Wireless to Macbook Pro to Ethernet to G5

Hi,
My G5 currently doesn't have a wireless card and I want to get internet to it, however my macbook pro does. Is it possible to run an ethernet cable from my macbook pro to my G5 and use my Macbook pro basically as a wireless card? thanks

Yes, connect them via Ethernet cable then open System Preferences/Sharing, click [Internet] click [Start] and make sure you're sharing [Airport] over [Ethernet]

    Hi,
Simply put(copy) the content of the UVIsoundbaks folder to where you want it. Then delete the original content. Make aliases of the content at its' new location, and move (copy) all those aliases back into the originating folders. Then delete the original aliases. That should do it.
    I'm confused about this.
First, I put the content where I want. Got it.
    Then delete it?
I don't have the room to put it where the application tells me to put it (not enough room on the HD), so I need to put the sample content on a external hard drive.
    Please advise.

most reliable method found is get an AppleTV hooked to TV, and get program called BEAMER (free trial or $15 purchase application).     Lots of programs CAN stream to TV via wifi, but many of them get audio syncing wrong/bad.   Best addition upgrade to any Apple PC or laptop isnt internal, but the AppleTV     BEAMER app is the best Apple/Mac app out there to me, ...  Ive got 7 Terabytes of Videos, ...the Beamer app takes in any video format, its just incredible.

I also saw this same error message above the Print Queue, ever since allowing the Epson Printer Software Update (August 2013) to install. After this update installed, I was able to print a basic Test Page from the Print Queue, but when printing from any application I only got "Looking for printer..." displayed above the Print Queue, which would stall and never print.
2008 MacBook, 10.7.5. It used to print to my Epson WorkForce 845 wirelessly without problems, before this software update was installed.
Changing the driver from "Epson WorkForce 845" to "Epson WorkForce 600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3" was a workaround that did allow me to print, but I wasn't satisfied with that.
Found this better solution in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5233149?start=0&tstart=0
    (with thanks to Yuengdog1983):
This issue may be a result of the Computer Name being left empty:
Open System Preferences and choose Sharing.
Enter a name for your computer.
Even without restarting the MacBook, I was able to now change back to using the Epson WorkForce 845 driver v9.0 successfully. I never would have guessed that a Computer Name is required in order to print!

But it's on the PC right ? So it's a shared network printer with a Spooler (this is how it should be configured using Prnter Setup Utility ...)

Once Disc Utility is launched, select your local hard drive then the [Repair Permissions] button bottom left will light up.

I can't see any reason that you would need it... Just let it create it's own connection.

  • Help printing wirelessly from MacBook Pro to Canon MP640?

I can't print from my new MacBook Pro (running 10.9.1) to my Canon MP640. I installed the latest driver (10.84.2.0) correctly, I think, and the printer has WiFi connection and I can print via a PC on my wireless network, but MacBook doesn't see it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi bannyx,
I hate to hear you are having issues.  Does the printer have a valid IP address when connected via Ethernet or wirelessly?  Click Here for steps to take related to this issue. Please see the below information regarding the connection types for this printer.  Also I need a bit more information to proceed if the above link does not resolve the issue.
    Needed information:
    1.  Has the installation been completed from a disk or download?
    2.  Did the installation software detect the networked printer?
    2.  What is the IP of the printer when connected with Ethernet cable?
    3.  Are you able to access the embedded web server for the printer (type IP into address bar of web browser, does printer web page pull)?
    4.  Do you have security software running on the computer?
    5.  Is the router running in mixed mode?
    Connection information:
    1. Ethernet and wireless connectivity are exclusive.  If the device is hard wired with an Ethernet cable, wireless communication is voided (radio disabled) because the printer is networked with a cable.
    2. Disconnecting the USB cable puts the driver in an offline state due to the fact it cannot communicate with the printer.  This is normal; it basically informs the user the device is not communicating.
    Hope this helps!

  • Airport Wireless and MacBook Pro Security with Verizon DSL

My Airport wireless network connects my MacBook Pro mid-2009 model and iPhone 4S via TimeCapsule (1st gen) to a Verizon DSL D-Link DSL-2750B modem/router. Lately, I've been having problems with slow speeds (since the spring it's gone from a very nice 3.8 to 2.7 to an almost halved 2.1 mpbs download speed). I tinkered around with the modem settings from the webpage control panel and reset to the factory settings to no avail as far as increasing my speed but I did get all my connections back and running again.
However, my question is this: the Macbook's wi-fi drop down menu shows the name of  my own user created wi-fi network name, along with some others throughout the neighborhood, along with my networks SSID number that everything all links up to. My Macbook connects in bridge mode via Ethernet and wi-fi with WPA2 security and is "Automatic" for the location. Is this safe to have the SSID ID listed there in plain view to the neighborhood and if not what should I do? Thank you.

I seem to be having the same basic problem-except the wireless connection works fine when I am in the basement (where the Airport Extreme is located) but when I go up flight of stairs, i get "invalid password". Of course, the password is the correct one for the wireless.
THoughts on whether it might help if I by boosters for the wireless for each floor of my house?
Oh, one other thing, my macbook pros never did this before today, my macpro desktop is on an upper floor and it connects wirelessly easily, as does my iMac on an upper floor. I've had the macbook pros working just fine for at least a year each and I didn't change any settings on any of the computers.
    Thanks

  • Can't share internet with iPhone4 via Airport with MacBook Pro on Ethernet

I'm in Iraq being abused by a criminal ISP offering 256K (yes, kilobytes per second!) connectivity via a cat IV ethernet cable to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.9). I have a first-gen iPhone4 (16G, version 4.2.1), it will not connect to the internet via airport to my MacBook.  I'm getting a good wi-fi symbol on my iPhone, the Airport is correctly finding my MacBook's network, and it properly demands/accepts my WEP password.  But I cannot get mail, go on line or use any apps.
Under the DHCP tab on my MacBook's network on the iPhone's Settings/Wi-Fi page...I have a good IP Address and Subnet Mask.  Previously I've also had numbers show up on the Router and DNS lines as well...but they are now blank.  I have never had numbers on the Search Domains or Client ID lines.
Can anyone tell me what's missing to get my internet sharing working?
    Thanks!

