Wireless up, Wireless down

We have consistely poor luck with our wireless connection staying up for more than 4 or 5 days in a row.  We have an Actiontec GT704 that is about 6-7 years old.  We go through the turn it off, turn it back on once or more each time the wireless signal dies & eventually it brings the signal back up.  I've had chat support look at it & they claim to see no issues with what they can diagnose.  They also say the router is fine.
Does anyone have any thoughts on where I go from here?  Do I have verizon come out for a repair call, although as I've just learned there is an apparent charge for this?!?!?!?!  New router?
Just not sure on this one & getting more and more frustrated each time it dies.  Thanks!

  • M10-broke? Wireless down, but cable up...

Bought M10 April 2010 and thought my router needs were supplied for many years.  But today, I have no wireless Internet, but a cable connection still gives Internet access.
I've tried reset button, powered down/up both DSL modem and router... --> no change.
Seems like wireless portion of my M10 is broke   ... or not?
All lights seemed to be working properly...  any clues?

    Hi,
Since the wired connection thru the router is working, I suggest you manually configure the wireless settings.
You do it wired first to the router. Here are the links that will guide you with the set up.

  • Wireless down after downloading itunes5

after following the 4 steps to install itunes5 i am left without a wireless connection.
I am needing advice on how to reverse the steps taken to disable bonjour, error 1920, and my firewall settings to install itunes.
I have a hunch that my failure to connect is do to connection restrictions-- right now my norton's is complete disabled.
    thanks for any help,

Ok- In general, here is what you need to check next. You need to go to the configuration settings of your router, verify that your wifi is in fact turned on, and note the name of your wireless network.
Here is instructions for your router...
    http://www.filesaveas.com/bthomehub_wireless.html
Do all steps until "Setting up a device to connect wirelessly"
After that, you need to bring your Mac mini within range of the wifi network (next to the router would be good to eliminate variables), start up the mini, and verify the following- 1. verify that Airport is turned on. 2. Select the wifi network you just configured. 3. type in the password you set in the wifi configuration step. 4. Try to access internet with Mini.
If all that works, then we have narrowed the problem to the wifi extender.
If that doesnt work, there might be a problem with the security settings of the router, interference (like a microwave is on or something like that), or another variable- let us know.

  • Is Verizon Wireless Down in Northern California 2-15-2014?

No service available in the Willow Creek, Northern California region. Everything went dead at approximately 5:15 p.m. 2/15/2014 today. Anyone else having issues? Verizon, what is going on?

Thank you for your interest in my dropped cellular service issue. I live in
    the 96067 Area code.
I do work with others in the  Forest Service here in Mount Shasta who have
mentioned a similar recent drop in cell service in the last 90 days or so.
Two of these individuals live within a two mile radius of my house.  After
enjoying Verizon Wireless service in my area for the past 10 years and to
have my service at my house drop to unusable for the first time in that
period with no explanation other than I am now being told I live in a
    "*marginal
area*" is totally unacceptable. Up until the past 90 days I have not had a
problem with dropped calls inside or outside of my home. I own commercial
property here in Mount Shasta and require reliable communication with my
tenants. Again I must emphasize strongly that up until 90 days or so ago in
my area I have enjoyed such service from Verizon with my clients confident
in the knowledge that instant response to their concerns was always at
hand. Now that confidence has been lost. Whatever the reason Verizon now
produces to explain away the disruption in service I am still left
with having to search out another cellular service provider, change phone
number contacts for all of my clients as well as family and friends. I am
not looking forward to any of this.

