Wireless USB Network Card for Mac?

Can the iMac G4 (Flat Panel) recognize/use USB 2.0 (is it reverse compatible?) I For some reason I cannot get my wireless to connect reliably (will try the suggestion I received). My Ethernet connection is also not working. I would like to try a USB connector, but all of them I can find in store and even ebay are USB 2.0.
Thanks

Many of the USB 2.0 wireless adapter will work, but because USB 1.1 is so slow, the speed of the connection will be limited.
I have this one from OWC that is 802.11g capable

Your iMac G4 needs to have Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (due to its driver that you install). It works with my older Mac (a PowerBook) that has USB 1.1. However, due to the port speed, it only works at about the same speed as 802.11b.
As for your current problem, if you have not used the reset PMU procedure, you can give that a try.

  • Wireless USB Network Adaptor for Mac OS X 10.8

I'm sure this has been asked before and I'm sorry in advance if it has, I looked and didn't see anything.
I'm running VMware Fusion with Backtrack Linux. I'm a major at UNCC and my major is Software and Information Systems, so I'm trying to teach my self some of the fundamentals. I've learned that I need a wireless usb network adaptor to get backtrack working correctly, but seem to be having a really difficult time finding a good one because I'm on a mac. Here is the info (I think!) if I copied the wrong info, let me know and I'll look again:
Card Type:          AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0xD6)
    Firmware Version:          Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.81.22)
I was looking at some of the Alfa Network Adaptors, but do not think they are compatible with Broadcom. If they are then I am more lost/confused than I thought I was. Is there anybody here that is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and can offer some suggestions or point me in the right direction? Also, may clarify some of this stuff. I'm new to the field, so I apologize again. Thanks in advance.

The version required for 10.8 is called iWork 09, its is no longer available from Apple.
    There are plenty on ebay.

  • Suggest me a usb sound card for mac mini

please suggest me a usb sound card for mac mini (i need 5.1 sound)

The Griffin Technology FireWave will give you the 3 'cables' ("FireWave outputs six channel audio through three 1/8” (3.5mm) stereo mini-jacks: Left/Right, Center/Subwoofer and Right Surround/Left Surround.") connection for surround sound (speakers) audio. Whether or not a particular headphone set is compatible, you might ask Griffin directly about that. If you're playing a DVD with VLC or the Apple DVD Player, you will get surround sound. But, you'd have to find an MP3 with multi-channel audio inside it to play surround sound out of iTunes.

  • USB graphics cards for Mac

I have a 13" standard MacBook Pro and there is this animation software I'd like to use with a windows partition. The animation software itself needs a 1.5GB or more of dedicated video memory and I don't want to waste more money for a crappy, windows product. Are there any USB graphics cards with 2GB or more of dedicated video memory? If so, what are the make and models of them.

Two things make me think that the Maxtor may not be the solution for your customer:
    1. The maximum resolution for the Intel GMA950 integrated video chip is 1900 x 1200. The Maxtor "fools" the GPU to think it's a 3840 x 1200 monitor.
    2. The Intel GMA950 doesn't show up in the list of compatible GPUs on the Matrox site.

  • Wireless G PCI Cards for Quicksilver

I'm looking to get my dad a wireless G PCI network card for his Quicksilver G4. On the list are the Sonnet Aria, MacWireless 11g, and the Belkin Wireless G. Anyone have any experience with any of these cards? Do I have any other good options that I'm overlooking?
I'm also curious about the range we can expect to get from this card. Reason being is my brother lives one house down & across the street (about 100 yards.) Could my dad's G4 with one of these cards pick up the signal from my brother's Linksys wireless router? This is basically the whole point of getting one of these cards, so if there's no way to pick up the signal then it's all a wash...

Quoted: So is that saying typically I could expect to get 18 Mbps with this card 75 meters away from the airport basestation (or other wireless G router)?
Theoretically yes. Only this has been measured without any wall's or anything like that, just in open space. Also the wireless accespoint has to be able to send this distance.
The USB stick i mentioned above does perform here better than the original Airport Card in my iBook. But ik don't know if it will perform better than the Sonnet PCI card. Because the Sonnet card has a much bigger antenna, so it seems logic to me it has a stronger signal.
The speed should be exact the same. Both adaptor's are 54 Mbps, so should also be able to run at 54 Mbps. Ofcours you should not be to far away from the accespoint.
Here i have a Linksys WAP54G accespoint and my iBook with the Asus adaptor. At this moment i have a 54 Mbps connecton. There is about 15 meter between the accespoint and the iBook and two brick wall's.
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem. (see button's above this message)

  • Internet usb dongle card for macbook?

I am in the UK and have a black Macbook purchased October 2007 with built in web cam.
I want to purchase a dongle USB internet card for it so i can get web access for Skype.
Can I get such a thing? My of my clients want to stream her wedding via the built in web cam so her Dad back in Canada can see the service as the church does not have this kind of facility.
Ad this is a one of event, can i get a "pay as you go" dongle?

Hi Allister, Yes, all of the major UK mobile phone networks offer some kind of PAYG internet access via a dongle. Just like a PAYG mobile phone however, there is the initial outlay for the device so shop around your local phone shops. Before splashing out, you might like to check that the interior of the church isn't in a mobile phone blind spot - all that thick ancient stone! (Of course, if it's a modern church this may not apply, but still worth the check)
    Good luck,

  • Suggest USB PCI card for PM 7200/120

    Hi
I want to instal a USB PCI card in a 7200/120. It's running OS 8.6 with Apple USB Support 1.4.1 software. Also have Toast Titanium 5.2 with its Toast USB support extensions loaded. Also tried running OS 9.1 on alternative startup drive with same Apple USB Support 1.4.1 etc.
I've installed a 5 port USB v2 (32-bit host interface compliant to PCI spec release 2.2 and backward compatible with USB 1.1) card from Laser (www.laserco.net). The packaging says it's compatible with Win 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP but no mention of Mac. The 7200 doesn't see the card installed in PCI slot (checking Apple System Profiler). Double-checked to make sure the PCI was securely seated in the slot, tried different slot etc.
I also tried re-installing Apple USB Support v.1.2 on the OS 8.6 volume but still no good.
I'm in Australia and wondered if anyone can recommend a USB card that actually works in the 7200?

