Wireless tethered shooting and file transfers

Does Lightroom support tethered shooting via the many wireless adaptors such as the Nikon wu-1b?  Also can it pull files from the camera through the wireless adaptor?  Side question do any of the Adobe mobile apps support tethered shooting?  The native Nikon app is severely lacking... Camranger look compeling but that router attachement is a handful.

"Can I be able to transfer digital photos, art files, data, etc. among 4 Macs 1 Dell computers wirelessly via airport connection?"
Yes.
"Also, is it in the Airport software where I enable security settings for multiple computers so no outsiders can log into my airport?"
Yes, you will need to use either the AirPort Utility or the older AirPort Admin Utility / AirPort Setup Assistant, to set up wireless encryption on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).

  • Problem with Jabber and file transfers WAN - LAN-Users - a solution!

    Hi,
I read a lot of messages about problems with file transfers between iChat-Users, if one (or both) are behind a NAT.
I had this problem to and found an easy solution:
    My situation
iChat-Server behind a Netgear ProSafe FireWall. I opened the needed Ports including Port 7777 (the Port for the iChat-proxy (proxy65).
The iChat-Server is configured to host the domain "server.ourdomain.com" (as an example).
This address can be reached from the LAN and also from the WAN-side.
From the LAN-side the DNS redirects to 192.168.1.1, from the WAN this domain redirects to our official IP-address (the WAN-IP of the FireWall).
I tried nearly all kinds of mentioned solutions, but nothing helped.
The really easy solution is: I just added our official IP to the "Hosted Domains" in the iChat-section of Server-Admin.
After that change, the transfers are made via the proxy65 of iChat-Server. The transfers are shown in the log /private/var/jabberd/log/proxy65.log.
I think, that the other posters who also have this kind of problem are working in a similar setup (domain name of server is used from the LAN AND the WAN-side with different IP-addresses (LAN-IP & WAN-IP).
This solution will only work, if the WAN-IP is a fixed address.

Until the introduction of file promises in AIR Athena, it  has never been possible to drag remote files out of an AIR application.

  • Lightroom 3 Tethered shooting and printing

I have a very specific question.  I need to shoot guests at a part in a "photo booth" style.  I want to shoot tethered directly into LR3 and then have my assistant print the images as I continue to shoot the guests.  However, I'm having a problem setting up the workflow.  When we are in the print dialog setting up an image to print if I shoot another picture, LR3 automatically updates the working image to the newest capture.  Basically this means that we can't simultaneously shoot and print at the same time. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get around this?  Thank you, I really appreciate it.
    Jacob

I'm at work now, I'll try it when I get home.  I spent I don't know how much time looking through the menus for an option just like this.  It sounds like it will do exactly what I need it to.  Thank you,
    Jacob

  • Tethered shooting and Canon live view

When using tethered shooting with LR3, is it possible to see the live view image (Canon 1dsIII)? I looked for a setting, but couldn't find any.

    Jonathan,
No, you can't. Tethering isn't as feature-rich as folks would like.

  • Tethered shooting and jpg+raw pairs

    Hello,
Is there a way when you are shooting in tethered mode that Aperture recognizes pairs of Jpg and Raw coming in from the camera?
I tried different configurations in the tether settings dialog box and it doesn't seem to work.
    Many thx for your input.
    Eugene
    <Edited By Host>

Oh you are getting both images in but you want them to be paired. Ah I misunderstood your original post. I thought you weren't getting one or the other into Aperture.
OK so no, this is how tether works. You can call it a flaw I guess but when I am shooting tethered I want to see the image I just shot. If one or the other were hidden it would defeat the purpose of tethered for me.
You can use Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to suggest to Apple that they change the behavior.

  • ITunes / iPod locking up when during music and file transfers!

I'm having this problem with all 3 iPods in my household, but all on the same machine (20" iMac G5).
Quite often, when hooking up my iPod to transfer songs, or graphics files the whole thing just locks up. My "do not disconnect" screen freezes, and in iTunes I just get the spinning ball FOREVER. iTunes WILL NOT force quit, nor will it eject my iPod. Most of the time I have to force my computer to shut down because it will not do anything else.
I have no idea if it is my machine, or the iPods, or iTunes. I've checked and repaired permissions, and I've also run Tech Tool Pro. Nothing seems to resolve this issue.
    Please... can anyone help?

