Wireless with a PCMCIA Card

The gear: A Snow ABS and a Lombard (non-AirPort) PowerBook. Motorola and Lucent wireless adapter cards. OS 10.3.8 and OS 9.2.2.
I set up the computer originally with the Motorola card and Panther. The card is not compatible with 9.2.2.
Now needing 9.2.2 wireless capability I have the Lucent card installed and working very nicely with 9.2.2 but Panther cannot find the card. Not System Profiler, not AirPort Setup Assistant nor anything else.
I'm guessing that Panther is still looking for the Motorola card. How do I get the Lucent card recognized?
Thanks,
Cookie

Your problem is finding a set of drivers compatible with OS X for this card. OS X supports, natively, PCMCIA cards based on the Broadcom chipset, not the Lucent chipset.

  • Using the WRT54G3G-ST with cellular PCMCIA cards other than Sprint?

I am looking at using a Cingular PCMCIA "aircard" with my laptop, but would also like to take advantage of it at home for a desktops with wi-fi adapter when not in use with my laptop.  The WRT54G3G-ST seems to only be sold from Sprint (in the US at least), but I am wondering whether folks here have experience using it with any other vendor cellular broadband cards?  It would seem that this SHOULD work, but I wanted to see whether there are any known gatchas.

Have you changed Sprint login info to Cingular info?
In notebook, load Sierra Watcher software, verify card connects thru watcher, then ask watcher for particulars of connection to Cingular.
Change all the Sprint connection info to Cingular.
One other problem, Sprint frequencies may differ. Sierra web has pdf with command set of Sierra cards, so you can ask card for frequency band it is using.
Many posts of connecting to Cingular in Linux should apply to G3G connection to Cingular. Many lists of conection protocols are in those posts.
Please reply if it works near fast as same card does in Windiz!

  • Unable to count fast pulses with DAQ(pcmcia card)AI-16E-4, using the example vi

I am using the AI-16E-4 PCMCIA Daq card to count pulses from a device that has an open collector pulse output. I am current just trying it out to see if I can get it to count the pulses correctly before I go ahead and further develop the program. I am using the Example program for counting pulses with this device.
What I am finding is that when I increase the pulse rate above about 20,000hz it slows down and then stops counting pulses. The documentation for this device states the max input frequency is 20mhz, therefor it should be able to count the pulses I am planing on providing. The fastest rate the device I am connected is around 2.mhz. Can someone tell me how to get the AI-16E-4
to count these open collector pulses.

    Hello;
You need, first of all, to provide a pull up resistor for the open collector device, in a way that its high state fits within the TTL levels.
Once that is done, you just connect its output to the counter source input. The device should be able to go up to 20MHz, with no problem.

  • Problems with GPIB-PCMCIA card

    Hi all
I am using a PCMCIA-GPIB with driver version 2.2 on a Windows XP with a PCI-to-PCMCIA Adapter from Ricoh (device manager says: Ricoh R/RL/RT/RC/5C475II,R5C520 or compatible cardbus controller).
The Win XP detects the card without any problems and there are no resource conflicts.
However, I cannot communicate with GPIB devices and the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard says:
    1. NI-488.2 Software Presence = verified
    2. GPIB Hardware Presence =
And then a new screen: "The trouble shooting wizard has detect that no GPIB interfaces are configured on your system"
Can someone help me? There are no resource conflicts and I have also tried changing the PCI slot. The same problem also occurred when I installed the card in
    another computer.
    Regards,
    Juan"

    Hello Juan,
the first thing I would do is to check that the board is working OK. You will need a laptop to test it.
Once this is confirmed (if not, contact NI for a repair), it can be safely attributed to some incompatibility with the adapter.
At that point, I would check with Ricoh as they may have an updated driver for their board that fixes the issue, or they may have an idea on what's going on. Another thing would be to check your PCs BIOS configuration and see if any setting may help into solving the incompatibility (PCI settings, IRQs, bus-mastering, etc..)
As side suggestions, although I don't feel this will be the issue:
a)it's always advisable to use the latest version on the driver software -NI-488.2-, available at the web
    b)check for an updat
e to the motherboard's BIOS at the manufacturer's site.

