Wireless Zero Configuration fails to start. (WZC)

When the computer is turned on the WZC fails to start.  This wasn't a problem until two days ago.  I have to use the BT Desktop Help which resolves whatever the issue is but every time I power down the problem returns.  No new programs loaded.  No new hardware added.  Any suggestions on how to fix the problem.

It is usually cause by a 3rd party wireless manager which conflicts with Windows.
The usual culprit is the BT Wireless manager.
If you want to use Windows to manage your wireless connection, then it would be best to remove the BT one using add/remove programs.
BT Desktop Help, often causes more problems than it fixes in some cases. Again, unless you really cannot manage without it, I would advise removing it.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Linksys Wireless Network monitor overrides Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration

    Hello all,
    I am currently using the wireless router Verizon sent me and it works fine when using the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration tool. Previously I was using a Linksys wireless router and I have the Linksys Wireless Network monitor installed. About half the time when starting up the computer, the Linksys monitor starts up and I have to manually switch to the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration tool. This is very irritating and I would like to know if there is a way I can remove the Linksys Monitor and still be able to use the Linksys wireless adapter cards installed in the computer.

    I think I know.
    #1 http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html
    #2 Very carefully, look through the list in MSConfig.
    #3 Disable the Linksys Wireless Network monitor.
    Restart the computer as need be.

  • [SOLVED] Shorewall Universal configuration fails to start

    I wanted to try shorewall.
    I installed it with pacman:

    I chose the Universal configuration, copying the corresponding files to /etc/shorewall.

    Since shorewall 4.6.2.5 the 'interfaces' file of the Universal configuration doesn't work anymore:
    août 19 16:14:09 arch64 shorewall[572]: Shorewall configuration compiled to /var/lib/shorewall/.start
    août 19 16:14:09 arch64 shorewall[572]: Starting Shorewall....

    août 19 16:14:10 arch64 systemd[1]: Unit shorewall.service entered failed state.
    The compiling stage worked but the generated script didn't.
    I identified the problem to be the usage of the '+' wildcard character in the 'physical' option value of the 'interfaces' file:
    #ZONE INTERFACE OPTIONS
    - lo ignore
    net all dhcp,physical=+,routeback,optional
    As I have only one interface 'eth0', I don't need to use a wildcard character and the 'all' value, so I changed the file to:
    #ZONE INTERFACE OPTIONS
    - lo ignore
    net eth0 dhcp,routeback,optional
    And the firewall works again after that change.
    It's certainly a regression bug introduced in the new releases.
    I changed the title of the thread
    from:
    Newly installed shorewall fails to start
    to:
    shorewall Universal configuration fails to start

    Thanks,
    RahulIt appears you have a working database, but the creation of the dbcontrol failed at installation/creation. I've seen this several times, due to the db not being registered with the listener.
    You are going to have to work at a command line. Sorry about that. ;-)
    First make sure your listener is up. (lsnrctl status)
    Second make sure the database is up (sqlplus / as sysdba)
    Next, make sure your db is registered with the listener (lsnrctl status)
    When all that is in place, you will need to drop and recreate your dbcontrol, using the 'emca' utility. I don't have the exact syntax at hand, but given what I've told you so far, it shouldn't be too hard to find the details. You may need to drop the SYSMAN user before recreating/reconfiguring the dbcontrol.

  • WRT54G Wireless not cooperating with Wireless Zero Configuration

    Hello! I'm wondering if anyone can help me spot out the problems that I have here: For a while this hasn't been too much of an issue, but whenever I try to view the list of Wireless Networks it gives the "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software." I have gone into the registries to find WZC has been on, and I unchecked/checked the option again to make sure it wasn't a source of the problem. Yet whenever I open the "Wireless Network Connection Status" window I am only given 2 tab options. The General tab, and the Support tab. The third tab is missing, the one that would allow me to check the option of letting Windows configure my wireless settings but I cannot seem to be able to bring that tab back no matter what. Any help at all is greatly appreciated, please and thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    This laptop is Windows XP and can connect to the router, the other laptop with Windows Vista can connect to it also.
    Edit: Ah before the laptop with Windows Vista wasn't able to connect to the router, after a firmware upgrade it could connect to it just fine but the laptop with XP's problem still existed.

  • Windows Zero Configuration does not start automatically

    It won't start automatically, even though I have set it to automatic in the Services Tab. Every time the computer goes to sleep, logs out or restarts, I have to go back into Services and restart it. How can I get it to start automatically. NOTE: I HAVE CHANGED THE STARTUP TYPE IN THE SERVICES TAB BUT IT IS TO NO AVAIL (I have asked this question in other places, and they still give me this answer, so I hope you guys are smart enough to not tell me what I already said I did.)