I have a smiliar problem. Sometimes my iPod just gets "stuck" on the upload of certain songs (always different songs). It will just stay uploading the same song forever! so I have to unplug my iPod (even though it says "do not disconnect") and force quit iTunes. A few times I have had to force a shut down of my computer and twice when I did that all of my Favorite on FireFox dissapeared, my desktop was the default blue, my tool bar was defalut and my iTunes library was missing! I got all the songs back, but had to spend HOURS re-doing all of the playlists and then re-uploading everthiing to my iPod.
I avoided this the latest time by only uploading one playlist at a time, but it was very time consuming and still got "stuck" twice!
Any suggestions?? I have the extended protection plan on my computer and ipod...

  • Battery replacement and file transfers

When you're copying your files from your Ipod onto your computer, i understand that you have to open it as a portable media device and then copy each folder onto the computer. But when you look at the folders, they contain the songs in a random order. Is there anyway to organize them without doing it manually? And is there a service that will back up my files for me so that i can keep all my playlists? And is there an easier way to do this?
    thanks

    Chiller,
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least three sets of your music:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer, then create and maintain two external sets.
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275

  • How Do I Do Tethered Shooting and transfer JPG only to Laptop?

The subject of this thread says it all.  Using the EOS Utility (and a Canon camera, of course), I have options to shoot RAW+JPG and transfer both, or JPG Only to the computer.  Does Lightroom 5.3 have this ability?  If so, where is it?
    Thanks in advance!

You can check the list to see if your specific camera model is supported for tether support from the link below. If the specific feature is available another user can provide an answer.

In my case, the answer was "yes" - it preserved everything.  When you install any version of LR5, if there is a previous version then the new one takes over the settings, catalog, presets, preferences etc - but replaces the software itself.  The CC installer also sets the licence to the CC licence.
Lightroom CC v 5.3 is, I think, exactly the same as the perpetual-licence Lightroom 5.3.  The only difference I could see is that when I go to Help menu, Lightroom Registration, Licence - I see a different licence number to the one for my perpetual-licence version.

  • Problems with encoding and files

Hi friends pls some help my problems is the following
I have a ftp server running on linux and in my program I download files from the ftp server using class specified below. When I download the file content not all content is coming ok. For example I have a string with
Ral1234%#=?[a_@ and when I read content using my methods this part is retirved ok Ra and this one is retrived wrong
    whith characteres very stranges.
I suppose that the problem is with the encoding, then all day I tried some settings in the class new InputStreamReader.First the encoding UTF-8 because I have created the file using this encoding. Something like this:
    in = new InputStreamReader(new GZIPInputStream(localFtp.get(serverFile)),"UTF-8");
    but does not work
    After I realized that I use the statement localFtp.ascii();
declaring that the content will be downloaded in ascii encoding so
    I made this change :
    in = new InputStreamReader(new GZIPInputStream(localFtp.get(serverFile)),"US-ASCII");
    but still does not work

  • Blackberry Curve  tethering and file transfer

    Hello,
So, I was told by AT&T that I can sync, transfer files and tether on my Mac. After several days and fruitless calls to them, I've decided to post here. I have it setup to my employer's enterprise server but also want to set it up with my Mac for music transfer and tethering. I am paying for the full data with tethering service and it is my device, not my employers, so I know it's not a security thing.
I've downloaded PocketMac and it is working fine. I'm not able to transfer files via Mac's bluetooth transfer tool though.
Also, after fishing around I have found that AT&Ts Communication Manager for tethering is only for PCs. Is there a way around this?
    Thanks!
    Jen

    HI Jen,
What a quandry! First off, you mentioned you can't transfer files via Macs Bluetooth software. So you went through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant to pair your Blackberry with your Mac ???? What happens when you try pair the two... please explain.
    And unfortunately, I found this ... http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/solutions/wireless-laptop/support.jsp
<<Note that AT&T does not provide support for Mac OS-compatible connection software. You can find support information for this software on the card manufacturers' web sites>>
Check whether you have turned off wireless syncing in the Address Book under Options in your Blackberry. Also try only syncing across one program at a time (Address Book, Calendar etc..) all the data is transferred.

