Wireless weird issue related to power supply

Hello,
I have been having some issues from time to time with my wireless connection from my MBP to my router . Distance is out of the question since the router is very close to the desk where the mbp stands.
At first i thought it was the router, since its a cheap one. But tonight i had another issue. I just couldnt connect to the router , getting a Connection Timeout error. I looked up a little on google, saw somewhere someone saying something about unplugging all usbs, power source etc. So i unplugged the power cable from the MBP , and voila! it connected. Very strange, i dont know why this should cause an issue...but thats just half of it. As i was mentioning at the beggining of the post, from time to time i had some issues with the wireless connection from the MBP to the router, the issues were bad connectivity. I was testing it via TERMINAL -> ping router_ip ...and getting like 60% or more loss. Since tonight i was 99% sure it was the router's fault, but tonight i thought to try something at one time when the issues surfaced again: i unplugged the power cable from the MBP and..suprise suprise, no more packet losses on the PING results...and i tested...plugged the power cable , PING returning losses (and of course, web pages loading like crap)..unplugg => all fixed.
I dont know what to make out of this...the mbp is new, about 2 months, 17 inch model, 2.8 ghz...Maybe anyone knows anything or had the same issues?

I am having a similar but mirror image of your problem: my network connection keeps dropping out ONLY when on battery power. If I stream music from the Time Capsule router, the connection is solid. If I check the Airport connection in the menu bar, it will return (briefly). When MBP is on AC power, all is good.
I suspect a software problem, perhaps a plist item somewhere is corrupted but where should I look? I migrated all my network settings from a clone of my old MBP which exhibited the same symptoms.
Maybe I will start a new user account just to see if problem is there also.......

My iMac went totally went black tonight when my grandchildren were using the iMac. I can't power it up? Have there been issues with the power supply?

It may just be the power cord (between the mains and the computer).   If you have an Apple store or Authorised store near you, take the cord in and check it out.  Indeed, check if it has been partly pulled out by pressing it firmly into the back of the computer.

  • OpenGL? After Effects Issue / Related to Power Surge?

    Hello.
I had a power surge that killed the power supply on my Quad 2.5GHZ G5. I got that fixed at the Apple Store, but since getting it back I was getting errors with OpenGL in After Effects. I had to disable it to get faster previews of what I was doing. I have very little understanding of what the OpenGL plug-in does or how it relates to my monitor, but could that power surge have affected this and caused this problem? Hopefully there is enough info here to offer me some guidance.
    Thanks in advance.

This may be a specific case of a combination of the graphics card, your RT.X100 and the Matrox CoDecs. I suppose you went with the Parhelia to ensure maximum compatibility to ensure maximum compatibility with the other Matrox stuff and now it's biting you in your behind. I really do think that it's an issue with either Pixel Bender probing the card and not "exiting gracefully" when it finds it incompatible or MediaCore trying to manage your Matrox CoDecs when it isn't supposed to... If you are feeling adventurous, you could try to re-install the system without the video hardware and CoDecs, just the Parhelia and see how AE CS4 behaves, but of course that's just as undesirable. You could also try creating different hardware profiles (via your device manager), but usually, once a system is "polluted" with offending components, this does not bring the desired betterment...

  • Troubleshoot related to power supply

when i run my laptop without charger & even battery shows 40% or 50% remaining but power cut autometically and it is not switched on again. why?  pls repply

ok i found this article about power consumption of 6800 ultra
    http://www.spodesabode.com/content/article/6800upower
    also
    http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
to calculate the overall consuption according to it athlong64 + 6800 gt will draw just about 200W ... now theoreticly 12 v line alone with 18 amps will supply 215 w
so dont u guys think u are exagerating alittle bit with the whole cant have less then 24 amps on 12 v rail thing?
of course u might be right about the more amps u got the safer u are for an upgrade and all, but u cant just blame every problem on a PSU

  • Issue Relating to Power Cost in Daily Product Costing

    Hi,
We are doing daily product costing. Here we want to allocate the power units of service to production cost centers proportionately on daily basis. Can anyone tell me is there any option in SAP and we need to go for development.

    hi,
Power usage or cost can be apportioned only monthly wise not possible on daily basis. U can run the distribution or assessment cycle only for month wise, but not on daily basis.