    On the recovery tab of the service properties, set them all to restart.  Does that work for you?  If you can not start a service, there might be some kind of malware or virus that is forcing the service to start.  Could also be a corrupted file on the hard drive.  If you look at your event logs, does it show what any error messages?

  • Network: Unknown / The dependency service or group failed to start

    Hello, MicroSoft tech crew. I know my issue is not something new to you, there are earlier posts with similar to identical problems to mine. For a whole day I tried everything I could find on the internet to fix my issue, but nothing seemed to work.
    I cannot connect to the internet. My network and sharing center displays the following, instead of the map:
    Unknown
    The dependency service or group failed to start.
    I am running windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
    I used ESET NOD32 as antivirus. I uninstalled it the day this issue appeared.
    I have no restore point.
    Any other computer or device can successfully connect to my router.
    Re-installing a fresh copy of windows is not an option.
    These are the solutions I tried and didn't work:
     I tried restarting the router (1 minute power-off)
     I HAVE reinstalled my drivers for both LAN and WAN network cards at least twice each.
    ~ I  ran the following commands in CMD as administrator over 3 times, successfully, followed by reboot:
    * sfc /scannow
    * netsh winsock reset // netsh winsock reset catalog
    * netsh int ip reset // netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
    I have checked the following in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servicel\NlaSvc has always had full control and read permissions for both SYSTEM and Administrators.
    I replaced my nlasvc.dll file from C:\Windows\System32\ with one from another computer (and set TrustedInstaller as its owner)
    Booting in Safe mode with networking does not change this situation.
    These are some of my services. Note that I turned some of those from Manual to Automatic.
    1) COM+ Event System
    * Automatic, Started
    2) Computer browser
    * Automatic, Started
    3) DHCP Client
    * Automatic, Stopped
    * When I attempt to start this service I get this error message:

    * When I attempt to start this service I get this error message:

    8) Server
    * Automatic, Stopped
    * When I attempt to start this service I get this error message:
      "Windows could not start the Server service on Local Computer."
      "Error 50: The request is not supported."
    * Dependencies:
    8.1) Security Accounts Manager (and the RPC)
    * Automatic, Started

    10) Wireless Zero Configuration (XP)
    * Nonexistent
    11) WLAN AutoConfig
    * Automatic, Started
    12) Workstation
    * Automatic, Started
    Also, my ipconfig /all looks very strange. I am not allowed to post pictures yet, but this is the image on skydrive server:
    /#cid=2168FA597AC0EAF1&id=2168FA597AC0EAF1%21107

    I follow your solution and found the
    Network Location Awareness service
    could not start.
    Then I found the solution from:
    http://mjmcfalls.wordpress.com/2012/04/07/network-location-awareness-service-terminated-with-service-specific-error-1073741288/
    by running the commands:
    net localgroup administrators localservice /add
    net localgroup administrators networkservice /add
    to add the "Localservice" user and "NetworkService" user
    to the adminstrators group.
    And the problem solved after reboot.

  • Windows xp keeps turning wireless zero config.off

    I have a new Toshiba PC which was working well until I connected a purchased/used Ipod mini to it in order to restore it. Since then, this PC has been turning the Wireless Zero Config service off and not connecting to our Airport Extreme. If I restart the PC it will configure for awhile and then randomly loose the connection. When I check the Airport Admin the home network is not identified. Other computers in the network have not problems. This seems to have started when I connected the ipod--it zapped something. I anyone can help, I'd certainly appreciate it. I've tried all many of the support sites at Windows and Apple. Thanks, Betty

    Missing Zero Wireless Configuration Installation
    Enable Display Hidden Files
    - Open Windows Explorer, click Tools, and select Folder Options.
    - Go to the View tab and scroll down until you come across the option “Show Hidden Files and Folders” and check it. Also, uncheck the option “Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended).”
    - Click OK.
    Install the Wireless Zero Configuration Service
    - Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
    - In the Control Panel window, if you’re in Category View, then under Pick a Category, double-click the Network and Internet Connections icon (if you’re in Classic View, click on the Network Connections icon and skip to step #4).
    - In the Network and Internet Connections window, under the Control Panel icon, double-click the Network Connections icon.
    - In the Network Connections window, under LAN or High Speed Internet, click to select the Local Area Connection icon.
    - On the menu bar, click File and select Properties from the file menu. (Altneratively, right-click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the context menu).
    - In the Local Area Connections Properties window, on the General tab, click the Install button.
    - In the Select Network Component Type window, in the Click the type of network box, click to select the Service icon.
    - Click the Add button.
    - In the Select Network Service window, click the Have Disk button.
    - Click the OK button.
    - In the Install From Disk window, click the Browse button.
    - In the Locate File window, browse to the C:\Windows\Inf folder (this is a hidden folder).
    - Click to select NETWZC.INF.
    - Click the Open button.
    - In the Install from Disk window, click the OK button.
    - In the Select Network Service window, in the Network Service box, select Microsoft as the manufacturer, and then click to select Wireless Zero Configuration.
    - Click the OK button.
    At this point you’ll need to reboot your PC. With that completed, you should find that the Wireless Zero Configuration service has been successfully installed on your system and you should now have access to the Windows Network tab.
    NOTE: If you don’t see the Wireless Network tab when you go back into the Network Properties Page, then the most likely reason is that the service did not start. To initialize it, open Administrative Tools in the Control Panel and select Services. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration, Right-click on it, and select Start. The service is now enabled, and the Wireless Network tab will be visible in Network Properties.