  • Wireless issues with WRT120N

I have a newly purchased WRT120N and have set up a small home network.  Right now it's pretty simple:
Motorolla Surfboard S85100 cable modem>Cisco/Linksys WRT120N>AMD PhenomX4 Hp Pavilion(running Vista home premium Service pack 2)------Airport card equipped Apple Mac Pro( running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and Leopard 10.5.8 on 2 separate drives- wireless from the router).  The Airport card is installed properly and working fine.  The router is in a centralized location upstairs on the 1st floor and the Mac Pro is in the basement(The house is not big it's 2000 sq. feet with wood floors...no metal).
The wireless to the Mac is what's important here.  It's in my basement home recording studio whereI previously had no internet  causing me to run up and down the stairs with usb flash drives for downloaded updates and software installs. I got the router to aleiviate all this exercise.....only now I'm back to it again.  In fact it's worse than it was!
For the first few weeks everything was great.  Wireless down in the studio worked great and I was able to download any file without interruption, Skype worked brilliantly!  Then...without anything being moved physically by me....Skype was poor and  Airport would be searching for the network asking to enter my key only to then time me out!?  To combat this I've had re-start after re-start, running upstairs and un-plugging the router, moving the router around, etc......and getting a signal when I'm booted into Leopard is even worse.  I'm just short of going out and getting a 40ft. ethernet cable and hardwiring to the Mac Pro but that is not only more money than the router and the Airport card put together but dashes the whole wireless concept(which is supposed to work!).  Do I need to get a better router with more bandwidth?(The salesperson I spoke with said this one would be all I need to do what I wanted and He had a basement setup too).
Seriously what can I do to make this work for me!?

Login to the setup page of your router and click on the Wireless tab and below change the Wireless Channel to 1 0r 11 and then click on the sub tab Advance Wireless tab and below Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Two actiontec routers for WIRELESS use

    Hi-
I have read the other threads that I could find re: two routers but they all seem to pertain to something other than what I am looking for.
My problem: I have the FIOS big white box (is this the ONT?)  in my basement. I have the Actiontec router on the 1st floor in a room that is an extension (no basement access). I have an office in my basement and use the wireless from the 1st floor for interntet. The wireless signal from the actiontec used to be full blast in the basement but since I had the basement "redone" I now have literally no signal. My contractor thinks that maybe it is the double thickness drywall (soundproofing).
I called VZ and they offered me a new router, so that is coming in the mail. However, I am pretty certain it is not the router as my signal in the rest of the house is excellent.
Question 1) Can I hook ANYTHING to that big white box? Either my Mac that is down there via ethernet or a second Actiontec?
Question 2) I would love to have wireless down there. Can I have a second Actiontec down there that has either the same or a different wireless network?
Note: I do have a tv connection in my living room on the first floor. If it were possible to move my router to there and split the coax between the tv box and the router, I could possibly run a hardwire through the floor into the basement if that was the best way to get wireless down there again.

I don't have much to add as far as solutions. (Looks like the others pretty much have that covered anyway.)
I am curious though. Why did you put "redone" in quotes and why does it need to be soundproof? What exactly are you planning on dong in your, uh, office?

I've had this same problem for the last few months.  Called support last week and tech said it was probably channel conflict.  Not sure why channel conflict would take the entire wireless down though...  Tech recommended that .ac technology is not for everybody and that I would be more satisfied with older n series router?!?!  He opened a case and said I should call customer support and ask to RMA the router I have and purchase an n series router or the new ac router Linksys just announced.  Just spoke with another tech and she wanted to charge me for additional support.  This is exactly what I was afraid of when Belkin purchased Linksys!  I'll be ripping out my current router and purchasing another brand.  Sorry just realized this should be posted under the EA6900ac post.  Still dissapointed wtih Linksys.

  • WRT54Gv6 Slow when wireless is active.