  • IMac G5 20" power supply problem

The power supply on my 20" G5 recently fried. Somehow I had the activity monitor showing that the "FaxJobMgr" was using about 70% of my cpu. I had had that problem before and the computer was very warm. I quit that process but shortly after that there was an acrid smell that I ultimately found was coming from the power supply. When I re-started everything came up to the desktop but then it shut down just as if the plug were pulled. I see that there were many issues with the power supply on this first generation G5. I took it to the Apple Store and they say it is the power supply AND there appears to also be damage to the logic board. $734. I'm wondering if maybe its only the power supply and they are just being cautious that there might be damage to the logic board so just replace it or buy a new computer. I thought I might try to replace the power supply only, but then that seems to be about a $120 that might be gone. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Generally speaking, the defects which affect a logic board and power supply in that family of products are similar, but there typically exists no causal link between them. It is possible to have a logic board affected by the defective electrolytic capacitor issue, a defective power supply, or both.
You can readily determine if the logic board is defective by examining the clusters of capacitors on the logic board for bloating, distended tops or leakage. If they exhibit such symptoms, your logic board can be repaired for $ 189.00 by contacting this company.
You may also need to replace the power supply, thought that determination is best made once the logic board as been verified as good or bad, and replaced, if you elect to do so. Power supplies for this product family generally cost roughly $ 139.00, and are user replaceable. Replacing the supply in a unit which exhibits the defective capacitor issue will not correct the logic board related problem, and may—under relatively rare circumstances—cause the eventual failure of the replacement supply.

  • Qosmio X70 - Wireless connection issue

    Hello Everyone,
I totally had enough of Windows 8.1 on my Qosmio X70-A laptop, so I decided to get rid of Windows 8 and installed Windows 7 Ultimate.
Since installing Win 7 my Wireless NIC connects to my network, then drops every so often and takes ages to reconnect.
I have installed the drivers from Toshiba's website to get them working and the problem started. This then lead me to install Intel Driver Update Utility 2.0, which recommended an update which I have installed. The WLAN is still intermittent. It is not my router as my iPad and other PC's can still access the internet,
    *My Toshiba:*

    +Serial Number:+ YD031932C
    +Wireless NIC+: Intel Wireless-N 7260
    +Hardware ID:+ Ven_8086 Dev_08B1
    +Current Driver:+ 17.13.11.5
I have checked the that power management in Device manager is turned off for this device.
It is driving mad, any help would be much appreciated.

Ave you noticed this issue using AC power supply and using notebook with battery power supply?
Please check advanced power settings in power profile that you use and set options for WLAN card to maximum performance.
Test it please and post some feedback.

  • Time Capsule power supply failures

Has the chronic Time Capsule power supply failure after about 18 months use been fixed in the new Time Capsules being sold today?  I had a 500GB Time Capsule I recently had to scrap because of this.

It is always possible there is another fault.. to shut down after a minute.. if you are relating that correctly.. is unusual.. I would power the board from 5v 2A supply.. that will quickly show if the issue is your power supply or not.
The TC is definitely in need of more cooling but I would hate to suggest doing a major modification until it runs out of warranty. It is possible to improve the existing cooling with a bit of smarts.. a laptop (or netbook size) cooler to which you can seal the TC.. this is the tricky bit.. you need to allow a space underneath though.. perhaps 10mm.. and seal just the edge of the TC so it allows the cooler to draw air through the TC. That will work without modifying it. But you will need to make up a proper spacer and gasket.
I see pictures of various fans mounted on the top.. they are next to useless. Cooling the outside plastic will achieve only the tiniest improvement in heat transfer due to the thick plastic (insulating) top.. if it was made out of metal maybe it would do something.
Sounds like what is also needed is a different heat sensor that would start the fan at a lower temperature.
It is not the sensor that is the issue. The TC includes a proper fan controller. It is simply set too high.. and so it doesn't turn on.
If you want to break into the TC.. you can solder in a console.. and use serial to USB adapter.. these are very cheap.. the soldering in is tricky.

