Wirelessly File Transfer to and from my N8 (anna)

Hello,
I want to move some files from my phone to a laptop.  I do not have any cables.   These files are large (200 mb).
The laptop can detect me has a hotspot.  Anyway I can leverage that to transfer files?
I read about Dukto - but it requires a client side install - and I don't have admin rights....
No Bluetooth.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
VeePee

  • Blackberry pearl and curve media file transfer to and from macs

in order to transfer pics and mp3's back and forth from blackberry to the mac, you need to 1st install the latest version of pocket mac with the latest driver update for the macs on the rim website. once installed plug the blackberry via usb and check the blackberry for a message saying to enable mass storage. click yes on the blackberry and the macbook treats it as an external drive. open that drive and you'll see different media type folders and the micro sd card folder if you have one installed. at this point the transfer is simple, all you do is click, drag, and drop. viola! done that easy!!!!

I did everything you wrote below, but the BB never asked if it could be used as a mass storage device. The Mac didn't recognize the BB either. Do I need to have a micro SD card installed in the BB to make this work. Thanks in advance for your help.

You need Lightroom 5.5 or later (the most current version is 5.7.1). This is a free update if you have already purchased an earlier version of Lightroom 5.

  • File transfer speed and distance from base station?

I tested the file transfer time (outside with no obstructions) by moving a large video file between my MacBook and a computer wired to an Airport base station.   The times were the same as distance increased until the connection dropped.  Why?

    Do the calculations.
(Although wireless qualifies more for voodoo project than science).
500MB translates to 5.7MB/s which is near enough to 46Mbits/s
    500MB in 94sec is 42.6Mbits/s
That is really slow for 5ghz at such close distance to the airport.
What OS are you running? Please open the wireless diagnostics.
About Wireless Diagnostics - Apple Support
    Run the wireless utility.
And get the actual link speed and how well it is working.
Then use iperf to get actual network speeds. Rather than moving a file test the link rates.
iperf is included in Mac OS and is available via terminal.
This post gives some clues. http://acidx.net/wordpress/2013/05/testing-a-network-connection-with-iperf/
I think your seeing a hold up due to slow ethernet say.. 100mbit ethernet will ruin any numbers you are trying to get in tests. As well as older slow Mechanical hdd in laptops.
But the link speed in the Utility will tell you the story.. if you link at 450Mbps which should be possible up close.. and it drops to say 200Mbps at a range of 130M you are still far faster than the rate determining step.. very likely to be a slow disk plus slow ethernet.
Go to the performance tab.. and keep it running as you move the computer from next to the Airport to the 130M point. You should see a pretty large drop in connect speed.. but you also need to keep this running as you transfer files.. since it tends to vary greatly during a file transfer.
For science experiments.. this is already a pretty good one.. you are trying to determine the rate determining step in a network system and why wireless is not causing the problem you expected. The use of actual diagnostic tools is great.. almost like science.
The big spike in this graph is me changing from 2.4ghz to 5ghz.

  • RV220W wireless file transfer slow at 2MBps?

I have a RV220W operating in 2.4GHz N-only mode. Channel bandwidth is set to 20MHz, channel to 6 (a site survey shows that channel as completely clear), WPA2/AES. I am connected to a TrendNet wireless bridge. The admin page for that wireless bridge shows a link quality of 100% with a signal strength of 71%. If I select a higher channel (11), the signal strength drops to 51%.
I have a Windows 7 PC connected to the Trendnet bridge and a Windows 7 server connected to the RV220W, both via a 1Gbps LAN port. When I transfer a file from the server to the PC or vice versa, I get a lowsy 2MBps (~20Mbps) transfer rate. That seems awfully slow. I tried channel bonding from 20 to 40 MHz, but that did not help. What could I do to improve this??

    Hello Awesterink,
Wireless is extremely subjective. To approach this, I would to break everything down starting at the basics.
Disconnect all wireless clients from the network
Remove the bridge from the network
Connect a single computer wireless to the RV220W
Connect from a close proximity of the router
    Test the connection
Introduce more clients to the RV220W connection
    Test the connection
Introduce the bridge to the connection
    Test the connection
Test the connection through the bridge with 1 client
Test the connection through the bridge with more clients
Try to narrow down the break down as much as possible. For each change, test to see the result. Once you identify where things are bogging down, then we have a direction to go.

