Wireless tethered live photo booth slideshow with Nik filters

This might get a little crazy, but wanted to get some input from you guys. I am a wedding photographer and one of the options couples can order is a photo booth. I am looking to take it to the next level. Here is my gear and possible software
Hardware:
Canon 5D Mark II on a tripod with an Elinchrom ring light
Canon WFT-E4 Wireless File Transmitter
Airport Express
Macbook Air 11" i7
HD projector
Software:
Aperture
Photoshop
Nik Silver Efex
Photo Mechanic
Lion
Aperture Hot Folder
So ideally I could just set up Aperture to import the images using a hot folder, then automatically apply a Nik Silver preset, then display it in a live slideshow, but I'm not sure thats possible. Or if it is, I don't know the scripting required.
I was thinking I would set up Photo Mechanic to do a live ingest of the images (maybe only small JPG's and keep the RAW on a card to keep it running quickly), then have it ingest to another folder where photoshop would run an action which includes the Nik filter and border, then photoshop exports to the Aperture hot folder where its imported into aperture and displays on the projector.
Anyone think this is viable? Can you think of a better way to accomplish it?
Thanks,
Joshua

Any torrents running on the PC? Any chance your isp is throttling your connection?

  • Photo Booth issue with Snow Leopard

I have upgraded to snow leopard and now my Photo Booth application will not work....seems I now have the wrong version (or old version)...Does anyone know how i can get an updated version of photo booth? I have looked in the apple store but cannot find anything there. Thanks....

I've had a very similar problem. I'm also using Snow Leopard. When I try to employ any special effects in Photo Booth, I can click on the "shutter" button, it will snap the picture, but then it freezes for a minute, and then closes the program and come up with a dialogue box that says "Photo Booth Quit Unexpectedly". It doesn't save the picture either. I tried some of the fixes mentioned, like deleting the preferences file and repairing permissions, and also creating a admin test account to see if the problem duplicates itself there too (which it does) - so it looks like something is in the OS, and not related just to my particular user account. I also trid "AppDelete" to get rid of the program altogether and then reinstalled Snow Leopard - to no avail. Perhaps this will be fixed with another subsequent software update...hopefully.

  • Importing from photo booth, problems with length and sound

I have a 15 min (277 MB) video clip from photo booth that I would like to post to youtube. I can't get it to work and have been wrestling with a few different programs:
When opening the clip in Quicktime, there is no sound. I can open with VLC media player and the sound is fine.
The clip is too long to import to youtube, so i need to edit it into two sections. However, when try to import the clip into iMovie HD 6, the program crashes (maybe because it is again too long?).
So I purchased Quicktime pro so I could edit the clip. I am able to do this fine, but still have the sound problem. When I saved the edited version, and try to open with VLC, still no sound. Same with iMovie, I can import the smaller clip, but no sound.
I now realize that photobooth is less than ideal for long clips...but we got carried away.
    Any input would be appreciated!

I use KDE, but I had sound issues too when I tried Gnome, and just couldn't get it to work right (One of the reasons I use KDE) but if I remember correctly, I needed to install the esd sound daemon and add it to /etc/rc.conf to get sound in gnome.

  • Photo booth, problems with the new backround

Has any one else had trouble with the new back rounds in photo booth, in mine, the back round over powers me so I am partially invisible. Is there anything I can do about it?

    Hi,
The further away lighting is and the more contrast (single colour different from your clothes) the background is the better this will be.
For instance if your background is dark or your chair is black when you are out of frame and your clothes are close in colour when you return then you will be considered part of the background and "disappear".
My ceiling where I have may computer is only 7 feet high and it has overhead spot lights to light my desk area.
This means the lights are about 4 feet above my head when sitting at the desk and this changes the lighting when I move back into frame causing some "Blooming" around my head. (Shows a blotch around my head of nothing - normally grey)
    Hope this helps.

  • Photo Booth - Problem with filenames

    Hi.
I just noticed that Photo Booth names pictures taken in a curious way... This is the name of a photo taken a few minutes ago:
Foto del 65353972-09-2455450 alle 18/09 (don't care about the words being in Italian )
The number indicating the month is correct, but what about the others? Shouldn't they be year and day?
I know, wrong names in Photo Booth is not a big deal, but I have a lot of pictures in the Photo Booth folder, and it would be nice to quickly find a photo looking at the date, instead of watching them all one by one...