  • NI-Visa - Timeout during initialize of power supply

Hello, I'm having an issue initializing a power supply using the NI-Visa libraries. After creating the session, the 1st call to Initialize() always fails. If I call it once again, it always succeeds. Adding a delay between the session creation and the init call did not help.
An oddity is that running SPY causes the problem to go away. I tried this a few times while recording and never saw the timeout. However, once SPY was stopped the same timeout behavior could be seen again. Does SPY add some type of latency within the NI-Visa libraries?
Any suggestions or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Below are some setup notes in no particular order. Thanks.
    1.       Power supply: Lamda 40-85, Genesys 3.3kW
    2.       Issue: Initialize() must be called twice before returning successful
    3.       Visa error: Timeout expired before operation completed.
    4.       Steps to recreate:
    4.1.    Create session
4.2.    Call initialize, results in a timeout
    4.3.    Call initialize, returns success
    5.       Setup details:
    5.1.    NI Visa libraries
    5.2.    Visual Studio 2010, C#, .NET 4.0
    5.3.    Reference libraries:
    5.3.1. ivi.dcpwr.interop, runtime version v1.0.3705, version 2.0.0.0
    5.3.2. ivi.driver.interop, runtime version v1.0.3705, version 1.0.0.0
    5.3.3. ivi.sessionfactory.interop, runtime version v1.0.3705, version 1.0.0.0
5.4.    NI PXI Chassis, Windows XP
    5.5.    GPIB interface

I tried the updated dll's, actually only "ivi.sessionfactory.interop.dll" was newer, but received the same behavior.
I also sent the "*IDN?" message using the communicator, but was unable to reproduce the behavior no matter how many times I queried the power supply. However, there is a discrepancy between sending the "Initiate" command from within code versus using the communicator and sending "*IDN?", so I am unsure how to replicate the same steps. My previous post detailed the SPY log in response to sending the "Initiate" command, while sending "*IDN?" results in:
    1.  ibwrt(UD0, "*IDN?", 5 (0x5))
Process ID: 0x00000F58         Thread ID: 0x00000330
Start Time: 16:25:12.437       Call Duration 00:00:00.000
    ibsta: 0x100       iberr: 0             ibcntl: 5(0x5)
    2.  ibrd(UD0, "LAMBDA,GEN40-...", 2000 (0x7D0))
Process ID: 0x00000F58         Thread ID: 0x00000330
Start Time: 16:25:12.437       Call Duration 00:00:00.359
    ibsta: 0x2100       iberr: 0             ibcntl: 45(0x2d)
My app uses VISA commands while the communicator uses "ibwrt", etc. How do I go about simulating the "Initiate" call while using the Communicator? My code is posted at the bottom of this reply for clarity.
An oddity that is that, after a failed attempt to initiate the device which results in a timeout exception, the communicator can be used to read the standard response to the "*IDN?" command. This is the case even if the "idQuery" boolean of the "initiate" method is set to false. If idQuery=true, how is the resulting name supposed to be read back? The initiate function does not have a return value or any way of passing by reference. I tried all four combinations of the two flags, "idQuery" and "Reset", but nothing seemed to change in any configuration.
In response to your question about the firmware version, I pulled this from the spy file: "LAMBDA,GEN40-85-IEMD,S/N:xxxxxxx,REV:2U:3.0-D-". The reply appears to be truncated so I'll double check the response on Monday once I'm at the computer with the SPY file.
Again, thank you for input and attention. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. It will be sometime next week until I will be able to perform any more troubleshooting unfortunately. Do you see anything wrong with the "Initiate" method call, especially the name used? I'm curious if I should use the full name instead of the alias, but if that is the case why does the "initiate" call work the 2nd time? Oh well, I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

    Hi Guys
Can anybody suggest a UPS for my intel G5 imac 24'. I am looking at something that will work directly with no software installation.

  • Second power supply - dangerous?

    Dear all,
Please dont answer if you really dont know - but in my quest to find out what the problems are with my 6600GT - I'd like to know if I can hook a second power supply to give juice to the graphics card molex without hurting my computer or the card.
Specifically - will this cause problems with having a second ground between the actual motherboard and graphics card?
Anyone who really knows will be a great help - I have a feeling its my power supply (crappy antec) thats the culprit of my problems...
    Thanks for any help,
    Dan

So, I did a lot of googling and used one of my electronic engineer friends who said 'dont be a pussy, get it on. They are all grounded using the same power strip so its a common ground anyways.'
I also took some advice from here:
    http://www.absoluteinsight.net/21
Where its a little explicit about what you need to do to get a second power supply up and running (the short of the pins is crucial to get it activated)
    What happened?
Well, after all the things i mention here NV6600GT VTD128 Hangs
I tried the 2nd power supply, and was vastly dissapointed with EXACTLY THE SAME RESULT - the MSI 6600GT simply hangs after about a minute.
So, I go to the Asus site, and I download a BETA BIOS for my machine. I flash. I cry. The machine no longer posts.
Back to the shop for a new motherboard, new RAM, new hard disk, and a replacement card.
Good news is, a second spare power supply is a good way to determine if you have issues with your power supply, so yes, it seems the Antec is in no way to blame for the issues here.
Tomorrow my good friend Damien will attempt to use the card in his machine - and see if it was compatibility issues with my nforce2 machine.
Thanks to all for their posts and help, time for some RMA action.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • Heat, and Fans, and a Power Supply issue! Oh, My!

