Wireless Web Cam

A dilema!!! I have a wireless network using a d-link router. 20 feet out back I have a garage...I want to add a webcam for security. I seem to have a number of choices...
1)Wireless camera...can't seem to find one that mentions 'Mac' in the specs?
2)Ethernet camaera...would have to bury a cable underground...hate using shovels but can if necessary.
3)USB camera with a long buried (see above) USB cord! (can USB cords/cameras have that long a connection?)
The last choice (USB) I assume would be the easiest to hook up...assume the computer will just 'see' it without any set up hassle?
The first two (if any wireless cameras for Macs are available) would have to be 'found' by the computer...can imagine the number of calls to 'help lines' that might involve?
Would like to keep it wireless and was looking today at a Lorex mcam 3151...any other suggestions????

  • Airport base Station and Wireless Web cams

I just tried to take a free CNET online course that purported to show me, step by step, how to set up a wireless Web cam with an Internet connection. Yea, right. I found that it was totally geared to PC users and almost no information was provided for us. Even the suggested hardware manufacturers (Linksys) said they didn't support Macs.
I have Airport card and base station and need to set up 2-3 outdoor security cams around a home in a remote location. Can anyone advise me along these lines?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you considered using Security Spy? http://www.securityspy.com/
They claim to support many wireless cameras....but it doesn't appear Linksys is one of them. Linksys historically doest not provide any Mac support, and I have personally learned to no longer support companies that don't provide some type of Mac support. (I've been a fan of Linksys historically, untill recently)
I hope Security spy works for you - let us know how it works out.

  • Wireless Web Cam Not on Internet

I can access my URL from home PC's but not from work. I have setup user accounts for ohters and they can't access either. It worked fine at first. I tried to to uninstall / reinstall but that didn't help.
Any help would be appeciated. I have wasted hours trying to fix this,,,,,, ahhhhh!

    Dear eerf,
Most likely, I am in the same boat as you are. And there seem to be quite a few posts here with variations on the same theme.
More details on what you have seen might help us all. For instance, if you view your camera thru a browser (from a home pc obviously) and click on the link "Home", you should see a bunch of info on your camera. One piece is "Remote IP". What is it's
If it is "0.0.0.0" well, it just won't work. And I could discover no method to make this appear as the ip address of my internet router, like it did when it was first installed. Since you said it did work once, I bet it showed your outside ip address here just fine, at first.
Not sure if you rebooted your cable or dsl router, but when I had to reboot mine, I of course got a new ip address (which happens pretty much all the time with comcast) and then nothing would work again, in spite of trying to resetup the camera.
I tried to set the wan address manually (that's wan, not lan) that didn't help. So I set it back to auto. The "Remote IP" field is still zeros.
Then I tried the setup wizard - just to run the reconnect part, not the whole thing - that didn't work. I tried changing the port for the web view from 80 to 8080 (an alternate port number that I already know is open at the office), changed it back when it didn't work. I tried not only setting the camera in the dmz on my internet router, but also setup port forwarding to forward any connections for port 80 to the camera. Still no luck.
I have not (yet) tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling it (but I will eventually).
There do seem to be occassional routing and/or port filtering issues with comcast connections every now and then. I have had the lovely experience of having to PROVE to comcast that they were filtering/blocking my IKE packets once before - a painful experience.
Also intend to try setting up a separate service (ssh or telnet) to connect to from outside, to my home net, to really make sure that part of the connectivity is working. (ICMP to the router doesn't sem to work.)
It may be a while, but I hope to follow up with more on success or failure of more research.
It would be helpful if you could share a little more of what you tried or noticed. Just in case one us inspires the other to a solution!
    cathy

  • Virtual Web Camera with JMF

    Hi
I have tried to use virtual web camera with Java Media Framework.
And what I wanted to point out why these are important is:
We can use them as wireless web cameras and use with Java Media Framework
    Here we need two softwares
    1. softwares available to use our mobile phones as a wireless web cameras. ex- http://www.motvik.com/
    2. Softwares which acting as virtual web camera (comes with Windows Driver Model(WDM) driver)
Once we installed both and completed the rest of the configuration. 1st software acting as a wireless web camera and the 2nd software detects the first software as a web camera. The important thing is it acting as a virtual web camera driver. Some of them even provide SDKs.
So as they claim their provides WDM driver and supports all the VFW and DirectShow applications,([here is a one|http://www.e2esoft.cn/vcam/]) they must detect as capturing device by the JMF registry.
    But it is not.
Can anyone please put some attention on this? Can any one please put some light?
If I am wrong please correct me.
    Thank You

    Hi captfoss thanx for answering.
Actually my web camera(real one) is detected by JMF registry as vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32) : 0
So as u said if it is not a must to detect the all the cameras I have to find the hardware ID of the virtual web cam driver. It is better to ask it from original developers. Also I am interesting to develop windows virtual web cam driver, So we have full access.
So any body has tried this kind of application?

