Wireless troubles....[SOLVED]

First off, thanks, I think I've learned more after my first Arch install, then with the couple years of other easier automatically installed distros.
1.)I Followed the guide, then installed kde-mod. Does the mainstream arch community use this, or will the support be directed only to the kde-mod forums?
2.) I can't get my wireless to work.
Acer TravelMate 4000
I went to the Wireless Setup guide, but I must be doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, well modprobe ipw2200 didn't output anything, but I see in in my /etc/rc.conf  under modules.
I think " Part II: Wireless Management" is where I'm having the problem.
Under "KWiFiManager" I can see my network, but it won't connect, and its the only network I see?
And I think I got wrapped around the axle with "netcfg2" and didn't understand.
The netowrk portion of my /etc/rc.conf looks like:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="dhcp"
eth1="dhcp"
wlan_eth1="eth1 essid Networkname key s:password"
WLAN_INTERFACES=(lo eth0 eth1)

  • General Oracle Database Performance trouble solving best practice Steps

    We use  Oracle 11g DB on Windows2008R2 as web application backend DB.
    We have peformance trouble in that DB.
    I would like to know General Oracle Database Performance trouble solving best practice Steps.
    Is there any good general best practice document for performace trouble solving in the internet ?

    @Girish Sharma:  I disagree with this. Many people say things like your phrase "..first identify the root cause and then move forward" but that is not the first step. Any such technique is nothing more than looking at some report, finding a number that you don't like, and attempting to "fix" it. Some people use that supposedly funny term "compulsive tuning disorder" (first used by Gaja Krishna Vaidyanatha) to describe this approach (also advocated in this topic by @Supriyo Dey). The first step must be to determine what the problem is. Until you know that, all those reports you mentioned (which, remember, require EE plus pack licences) are useless.
    @teradata0802, your best practice starts by finding the problem. Is it, for example, that the overnight batch jobs don't finish until lunchtime? A screen takes 10 seconds to refresh, and your target is one second? A report takes half an hour, but you need to run it every five minutes? Determine what business function is causing your client to lose money because it is too slow. Then investigate what it is doing, how, and why. You have to begin by focussing on the problem, not by running database-wide reports..

  • HP2540 can no longer be contacted wirelessly. (SOLVED)

    Having installed the printer under Linux using CUPS 1.4. I used the Wireless Direct connection to connect to it via my browser and http://192.168.223.1 and set the security to off as we have no neighbours and the router too is unsecured.
    The printer returned a connection address of http://192.168.2.254:9100 and the Wireless light stayed on. The printer could then be found and installed wirelessly by CUPS.
    In an effort to retrace my steps and explore the possibility of a Wireless Direct connection I reset the printer with Cancel/Wireless, and now cannot connect via my LAN or by Wireless Direct. Error messages point to an authentification problem. The Cancel/Wireless/Wireless/Unplug sequence didn't work either. I can't get to the printer's set-up page to reset it. Is there any other way or do I now have a USB-only printer.
    Thanks.
    (Edit) Redid Cancel/Wireless, unplugged printer for 5 mins, restarted it and reprinted the EPrint connection page. Used the new security code supplied to log on to printer and reset the router connection. Established an EPrint connection directly to my Android phone too. I'll mark this SOLVED.

    Download and run this utility.
    Also, WEP is not secure.  It can be broken with freeware in about 10 minutes.  Switch to WPA or WPA2.

  • Bug fix for Mac book wireless - problem solved!

    Aparantly there is a rather large number of folks out there who've discovered this dillema with wireless not working very well at this point on the Macbook.
    Well, I can attest there is one very good solution out there for this issue. This application called Sonar Theater from www.sunray.tv includes a bug fix for the wireless connection issues with Macbook in their latest 1.5 release of Sonar Theater.
    I downloaded it, put it into my start up folder and waalaa! problem solved. I've haven't any more issues with dropped wireless since - it's been running constantly for over 2 weeks now.
    I haven't even attempted to touch my router configuration - don't need to.