    Hello,
My iMac G5 2Ghz (20") has been experiencing issues lately which I thought were resolved back when I brought it in for the "Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues". I took it to my local Apple Store and they replaced the power supply as well as my HD. The machine kept shutting off at random times as well as heating up, so it broke my HD after several months making me forced to bring it in. First and most importantly, the machine is producing a significant amount of heat which I believe is not normal, especially when doing simple tasks such as opening a file or folder on the desktop just after boot. I don't mean to complain about the heat, but the whole room is filled with hot air and it feels like somebody turned the heat on. I have several other Macs around my house and no two of them make as much heat as this one. (iMac G4 and eMac G4) The fans power on from time to time, but "rev up" when doing CPU intensive tasks. I understand the fans need to be at a higher speed, but they were never this high when I just used iMovie back in 2005 when this was new. Now, I know others have been having issues in these related areas as well, but is there anything else I can do. I have tried about everything, but I am just worried that power supply and HD will go again. Also, the highest inside temperature I recorded was "161.4°F". I thought that the normal temperature was "70°F", so if anyone could tell me that as well, it would be appreciated.
I have tried just about everything:
    PMU/SMU reset
    PRAM reset
    reset-all
    repair permissions
You name it, but fell free to reply with something new. (the fans are already clean)
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I at one point ran the hardware test using my installer disc and all was fine. It seems that the fans were actually running better when I booted from the disc which leads me to think it could really be partially a software issue. There is a possibility there is something corrupt in the system files, but I had to reinstall Mac OS X a few times due to them replacing my HD. It seems the computer runs cool with the lower versions of 10.4, but warmer with the higher versions of 10.4. It now makes sense because it shipped with a lower version and over time got worse with the higher versions. I am assuming that the people who got their power supplies replaced had the lasted update possible causing this issue. I cannot be 100% that it is software because I do not know exactly which system files run each hardware component. I am currently using the machine a lot and would not be too happy without it for about a week. (although, before the holidays come it may be best to bring it in before the holiday gift repair parade comes in!) Thanks again for the advice and if anyone owns this machine, feel free to share your message.

  • 1st Gen iMac Power Supply Issue

I just got my iMac G5 back from Apple after having the power supply and logic board replaced for the second time in two years.
It is apparently a fairly common problem with the first generation iMac G5s. I've basically been told it's a problem with no real solution and that they'll fix it for free (for the first three years). It's great that I'm within the three years, but if it happens again after October, I'm likely going to have to foot the bill to get it repaired.
Does anyone have any more detailed info on this issue (other than Apple's Repair Extension doc)? Would turning off the computer each night prolong the life of those parts? Would turning it on/off everyday reduce the life of those parts?
    Any thoughts/comments?
    Thnx...CN

    iMac G5

Just to add to BB's comments, I doubt that leaving the computer on will have any benefit at all for you in terms of longevity. If you have problems with faulty capacitors , and the like, in fact it will probably make the issue worse rather than better (though I doubt this will be a problem for you if your logic board was replaced after about April 2005). Doing so will probably also add a little extra wear to the bearings of your HD (unless you have it set to spin down when not needed) , and will cost you a little more (but not a whole lot - though when we all leave them running the environmental costs continue to mount) in electricity over time.
You should probably also shut down every so often anyway - maybe once a week or so, to help clear some potential memory issues that can persist with some applications even under OSX, and you should certainly shut down at and start up again at any time when you notice slowdowns, program "hangs" or other problems.
    Cheers

  • Why do I have to have my phone plugged into a power supply to sync wirelessly?

What is the point in being able to sync wirelessly if I still have to have my phone plugged into a power supply?  If I have to plug it into the wall, I may as well plug it into my Mac. That's pointless.

Yes, I realize that, but that pretty much makes the wireless sync pointless. You know what I mean? If I have to plug it in to anything I might as well plug it into my Mac