OK, on your iPhone you have four fields that need to completed for any type of WiFi networking to operate.  The fields are (in order) the IP address of your device, the subnet mask for your network, the "router" IP address, and finally the DNS addresses.
I'm not sure what these numbers look like on an ad hoc network, but a typical router based network would look like:
Device IP:  192.168.1.x with x being between 2 and 255
    Subnet mask:  255.255.255.0
    "Router IP":  192.168.1.1
DNS:  usually a pair of IP address separated by a comma.  Sometimes this is supplied by the network you are conneccted to, other times you specify an address (like OpenDNS or Google's DNS service)
If your phone has an IP address of 169.x.x.x, it means that your ad hoc network is not supplying it with an IP address.  Make sure that the DHCP box is checked (the ad hoc network will assign an IP address) or manually assign IP address.
To be honest with you, I'd go out and buy a basic N router (about $40 US), plug it in to your ethernet connection, and connect your devices to that.  You get far better security as the router has a firewall and you can use WPA2-AES encryption on the wireless side - and it is easier to set up.

  • Cannot print wirelessly from MacBook Pro OSX Mavericks

I cannot get my new MacBook Pro (using OSX Mavericks) to communicate with my HP Officejet4500 Wireless.  I can print when I use a connecting USB cable, but cannot print wirelessly.  All of my Mac software updates are current as of 4/20/2014, which included an update for HP printers.  When I used the disk to install the printer software, it did not have a screen for entering my wireless router ID or passcode.  In the Mac System Preferences for Print and Scan, my Officejet 4500 G510n-z is listed, but to no avail.  What do I have to do to get my Mac to print wirelessly?  Thanks.

OK, thanks for that.  It may indeed may be the problem, but let's check a couple of things first.
    1. On the printer: Setup > Network > Print Network Test.  Is the printer connected to the network?  If it is not:
         a. In the Network menu, Restore Defaults
         b. In the same Network menu, run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the printer to your network.
    2. On your Mac, download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
         Restart your Mac.
    3. Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and then next to the "Use" pulldown, select the printer model (not AirPrint). Wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Printing wirelessly with MacBook Pro?

I'm sure this topic has come up before. Does anyone have any ideas how I can print wirelessly using my MacBook Pro? I'm trying to get Airport Express working but the 2 printers that I have are not on the list of compatible printers so I think that I might not get it to work easily.
It is such a pain to have to take the laptop to the printer and plug it in in order to print. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just enable printer sharing on the machine hosting the printer (be it a windows box or an OS X machine) and then print to the shared printer. A "cleaner" solution (as your printers get replaced) is jut buy wireless printers. Last year I replaced an old HP deskjet that was shared off my Vista desktop machine with an HP wireless 6988dt printer. Now there is no longer a need to keep the Vista box from sleeping when idle just to be able to print.

  • Printing Wirelessly from MacBook Pro

Just got a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago. We have an HP PhotoSmart C7180 wireless printer, and I can't figure out how to "connect" the MacBook to the printer wirelessly. The MacBook recognizes the printer when I plug it in, and I connected the printer to my FIOS wireless network that I have. However, when I go to print wirelessly, I get a message saying my printer is off-line.
I no longer use my AirPort Extreme Base Station because you don't need it with FIOS, which comes with its own wireless network. Any help would be much appreciated.

Try deleting the printer from the Printers setting (the one that you set up when it's connected directly to your Mac). And then, add a new printer, it should find your printer in the network (if it's connected to the network properly). Add that printer and choose the correct driver.

  • Printing wireless via Macbook Pro but not via iPad

I was able to install, print my HP Deskjet InkAdvantage 3515 from my Macbook Pro but when tried printing using my iPad, AirPrint printer not available.  How come? Did set-up wireless config in printer too.

    1. Turn the router, iPad and printer off
    2. Turn on the router and then wait 30 seconds
    3. Turn on printer and then wait 30 seconds
    4. Turn on your iPad and test print.

  • Connecting directly macbook pro to ethernet big disk...

I was wondering if i could connect directly my macbook pro to the ethernet plug of ethernet big disk with ethernet cable. I have used the lacie connected to netgear router but the big disk showed that it was connected at 100mbits/s. When I tried to take same cable and plug it in macbook pro and fiddle around wth advanced ethernet option, the settings always came back to previous ones. Why? Thank you for looking at this tread and hope i will enjoy super fast transfer rates because it is painfully slow at 100mbits/s. Funny how firewire 800 makes such a difference. Thanks.

  • Trying to wirelessly connect Macbook pro to Canon MX340 printer

I am really not computer-minded at all, which is why I love my Mac.  It just does it for me.  Back in November, somehow I wirelessly connected my Macbook pro to our Canon MX 340 printer.  We have moved and now I can't get it to work.  When I go into printer settings on my macbook pro, it lists the printer, but says it is "offline."  The printer is currently hardwired to my husband's HP desktop.  The only troubleshooting skill I have is to turn off the printer and turn it back on, and hope somehow that makes it work.  I have no idea what to do.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!
