Wireless Virtual Controller and 2504 - supported APs

Hi,
I was working to propose a solution for a small customer where only 10 AP is required.  I have selected 1600 Series.
I checked the supported controller but unfortunately, I could not find a confirmation if virtual or 2504 controllers will support these access points.
It will be expensive to propose 5500 Controller.
I would like to know if 1600 AP is supported in Virtual Controller or in 2504 Controller???

Just to add to Leo's great response:)
Keep this link handy as it will tell you the compatibility for many if not all of the Cisco Wireless

    Hello!!
Please, I'd like to know about Hyper-V 3 Virtual SAN and Linux support. I need to bind some LUNs to a hosted SuSE (or even other distro, I can migrate if needed).
    Thanks a lot.

Unfortunatelly I have to work with my actual SAN.
Do you know which one is faster: access my disk via Virtual HBA or mapped via SCSI on Hyper-V?

  • Virtual Wireless LAN Controller and 1602E: No SSID

Hello, I am trying to troubleshoot a customer's issue remotely.
They have vWLC 7.4, and a 1602E AP, running the 7.4 LWAPP image, successfully joined.
Whatever is tried, the SSID configuration is not pushed to the AP.  Other configuration changes get reflected to the AP such as enabling/disabling ssh.
The goal is for multiple SSIDs connected to various VLANs to be setup, but I have simplified things for now.
So there is an AP group containing this one AP, and a single WPA2-PSK WLAN.  The WLAN is bound to the management interface.
The SSID configuration does not get pushed out to the AP.
Any ideas what I should do to troubleshoot this?  I can't see any obvious issues in the error logs.
    Thanks...

Keep in ming that the vWLC only supports FlexConnect mode AP's not local mode.  Is the mode of the AP in local or FlexConnect?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Cisco 526 Wireless express controller and Guest setup

We are going to implement a small (2-3 APs) wireless network and we wanted gust to have access too. My question is how do we implemetn the guest setup and separate that accessf rom our network. How does the 526 do it. Do we need a separate internet access for guest. Do we need separate vlan? Is it easy to setup using the 526?
    Thank you,
    Gilbert

Thanks for the reply. I did see this before I just cannot understand how creating the guest vlan will segragate the guest connection from our network. I just need more explanation on how the guest connection would not be able to access our data network.

  • 3504 Wireless Lan Controller and WCS

    Hi Pals,
I need to know if any version of Cisco WCS supports 3504 Wireless lan controllers. The latest 3.2.4 doesn't seem to have 3504 listed in its release notes.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • 3702e AP and 2504 wireless controller

    Hey,
If I want to deploy a number of 3702e AP which support 802.11ac am I ok to use the 2504 wireless controller?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

I agree with Rasika's post about the minimum software you'll need, however, you say you want to deploy 3702e.  What is the antenna you're going to be using and how will the antennas be deployed.
Remember that you'll find some distinct limitation when you want to employ 802.11ac nowadays.  Your first quest is to find clients which can FULLY support 802.11ac.  Don't look at the ads.  I mean there are some smartphones and tablets who claim to suppport 802.11ac but if you look closely at the product specifications there is only ONE wireless antenna.
Your next hurdle will be your network.  Understand what bandwidth a single 802.11ac can push thorugh the ethernet cable.  Next multiply that by, say, three (three wireless clients associated to three different APs and all three running 802.11ac).  Now let's say all three APs are connected to ONE switch.

  • Wireless Virtual LAN - SSID and ACS User Mapping

    Hi Everybody
    We have the following senario:
    - WLC 4402 and ACS 3.3
    - 2 SSID's , One for Emploies - one for gests
    - All users are (guest and emploies) are authentication against the ACS Server.
We would like to only permit Guest users to use the Guest SSID.
I've been reading the Wireless Virtual LAN Deployment Guide :
    http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/witc/ao1200ap/prodlit/wvlan_an.pdf
and have tried to use methode 1.
    - RADIUS-based SSID access control:
"Upon successful 802.1X or MAC address authentication, the RADIUS server
passes back the allowed SSID list for the WLAN user to the access point or bridge. If the user used an SSID on the allowed SSID list, then the user is allowed to associate to the WLAN. Otherwise, the user is disassociated from the access point or bridge."
"This is configured by enableling the ?[026/009/001] cisco-av-pair? option. On the ACS Server
    - Enable and configure Cisco IOS/PIX RADIUS Attribute,
    009\001 cisco-av-pair
    - Example: ssid=LEAP_WEP"
I've tried this, but regardless of wich SSID the user(-group) has configured, it sill can access all SSID's?
Does anyone have any idea of what I'm doing wrong?
Does this setting only apply to Accesspoint, or is it also valid for the WLC 44xx series?
    Greetings
    Jarle

