Wireless USB hook-up need driver??

I have a powermac g4. I have purchased D-Link wireless router on my pc downstairs, I then have the USB card for my mac upstairs, but it is acting like I need a driver for my mac in order to get this wireless usb to work. Apple doesn't supply and/or D-Link wireless company doesn't either. How and where can I get a driver for this usb downloaded from my pc? or a hard copy to load to the power mac????? I'm stuck please help.
Thank you.

Vincent,
Everyone else here was so helpful to me, that I thought I'd try a bit to help someone else.
I was in a situation semi-similar to yours many years ago.
In short, you want to be able to use your mac to connect/configure your D-Link wireless router.
If you are using a non-apple device to try to connect to your wireless router, you will most likely need a driver to allow that device to communicate with your OS. When I first started with macs, I was considering the same thing with a Linksys wireless USB.
What I learned was that it really wasn't worth the hassle trying to get your OS talking to the device when what you want is for that device to talk to the router.
I ended up returning my Linksys Wireless USB, and purchasing an Apple Airport Extreme Card for my Powermac G4 MDD, and have never had a problem connecting to various other third party routers (linksys, netgear, d-link, 2wire, belkin, etc.) They all worked great for me, even through several walls or from a downstairs room to an upstairs router.
If possible, you might want to consider returning your D-Link wireless USB and just picking up the Apple Airport Extreme Card somewhere and save yourself the hassle. You shouldn't have any problems connecting to your D-Link Wireless Router that way.
Again, I'm not entirely sure if this is a solution you would consider, but I hope it helps in some way. Good Luck!

Setup instructions for the TouchSmart 320-1030 state a wireless USB receiver is needed for the wireless keyboard/mouse but none was found in packaging. Is a USB receiver needed or is the receiver built in?

    Hello Dsnow:
Yes it is needed and if look behind your Touch Smart at the bottom you will see its usb port where it goes. It may be located there all ready just remove tape and push it in. It is very small and might be still in the packageing. Contact HP Direct Support if you do not have it. They will send you a new one takes up to three days because they will Federal Expres it. Your computer came with one warranty and that is covered.

A wireless printer connects to the network just like your computer, or iPhone/iPad, etc. connects using wireless.
The printer must be set up intially to scan to "find" available wireless networks, then your specific wireless network needs to be selected. Then the password for the network needs to be entered.
Once the printer is configured to join the network, it is always connected to the network. No further configuration is required.

i need Mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter model no TL-WN7200ND

First of all, TP-Link does not provide OS X drivers for that adapter. However, there are other sources that have drivers like this one. It is not official and it may fail, but it has been tested by other users and it works correctly.

  • Need help on connecting USB: 300GB external hard drive to wireless router

    Hello,
I am trying to connect USB2.0 Maxtor 300GB external hard drive to my wireless router. Tried using Linksys new product NSLU2 which allows any USB cable external hard drive to NSLU2 device/network storage hub and then connect this NSLU2 directly to wireless router with the help of 10/100 Ethernet cable which allows to access external hard drive wirelessly.
Unfortunately Linksys NSLU2 is designed to supports USB external drives up to 250GB only.
Can any one advice me if there is any device I can use to connect my external hard drive to wireless router and access files without connecting/carrying USB external drive?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I used to work on my 3000 photos with GIMP on a P.C, but since I had a breakdown, I would like to carry on on my Mac as soon as possible.
Figuring out unaided a new OS after a breakdown is the best prescription for another breakdown.
Before going back to editing your photos, I suggest you need to familiarise yourself with your new OS. Get a book (eg, David Pogue's "Missing Manual…") -- now, that Lion's been out and about for some time, you can probably get the Snow Leopard (aka Mac OS X v10.6) edition at a discount. Take the time to read it and understand it, and you'll spare yourself a mountain of frustration. There are enough similarities between Mac OS X and Windows to fool you into believing almost everything works the same way, when, of course, it doesn't -- many similarities are only skin-deep.
Once you've done that, you'll be in a better position to install and use GIMP or look for alternatives.
where do I find the exact version (in french)
For French issues, you are probably better off checking the forums on MacBidouille or MacGeneration.

I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

Hi Bill I noticed that list you posted mainly shows devices that require purchasing 3rd party drivers from companies such as ioxperts.
If you use a device that has ralink chipset you can use their drivers free of charge.

They seem to be few and far between saxman.
One is shown here, but no details of manufacture are given.
The major issue, I think, for any practical use over bluetooth is speed. BT is very, very, slow.
BT 2.1 with EDR, (the version on your MBP) supports theoretical transfer rates of up to 3 Mbit/s. 802.11n Wireless networking supports theoretical speeds of up to 100 times faster. USB2 supports theoretical rates up to 160 times faster than BT.
People already complain about the slow speed when transferring to USB drives attached to their 802.11n Airport extreme base stations. Can you imagine what it would be like accessing a drive over something 100 times slower! BT just won't cut it for the sorts of purposes you are speaking of.
Using 802.11n makes much more sense, and you can do this with an Airport extreme or Airport Express Base Station, to connect to devices like printers and HDs. You can even attach a hub to them, but they won't support other sorts of USB devices like scanners etc. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2421 for details

  • Skyr@cer usb wifi: installing zydas driver

    Hi,
First and foremost, I hope that this stands in the right place. I'm new to these forum, and seen the fast that this is not high performance networking, I have put this here. I hope this is right?
Now to the point. I have just installed solaris 10 as my first non windows OS. Perhaps this was not the smartest thing to do, anyway, the install itself was not that hard. The problems came when I wanted to install my wireless usb stick. It is using a zydas chip.
    So I downloaded a driver I found.
    linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net/
And then I try to follow the instruction in the readme file. The terminal finishes only after I manually created the directories needed. I don't like that fact that I had to do this myself. Is this normal? Doesn't solaris has some preset directories for such things?
    the directories I created:
    /etc/firmware and /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/
So now I'm assuming that I have installed the drivers. However, when I plug the usb stick in, I get a message that no driver was found, so it didn't install eventough everything went fine?
I'm thinking that maybe I need to say the os what driver to use, though I couldn't find how to do this. And frankly why should I? If the os understands that there is a device, why can't it see what driver to use.
Conclusion, I have no idea what to do next, even ndiswrapper won't install, probably needs C compiler or something, though I actually don't want to run the driver in a virtual machine. I don't know if my computer will survive.

I would suggest you verify with if your all components on your system are supported. Wifi support in Solaris 10 is weak. This has significantly improved in Solaris Developer Express.
    Here are some useful links.
    http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/getting_started_guide.html
There is also a tool called Device Detection Tool that you can run under windows that will provide a good idea of the devices that are supported.
The pointer to that is also in the link provided above or you can pull it from here:

  • Airport dual enet snow and usb 802.11g wireless usb adapter

Can I use a wireless 802.11g adapter with my imac (iLamp)to connect to my snow base station, or bo I need ans xxx.11g /b adapter?

Sorry - I missed that from the title of your message.
The answer to that question is no - an exclusively 802.11g USB wireless adapter will not be able to connect to a Snow Base Station. I'd be surprised if this was ever an issue - I don't know of any exclusively 802.11g USB wireless adapters that work with Macs.
I suggest you avoid use of USB wireless adapters with Macs. Yes some people have used them successfully, but still more people have nothing but grief with these devices. Very, very few USB wireless adapters have any MacOS driver support in the first place.
