Wireless VoIP roaming - getting an 802.11g phone to roam with CCX / CCKM

Hello,
Our group is facing a pretty difficult issue at the moment, we are trying to deploy a wireless Avaya VoIP phone at one of our sites in Australia.
The site in question is located in Western Australia, which is on the other side of the continent to where our 5508 WLC is (in Sydney), so there is a latency of abouy 60-80ms between the sites. When testing the phone at the Sydney location, we're able to authenticate the phone via a number of methods (802.11x, 802.11x FT) and the phone can roam fine. When testing at the WA location, the 802.11x authentication method drops the call when roaming, and the 802.11x FT authentication method has about 2 seconds of dead air during roaming / reassociation.
The avaya phone supports a few different methods of "fast handoff" - CCKM and OKC - and we've only got the OKC (802.11 version of fast transition) method to work, not CCKM. The phone reports error messages when trying to connect to the network with CCKM enabled - specifically "No CCKM AP's" and "No CCX AP's".
So I have some questions...
1) Is a 60ms latency between sites a dealbreaker for wireless voice usually?
2) The voice engineer is convinced that CCX is disabled on the WLAN. My understanding of CCX (according to online Cisco docco) is that it can't be switched off. Is this the case? I know CCKM can be disabled (in the Layer 2 Authentication options) but can CCX or CCKM be enabled / disabled anywhere else?
3) The voice engineer has a point on one front - if we do a command "show ap ccx rm [APName] status", the command outputs "Beacon Request ..... Disabled." This seems to be related to CCX Location awareness - but even after switching this on in the WLC (both globally and for the WLAN), I cannot get this to enable.
3) We have had some minimal success getting the phone to connect with only CCKM Authentication enabled. The phone could not roam. When we did this, I looked at the Client information in the WLC of this device and the CCX Version read "Not Supported." Does this perhaps mean some kind of CCX compatibility problem?
4) Is there much of a difference between OKC (Fast Transition) and CCKM in terms of roaming time? I.e. are we better off trying to install a WLC at the location rather than getting this work remotely.
We're a bit lost on this. Anyone that's had experience in getting Wireless VoIP phones to roam on a wireless campus before, particularly where the WLC is remote, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi, thanks Steve. Aironet IE is enabled.
The encryption is news to me. We intially tried WPA2/AES & WPA/TKIP together but had no success at all. We then moved to WPA/TKIP, and we were able to get the phone to connect to the WLAN using the CCKM settings, but it doesn't roam at all & the WLC reported the Clients CCX version was "Not Supported".
I think the phone has CCX version 4. Are you certain that the phone will only support WPA & WPA2 with CCX v5? Just that this sounds a little strange, the phone's documentation claims to support CCKM, but if you're right then there's no way we can secure our phone conversations? In previous testing, we did actually temporarily drop all authentication / encryption and the roaming worked perfectly.
Thanks for your help...

  • Why can't I get my LG CG300 phone to pair with my Mac?

I cannot get my LG CG300 phone to pair with my Mac. Both of the devices are supposed to be bluetooth equipped in such a way as to allow me to do this, though no go. My computer (in attempting to set the phone up as a new device) gets as far as recognizing my phone, getting "additional information" on it, but then the computer can get no further, saying it is unable to pair with the thing. When I try to add my computer as a new device in the phone's bluetooth menu, the phone begins searching for it, though never finds anything. Nobody seems to have reported such occurences with this model before, unless I am just the first to mention it.
Somebody please advise as soon as possible!

You're not alone in this situation. I also have a PowerBook G4 (1GHz, 17") and I have the exact same problem with my Nokia N80. In my case, both devices see eachother. However, they fail to get the other to ask for the pairing code. I tried with my girlfriend's new MacBook and it worked flawlessly. I suspect this is an incompatibility of some sort with PowerBook that have Bluetooth 1.1 instead of 2.0. Sorry, I've got no solution for you...

  • Airport 802.11g and WIFI issues with Apple bluetooth keyboard

Hey guys, this thing start to drive me crazy, I bought a Apple BT keyboard but just recently I started to having problems with my wifi connection and apparently I think this is due to the BT keys.
I started to notice this issue when I moving with the laptop in another room where usually I had maximum Airport signal, now it's happening that the signal start to lose power and when is just to the minimum, internet or other net staff don't work anymore and after 5 minutes of this apparently "freeze" wifi status, the airport loose definitely the signal.
After that I need to turn off the Airport card, most of the time work but sometimes i need to turn off two times to get it works.
After I read different blogs and forum, I tried to change channel, use the interference robustness, anything, and at the ending I reinstalled Leo, still have this problem, so I started to turn off the bluetooth connection and it look's like when the signal start to lose power the network keep working, and than reprise the maximum power.
So I can really fix this issue or is another "well done" by Apple? It look's like the Apple industry getting so close to the trash world! I'm sorry for these last words but my disappointed in Apple getting bigger.
    Thank you for anyone helps.
P.S. a friend of mine with a Macbook Pro, Snow Leopard and my same Airport Base station have the same issue.

GuyI just fixed for now the problem turning off the bluetooth keyboard when I have wifi issues, it's the only solutions!