  • Can I use my iPhone or iPad as a web cam for my PC via the USB connection?

I've seen quite a few Apps for doing this wireless, most of which a very poorly executed OR don't work at all. I'm just wondering why it hasn't been more popular to do this via the USB connectivity.

Thanks Lawrence but the point is, I already own the $600 dollar device (given as a gift) and secondly because to purchase a web cam that has the same quality as the iPhone is actually just a bit more than $10 and I'm not really desirous to spend anymore money based on my budget.  Any ideas of whether or not it can actually be done via USB OR do you have experience with an actual App that works via wireless to a PC?  Thanks again...

  • Mozilla won't display web cam feed from web site

Mozilla won't display web cam feed from web site: http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c4/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gDfxMDT8MwRydLA1cj72DTUE8TAwjQL8h2VAQAMtzFUw!!/?ss=110803&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=fsm9_029107&navid=091000000000000&pnavid=null&position=Not%2520Yet%2520Determined.Html&ttype=detailfull&pname=Chattahoochee-Oconee%2520National%2520Forest-%2520Home
I have the latest Java software and can load the above feed in IE but not Mozilla. I can also load a similar Java feed from
http://www.brmemc.net/brasstown/ in both IE and Mozilla.

(Glad to see you're still lurking around here, Wyrenut.  Your posts have helped me tremendously.  And this comes form somebody who has run and internal developer's support group for quite a few years.)
I also started having this problem after getting my TX hooked up through my home network.  I had to set up a wireless access point with only WPA security to get around having to change the WPA2 security on all my other equipment.  I applied the ESU upgrade, but that didn't seem to help with WPA2 Personal.  Previously, I could get at least half of the pages to come up through the open hotspot in the lobby of our building at work, but I haven't tried that since I applied the ESU upgrade this morning.
I can get to the internet through the access point using a laptop, and I can see the IP address of the Palm coming through the access point on the router's admin page, and the DNS addresses of the PC and the Palm are the same.  So I think I'm through, but every page I try gets the 'Page not available' message, even if I enter the IP address of the page rather than the URL.
Is there any other method of debugging available to see if the page is really coming back and locking up Blazer, or whether it's really not coming back at all?  Or any other suggestions?
Personally, I sort of liked the old Internet Explorer that counted off how many K were coming through as the page was being loaded.  At least you could tell something was happening.
    Thanks,

  • Can I use my IPad to monitor 2 web cams in my children's rooms? How, and what do I need?

How can I use my IPad to monitor 2 web cams wirelessly in my children's rooms?

Search for webcam apps in the app store.  Most work only with specific cameras.  Check the manufacturer of yours and see if they offer an iOS app.

  • Wireless Network Camera

Hi there, i'm in need of some help.
I need to set up a wireless network camera for some home security.
I've been recommended some software called Security Spy, i just need a cost effective indoor camera which is pointing outside through he window. Ideally it needs to have motion detection, but to be honest I really don't know that much about them and I'm getting desperate. Can anyone point me in the right direction of someone who sells Mac network compatible cameras please, any help or advice will be massively appreciated thank you all.

    evocam isn't bad...
it uses your inbult isight cam or a web cam
you can set up either static shots or constant video feed over http:// or even ftp
otherwise there are lots of IT/electronic companies that sell basic IP cameras ~AU$200 pretty easy to set up and often come with software based motion detection

  • Trouble setting up a wireless IP camera

I have a Foscam wireless IP camera that I got working easily. I just bought a new GOING model IP camera and am having problems. My AirPort network's IP is 10.0.1.1. When I got the Foscan, I just ran IP Camera Tool and the cam showed right up. From there it was easy to set up. Now this new cam does not show up. I emailed them and they said the default IP for the cam is 192.168.1.10, They told me to add a 192.168.1.x address to my Mac. How can I do that? I see you can change DHCP range in Network options, but won't everything on my network stop working? My Foscam cam is on 10.0.1.4. The web server running on my Mac is at 10.0.1.5 and my Apple TV is at 10.0.1.13. What options do I have here?

Make sure the correct encryption mode is supported. Many times people confuse the different encryption types. Best bet is to not have any encryption set on your router and see if that works first.