I've searched the forums and haven't found a reference to what I'm experiencing, so here goes...if anyone can help, please post:
I have a WRT54G (v6) which runs fantastically when I have the wireless mode set to disabled.  As soon as I set the wireless mode to anything else, my wired PCs slow to such a crawl they cannot load webpages, but the wireless communicates at a slow, but tolerable speed.
I called Linksys C.S. and the rep had my change MTU to 1400 and clone the MAC.  This did nothing.
I then did a factory reset, and engaged a tech in LiveChat...the tech had me change the following settings, to no avail:
    1.) MTU - Manual, Size - 1300
2.) Basic Wireless Settings sub tab:
    Channel- 11
3.) Advance Wireless Settings sub tab:
    Beacon Interval = 50.
    RTS Threshold = 2304.
    Fragmentation Threshold = 2304.
    Transmission Rate = 54 Mbps
I've never run into this before, and the problem is recreatable at will by toggling the wireless antenna on or off.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Guys, great suggestions.  Though, I had already locked the wireless down with a WPA key and I am in a fairly rural area so there's not much chance of having the connection mooched if I hadn't secured it.  Even still, my ethernet cabled connections degrade the instant the antenna is 'turned-on' (set off Disabled), and work fine the instant the antenna is 'turned-off' (set to disabled).  Even if I was unsecured, the problems begin before any moochers would have time to connect, so I'm not looking at a bandwidth drain issue.
As a side question, does disabling the SSID Broadcast help as a security measure, or does it just make connecting more painful?

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet.  Are you still using the same wireless router.  The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace.  For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio.   I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.

  • I want to run down how dissatisfied I currently am with Verizon Wireless

I want to run down how dissatisfied I currently am with Verizon Wireless; this stated with the pre-order of the iPhones on Friday I like many other customers received the "ecdp" error on the web site and it took 45 minutes to actually be able to place the order.  I got the order in and had a 09/19/2014 ship date; spoke with a few Customer Service Reps in various areas such as 611, on many of the 800 numbers available, Internet Orders (including a Supervisor) and even a Social Media Service Rep all who have confirmed this ship date to be accurate.
Well today (09/17/2014) I check the Pre-Order Status page and my date has been changed to 10/14/2014 so I call in to speak to Internet Orders and the Rep advises me that yes my date was pushed back but no reason is supplied, I asked to speak to a Supervisor and was transferred to Howard, Operator # 2431235, who stated that yes the prior rep was accurate and that there was no reason available as to why my ship date changed.  Howard continues by stating that as per upper management, Apple reported to Verizon that no iPhone 6+'s would be available at launch for Verizon to ship and that this has been common knowledge, within the company, that the 6+'s were not shipping until 10/14/2014, and that prior Verizon employee's to include supervisors were misinforming me of my shipping date.  Howard continued to state that the reason I got the "ecdp" error was because of the company that I work for as Verizon offers a discount so the 'ecdp" error is not something Verizon is currently addressing.  Howard then tells me not to worry that with the 10/14 date is a guaranteed delivery date and not to worry, if the phones come in early the order will be filled, I at this point ask Howard to note my account with our conversation to include the fact that he stated the 10/14 was a guaranteed date, at this point he states that while he is telling me this he will not put it in writing as at that point Verizon would be obligated to meet that date at minimum and he was not willing to put his position on the line if the phone is not shipped by that date(this can be confirmed by reviewing the recording of the call as I was advised that I was on a recorded line).  I then asked to speak to his supervisor and was told his supervisor went home for the day and that he was the highest level supervisor on at this time.  When I then asked for his supervisors contact information to lodge a complaint he said that I would need to call back in on 611 from my handset as Customer Service handles complaints not supervisors.
I did call back and speak with a Representative on 611 who tried to assist but was not able to do much, this rep took my information and is having their supervisor call me to try addressing the way Howard handled the call however this has not occurred at the time of this writing.  I did tell this rep that I was honestly considering going to another carrier, (I have been with Verizon 7-8 years and currently have 10 lines of service on my account) I know I will not get the iPhone 6+ on launch day with another carrier which was not the driving factor but rather the way Howard dealt with the situation and the lack of respect that as a customer of Verizon I have always got from other representatives, as you know it takes one person to sour someone on a whole company, Howard even stated that if I want to go to another carrier that was fine with him.  However, the Customer Service Rep I spoke with after Howard (I wish I could remember his name) calmed me down not to leave Verizon but did agree that a complaint needed to be filed, personally I would like to file it directly with an Associate Vice President or higher but do understand that there is a “Chain of Command” that needs to be filed
Let this be a warning to anyone who call internet sale and gets Howard, operator #2431235, I would suggest you immediately request a different supervisor that will treat you with respect.  As stated above Howard will tell you that the iPhone 6+ was not and has never been available to ship on launch day due to Apple purposely not providing enough units to meet the demand and that Verizon knew this while taking our pre-orders.