Hi I'm sorry but this still does not help.
We have now upgraded ACS to version 4.0 and I'm still having the same problems.
This is what i have configured:
    WLC:
    - WLAN
    - SSID : Public
    - WLAN id = 3
    - L2 Security : 802.1x
    - Interface Name : GuestVLAN
    - Controller - Interface
    - management - Untagged
    - GuestVLAN - VLAN 112
    - Security
    - RADIUS Servers
When authenticating a Guest(belonging to the proper group in acs) - the right VLAN is used, IP Adresses from DHCP is recieved, and the Guest can access internet.
    Switch:
    - Port connected to WLC uses Trunking.
    - Guests are connected to VLAN 112 and "native VLAN" is used to connect the Private Users.
    ACS:
    - AAA Client is the WLC, Authenticating using Cisco Airespace
    - Guest Users are member of Group 11
    - Private Users are member of Group 1
    Group 11
    - Use Per Group NAR to only allow WLAN Access
    - Cisco Airespace RADIUS Attributes
    x 14179\001 - Aire-WLAN-ID = 3
    - Cisco IOS / PIX RADIUS Attributes
    x 009\001 Ciso-av-pair = "ssid=Public"
    - IETF Radius Attributes
    x 006 Service Type = Login
    x 007 Framed-Prot = ppp
    x 064 Tunnel-Type = VLAN
    x 065 Tunnel-Medium-tye = 802.1x
    x 081 Tunnel-Private-Group-ID = 112
    Group (default Group)
    - Cisco Airespace RADIUS
    x 14179\001 Aire-WLAN-ID = 1
    - Cisco IOS/PIX Radius Attrib
    x 009\001 Cisco-av-pair = "ssid=Private"
    - IETF RADIUS

    x 064 Tunnel-Type = VLAN
    x 065 Tunnel-Medium-tye = 802.1x
    x 081 Tunnel-Private-Group-ID = 1
Do you have any idea of what i should change?

  • Support for Appletalk on the 526 controller (and others to)

I have noticed that from version 4.2x the controller does not seem to pass appletalk traffic through to the wireless clients.
I started to look around for some information but there are quite few resources for the 526. So i started to read the release notes and read the release notes for the 2100 controller and noticed that it doesn't support appletalk at all.
My question is simple, is it common for cisco's wireless products to not support appletalk? Is this maybe an step on the roadmap to get rid of appletalk completely =)

Appletalk bridging is supported in 4400, WiSM, or 3750G. If you insist to use 526, you need to configure HREAP on the AP and HREAP local switching for the WLAN.

  • Wireless controller and Acess points

    Hi
which protocal is used between wlc and acess point. and what is  CAPWAP.

which protocal is used between wlc and acess point.
It used to be called LWAPP but now it's called CAPWAP.
    Access Point Communication Protocols
In controller software release 5.2 or later, Cisco lightweight access points use the IETF standard Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points protocol (CAPWAP) to communicate between the controller and other lightweight access points on the network. Controller software releases prior to 5.2 use the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) for these communications.
CAPWAP, which is based on LWAPP, is a standard, interoperable protocol that enables a controller to manage a collection of wireless access points. CAPWAP is being implemented in controller software release 5.2 for these reasons:
•To provide an upgrade path from Cisco products that use LWAPP to next-generation Cisco products that use CAPWAP
•To manage RFID readers and similar devices
•To enable controllers to interoperate with third-party access points in the future
LWAPP-enabled access points can discover and join a CAPWAP controller, and conversion to a CAPWAP controller is seamless. For example, the controller discovery process and the firmware downloading process when using CAPWAP are the same as when using LWAPP. The one exception is for Layer 2 deployments, which are not supported by CAPWAP.
You can deploy CAPWAP controllers and LWAPP controllers on the same network. The CAPWAP-enabled software allows access points to join either a controller running CAPWAP or LWAPP. The only exception is the Cisco Aironet 1140 Series Access Point, which supports only CAPWAP and therefore joins only controllers running CAPWAP. For example, an 1130 series access point can join a controller running either CAPWAP or LWAPP whereas an 1140 series access point can join only a controller running CAPWAP.

  • Help with wireless controller and VLANs

Hi I'm trying to setup a wireless controller in preparation for a large site go live later this year. I'm struggling to get the controller and the WLAN using the correct VLAN. I want the controller on VLAN 100 and the clients on the WLAN on VLAN 200.
My thought is that I would need a config similar to:
Switchport for wireless controller management port set to trunk VLAN 100 and 200 with no native VLAN set.
The management interface on the controller set to VLAN 100.
A dynamic interface created on VLAN 200.
When setup like this I can get to the controller on its management address but only from VLAN100 not from another VLAN on site or from other sites over the WAN.
I have setup a WLAN which is set to use the dynamic interface on VLAN 200.
I have set the AP to use HREAP and set the native VLAN as 200 and added the dynamic interface into the VLAN mappings
When I connecting a client to the WLAN I get an address on VLAN 100.
The switchport for the AP is set to native VLAN 100 and trunk 200 – this setup works for standalone APs at other sites.
    What am I missing?
Also any idea why the management interface address is not routing? The netmask and gateway are set correctly.
    Thanks
    Paul

Just to add to Steve's post... You only need to create a dynamic interface for vlan 200 if you have ap's also in local mode.  If your ap's are in H-REAP/FlexConnect mode, you don't need a dynamic interface for vlan 200.
In you H-REAP/FlexConnect ap, you would set the wlan to vlan mapping there and the switchport configuration would be a trunk allowing vlan 100 (im assuming your native vlan for your ap) and vlan 200.  You should see something like the following:

  • Minimum connection speeds 5508 controller and 2602E APs

We have an applicaiton that is sensitive to network speeds.  Is there a way to guarantee a minimum wireless network speed such as 100 MBs utilizing a 5508 controller and 2602e APs?