    Claudio,
Two years ago, this question was very common. Warnings were given about certain Belkin cards not working well. With the passage of time and the drop in price of newer used systems, few people spend money on upgrading older equipment. It can be done but the beige G3 is the minimum platform that most will work on. Here is a guide to Mac resources in Australia.
    http://www.tandb.com.au/buying/
This site sells a wide array of older Mac products. They offer an interesting list of prior models that they still buy, including 7300 models and IIci models. The 7200 is not on their list of models that are in demand.
    http://resale.headgap.com/
"TRADE-INS OR SELL YOUR OLD MAC
Remember we pay wholesale prices. Many times when you are ready to upgrade your old system may not be worth much, especially to a dealer who is used to buying in quantity at wholesale prices and has the units shipped in bulk truck freight. Boxing and shipping your old system costs a few dollars. Here lately we have been having more trouble locating older systems people are still buying. We will begin offering trade-ins or to buy outright certain older systems. The following are on the list: PowerMac G4, iMac G4, QuickSilver G4, Blue & White (REV 2 Only), G3 Desktops, PowerMac 7300, Quadra or Centris 650, and Mac IICI's and SI's. The units need to be cosmetically in good condition and working (at least chiming). Trade in value will vary from the top wholesale price for extra clean, that exceed stock configurations and down for less that prime units. We are also purchasing good used Apple Desktop Bus Mouse II ADB Mice, working StyleWriters, and SCSI Zip Drives."
Hope this helps. My experience with buying USB cards for Macs convinced me to only buy cards that are already installed in a working used Mac. The Mac costs $15 US and the card is free. I realize that your market is somewhat different. However, if it is hard to find a working card here, it will be even harder there.
Take note, even Headgap does not want Rev. 1 Blue and White Macs. Avoid them if you have a choice.
This company has iMacs for under $200 in Australia. That may be high and it may not be a current price.
    http://www.newwavesystems.com.au/pre-owned_imac.html
They also show a PowerMac G4/400MHz for $150 Australian here:
    http://www.newwavesystems.com.au/pre-owned_powermac.html
That would be money well spent compared to any upgrades to a 7200. Otherwise, find a recycler who knows a thing or two about Macs and wait for them to come across the right card for you.

It's that last sentence I'm curious about.  "However a MacPro already has much more capability already built in than Thunderbolt can add."
I'm thinking of getting a Mac Pro, but see that it doesn't seem to have Thunderbolt. I'm not sure if I care. The reason for the Mac Pro is that I'm topping out my 8gb RAM 27" iMac capacity with the volume of work going through it, and my tech tells me I'm pushing it too hard.  I use it to run a small law office, but usually have about 15 apps open, with lots going on in the network in the background.
Is there any reason to wait until Apple puts Thunderbolt into the Mac Pro?
Thunderbolt will not increase the performance capability of the MacPro. It will add a bus that can be convenient, especially later on when Thunderbolt devices become more common, more mature and better supported - oh, and with more common will come less costly. From a pure performance standpoint the existing PCIe slots are much more capable and cheaper to implement. You would be giving up nothing with a current MacPro.
My opinion. Thunderbolt is really a great move forward in the long run - needed something to replace Firewire and this is it. But there is no reason to wait on Thunderbolt on MacPro - it is redundant.

    You can't:

    2. iPhones do not connect sound output by standard USB.  The connecting device has to be iPhone compatible.

  • ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable

I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Any ideas people?

A cable of about 5 meters (16 ft) can be manufactured to Category 1 specifications easily and inexpensively by using 28 AWG (0.081 mm²) conductors.[114] With better quality construction and materials, including 24 AWG (0.205 mm²) conductors, an HDMI cable can reach lengths of up to 15 meters (49 ft).[114]
    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
You may need a higher-quality cable or a lower resolution for your display to make this work without an HDMI Repeater.

  • "fire wire" video capture cards for mac pro

....Have Power Mac ver. 10.9.5 system Maverick w/ 4 MB RAM & am trying to locate hardware for:
acquiring "FIRE WIRE" video capture cards for mac pro.... ? Any suggestions....?(Just purchased Adobe CS 5 premium)

Your question doesn't make much sense.
What type of Mac Pro do you have? Is it the new black cylinder or the old style silver tower?
Firewire is built-in to the old models & the new Mac Pros can use Thunderbolt to Firewire converters to capture from Firewire sources.
    Maybe like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
Many older cameras used Firewire for capturing, but that has been replaced by other connection types. What are you trying to capture from?

I am using a NVIDA GTX 680 card for Mac and with Premiere CC and I can use the Mercury Engine with Cuda. I am running a Mac Pro 12 Core with OS 10.8.5. When I launched CC 2014 it told me to update the Cuda drivers for my card otherwise Premiere could not access the Cuda drivers. Question I have is does anyone know the driver numbers I need to have and do I have to upgrade to Mavericks to take advantage of the drivers. Once these drivers are installed will it interfere with using Cuda in Premiere CC?
    Thanks

Yes, Premiere Pro CC adds full GPU acceleration certification for the GeForce GTX 680 on Mac.