  • Portege 3480ct: Cannot use the 16bit PCMCIA card

    Hello,
    I got a Problem with a PCMCIA-Card (new media wave jammer, 16bit) on a 3480 with Win98 & XP.
The card appears as a unknown device only in the "remove Hardware"-Tool.
In the device-manager it isn't listed at all and Windows didn't ask for the driver.
Looks like a demaged card, but this card still works fine in another Notebook!
The Problem could be related to different Memory areas used by the Cardservice.
The Cardservice at the 3480ct seems not to be configurable.
    What can i do?
    Thanks

    Hi
The PCMCIA card doesnt need an driver!
From my knowledge you should check the settings in the BIOS!
On the second BIOS page you should try to change the Device Config to All devices and in the PC card section you should set the controller mode to Cardbus/16bit
    .then save the BIOS settings.
    Maybe it helps

  • Has anyone gotten the FBUS PCMCIA card to work on a PCI to PCMCIA adapter board?

I have lots of success with the PCMCIA card in laptop PCMCIA slots, but no luck with the PCMCIA card in a desktop PC with a Quatech PCD-B/PCI-E PCI adapter for PCMCIA boards.  I am thinking that my problem resides with the adapter board but I would like to know if anyone has had success with the FBUS series 2 PCMCIA card with a PCI to PCMCIA adapter.  I got a WinXP SP2 IBM ThinkCentre desktop.  Thanks

We have ever used some PCMCIA to PCI adaptors, they are working properly with NI PCMCIA-FBUS card as well as NI-FBUS software.
I'd like to recommend the single CardBus PCMCIA slot adaptor from Elan Digital System:
    http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/adapter/pci.php
We have used the adaptor in a Dell Dimension desktop, running XP SP2, and NI-FBUS Configurator 3.1.1 runs well.
Another adaptor is a long card, which is Gigabyte GA-MPCI, it works well with some old desktops, but the length of the card is about twice of the card of Elan Digital System; it might not fit your requirement.
    Hope it helps.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: BSOD when I use Vodafone PCMCIA card

I want to use UMTS on a Toshiba Stellite Pro 4600. I got a PCMCIA Card from Vodafone and installed with all updates.
But if I want to use UMTS and, that means start the application and connect to Vodafone, Windows shuts down with a Bluescreen:
    DRIVER_IRQL_not_less_or_equal STOP 0x0...D1, 0x0...00, 0x0...02, 0x0...00, 0x0...00.

    Hi
Did you check if this happens with every PCMCIA card?
I have noticed that the Vodafone card causes the BSOD on some notebooks with P4 CPUs and enabled hyper threading technology.

But there could be also a problem with the Vodafone card firmware.
    A firmware update could helps.

  • PCMCIA card slot on Macbook

The Macbook Pro has an ExpressCard/34 slot, but the Macbook does not. how many people think that the MacBook should come with a PCMCIA card slot? how would i contact Apple?

The proper venue for sending Apple suggestions, complaints, and bug reports is http://www.apple.com/feedback/.
If an ExpressCard/34 slot was an important feature for your computer, then you should have purchased a MacBook Pro. Nevertheless, there are some USB-to-PCMCIA products on the market. I do not know if these work on a MacBook:

  • SD Memory Card in PCMCIA card slot?

I've got a newer digital Canon A1100 camera that uses an SD memory card with JPEG format photos.
Can I use a PCMCIA card adapter for the SD memory card and will it and the JPEG photos be recognized by my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet running OS 9.1? Or is it more complicated than that???
My Wallstreet read JPEGs from my older Canon A75 camera in this manner, but that camera uses a CompactFlash card with a PCMCIA card adapter. I just shove the card and adapter into the PCMCIA card slot and it appears on the desktop and the photos open perfectly. Works great with no additional software.
Will an SD card in a PCMCIA card adapter work the same no fuss manner?
    Thanks!

Does the PCMCIA card adapter have an SD plug-in slot? If it does, then it should.
However, some years ago, I had a USB memory card reader. Then when I bought a 4GBHD SD card, the reader wouldn't read it. I had to buy a new card reader.
If the PCMCIA card adapter doesn't work, suggest you buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Satellite A60 - BSOD when surfing with wireless PCMCIA card

Hello i used to browse internet with a wireless cardbus WL-54-CB (ADVANCE) on my Satellite A60-120 running windows xp sp2.
I was working well until i decided to clean my computer which was slowed down by viruses.I use Ad-aware and Kaspersky and updated patches on wndowsupdate. Now the PC is clean but i have problems with the PCMICA card, when i launch IE i surf for one minute and windows crashe BSOD !
    It displays :
    STOP 0x00000001 (0xFE570000,0x00000002,0x00000001,0x819587DE)
Any ideas to fix it ?
    Thanks.