    Welcome to the better life of Macs. I am using Sonar Theater too and it's been working very well for me. In fact, I'm getting hooked on just texting a message to my Mac book to fire up user sessions now. I think if you give the Mac Book some time however, you'll find that there really is no comparison to PC's. Your life overall is going to just keep getting better as you dig in to the resources available to new Mac users.
    I'm sure it seems confusing to PC users at first, but here's how to set up any application as part of your startup sequence. It really is extremely easy and simple compared to the PC world. Oh and by the way, in reality, Mac users refer to this as your login sequence. So, at login time, you can do a multitude of different things for each user account you might want to set up. Naturally, you can choose to share or not share applications and data between these user accounts on your Mac too....
    Mac OS X 10.3 or later
    1. Log in as the user who wishes to have a login item or as an admin user.
    2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    3. Choose Accounts from the View menu.
    4. Click the name of the user.
    5. Click the Startup Items button
    6. Click the "Add {+}" button.
    The item you selected will automatically open the next time you log in.
    there are several ways to get good info from the apple community on tips and tricks as well. you should just try the apple os x web site...here,

  • My Wireless Issues Solved

    Like many others, I have had wireless connection problems since 10.4.10. I continued to have problems right up through 10.5.2. My symptoms involved dropped connections when using WPA/WPA2 when unplugged from a power source. When my macbook was running on a/c it worked fine. As soon as I pulled the plug, I would lose my connection (I would get a self-assigned ip address).
    I have a Belkin router and the firmware is up-to-date. I tried every single one of the suggestions found on these boards, and there are a lot of them, and nothing, other than tethering my portable computer to an outlet, would allow me to connect to my router with WPA enabled.
    I finally gave up and did what I should have done long ago. I reinstalled Tiger (10.4.6) and updated to 10.4.9 and now my connection is stable.
    This exercise demonstrates, to me at least, that this is definitely a software problem that began with 10.4.10 and continues right on up to 10.5.2. I already knew this before I did the downgrade, and I'm pretty sure many of you did too, but I thought that I'd post this in case anyone had any doubts.

    I haven't had quite as much trouble with 10.5.2 although my internet connection was very slow loading various pages. About a week ago, I installed 10.5.3 and it made a big different in loading webpages. Too bad you didn't get a chance to try it with your system.
    Since you bit the bullet and went back to Tiger, it probably makes sense staying there unless you have other issues that might make Leopard worth trying again.
    For what it's worth, I think my MB had Airport 10.5.1 when I first got it about 3 months ago and that worked as well as it does now re Airport. So, I would have to agree that 10.5.2 did have a software issue with Airport.

  • More Wireless Woes [solved]

    There's a lot on these fora about wireless, but I haven't been able to figure this out.  So forgive me if someone else has solved this problem elsewhere, but I didn't recognize it when I saw it, I guess.
    I have a Broadcom BCM4306 wireless adapter.  I followed the instructions here, http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless , for the bcm43xx module, which I've added to /etc/rc.conf, and it shows up in lsmod.  Then, I set up rc.conf as follows:
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth1="dhcp"
    eth0="dhcp"
    wlan_eth0="eth0 essid [networkid] key [likei'mgoingtotypeithere]"
    WLAN_INTERFACES=(eth0)
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 eth1)
    The wireless adapter shows up as eth0 because the rc.conf module list runs before udev gets the wired NIC going, so wireless is always eth0.
    Unfortunately, nothing has worked yet.  Most of the time, iwconfig doesn't show an essid.  It usually picks up the wireless key, and sometimes shows the right essid if I give it the key first (by iwconfig eth0 key xxxxx then iwconfig eth0 essid xxxxxx).  Here is a typical iwconfig output:
    eth0 IEEE 802.11b/g ESSID:"" Nickname:"Broadcom 4306"
    Mode:Managed Frequency=2.437 GHz Access Point: Invalid
    Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm
    RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
    Encryption key:xxxx-xxxx-xx Security mode:open
    Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
    Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
    Doing iwconfig eth0 power on gives this error:
    Error for wireless request "Set Power Management" (8B2D) :
    GET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported.
    ifconfig shows eth0 having a valid MAC address (00:0D:0B:CF:EB:0F), which I guess is relevant.
    This is my first adventure in the land of Linux wireless.  Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    John