  • How to keep a copy of the image file on memory card when using tethered shooting with a Nikon D800?

I love tethered Shooting but as default (at least for Nikon) Lightroom does only save the file on the computer, not on the memory card.
Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.
So how can I achieve this using Lightroom tethering?

Thanks. FWIW I'm very keen on improving tethering and lobbied Adobe endlessly until they added the overlay for shooting into layouts because it was a major reason why some of my clients were unable to switch to Lightroom from PhaseOne. But we have to be realistic and remember that tethering just isn't a key market for Adobe as it is for PhaseOne, so progress is painfully slow. For example, where is live view or setting exposure which are in PhaseOne? I'd be amazed if we get those features for a few versions, and that's why I point serious tethered shooters to other solutions. And realistically, assuming your understanding of the SDK is correct you shouldn't expect a change until the next full version of Lightroom.  Good if it happens, but I wouldn't bet on it.

  • Setting and holding White balance during tethered shooting

I came to Apeture from Capture One Pro.  I used Capture when working for a photo studio, when I started shooting for myself I went with the much more affordable Apeture.  I have been very happy with the workflow, but Apeture seems to be missing one of most basic settings for tethered shooting, setting and maintaining custom gray balance. I realize that I can shoot a frame with a gray card and white balance that frame, but the following frames revert to the pre-whitebalanced color settings.  In Capture One, I would balance my first frame to a gray card, even add a manual tweek, and all subsequent frames would follow the new color settings.  Perhaps there is a setting I have missed, some sort of automatic inheriting of the last frames adjustments.  I realize that it is easy enough to adjust my color settings after the fact, but my color is off during shooting, and clients are not always able to envision the finished product.  I really hope I'm missing something, because it's the most important feature to me for shooting tethered, right after the ability to shoot tethered.

It forces this yucky uber warm white balance. Just to make sure it was not shot that way, I then selected "as shot". It immediatly went to the color of the shoot and looks great.
When you select 'As Shot' do the Temp and Tint settings change? How about other settings, do any of them change? Just trying to determine what is actually causing the color change.
Did you try creating a new preset with the same settings, and see how it behaves when you uncheck White Balance? The original preset file may have been corrupted (i.e. damaged) and resaves are not fixing it. If this doesn't resolve the problem then it is likely a bug with tethered mode operation. Please let us know.

  • E2000, wireless lag when running doing local wired file transfers

Recently purchased an E2000 because it had N & gig capable copper ports and have found that when I'm doing hammering the switch by doing large file transfers between two local ports, my wireless performance suffers tremendously. I mean I could throttle my server and workstation ports down to 100 MB, but I'd ather not and I'm not overly thrilled about hanging a switch off of the e2000...  I'm running the latest firmware and I've used a wireless spectrum analyzer to make sure that I don't have any interference from a neighbors radio, or something broader (microwave, cordless phone, etc).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You can try changing some advanced wireless settings on the router.
Open the setup page of the router. Change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings.
Click on wireless tab and go to advanced wireless settings. Change Beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307, fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.
Power cycle the router and see if that helps you.

  • I bought a new computer, and i have transfered everything using home share, file transfers, etc.. yet still when i go to sync, itunes tells me ipod can only be synced with one computer... is there a way to retire the relationship with the old computer?

i bought a new computer.  the itunes app allows for home shareing, file transfers, etc.. but i want to discontinue the syncing with the old computer and sync my ipod touch now only on my new system... but i cant seem to disconnect that old relationship at all.. when i try to syncit says that my ipod is already synced with another computer, do i want to discontinue that and only use the new informationon this computer?  i dont want to do that yet because it doesnt seem like everything has come over, and i am afraid of losing songs that i downloaded from cds, etc..

if you don't want to sync it because you don't think that everything has been transferred then i would check first if you can, before you commit to used only the data from your new computer.
though, im not sure if this is true, but i think that when you sync your ipod to a new computer it will take the items from your ipod and put it on itunes, like when you purchase something on your ipod and it gets automatically transfered, but don't take my word for it.
