reset your device.  As a Sprint user, I don't know for sure.

  • New iPod touch and iPad 2 stopped wireless sync

There was a time when I could wirelessly sync my iPad to my Windows PC but now it will not sync and my new iPod touch version 5 will not sync either.  Currently, the only way I can sync is via USB and that isn't convenient.  It is downright irritating, in fact. It seems that Apple did some sort of update either to iOS 6 or to iTunes 10.7 that is preventing wireless from syncing.  My guess is that it is iTunes 10.7 that is causing the problem since both devices are having the issue. Additionally, it doesn't seem to show the devices as being accessible for sync.  Before when one of the devices was available it would show in iTunes. It doesn't ever seem to show either of the devices in iTunes now.
Is there anyone out there with a solution?  Waiting for Apple to pull their heads out and update iTunes isn't the sort of solution I'm looking for.
    I have:
    iPad iOS 6.0.1
    iPod touch iOS 6.0.1
    iTunes 10.7.0.21
    Thank you in advance!

    Additional information:
I managed to get both the iPad and the iTouch to sync once and once only by going to Music -> ... More > Shared and then add the library that is shared over the network from the PC that I wanted to sync.  This proves it isn't a network issue or a Windows issue.

  • Wireless Sync issue with Windows 7

I just picked up my new Droid X on Sat(with the 2.2 software already installed) and love it. I was playing around with the wireless sync options, media share, DLNA etc. I have a newer Sony Vaio with Windows 7 64 bit and. My computer has no problem seeing the Droid through Windows Media player or in my home group network(Linksys E2000 router). However the Droid cannot see the PC through Media sharing option/simple file sharing/ or DNLA. It of course has no issue connected USB which I can live with that. Also The Droid and my PC do see each other via bluetooth but it will not pair. I was just curious if anyone out ther with W7 has run into this issue and determined a fix for it this.

Plug the Droid in and then find the device driver, remove the device driver, restart windows and your Droid and try again.

  • IOS 5 Wireless Sync and D-Link DIR-655

Has anyone figured out the settings to be inputed into the DIR-655 settings menus in order for wireless sync to work between iTunes and iOS 5 devices?  I've read about every post I can find, and nothing is specifically helping.  (BTW, I had Comcast set my cable modem to "bridge", so that takes care of at least one issue that I've read about).
This wireless sync option, which is meant to make life easier, is driving me nuts.
    Thanks!

I had a similar problem and I needed a second computer (B) using a wired connection to the router to allow the other one (A) in. This is what I did:
    1. Using the wired computer (B) I opened up the network so any computer could join the network wirelessly.
    2. I joined the network with (A) wirelessly.
    3. Once I had successfully joined the network with (A) I used the wired computer (B) to do a search for new computers so (A) could be registered in the Access Control List.
    4. Using (B) I closed the network again.
    5. Now I could join the network with (A) wirelessly without any trouble.

  • Windows 8 and iTunes Wireless Sync

I have two windows PC's, one with windows 8 and the other with windows 7.
They both do not have third party internet security installed, and both just rely on the windows firewall.
I've noticed that even after disabling the windows firewall and defender on windows 8, that my iPhone 4S is unable to wirelessly sync with iTunes.
The windows 7 computer doesn't seem to have this problem at all once the firewall is down.
That obviously eliminates problems with my router.
Does anyone know a work around for this problem on Windows 8?
    Thanks

Suspect this has something to do with Windows 8 not supporting the WinSock API that bonjour uses.. see http://lists.apple.com/archives/bonjour-dev/2012/Jan/msg00022.html

When I disconnect my iphone 3gs(iOS) from computer, the device disappears from my itunes. This prevents me from doing a wireless sync. how do i fix it so that my device stays on itunes without having to plug it in all the time?
it worked the first few times i did it but the next day after i closed out of itunes once, the device only appears when i plug in my phone.

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

My iPad camera photos will wirelessly sync with my iMac and iCLoud photo stream, but the videos do not, is USB connection the only way to transfer videos or is there also a wireless method?

Videos are not included with the Photo Stream. Photo Stream is for photos only.
There is not a wireless method for importing videos from the iPad's Camera Roll.

  • IPhone 4S won't wirelessly sync

I have an iPhone 4S that refuses to sync when disconnected from the computer. I have a Mac Book Pro, with iTunes 10.7 (21) and iOS 6 installed on the phone.  I have the two options in iTunes checked, Open iTunes when this phone is connected and Sync with this iPhone over Wifi.  I also have the option on wireless sync enabled on the iPhone.  When I connect the iPhone to the computer things look as they should.  I can choose "Sync Now" on the phone and the sync process works as advertised.  As soon as I eject the iphone via iTunes the "Sync Now" option on the iPhone greys out.  Following the instructions to wireless sync, I connect the iPhone to a power source and Wifi, but the "Sync Now" option on the iPhone stays greyed out. It tells me it's waiting for my laptop computer to become available.  The laptop is available and I've tried with and without iTunes running. What am I missing?

All right, my problem was voice memos.  I had been deleting them from my iPhone and on iTunes but not in the Voice Memos playlist which was automatically defined.  The sync went on forever as it tried to sync the 70+ voice memos on the list.  I tried turning off voice memo sync AND deleting the playlist on iTunes.  The playlist yet remained on the iPhone and it kept trying to sync it.  Finally, I had to restore.  Now it is gone and the sync concludes.   I don't think I will try to sync voice memos again.
Interestingly, it still doesn't say "OK to remove".  That may have just gone away with the advent of wireless sync.