    I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with an internal Dell wlan mini pci card (Truemobile 1390) that uses the Broadcom 4311 chipset.  I've tried to get this card working in half a dozen different Linux distros with the native Linux driver bcm43xx that's provided as a kernel module plus the firmware cutter software bcm43xx-fwcutter.  I've had no luck with this.  However, I've had good luck using a Windows driver running via ndiswrapper.  You may want to try that route.  For me it works well for 128-bit WEP encryption.  I haven't tried WPA encryption as yet; it may work for that too.
    Here's what you'd have to do.
    1. Connect your machine to WAN through the wired ethernet interface that almost certainly will be supported by Arch.
    2. Get the Windows driver for your wireless card, e.g. from the support CD that came with your card (it would be in the WinXP directory) or from the web if you don't have the CD.  To find it on the web, search  http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/medi … x.php/List  for BCM4306 or for the pciid of your card, or go to the card manufacturer's website.  The Windows driver consists of two files with extensions .inf and .sys.  Perhaps the widely available standard driver bcmwl5.inf & bcmwl5.sys that I use for the BCM4311 would be appropriate for your card.  Put the driver folder on your Desktop.
    3. Install ndiswrapper-1.26-1 and ndiswrapper-utils-1.26-1 by running
    # pacman -Sy ndiswrapper
    4. Bring down the wired ethernet interface eth0:
    # ifconfig eth0 down
    5. Navigate to the folder on your Desktop that holds the Windows driver files and run
    # ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf    (or whatever the name is of the .inf driver file)
    6. To check whether the driver has been installed (it should be in /etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwl5, some two dozen files)
    # ndiswrapper -l
    If all is well, this should say: "driver installed; hardware present"
    7. To insert the ndiswrapper kernel module run
    # modprobe ndiswrapper
    The LED for your card should come on.
    8. To check whether the kernel module is running run
    # lsmod | grep ndiswrapper
    9. To bring up the wireless interface wlan0 run
    # iwconfig wlan0 essid name_of_your_wireless_access_point channel number_of_your_channel
        key your_WEP_key_in_hexadecimal open
    10. To get an IP address via DHCP run
    # dhcpcd wlan0
    11. To set up a route to the internet gateway run
    # route add default gw 192.168.0.1    (substitute you gateway's IP address here)
    12. To check the connection run
    # ifconfig   (do you have an IP address?)
    # iwconfig   (does everything look all right?)
    # ping google.com   (can you connect to Google?)
    You should have a connection now.
    To make this setup permanent and initialize the wireless interface on bootup, edit the following two files.
    /etc/conf.d/wireless
    wlan_wlan0="wlan0 essid name_of_your_wireless_access_point channel number_of_your_channel
        key your_WEP_key_in_hexadecimal open"
    WLAN_INTERFACES=(wlan0)
    /etc/rc.conf
    MODULES=(ndiswrapper)
    HOSTNAME="your_hostname"
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    wlan0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(lo wlan0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"         (substitute you gateway's IP address here)
    ROUTES=(gateway)
    Then run # /etc/rc.d/network restart or reboot.  You should be all set.  If you use the wired interface too (which should be eth0), you can add that later.

  • ZBook 14 Wireless Problem Solved!

    For a couple a months now, my ZBook 14's (still under warranty) wireless drivers (Intel Wireless-N 7260 BN) have not been loading at start-up about 50% of the time.  The drivers would almost always successfully load if I restarted, but it was getting kind of aggravating.  I called HP Elite ZBook Technical Support, and they walked me through several steps, including uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers, but to no avail.  So they arranged for a HP Field Support Technician (FST) to install a new wireless card.  I personally didn't think it was a hardware problem, but that seemed to be their next step.
    So today, their FST arrived and promptly installed my new wireless card.  Well, it didn't fix my problem, so she put the old card back in and then started to do some investigating.  What she ultimately found is that although my computer was reporting that it had the latest BIOS installed, it did not.  On 02/06/15, I allowed my computer to update to the latest BIOS, which was then 01.30 (release date of 12/09/14).  However, she discovered that a later BIOS update (01.30A) had been released only a week after the 01.30 update  (dated 12/15/14), and in the desription of the BIOS update it said that it was specifically to add support for my Intel Wireless-N 7260 BN card.
    Major KUDOS to the young lady FST for identifying that discrepancy, and the new BIOS update install solved my wireless card problems!  I apparently would never have figured that out because my computer was reporting that it had the lastest BIOS installed, and my "HP Support Assistant" software didn't recognize that there was a newer BIOS available, either!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Just for an update, even after updating my ZBook to the latest BIOS (01.30A), my "HP Support Assistant" software still reports that my BIOS version is 01.30.  It's like the software recognizes the Numerical characters, but cannot see the Alpha character "A".  Just thought that info might help someone.  Proof that you can't ALWAYS trust your HP Support Assistant software...