  • Satellite Pro M10 Model PS630E. Connecting via 802.11G

This laptop has a 1.5 Gb Centrino Processor,is there any way to upgrade the wireless so it can detect 802.11g wireless routers as it seems only to see 802.11b. Is there a driver update or more up to date firmware.

    Hi
I think the easiest solution would be a usage of external USB WLan stick which would support the WLan 802.11 G standard.
The USB WLan stick is easy to use, cheap and you dont need to disassemble the notebook in order to upgrade the WLan card.
Visit some online dealersIm sure you will get nice one for some bugs

  • How's playback from external hard drives and 802.11g?

I'm thinking about putting my movies on an external Firewire hard drive connected to my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo.
Does it make a difference in playback jumpiness if any with:
    1. The movies on an external Firewire hard drive connected to my Mac?
    2. The movies on an external USB 2 hard drive connected to my Mac?
    3. 802.11g shared network with one other computer and internet connection.
    4. 802.11g adhoc network and second 802.11g network for internet on other machines in the neighborhood?
    5. 802.11n adhoc network with 802.11n upgraded machine and a second 802.11g network for internet with other machines in the neighborhood?
    6. Must the video play on the AppleTV hard drive to stream to the TV, or can video that is not on the AppleTV be played back?
    7. Unrelated question, but do TV shows show menus which are alphabetical with submenus which are also alphabetical?
Please only people who have already received their AppleTV let me know what you find.

what if I want all my movies and shows and music served from my HD but my photos to reside on the ATV...is that possible!?It is what I am doing. Basically, I simply set the main iTunes host to sync all music (115 files) and all photos (928), but nothing else. When I want to look at the photos (with music), I merely switch to the "TV" (sync) mode. When I want to stream any of the movies, TV Shows, and/or Podcasts, I just switch to the Named Music Library (streaming) mode for the same iTunes host.

  • I have a new MBRP. On wired ethernet it can be used as a wireless hotspot. Since 802.11ac gets better range I'd like to use it with 802.11ac as a hotspot for my older 802.11g/ndevices. Can I do that ?

I know that if I use wired ethernet then the  MBRP can be a wirelss hotspot for other devices. Since the MBRP supports 802.11ac and I have a new 802.11ac wireless router it gets much better range than my older 802.11/n devices.  There are places in teh house where the MBRP connects to the wireless but where older 802.11g/n devices lare out of range. In those rooms I'd like to use my MBRP connected to the network wirelessly using 802.11ac as a hotspot for the nearby 802.11 g/n devices. Anyone know if that can be done and how to do it ?

Turn on Internet Sharing in Sharing preferences. Share the Ethernet connection to wireless.

  • Slow wireless speed with new iMac Intel- problem with 802.11g?

There IS a problem with the new Intel Mac, I have tried both the Intel iMac and the new Intel Mac mini and they both have the same problem with slow wireless speed (or rather it variates, if I do a ping to another computer on the network the speed goes from < 1 ms up to 1000 ms and then down to < 1 ms and so on). The older mac minis, my Linux boxes and my Windows PCs don´t have that problem. I have also read reports on the net and it appears that most users experiencing this problem have wireless card firmware version 101.3 (3.120.28.3) . A possible "fix" is to change to 802.11b on the router and then it works. No speed fluctuations and a stabile network! I know it is a bad solution, I would prefer to use 802.11g and get the speed. However I think this points to a problem with the drivers regarding 802.11g. I am starting up a new thread on this and those of you with problems, please try to switch to 802.11b and if it works let us make Apple aware of this.

  • SPA525G2 - Wireless range of 802.11g?

    Hi All
Have a teleworker with a SPA525G2 that is connected wirelessly with SSL-VPN that is experiencing choppy voice calls.  The phone has 2 or 3 bars of signal out of 4 when the choppy voice is experienced.
We determined that the computers are connecting over 802.11n and they operate fine, but since the phone only supports 802.11g the signal isn't as reliable (Phone works fine if you are very close to the WAP).
Changing to G729 codec didn't make any difference.   Any suggestions?  We are considering trying a Wireless-N Bridge WBPN but that sort of defeats the all-in-one benefit of the SPA525G2.   Also find it odd that the voice quality would suffer on 2-3 wireless bars so I'm wondering if others have experienced this.
    Thanks for any ideas!

Thanks so much for your helpful information.
Yes WMM is enabled and firmware is at 7.5.3.   Also tried a different AP.  Was unaware of the DTLS option but have since enabled it.
There were no improvements in quality with the above, but after purchasing a WBPN 802.11n adapter, call quality has greatly improved and is about 99% perfect.   It's unfortunate 802.11n is not included in the phone, but the adapter is nice in that it can be hidden inside the footstand of the phone.

