Wireless Update

Alright, I know that there is a newer version of the software out there, but my phone will not pick it up for the life of itself! I know plenty of people that have a blackberry and they all have the new version! I still have the old one. I've hooked it up to my computer, and tried to do it wirelessly, but whenever I do it says that there isn't a new update available.

See the link below for the download.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • After wireless update error 500/404 on Accept link

after doing the wireless update I'm trying to connect to the internet via the explorer browser... have to click on the "i accept" button getting a HTTP Error 500 Internal Server Error....
I can connect using my facebook app or my other apps just not the browser app.

    Hi there!
    I suggest the following steps:
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > BBKey (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!

  • BBM: Uncaught exception: java.langlNullPointerException After wireless update!!

just did the wireless update (should have known better), so far, Blackberry messenger and Yahoo are giving me the error....any ideas?

Ah thank you for clarifying (and changing the topic title )
Personally, I avoid Wireless updates as there are too many variables to control for my liking.
Try doing a Clean Reload of the OS with desktop manager. That should get it
    Hope that helps

  • OMG HELP!! CONTACTS MISSING (after prompted "wireless update")

a few months ago i was promted to do a 'wireless update', and a new 'wireless update' icon appeared on my menu.  i ignored it until yesterday and decided it couldnt hurt to 'update' something...... WRONG.... after the 2 hour or so 'updating' looked like everything was pretty reset, all my icons in different locations, homescreen was default.  I also noticed that NONE of my address book contacts were there.  BBM contacts were, but no address book... ive searched the internet for solutions and have found none, nor have i even found any of this same issue....
If this 'update' deletes all contacts for some reason... shouldnt that be made pretty clear before allowing you to 'update'??? PoFS.... HELP PLEASE or i'll be short a 'smart' phone by the end of the week!! thanks!!
    Sprint carrier
    curve 8330m

Hi, and thank you for the response.  I know now that i should have done a back-up... too little too late, as they say.... But i am sure now, after checking, that there are no filters set for the address book.  Under my 'recent calls' list, for the calls that were made prior to the update, it still shows the names of my contacts (with numbers), and will call them from that list.. but still no address book entries, and as i checked the "number of entries" in the options menu for the address book, it states there are "0".  and also still shows exceptions for the ring tones under those names..... "BRILLIANT" is all i can think of right now... so much for 'smart'phone....

  • New Tour Wireless Update?

My tour is saying there is a wireless update available but I am afraid to update it since the last 5.0 version bricked my phone, forcing me to revert back to the old 4.7 version.  I'm not sure if this is a newer update or if it is just having me update again to the 5.0 version.  Can anyone answer this for me please? I really don't want to have to update it then lose certain things and reorganize EVERYTHING again like I had to do the last time! Thanks!

BEFORE you do any updates, use Desktop Manager to backup your device.
That means IN ADVANCE of upgrading. Then you physically look and confirm that the backup *.ipd file is saved to your PC, normally to your My Documents folder.
So, on the upgrade -- no, you don't have to do so. If your Tour is working well and doing everything you need... no, don't upgrade.
But I'll say, OS 5 is nice.
If you want to upgrade a safer route, don't use the Desktop Manager upgrade, do this::
See the link below, for the download and simple installation instructions.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

  • OS Wireless Update

On the Tour 9630 the link for "Wireless Update" is missing from Advanced Options.  When RIM releases an upgrade how are we Mac users going to get it?  Don't say PocketMac as that piece of crap never has worked since its inception.  Thanks.

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.

  • No Wireless Update

My blackberry torch doesn't have the option to update or to check for available wireless updates. What do I do to solve this problem?

I believe that for the torch the wireless updates are under optios -> Device -> Software updates, if you go there and it is not there as an option, sometimes this option can be disabled by an it policy if you're on a BES or by the carrier

  • Wireless Update Icon

I have a new icon that appeared on my screen for wireless update.  I do not want to update to 6.0 and I do not want the constant reminder to do so.  How do I remove this icon and get my recent calls icon back on my screen?
I have the Curve 9330. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Issue has now been resolved.

  • Wireless update freezes phone now stuck please help

my torch has started a wirless update but when getting through back up freezes between 8 an 20 % . Have noticed in forum that this is known but for a computer update you just take out this as a back up option but on a wireless update the phone is stuck if I do a battery pull and put itback after few mins it starts again and tries to update is there anyway to cancel update or solve this. tried pluggin into pc but doesnt do anything different. please help

    Hello,
A forced wireless update? I've honestly never seen that...quite unusual...normally, you must initiate the process. Nevertheless, as I'm sure you've seen, OTA updates are NEVER recommended for exactly the situation you are experiencing. The OTA update conducts an on-device backup, which is used to restore after a successful OS update. But, if anything should go wrong, that backup file is lost forever. Hence, updating via PC is recommended since you then have the opportunity to take a manual backup and store that resulting IPD file on your PC.
But, back to your issue...the update being forced is rather strange. If there's no way to prevent it, then perhaps you could try the following:
Turn off all network connections (both mobile carrier data network as well as WiFi) and then do a batt-pull reboot. See if the update continues to be forced...if not, then proceed with a PC/USB based update.
Failing that, try booting into Safe Mode and see if you can then keep the forced update from running:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
I've honestly never tried to update the BB OS (from a PC) when the BB is in Safe Mode, but you could give that a try and see if it helps.
Let us know how those attempts work out for you.
    Cheers!

  • My MBP has been acting odd since installing N wireless update.