  • Apple TV Wireless Troubles

    I have a home network with 2 Apple Airport Extreme Gigabit N routers. One is connected to my cable modem and is the "main" router handling the DHCP, etc. The other APX is at the other end of the house in my office and is connected by ethernet cable to my Mac Pro and my work PC. In the middle of the house I have an Airport Express N that is extending the network due to poor connectivity without it. I know that is a lot of routers but the speed drop is not too bad and without it I have poor wireless connections, dropouts, etc. Everything is running at 2.4 ghz 802.11n, b/g compatible due to my wife's Powerbook and our son's Windows machine, both of which are 802.11g only.
    Problem is that my Apple TV which is located right beside the main APX router can't stream or even sync properly with my Mac Pro when running in wireless network mode. As stated, the setup puts the ATV and Mac Pro at opposite ends of the house but the ATV shows good wireless signal level, presumably from the APX that is right beside it. However, you can't watch a movie or TV show streamed from the Mac Pro or even listen to music without many pauses, time-outs, lockups, etc. However, if I plug the ATV directly to the APX with ethernet then everything works great. I can ping the ATV wirelessly from the Mac Pro and get 10 clear pings in the 3-7 ms range, usually averaging 4-5 ms.
    The local Apple store says the ATV is working fine since it will stream from their Macbook when the 2 are sitting next to each other.
    My question (finally, sorry) is that should the ATV automatically be connecting wirelessly via the closest APX router (the same one I plug into via ethernet) or could it be trying to stream via one of the more remote routers hence the poor performance. If so, is this typical and correct performance or should I be going back to the Apple Store and insisting on them fixing the situation.
    Also, the ATV can stream from the internet - iTunes, HD movie trailers, download TV shows etc just fine. This is confusing since this should be using the same wireless connection as streaming from the Mac Pro unless for some reason streaming internally causes it to select a different router.
    Thanks and Best of the Holidays to everyone.

    Vazandrew,
    The Apple TV was working perfectly before this change.  I did not do any setting changes on the HDTV.  All the problems I have had just recenly popped up.  As I stated, I cleared the "ERROR OCCURRED  LOADING CONTENT,  by power cycling the Apple TV and my WiFi modem per https://discussions.apple.com/message/24372796 and the only item I did not perform was the RESTART/RESET step because I was able to stream a Netflix program without receiving the Error Message and that cleared Problem #1. Problem #2 was the Display size issue.   That is why I asked about the RESTART/RESET question.  This Apple TV has been functioning perfctly for over a year and I just wanted to research (whether you advised me or you povided me with an HT Document) hwhat I needed to do to re-establsh the Apple TV TV back to working like it was, if the RESTART/RESET set the Apple TV to virgin state.
    I will try toggling the the Resolution and I will chek on how to access the HDTV's Picture settings.

    Nevermind, got it working.
    It seems I just forgot to type the rest of the clunky auto-generated network profile name.

  • Change name of wired and wireless extensions [SOLVED]

    Hey guys,
    new to archlinux, but so far really am enjoying myself.
    I noticed the other day that my wired and wireless extensions are not called eth0 and wlan0 respectively. Instead they are eno1 and wlp3s0. Can someone help me change them. Everything is working, just a personal preference. Thanks again

    Welcome to Arch!
    See https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 24223.html.  You can try running:
    ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-name-slot.rules

  • CG's Moans and Groans - But Wireless N solves ever...

    Hallo All,
    You know me on these forums to have a ruddy good moan, well this time I'm gunna have a ruddy good discussion.
    The other night I was trying to stream a 750MB video file of Stevie Nicks singing live in Chicago from my lappy (which is a tad slow now, bless her) via my PS3, however it was pee farting around, stopping and starting and though hang on, is my laptop playing silly **bleep**'s or is is something else!
    Anyhow, I have that new BT Home Hub 3 - so I cant say if these settings are on the BT Home Hub 2 but what I have done is selected within the Wireless Options for just Wireless N - no slow B & G but just wireless N - sounds groovey doesn't it, well it is!
    I have found that nearly all my devices including my little laptop, iphone and iplods run pretty well, plus I was able to watch Stevie Nicks video flawlessly - I was thinking of watching The Only Way Is Essex but thought I don't want to depress myself!
    Also, I have found my Internet to be just that snappier, which means CG is a happy happy bunny (see the fluffy ears).
    Anyhow, slight moan, still waiting for BBC iPlayer on Vision but understand its all down to that Client ID etc so can hang on for a while, if you are finding things slow and you have enjoyed my comical post (print it go on, laminate if you want, I will sign it for a small donation) but I also hope it helps!