Nothing to do with Julian date as stated in one reply. It's a bug in some localizations, for example the Italian one(Apple is alerted about it).
You have to go to the Application folder, select Photo Booth and control-click (or right-click) to see the contextual menu. Choose Show package contents and then Contents, Resources, Italian.lproj, Localizable strings.
    Open that file.
    1) Change the 21st string: from "HH.mm" = "HH:mm"; to "HH.mm" = "HH.mm";
    2) Change the last string: from "YYYY-MM-dd" = "AAAA-MM-gg";
    to "YYYY-MM-dd" = "YYYY-MM-dd";
To open the file, no problems with Textedit or XCode, but to save it you will have permissions problems: you must enable root (in System Preferences, Account, Login Options, Network Account Server..Join, Open Director Utility, Edit Menu, Enable Root User). Login as a root user and modify and save the file.
Easier: from your admin user account (no need to enable root), open the file with Textwrangler or similar software, do the changes and save the modified file (Textwrangler will ask you if you want to unlock the file and will ask you for your admin user password).
+Textwrangler: Unix and server administrator’s tool, with the ability to open and save files in a variety of line-ending formats, open and save text files located on remote FTP and SFTP ser A vers, authenticated saves (you can modify files not owned by you, provided that you are an administrative user)+

  • PHOTO BOOTH problem with disapearing photos

    Hi,
Im having problems with photo booth... why isnt there a photo booth discussion board?
Anyway.. my photos seem to disappear from the menu at the bottom after a period of time.
When i go into the photo booth folder to find the photos, i find that they have an annoying black border around them.
    YUCK!
    whats going on?
    thanks

Yes. It just clears out your current preferences for that application ...it does not delete your pictures or any work you've saved while using that application.
Usually if an application is acting up you can safely delete its preference file from your Library (your User Library that is) - this returns the app. to its 'first run' state - although as I said, your documents/saved files are untouched.

  • Photo booth effects with Imovie HD?

I was having a ball with the weird effects of phone booth and thought it would be fun to have those real time effects in Imovie HD so I can record a short video clip instead of just a simple snapshot. Is this possible?

    Robert,
No. I don't think you can.
Here's something I did as a kind of workaround.
Take a series of stills using whatever Photo Booth effect you like.
Now bring those stills into iMovie. Next record a voice over and then click the Editing Button and choose Audio FX. You can then use the Pitch Changer to alter the pitch of your voice.
Moving the slider towards Chipmunk goes particularly well with some of the crazy Photo Booth effects.

  • Microsoft NX-6000 works with Photo Booth, not with iChat

I'm trying to use a Microsoft NX-6000 webcam with my wife's MacBook running 10.5.5. The camera appears properly in System Profiler, and it works properly with Photo Booth. However, iChat tells me that the camera is in use by another application, even after rebooting and ensuring that iChat is the only app running. Is there a way to fix this? (and yes, I know the MacBook has a built-in iSight but she's using it in clamshell mode, so that won't help!)

  • Photo Booth issue with isight

    Hi:
I'm running OS X (10.4.11) on my personal MacBook Pro. When I open Photo Booth, I just get a black screen but I'm not able to take any pictures/videos. The iSight in not turning on (all options are grayed out). However the cam does work when I use iChat or Skype video chat. That eliminates the hardware factor.
I have followed some of the suggestions here, such as creating a new user, deleting some of the .plist files, repair permissions, etc.; but still no success.
Are there any other suggestions to fix this problem and get Photo Booth back to work??
    Thanks
    Marcos

    Hello Eric,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It is not likely that anyone has tested Photo Booth on an older Mac equiped with an iSight, but as soon as someone does, I am sure you will read about it here.
As explained in the "The Apple PhotoBooth, how do you get it?" thread, Photo Booth is only available bundled with
    b NEW

  • Problem with Nik filters

A few days ago Nik filters began to work very sluggishly in Photoshop CC.  I have contacted Nik (Google) and they cannot find a solution.  The filters work fine with Elements, but not now with Photoshop CC.  In the past they worked well and fast.  What have I done?

Any chance you're working on an image that's much larger (in pixel counts) than you think?  I ask because occasionally I see people cross up inches and pixels.  How big are the images you're processing?  What Mode (format and bit depth)?

  • TS2413 can photo booth work with skype

Can ...and how do you advise a M/S user to work SKYPE to the Apple Photo Booth

    Hi,
iChat should be in the Applications folder.
I can also see it when I use the Launch Pad icon in the DOCK
(I have also added the iChat icon to the DOCK (Just Drag the app from the Applications Folder and an icon and link is made to the app that stays in the applications folder) )
    Uploaded with Skitch!
iChat "Should" work to AIM on  PC if you get an AIM valid Name  (AIM, @mac.com or MobileMe (@me.com ending ones).
However this has not been as simple as it should be for several years now.
For some people it just works - as it should.  But for other it can be a major headache.
Skype on the other hand will default to using port below 1024 (below this port in your router will always be open) and will tend to connect successfully.
There is a Mac version you can download (1-1 Video chats are free).  As you are probably aware several of the features cost.

  • How to use photo booth with skype???

I can't seem to figure out how to use the photo booth effects with Skype. I would just use iChat but my husband is on a PC and I am on TDY for the military with my MacBook.

    Hi,
There is a folder called Compositions in the system side of things that booth Apple apps of Photo Booth and iChat can access for the Video Effects (And Backdrops on Intel computers in iChat)
Third Party apps such as Skype do not access this folder and therefore do not have Effects.
(there  may be a Skype add-on that has them but I don't use it so I don't know).
It seems CamTwist does work for Skype.
iChat should Video to AIM on a PC (free)  (Or Trillian Pro for a small amount).
Results can vary with AIM  (Post in iChat if you want to know more) but you would then have access to the same effects Photo Booth has.