Since installing the N wireless protocol on my MBP my machine has been acting weird. It fails to see wireless networks, the system preferences fails to open at times. OSX freezes, Force quit doesn't actually quit the programs after they have frozen. Basically its so bad i am thinking about re-formatting my machine and starting again, (its only a week old)
Am I the only one who has this?

    Well..that is a bummer....
I did notice something else, don't know if it makes sense or not, but if the mac crashes while connected to my Airport Express at home, the Airport Express stops responding and all of the clients that are connected to it stop getting access to the Internet until I unplug it and plug it back in.
When the issue first arose, I thought it was a problem with the AP express, but since it happens even more frequently when using other routers, I know that is not the issue. Besides, everything was fine until I installed the Wireless-N update. I wonder if there is any way to remove the update?
I'll keep playing with it, but hopefully they find a solution soon. Being that our problem is exactly the same, I would be surprised if no one else is having this issue as well.

  • Airport wireless update installation v1.0 on Pismo/Panther

I'm getting a blue, then grey screen on startup on my Pismo after updating the latest Apple update for wireless three days ago...
    Can boot into safe mode (cmd-s on restart);
fsck -fy checks out no problems.
Boots as target disk, and hd is ok.
Boots from CD, and HD has no repair errors.
Tried holding the reset PMU button for 5-20 secs and then wait 5 seconds and restart
    Tried resetting the PRAM, cmd-Opt PR;
Can boot into Classic, also tried reinstalling Panther on second partition no problem, but it won't boot. Same GSOD.
Used Panther CD to repair Permissions.
Tried Reset Open firmware (cmd-Opt OF) typed "reset-nvram" and hit the Return key, then type "reset-all" and hit the Return key again. No effect.

Be aware that the last Airport update was for machines using Airport Extreme cards. Pismos do not use Airport Extreme cards, so the update is not only unnecessary, but likely caused the problem you had. Furthermore, it might also affect the ability of the Pismo to use wireless cards.
Airport updates are usually "optional" in the sense that you don't need to install them unless they are appropriate for your particular model and wireless needs. Before installing Airport updates carefully read the information to determine if the update is even needed. If it isn't, don't install it.

  • Blackberry device software wireless update adnormal error detected

    Hi,
I tried to upgrade my software for my BB CUrve 9300, wirelessly but now the phone enters a reset loop  with the message:
Abnormal reset detected during update. Press any key to return to pre-update configuration
I have tried everything, pulling the battery, the sim card, the memory card but its still on the loop. I found a similar post from 2010 below which is the same problem but no resolution was made.
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB25294&sliceId=1&cmd=displayKC&d...
    Help please?!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    (Credit JSanders)
Here are two methods of recovery for you to try:
    One:
Open Blackberry Desktop Software & Connect your device with PC using USB cable, without inserting battery.
You will get three option Retry, Update Or Cancel, then click on update.
Once it is to the stage of the update "initializing handheld", then insert battery.
If this does not work, and you remain stuck on the backing up the Social Feeds database, go to the second method below.
    Secondly:
Start your BlackBerry in Safe mode.  Article ID: KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Modehttp://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17877
Connect to the BlackBerry Desktop Software and allow your handheld to connect. If you are prompted to upgrade, cancel the upgrade for later.
IF you cannot connect or your Desktop Software does not recognize your device while in Safe Mode, please follow the directions here to force the detect:  Article ID: KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
Go to Device > delete > SELECT DATA > select to delete both the Social Feeds and Smart Card databases, and follow the remaining prompts to complete it.
Now, you can return and click to upgrade the device through the Desktop Manager, or reboot the BlackBerry in normal mode and continue the over the air upgrade.

  • Phtosmart wireless update fails. - uninstall loop ensues.

HP Install Error - Windows 7: Anyone help with scenario below?
Unsolicited Photosmart wireless HP109n-z software update fails on install. Report raised then continue. Asks to wait while unsuccessful install is removed. THis fails as existing uninstall still in progress. NO other uninstall visible, so cannot remove. Clear down message boxes and select restart message from installer. Reboot simply takes you back to same loop!
Solution xml placed on desktop still requires the uninstall process to be completed. I suspect a registry flag and manual uninstall may be solution. What reg settings required? What do remove from file system?
This message constantly interrupted by continuing update/fail/restart requests!

  • Wrong System Tray icon after Wireless update

    I recently installed this update:
ThinkPad 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
    Version:
    1.00.0029.2
    Release Date:
    2010/11/3
on my T500 to try and correct a slow-connect problem after sleep mode.  Instead of fixing the problem, now the icon in the system tray is the wired-connection icon (square with a plug on the left side), with a red "X", even when the wireless connection is active and working.
Anybody know about this?  Anybody know if there's an email tech support address (system is under warranty) rather than having to phone them??  I've searched the support site and haven't been able to find a link to email support.  You'd think they would prefer email to staffing phone calls....
    Thanks.

This was a "sanctioned" update via the Lenovo update feed - it screwed things up, didn't fix my problem, and nobody has repled to the issue.  Is this the wrong forum to be paying attention to?  So far, it seems so.
But thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

You are reading the wrong instructions. Peter gave you a link to here.
From there you can download the self-extracting file qx33v290.exe to your hard drive (use Save As - not Run).
When you execute it, several files will appear in a folder you can choose using the Browse button.
Open the file readme.txt (attached) for instructions. I recommend you choose the third option and install from the bootable BIOS installation CD instead of from within Windows.