    CG Over An Out

    Just thought I would update that any type of media that I play back on any of my 3 systems, there is interference, not just with MP3's..
    Ive also found that if I disable the router in setup my media files play back just fine..Also if I just simply disable the N adpater on any particular system the media files will play back just fine on that system..
    Also, if I use my wireless G connection internally from my laptop my media files play back fine..So this is definately a wirelss N issue..Im suprised that I cant find any information about this anywhere.

  • T500 Wireless troubles

    Hi all,
    After extensive googling and forum bashing (and obviously not finding a clear cut answer), i've decided to put this problem out there -
    I have a T500 which is 2 days old, with an intel 5100 wireless card. My old laptop (a T42) can connect to the wireless network (secured) at my place. The router is a d-link DI-624 with the most recent firmware update. The T500 can't connect to the wireless network for some reason. The signal is 'very strong', and it asks me for a password. Although the password comes out as 8 digits (my password is obviously 10 digits), i read that it's just the GUI doing some tricky dicky privacy thing. It takes a little while to think, but in the end all i get is 'limited or no connectivity'.
    I checked the router settings and all that. Channels, g-modes etc. etc. The log on the router says that it had registered my MAC address, but unlike for my T42, it did not allocate me an ip in the vicinity of 192.168.0.100+ (which would mean it was working).
    Anyway, out of desperation i reformatted the thing so now i have a super clean windows XP home (sp 3) installation. The only drivers i have installed are the power management, wireless lan (the most up to date drivers) and ATI graphics ones. The wireless radio is 'on' (?), and everything else is exactly the same as my old laptop.
    It can't be my router as my family can all connect to it, and so can I. The only quirky thing is that on my T42 (XP SP1) i can set the index key to 0. It was previously at 1, and for some reason wasn't connecting until i changed it to 0 (might just be computer fate). But, of course, the index key on the T 500 only goes from 1-4 (don't know if this matters so much).
    Long story short - i don't think it's the router. It doesn't use filtering. I can see the wireless network. I can enter my password. I have no firewalls (the installation is CLEAN 100% pretty much). I have the most up-to-date driver for the wireless card (should i have a less updated driver?). I have the wireless radio 'ON' and i think i have all bases covered. (oh, and because it's clean i have NO lenovo apps)
    Is the problem a hardware thing? a driver thing? or just some stupid thing i've missed. Please help i have tried pretty **bleep** hard to fix it.

    can you back date the bios to the older one?

    Jin Li

  • Openbox 3.2 Installation Troubles --solved

    I'm using widget, and I was not able to startX after configuring it (suing X-configure) the error was mouse-related. I read some of the documentation, and saw the recommendation to update openbox.
    So i download openbox-3.2.tar.gz, and decompress it. I then cd into the dir, and type ./configure. all is well, it tells me to type make. I do, and i get an error message.
    "make: *** [all-recusive] Error 1"
    There was more, but it would be a hassle to type out, just ask if you need more, and this isnt just a basic problem.
    edit: for any newbies who find this: in your XF86Config file, change the device option under the mouse section to be /dev/psaux, if you are using a ps/2 mouse.

    the compiling trouble is maybe because of the incompatiblity with the gcc 3.4.0
    did you used ABS to rebuild it?
    try to update it first with pacman, as Dusty explained

  • PDF trouble-solving.

    I had troubles viewing and manipulating PDF´s in Safari browser.
    After downloading a PDF document, and then fiddeling with buttons/options in the browser-window, I lost access to the document, and the browser-window froze.
     Just the browser "return page"-button; where available. A reload of the document returned a blank page.
    Adobe Reader manual did not give me fixes for this, so I turned to MacUpdate.
    At http://www.macupdate.com/ I found 2 options resolving my problem;
    "PDF Browser Plugin 2.2.3" and "Safari-Display or Download PDF files 1.2".
    The former is really a treat. Both is free for personal use. I have asked the developer of the former one; where to donate. No reply from him yet. I will further that information if it´s possible, at this site.
    I suggest all personal users of these plugins honour the developers.
    These plugins, both fixes PDF-viewing-issues in Safari, and maybe other browsers.
    "PDF Browser Plugin 2.2.3" has more options, but "Safari-Display or Download PDF files 1.2", fixes your basic PDF-view-problems.
    Hope this info will be of use, for those stranded between mind, PDF´s, keyboard and screen.