  • Deskjet 460 802.11g wireless setup on Win7

    {Personal Information Removed}
There has to be someone in HP who can explain clearly how to set up a Deskjet 460 with 802.11g card in "infrastructure" mode on a router, using Win7. Surely!
The 460 was not fully supported on Win7, but Win7 has a driver which works with a USB cable. The challenge is how you get an infrastructure network profile into the 802.11g card when the tools on the Starter CD are XP-only - actually, even if they were to work on Win7, they have disappeared from the HP website, so you cannot download them.
Looking at a previous thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Issues-with-DeskJet-460-WiFi-and-Windo...), lots of folks are as frustrated as I am, but nobody has so far answered the key question.
Before dumping XP I created a network profile on a USB stick, using the Starter CD - this was an xml file in a folder named SMRTNTKY. It was supposed to allow me to replicate the settings on other printers (or on mine if I lost the settings). Now, it is not recognised by the printer, but I have no idea why. I have cleared the profile, inserted the USB stick, powered off and on, with no change - the printout still shows the network profile as ad hoc / hpsetup.
I and others need a clearly documented process for creating an infrastructure network profile and for getting it into the printer, so we can use the device with Win7. If this needs software, we need that software to be available for download from the HP website, ideally via links from the reply (since the website is a bit of a mess to navigate. Please help.

    Hi,
Assuming you have WiFi connectivity on your laptop, try setting a temporary ad hoc connection and then use the EWS to connect the printer to your router as a workaround, such a software is not available for Windows 7:
Follow these steps to install the product on the network with the Windows 7 printer driver.
    Turn the product on.
Insert the wireless printer card into the printer.
Reset the wireless network settings on the product:
Reset all of the 802.11 wireless profiles: Press and hold the Power button ( ), press the Cancel ( ) button two times, and then press the Resume button ( ) eight times. Release all buttons.
Click the Wireless icon on your system traym then connect to the HPSETUP netowrk.
Wait two minutes for the printer to obtain an IP Address, and then print a wireless configuration page:
Make sure the product is on and idle.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints.
Locate the IP address / URL printed on this page, type it into your web browser to access its EWS page.
Open the Network / Wireless tab, click the Wireless option or the Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the steps  to connect the pritner to your router.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints. note the listed IP.
Right click the USB printer icon within Devices and printers, select Printer Properties. Within the Ports tab create a new Standard TCP/IP port and type the listed IP for this port.
Hope that help, I cannot guide you further within the EWS as I do not have the exact device but you should locate it within the networking area of the EWS

  • Will 2800-400 BIOS update enable 802.11g wireless LAN?

I recently bought a Belkin 54G cardbus wireless adapter for use with my Satellite 2800-400, which has a Windows ME OS.
The setup software wouldn't install a driver, even though ME was said to be supported.
I wrote to Belkin and they told me that it was because the laptop BIOS didn't support 802.11g wireless and that I should update the BIOS. I updated to BIOS version 2 but it didn't make any difference.
I don't know if Belkin's instructions were on the right track or whether they were they just pushing the responsibility as far away from themselves as they could.
Please can anyone tell me if my laptop does support 802.11g wireless, with or without the BIOS upgrade?
    TIA
    Mike

Thanks for the reply. the notebook does support wireless LAN because I can get a 802.11b card to function OK.

Well it's done now so there may be other benefits. Not 802.11g wireless though it seems.

  • Upgrade Portege A100 Wireless to 802.11g??

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the internal wireless chip in a Portege A100 to support 802.11g??
    Cheers

    Hi again
This must be some series produced just for UK. The best way to find out is to visit http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com site. Under Products > Options and Accessories > Wireless communication you can find Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card - 802.11b/g (PA3300U-1MPC). This one should be compatible with Protg A100 P-M.
With a few mouse clicks you can find the answer alone. ;)

  • Wireless 802.11g Router Displaying Two Channels??

I downloaded iStumbler tonight to monitor my wireless setup, primarily to make sure I wasn't clashing with channels on other nearby networks, and surprisingly my router is broadcasting TWO channels (although it wasn't earlier in the day). On Channel 6 as is its defaults but also Channel 0??
Unsurprisingly, my iMac can't maintain a wireless connection.
Any ideas? I'm going to power cycle the router but this seems very odd...??
I have a screen Grab of the iStumbler window that I can send to anyone who's interested in helping out here...
    Cheers
    Luke

Does no one have any comments or queries?
I thought I'd expand on this cause I am wondering whether it has anything to do with the problems of connectivity that a lot of people have been suffering with recently.
While monitoring the network and while my iMac is connected I see my network broadcasting on Channel 6.
But during the evening I lost connectivity, and the two times this happened, the iMac / iStumbler via the Airport card was picking up a second channel on the network. This channel was showing these statistics:
    Channel: 0
    MAC Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00-0
    Vendor: Xerox
    Freq: -1
I called the modem/router support line as, the one reason I bought this modem/router was that they had good support for Apple Macs: they were bemused and had not seen it before, their only suggestion being that the new 802.11n wireless spec will use TWO channels to boost network performance, therefore could it be the drivers / airport card trying to search for a second channel that's knocking out the connectivity?
They were a bit worries that it might be their wireless router in which case they've offered a refund / exchange but I'm going to try getting a friend round with an older Mac and iStumbler installed to see if he can view this miscellaneous channel as well...
Any thoughts or views would be welcome, I'm not expert on wireless technology nor macs, but do think this is very odd.