  • Foscam wireless ip camera

I have a Foscam FI8918 wireless ip camera. I have a new airport extreme base station. The camera was previously set up on a linksys router and I had dyndns host a static ip so I could access the camera from the internet. Since installing the new Airpprt extreme I have been unable to set this camera up. Please give me instructions on how to do this exclusively with my iMac. I have the ip camera tool on my iMac and can see the camera when plugged into the Airport extreme via ethernet cable. I am, however, unable to see the camera via wifi after following the instructions. I did spend around 5hrs setting this camera up with a pc running windows xp and the linksys router. The airport utility and airport extreme are just a bit different and I am just learning how to use them. Any hel would be greatly appreciated.

Note: I am assuming that your wireless camera is accessible via a web browser on the local network.
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
    Select Manual Setup.
Verify that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address is selected on the Internet > Internet Connection tab.
Select Advanced, and then, select the Port Mapping tab.
Click the plus sign to add a new port mapping.
For Service, leave the default; this will change to "Custom" once you start entering port values.
In the Public UDP Port(s) and Public TCP Port(s) boxes, type in a 4-digit port number (e.g., 8888) that you choose. In the Private IP Address box, type the internal IP address of your camera. In the Private UDP Port(s) and Private TCP Port(s) boxes, enter the appropriate port values that should have been provided to you by the camera manufacturer. Click Continue.
In the Description box, type a descriptive name like "Internet Camera Access," and then, click Done.
    Click on Update.
To connect to the shared Camera from a remote location using a Mac or PC:
    Start your favorite web browser.
Enter the dyndns-provided Domain Name, followed by a colon and the Public port number that you choose in step 7 of the previous procedure. For example: http://www.mydyndnsdomainname.com:8888

  • Wireless surveillance camera for 350mHz G4

I am looking for a wireless surveillance camera to monitor my home using my old G4. Are there any Mac solutions out there? It seems like the good cameras are only PC compatible.

I don't see why the platform should make a difference if the camera is wireless. If you can use a USB camera, any that support the USB Video Device Class will work without special drivers on a Macintosh. The Logitech QuickCam Pro supports the USB Video Device Class specification.
Panasonic has a wireless camera with a web server built-in, so you don't need the computer at all to use it. I have the older wired model, which allows you to zoom, pan, and elevate from the web interface. Although a lot of sites list them as "for PC", it's a web based interface and has no Windows-specific features.

  • Which Web Cam To Buy?

I am ready to purchase a webcam, but am not sure which one to buy. Here's my situation. I have a utility building attached to my house that our dogs use. I would like to put a web cam in that small utility building and point it down towards the floor so I can see my dogs. This room can get dusty from the dogs. I do have one 20V power outlet. I may be able to run a data wire (i.e. CAT5 or USB) to the building if needed, however it would take about 75 feet of cable. I want to be able to see my dogs when it's daylight and when it's night. Some light comes in through a window from an exterior light so it's not totally dark, just dim at night. I want a good quality color image, prefer full motion video, prefer 640 X 480 or better but don't really need sound. I also want to be able to stream this to the internet so I can see what's happening from work or while we are on vacation. I would like to spend less than $75.
    1) What webcam models would you recommend?
    2) If I can run a data cable to the dog building, which is better/easier USB or CAT5?
    3) Is there anything else I should consider?Thanks...

II got the creative live wireless it comes with a usb cam I think it's a creative live which I believe has the cmos sensor (the cheep one of the two kinds) and it works ok outside but the automatic speed and light does not seem to work. Every day I must unplug the server part of the cam and when I plug it back in then it usually sets the speed and light right but I must keep adjusting the brightness to view it .if they fix this with a firmware update that fixes the automatic video adjustments (and other problems)it would be an affordable cam to view your dogs.

  • How do i use my web cam, where do i go to, to get started

Can't figure out where to go to be able to use my web cam. Its not in my devices and printers area.

Firstly, uninstall the current version of Cyberlink Youcam and re-install it.
To Uninstall: Click Start >> type Programs and Features in search and select it from the list >> In there, select Cyberlink Youcam and uninstall it.
Once done, try using webcam with Skype or any other messenger you may have, or else re-install Youcam.
If the above does not work, do a System Restore to a previous working date when the webcam worked.
System Restore: Click Start >> type System Restore in search and select it any perform on-screen instructions to restore the notebook to a previous working date.
If none of the above work, open Device Manager, check if you have 'HP Webcam' listed under Imaging Devices category.
You would find the Product Number on the sticker in the battery compartment, will be similar to XT594PA#ABA.