  • WLC 440x 4.2.176 Windows Zero Configuration random disabling

    I have a lot of PCs that are running a combo of XP SP2 and SP3 that will randomly stop working and the windows zero configuration service will be stopped and or disabled.  They are associated with Cisco access points 1232 access points running LWAPP.  Wireless signal strength is not an issue.  No coverage problems.  I have a small wireless lab setup with 6 wireless laptops all running XP using 802.11G at 54 megs and some will just randomly drop connection and when I go and look the wireless zero configuration is disabled.  I use only the built in WIndows wireless to manage my connections.  When they stop working they stop working all at the same time, but not all.  Some will continue to work just fine.  I dont know what else to look at.  Has anyone else had this same issue that has a fix?  I am currently upgrading the WLC to a new code to see it that has any resolution.  The problem is that it is so random I cannot duplicate it.
    Thanks.

    The problem is that its not deauthenticating the user, its just dropping completely and disabling the windows zero configuration in the services.  I do not know how or what in the WLC would do this?  I really dont think this is anything that I can control.  I am guessing that there is an internal conflict on the pc.  I have been told that the image used to image the machine has had the manufacturers wireless client utility removed.  I did find a DW Utility in the services list.  I think that is my problem.  I did however go ahead and upgrade them to 5.2.193.  All I can do is have the customer monitor and see what happens.  Will post an update when I get one.

    In the Windows event viewer, this error is echoed:
    Failed to load Report Application Server settings from the system registry.
    Detailed Message: Access is denied.
    It seems my service account needs a certain permission to be able to load and read the registry for this application, and I'm sure this permission is discussed in the missing kbase article.
    Could you please let me know what permission is required for this user on the OS? This is Win2003 x64 SP2.
    Thanks, and have a good day

    Hi,
    if this a permissions problem then just start +regedit*, go to
    My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects
    select it, press the right mouse button and choose Permissions. Press the advanced button and assign your service account with full control at this point of the registry. Do not forget to select the +Replace Permissions Entries on all child objects ... + option.
    You can also take a look at Notes 1199630 and 1201489 (this one is for CR 10 but it may be worth it to follow the instructions there) ( [https://service.sap.com/notes])

  • TS3212 Application has failed to start because application configuration is incorrect

    Hello
    Am hoping for some help please if possible, I have just downloaded the latest version of I-Tunes, when I double click on the .exe to install I get the following message;
    This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
    I've tried searching forums and have seen similar posts - one suggesting it may be a problem with a dll file but gave no further details and another post that suggested it could be the .net framework which I downloaded a fix for from Microsoft but this has not worked unfortunately.
    I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
    Any help would be gratefully appreciated
    Thank you
    Richard

    Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • What happened? After this morning Firefox's update, I couldn't get into Firefox but got this message, "The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

    This morning I went to go into Firefox, a message came up stating it was updating. After the update, Firefox didn't open, so I clicked on the icon and got this message. C:\Program Files (x86) Mozilla Fire\firefox.exe. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. I tried removing & re-installing and I even try the Window's restoration point of a couple days back and I still get the message. Has anyone had or have this problem?

    You can click the link in my above post if you haven't done that yet.

    That SxS error seems to be caused by a corrupted Visual C installation that requires some DLL files to be reinstalled.

    This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Windows forum.

    This is a redirected question from

    While trying to run YouCam.exe, i encountered the error message,
    "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail. "
    I then searched the forums and installed a slew of updates that mostly VC++ Redistritutable 64-Bit version, DotNetFix etc etc but it still did not work.
    I then ran 'Event Viewer' and pulled out the error logs for the YouCam program.
    "Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\YouCam\YouCam.exe.Manifest". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0" could not be found.
    Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis."
    I am using a Fujitsu SH760 laptop which is running a Win7 64-bit Enterprise OS.
    Note that I do not have the recovery disk.
    Please assist and if you require further information, i will try to give it asap.
     Thank You.