I feel your pain Robert. I do believe VZW and Apple knew all along the I6 Plus would not be available on 19 Sep and that it was a way to bolster new contracts, renewed contracts and apple sales stats. It's unfortunate the company wasn't more clairvoyant, most of us would have still pre-ordered but been a little less frustrated.

  • How to find out what is slowing down your wireless speed

The first thing you need to do is when setting up your wireless internet is do it right from the beginning. For starters unplug and remove the batteries from all the cordless phones. If you have a wireless door bell or a repeater shut it off and unplug it.. Anything that is wireless in your house needs to be turned off. This also includes cell phones, Ipad's and Ipod's.This thing of telling the homeowner that the mircowave is causing problem is hog wash. But don't have it running while you are setting this up. In other words nothing in your house should be running including the AC and heat. Anything that is pulling hi amperage should be shut down during the set up. Now unplug all cables on the router except for your computer cable and power supply to the router. Hold the reset button in long enough to clear all settings. Now you are ready to set this up right. Sign into your router and go to My Network, if it is showing something other that your main frame computer you still have something on that the router is picking up. Find it and turn if off and reset the router again. Once everything is cleaned and the only this showing up is the computer you are ready. Now go to Speed Net or what ever you check your speed with and write down your average speed. Do three or four speed test to get the average reading. BTW, clear all cookies before you check your speed. Now go back into your router settings and rename you computer to what ever so you won't get that IP address confused with the rest of your hook up. Next take only one of your wireless devices and turn it on. Once the router picks it up rename it and put the security code on for that device to connect to the wireless device. It should also show it as being a wireless device. Also if all your devices can except performance mode go for it because the speeds will always be faster. Also start selecting one channel at a time to find the one that has the fastest speed. Try doing this close to the router, like in the same room. If you are using the performance mode your upload and download should be close to your wired connection. Now go to different parts of the house. You will see some drops but that is normal. Don't do this test on a PS3 or a WII because those speeds will always be slow no matter what you do. All Apple products won't work with Speed Net. Once you get connected to the internet it is always better to go back into your router and write down the assigned IP address and the IP address to the router sign in and manually put them in to each device. Always remember the higher security setting you can set you the faster the speed will be. Do each device as said in the above way. Something else you also might want to do is after you have set up each wireless device go back into your router setting under Wireless settings and disable SSID Broadcast. Only thing this will do is make it to where nobody can see your wireless connection. That way when someone wants to hack your router they won't be able to see it...ya can't hack what ya can't see....lol. Once you get all said wireless devices set up and connected then go back and start turning on phones...ect..ect. If you are truly getting interference you will be able to change the channel on either that device or change the channel on the router for that device. Most of the devices in this day and time should be able to except the 802.11n or the next letter down. The bad thing about the newest Verizon router is the security is still outdated for the PS3. Part two of this is Sony is still using a crap-o-la wireless internet receiver, as a result I don't care what cha do unless you hard wire it in and that still only helps some. Also this thing of putting your router on the window seal or up near the ceiling is also poo poo. If this was a true case why not just hook up a High Def antenna in the room...lol Also this thing of stating don't put the router near a wall is also doo doo. Their would have to be a load of copper wire in that wall to prevent a signal from going through it. If you think about it all wall electrical outlets are wired low to the floor. They take one room and wire them all together. They don't wire it up and down the walls. So most rooms have the wiring a foot from the floor. The most wire you will find in a house at one location is at the circuit breaker box and the box should be on a outside wall in the garage. In older homes like the 40's and 50's some are in the kitchen or a bedroom closet. On the older homes try and steer clear of those locations. Now if you are getting interference from something in your home this will be a easy way to find it. One thing Verizon needs to stop telling it's customer and that is if you get a faster speed which is more money it will correct your wireless problem...hog wash Once you spend your hard earned money and sign the contract, they forget to tell you they only guarantee that speed if it is hard wired...lol for some reason they always forget that part.

