Wireless usb tethering

Hi,
I'm currently using a long USB cable for tether shooting.
Is there a workable wireless USB setup for tethering?

You're looking to get fired, aren't you?
Annoying or not, this is an issue you need to take up with your IT department. The restrictions are in place for a reason. I don't think anyone here is going to help you violate them.

  • Is it possible to share Windows XP internet connection to iPhone 4 via USB tethering?

My computer (Windows XP) connects to the internet, and I want to share that connection to my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1). Is it possible to do that via USB tethering? I know that it's possible for iPhone 4 to share its internet connection to others via Personal Hotspot, so can the opposite be done?

You wouldn't be able to do that via USB, however if your computer had the ability to transmit wireless from the computer, you would be able to connect the iPhone to it via wifi. Computers have the ability to do that with the correct equipment.

  • Is USB Tethering possible with the iPad.

Since wireless Tethering isn't secure, I was considering USB Tethering which is. However, is that possible with the iPad?

    Hi
You can share your tablets mobile data connection with other devices via USB, Bluetooth or by turning your table into portable Wifi hotspot.
Note; this function is only supported by 3G models.
In option Wireless & Networks you can configure and manage this setting
You can tap More to find out the hidden options.
The option Tethering & portable hotspot settings would provide the possibility (USB tehthering) to share the data connection.

  • "Network cable unplugged" for iPhone 5 USB Tethering

I've upgraded to Windows 8 64-bit and want to use the iPhone 5 as my main wireless USB dongle and I've had this problem since Windows 7 where, no matter what I do, the Apple Mobile Device Ethernet comes up as "Network cable unplugged".
I've unplugged and plugged it back in, reinstalled iTunes, reset the network settings on the phone, made sure everythings up to date and reset the service in Windows to no avail.
    Any suggestions on this one?

    FIxed my problem!
    Go to System preferences
    Go to Ethernet

  • Any ideas on a cheap 100% airport compatible wireless usb device?

I need to upgrade my wireless to n, and wish to do so with a USB wireless dongle. I tried using one but it was incompatible with airport and resultingly was slow and inefficient, not to mention i couldnt actually connect system wide to my LAN, and cant use ssh and ftp with my other computers D:. I also cant port forward my server :'( because my stupid adapter doesnt have a recognisable static IP . But it gets worse, because when i go online searching for an adapter, every one of them costs around £50 (~$90?) Does anyone know of a suitable good g/n wireless usb adapter that works with airport and doesnt cost a bomb? It really lets the OS down if i cant use the internet.

Please check out this wireless USB adapter offered by Other World Computing.

  • How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps

How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps? I am running FIOS 10/2 and connected to a ActionTec  M1424WR router. Any help will be appreciated.

I have to ask the question, why are you in need of 802.11N speeds?  Are you transferring lots of files between other PC's on your network or are you simply connecting to the Internet.
Remember if your Internet speed is 10/2 which means 10 meg down and 2 meg up having 300 meg capability WLAN connection will not be noticeable.   Your bottleneck is your Internet connection of 10/2.

  • Need mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter TL-WN7200ND

i need Mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter model no TL-WN7200ND

First of all, TP-Link does not provide OS X drivers for that adapter. However, there are other sources that have drivers like this one. It is not official and it may fail, but it has been tested by other users and it works correctly.

  • How do I set Airport Express up to be a wireless USB server??

I was reading on CNET that this was possible with the express and I had been trying to do this with my Airport extreme without any success, im pretty sure the extreme doesnt do it.
    Thanks guys

I wanted to set my airport up to print from work to my home 20 miles away.... my original workaround was going out and purchase a "wireless usb print server". I then ran across info on CNET that states the Express is a wireless USB print server.
    Am I missing something?

  • Data network locked down when usb tethering with a lot of request (i.e. 3 to 4 tab pages and IRC)

Hi, i am currently using the usb tethering on my ubuntu desktop(this also happened in win8 desktop) which the data network will be locked down when open 3 to 4 tab pages in 3-4 seconds or requesting large amount of data traffic (i.e. downloading movie)
This locked down will be recovered only  after a few minutes (4 minutes at least) when there is no more request maked.
    OR reboot the phone again.
This doesn't affect receiving calls, only the data network is locked down
I do see this is a software problem as i have asked for a exchange for phone, the same thing happened again.
Does anyone get the same problem as i experienced?
    The firmware is v.114
    Thanks for help

    Hi z1CUser
based on your information, i believe there is not problem with the phone, since even second phone is doing same thing as first, what I can suggest is
    >check with different phone if possible and see whether it does same, incase 'Yes" then its might be with the internet connection i believe, you can give a call to Internet Service Provider, stating the issue faced in 2 different phones
    >if possible Refresh the Router and try to connect it again
    >Last you can try to restore the phone once