Cmon Guys... Stop that Toshiba Recovery Disk madness... Its no use... The Recovery Disk is as old as your laptop.. maybe older... The whole bunch of drivers in there are old... Its no use... Look.. For example if you have an Nvidia graphic Chip, you have to install the newest Nvidia driver... Prefer using the Nvidia driver, never the driver from Toshiba... And besides... It is always better to install the system manually...
Back to the question... Since you had a virus I would recommend to reinstall your OS, even you think its clean... To solve your problem...
    deinstall the wireless card driver
deinstall the PCMCIA driver and install the newest driver. Write down the Model and some other infos before deinstalling it :) ...
    reinstall the wlan crad driver...
    test it :)
I always recommend to make a system backup every month... So if things go wrong... Just restore the backup... and everything is fine again... :)

  • Equium L10 doesn't recognise any wireless PCMCIA card that I install

    Hi,
I've just bought a brand new Toshiba Equium L10 and I can't get any wireless card to install. I have tried different models from Belkin, Netgear and MSI, all of which work perfectly fine on other laptops but not on this one.
The L10 is a clean Windows XP SP2 build straight from the retailer and I am carrying out the following steps to install the wireless network card:
    1. Start Windows XP SP2 and log on as admin
    2. Run software for the wireless card
    3. Insert wireless card
At this stage, windows only recognises the wireless card as an ethernet adaptor and won't install the drivers. Even if I install it manually and point it specifically to the correct directory, it still fails to pick up the drivers and says that there is nothing in the directory for the hardware that I am installing.
I have the latest BIOS for the L10 and have tried all of the following to no avail:
    1. Disable USB legacy support in BIOS
    2. Disable built in ethernet
    3. Run Toshiba PC Diagnostics (reports that everything is working just fine including PCMCIA)
    4. Rebuild laptop using supplied Toshiba DVD
Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong? This is driving me crazy and I've never had this kind of issue with any other laptop. Is this a known fault with Toshiba laptops and what's the fix?
Is it a Win XP SP2 problem? Is my laptop faulty?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    K.

Can you post the details of this card?
Did you contact the PCMCIA card manufacture for support? Maybe there is a new driver release for this card.
I have noticed some problems with a Vodafone PCMICA card on a Satellite P10. This card has caused a blue screen on the unit. Well, the disabling of hyper threading technology in the BIOS has solved this issue. On another cards the new driver release has also solved some strange problems.
However, what I would say is there are many things which could have a bad influence.
Firstly I would recommend to ask the card manufacture for a support.

  • Will Wireless WRT54G3G Work with USB Broadband card?

Hi, I bought the WRT54G3G Router... When it arrived I realized it was made to take a plug in Broadband card with the small connectors. I have a USB broadband card. Does anyone know if it will still work via another method, ie: via a lan line, or if there is an adapter for the wireless plugin that would convert it so it could be used with a USB port? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you... Jo

  • Getting Wireless PCMCIA card to work

Attempting to get a Linksys wpc54G wireless PCMCIA card to work on my 1.5Ghz G4 PB.
I verified that the card works, by plugging it into to a PC.. ( works fine)
Plugging the card into my pcmcia slot, on nothing. No lights.. nothing.
I get the PCMCIA icon on the menu bar, three options
    unknown vendor <-grayed out
    Network controller <-grayed out
    Power card off.
I read where there might be some hack that I have to do to get PCMCIA support running, but no clues after that.
    Any help is greatly appreciated...
    Larry

    Hi,
When I got my PCMCIA wireless card (not Linksys) it came with an install CD. The G4 maybe wouldn't of known what it was or what to do with it on it's own, needed the install feature.
Works fine once installed. Did you get an install CD for it from Linksys? For the Mac OSX? If not, it might pay to check their web-site for one.

  • Wifi prism pcmcia card and problems with ctrl module insert

    hi
probably until initrd based kernel i can't control what module for my pcmcia wireless card zcom 325h will be used.
i think the process inserting modules for pcmcia devices is maintined by tools from pcmcia-cs pkg.
devices assigned to drivers via manfid are in /etc/pcmcia/config and in name order included /etc/pcmcia/*.conf
but when was hostap driver moved from own package into the kernel package the /etc/pcmcia/hostap.conf was removed and now i don't know how to disallow to load this ugly module after pcmcia card inserting
i would like to use orinoco_cs instead.
    thanks for any help

    Hello,
I am owner of AR8131 which runs with atl1c without problems.
Unfortionally it seems that module does not have any optional parameters so i guess it wont be "easy" fix.
    hits:
check your bios for "NET AI" or w/e named function that checks for bad cabels ( got many problems in the past with nvidia cards if i remember correct with those type of functions )
In any case wish ya luck