I forgot to suggest one more thing. On your computer go to start/ run/ type in MSCONFIG and go all the way to the right and click start up and then at the bottom select disable all and then reboot. Windows will only load what it need to operate. After that go back into MSCONFIG and go back to the start up and put a check into what ever security program you are using and reboot. Everything will still work fine. The only thing you are doing here is not running all the programs each time you turn your computer on.What this will do if you do this is it will start programs faster and it also is less wear and tear on your pooter. If you want to see what I am talking about go here>> http://www.blackviper.com/ and he will explain and show in full detail what I am talking about as far as being robbed by unnecessary programs running in the back ground. He will also explain the correct way of disabling things that you will never use. MS is set up for remote operation. Like calling your pooter from a phone which I am pretty sure most don't use that feature. If you want to see what happens when you go to any site while surfing download the free copy of CrapCleaner, run it and let it remove all the internet clutter and cookies, then go to one site and close IE down and rerun CrapCleaner again. You will then see what is really slowing down your internet speed. If you are using Windows 7 or 8 you need to go to Control Panel/ Taskbar and Start Menu/ then select Start menu again/ Customize/ and scroll down to Run Command and check it. Now you will be able to see the run command. I don't know why MS removed that feature.

  • IMac shutting down on startup - Can't enter safe mode as wireless keyboard doesn't connect quickly enough

    Hi all,
I was planning to use bootcamp to install Windows 7 on my mid-2010 21.5" iMac.
Bootcamp recommended I usk disk utility to repair the drive. I had a snow leopard install disk in the drive, (I didn't realise Lion already had it's recovery tools built in to the hard drive.)
Disk utility said it can't repair the drive and recommended I start backing up my data (because the hard drive could be about to fail). Fine, so I restarted, with the intention of backing up everything (all my work for the last 12 months). So I press the power button, grey screen comes up, then the apple logo, then a progress bar appears (found this odd at first, but later found out it has something to do with disk utility and a bad hard drive) it gets to around 20% and then all power is cut from the iMac and the hard drive stops/everything powers down.
Now, I can't seem to get my iMac to boot into recovery utilities or into safe mode because it doesn't connect to the wireless keyboard in time before it shuts down. So, if I use a wired keyboard (I have a dell USB keyboard that I can take from the office), will I be able to boot into safe mode?
Also, if the disk in drive is causing the problem, then I can't remove it because the wireless keyboard won't connect/register any keypresses.

    Ok so, status report:
Wired keyboard is non responsive when I plug it in before/during boot. So i guess it needs to be plugged in before the iMac shut down. That's that out the window.
Plugged in headphones and I can't hear the startup chime so don't know when to start holding buttons.
To make matters worse, the wireless keyboard is no longer paired with the iMac, getting a green blinking light which indicates it wants to connect to a computer or device.
So I can't enter any commands whatsoever, can't remove the disk in the drive or boot safe mode. It's my worst nightmare.

  • Using "delete" key on Apple's wireless keyboard shut down applications on my ipad, such as Mail, in Japanese Font.  Any solution?

I use Apple's wireless keyboard to type email messages on my ipad.  Often applications, such as Mail, would shut down suddenly after using "delete" key on the wireless keyboard.  This happens when I am typing in Japanese language.  It is really annoying because I will lose all the text that are not saved.  Any suggestions?

Sorry but that was a completely pointless post.