  • How to use iPhone USB tethering / Personal Hotspot without iTunes

I have a corporate laptop so didn't want to install the whole of iTunes to enable USB tethering / Personal Hotspot.
Here's how you can enable USB tethering / Personal Hotspot without installing iTunes.
    1. Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    2. Extract the contents of the downloaded file using winRAR or 7zip. In particular you want the following files:
    For 32 bit systems:
    - AppleApplicationSupport.msi
    - AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi
    For 64 bit systems:
    - AppleApplicationSupport64.msi
    - AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi
Note: If you don't have either winRAR or 7zip you can do the following instead:
Start the iTunes installation, then on reaching the first screen, the required files will be extracted to your machine, perform a search for one of the files above on your C drive whilst the iTunes installation window is open, it should find them in a temp folder somewhere, you can then copy and paste them somewhere and close the iTunes installation.
    3. Before continuing, ensure your iphone is not connected to the computer. Then, install AppleApplicationSupport.msi (or AppleApplicationSupport64.msi for 64 bit machine)
    4. Install AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDevice6464.msi)
    5. Restart your computer
    6. After your computer has restarted, enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone (select USB only option) and plug in your iPhone using the USB cable. Some device drivers will install and then your computer should automatically connect to the iPhone internet connection.

        Hi kveille,
Using the personal hotspot can become tricky as there are three different options available. Based on your details, it sounds like you've been trying the option to connect using WiFi on your computer and iPad. We have the steps needed for iOS 6 to activate and use WiFi so I encourage to use these exact steps to get it to work http://bit.ly/SFLD2b. You will need to check that the MacBook Pro is setup to pick up the network the right way. Check by following http://bit.ly/PJkOWZ. Step 9 demonstrates how to find the network name that you can look for on your computer. Try these steps and keep us posted to the status of the connection.

Linksys has several 802.11n adapters compatible with the AEBSn.

I personally own the first two, and they work perfectly with the AEBSn. All 4 use the same chipset, so I assume that the last two should work also.

  • Wireless USB hook-up need driver??

I have a powermac g4. I have purchased D-Link wireless router on my pc downstairs, I then have the USB card for my mac upstairs, but it is acting like I need a driver for my mac in order to get this wireless usb to work. Apple doesn't supply and/or D-Link wireless company doesn't either. How and where can I get a driver for this usb downloaded from my pc? or a hard copy to load to the power mac????? I'm stuck please help.
    Thank you.

    Vincent,
Everyone else here was so helpful to me, that I thought I'd try a bit to help someone else.
I was in a situation semi-similar to yours many years ago.
In short, you want to be able to use your mac to connect/configure your D-Link wireless router.
If you are using a non-apple device to try to connect to your wireless router, you will most likely need a driver to allow that device to communicate with your OS. When I first started with macs, I was considering the same thing with a Linksys wireless USB.
What I learned was that it really wasn't worth the hassle trying to get your OS talking to the device when what you want is for that device to talk to the router.
I ended up returning my Linksys Wireless USB, and purchasing an Apple Airport Extreme Card for my Powermac G4 MDD, and have never had a problem connecting to various other third party routers (linksys, netgear, d-link, 2wire, belkin, etc.) They all worked great for me, even through several walls or from a downstairs room to an upstairs router.
If possible, you might want to consider returning your D-Link wireless USB and just picking up the Apple Airport Extreme Card somewhere and save yourself the hassle. You shouldn't have any problems connecting to your D-Link Wireless Router that way.
Again, I'm not entirely sure if this is a solution you would consider, but I hope it helps in some way. Good Luck!

  • Wireless USB adapter

I got this USB wirelss adapter,
    Linksys WUSB11
    Wireless USB Network Adapter
Is this Solaris friendly? If not, which brand (wireless PCI/usb cards) I should try here?
    Thanks

    Hello.
Wireless LAN is not widely supported for Solaris.
I've ported a driver for USB WLAN devices using the ZD1211 chip from Linux to Solaris. Currently only devices that additionally use the AL2230 chip are supported (see "zd1211sol" project in SourceForge).
The driver works under OpenSolaris/x86 but it makes a lot of problems under Solaris 9/Sparc. It is not known how it works under Solaris 10 or OpenSolaris/Sparc.
It is a beta driver that still has bugs and it is not supported by Sun.

  • Wireless USB Hub?

Does anyone know if there are any wireless USB hubs available that are supported by Mac OS X? Even working with VMware Fusion would be helpful. I have one of the IOGEAR units but my iMac crashes when I plug the adapter into a USB port.

Well, my computer is already bluetooth enabled so theoretically wouldn't I just need a "receiver" of some kind to plug in to the USB hub?
They seem to be few and far between saxman.
One is shown here, but no details of manufacture are given.
The major issue, I think, for any practical use over bluetooth is speed. BT is very, very, slow.
BT 2.1 with EDR, (the version on your MBP) supports theoretical transfer rates of up to 3 Mbit/s. 802.11n Wireless networking supports theoretical speeds of up to 100 times faster. USB2 supports theoretical rates up to 160 times faster than BT.
People already complain about the slow speed when transferring to USB drives attached to their 802.11n Airport extreme base stations. Can you imagine what it would be like accessing a drive over something 100 times slower! BT just won't cut it for the sorts of purposes you are speaking of.
Using 802.11n makes much more sense, and you can do this with an Airport extreme or Airport Express Base Station, to connect to devices like printers and HDs. You can even attach a hub to them, but they won't support other sorts of USB devices like scanners etc. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2421 for details
    Cheers