We have an applicaiton that is sensitive to network speeds.  Is there a way to guarantee a minimum wireless network speed such as 100 MBs utilizing a 5508 controller and 2602e APs?
Not easy.   Wireless is a shared medium.  This means if one client talks, everyone else has to stop and wait for their turn.
It's like doing video.  Video is time-sensitive.  If you put a single AP in a room (granted you've got full 1Gbps ethernet access all the way), and you get 25 people continuously streaming videos, then you'll see some impact.  Bring the number down to say, 8 to 10 and you'll see improvements.
What kind of application are we talking about here?

  • Problems between a Wireless Controller and a Switch.

I have a Wireless Controller 4402 connected to one sw2960G.
I configured the controller with LAG and the switch (sw2960G) with etherchanel.
I connected the controller 2 distribution ports to the 2 ports of the switch (configured with etherchanel).
It worked like it should work.
But the problem is like this: if I take one cable that is connected to the switch and unplugged that cable from the switch (if that cable is the one connected to controllers port one) I have connectivity between both machines.
If I plug in the switch the cable connected to controller port one and take the other cable and unplugged that cable from the switch I stop the connectivity between the two machines.
I think that was not supposed to happen… because the LAG in the controller should put every AP in the second controller's port, and the connectivity between the machines should not end.
    Can any one help me?
Can any one tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rui

With LAG enabled in the controller I think I can have only one ap-manager interface.
The LAG will (it is supposed to) do the load balance automatically.
I mean, if one of the interfaces is “down” the other will have to coupe with all the AP's.
I should have always connection between the controller and the switch.
The STP of the controller is configured by default (STP Mode = OFF).
In the case of etherchannel load balance… I saw the Cisco documentation and I did not saw any thing about that. I think that The LAG as to do that for the controller… I'm right about that?
I will see the link that you advised…
    Can you help me?
    Thanks,
    Rui

  • Enterprise Wireless Mesh License needed for controller and AP's?

If I have a 2112 WLAN Controller and 7 1240AG AP's what licensing do I need to purchase to enable enterprise wireless mesh? Do I need to get the license for the controller (AIR-AP-LIC-M-12)? A license for each AP? Both? Thanks for any replies!

    Hi Andy,
You only require the Mesh license for the Controller not for the individual AP's :)
    Solution
The Cisco EWM license is required for wireless mesh deployments for the indoor access point platforms, including the Cisco Aironet 1130 and 1240 Series. For the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series, these licenses are not required. These EWM licenses are required for all the WLAN controllers when mesh indoor acess points are associated with the controller. Each WLAN controller has a corresponding EWM license. The license entitles the user to configure as many mesh indoor access points as the controller allows.
The license SKUs are as follows:
    • AIR-AP-LIC-RTU=, Cisco Advanced Feature License
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-6, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 6-AP Controller
    • ***AIR-AP-LIC-M-12, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 12-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-25, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 25-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-50, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 50-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-100, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 100-AP Controller
    • AIR-AP-LIC-M-300, Cisco Advanced Enterprise Wireless Mesh, 300-AP Controller

  • Wireless sensor networks and virtual lab

    Hi all
i am a new to wireless and virtual lab . i would like to build a virtual lab in wireless sensor networks where in all the configurations .. ie hardware conf would be done and across the internet i can shd be accessing the virtual lab and performing operations like . on / off of sensors .. etc
can any one let me know the steps in which the same can be performed

    Hello ayaym,
That is a pretty broad description.  You may need to narrow down your questions to be more specific.
It seems like you are doing 2 things.  One is create a wireless network.  Two is access that network over the internet.
    1.  Wireless, there are numerous commercial wireless technologies.  Wireless ethernet, Wi-Fi, proprietary protocol wireless boxes.  Zigbee, wireless HART, bluetooth.  Etc.......  What makes the most sense would be determined by how these sensors would be connected in a wired world.  Then look at the common factors and whether you can adapt all the devices to a common wireless system.  For instance, if it's ethernet, you could add in wireless ethernet routers.  If it is RS-485 or RS-232 serial protocol, they also make ethernet boxes that would turn these into to remote virtual ports.
    2.  Internet connectivity.  Labview has remote panels and web publishing that would allow remote access to the front panels of running VI's.  It is just a matter of allowing those communications to occur in a secure way.  A Virtual Private Network might be required.  Other remote desktop software tools could work.