  • HT204144 File transfer using Airdrop from iphone to Macbook Pro

File transfer using airdrop form Macbook Pro to iphone is working...but from iphone to Macbook Pro is not working, Why?

    Hi Brok25;
Thanks for the question.  The resource below explains the specs and settings that are needed for AirDrop.  Check the settings and look to see if your MacBook Pro is listed.
Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203106
Sending files to and from an older Mac
If a Mac you're using with AirDrop was manufactured before 2012, you can send and receive files with other Mac computers.
On the sending Mac, click "Don't see who you're looking for" in the AirDrop window.
Select the option to "Search for an Older Mac."
On the receiving Mac, open a new Finder window and click AirDrop in the sidebar.
    Tips for sending files
Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on your Mac and your iOS device. Although you don't have to connect to a specific network, Wi-Fi needs to be on to send and receive files using AirDrop.
Move your devices closer together. AirDrop is designed to work within a range of approximately 30 feet (9 meters). If you need to send a file to someone farther away, consider using File Sharing, iCloud, or email instead.
If you're using a firewall on your Mac, you won't be able to receive AirDrop files if you have enabled "Block all incoming connections" in the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences.
Make sure your devices meet system requirements for AirDrop.
    System Requirements
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need the Mac models listed below with Wi-Fi turned on and OS X Lion or later installed.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.
For help identifying your Mac, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. You can refer to the Apple Support website to find out if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch includes a lightning connector.
    Cheers,
    - Judy

  • Zen micro file transfer error and playing mista

My Zen Micro 5GB had some problems wih the sound:sometimes, listening to a song, I heard (more orless) a second of another song but after that isreturned to the selected one. This is not the only problem: sometimes, whentransferring data between a PC and the player'sstorage dri've (2GB) it stops after a while. When transferring music from the player to the PCusing Music Organizer the PC receives some musicbut after a while it stops and displays amessage 'Cannot transfer file: file not found';after this, the player remains 'busy' also if youclose all the programs opened. I tried to fix this in many ways I installed the version 2.x firmware, so Icould re-install the latest .x version.2) I learned how to access the recovery functionsand I tried all of themBut after all this, it continues to display theerror message and I think sometimes it could stopplaying the song I'm listenig to and play asecond of another one.

all the songs are mp3 format
the transfer window pops up, the status will say writing for about 5sec. then the error comes up and says unable to create file - restart player and try again.
but then the player has the acti've docked logo on, which you aren't supposed to unplug from the computer when that's on, but it will not go off. I've left it for hours and ended up unplugging it anyway. So I've restarted it, pulled the batter and retried that a few times too.
    Any ideas?

  • File transfer programs and third party software to new i-mac

    Short answer:No.
    you can either:
    1. reinstall everything on the new machine,
    or
    2. at your own risk, use SuperDuper to backup (clone) your old drive onto the new machine, if you are using the same OS.

  • How do I network a 4yr old Macpro with the latest 15" Retina MBP for fast file transfer (back and forth)

    Hi
I have recently updated my equipment and now wish to use my MBP to edit files that currently reside on my old MacPro.
I have made a wifi connecting and also set up file sharing but both prove very slow and also - once the file is ready I cannot save it back to the orginal folder.
Basically, I have lots of stuff on my MacPro that is too big to take across, so all I wish to use my new machine and have the option to save back to the old machine as and when needed.
Can someone advise me on what I need to do, whether that be buy some cables to take advantage of thunderbolt, or any other good working solutions.
    many thanks
    Simon
I am also trying to copy over the font from the library but it says i cannot because of permissions.

If both computers have ethernet ports, that is a fast and inexpensive way to connect and transfer files. You will need an ethernet cable (cost a few $$), and you have to enable file sharing on both Macs.
As for the specifics of file transferring without Migration Assistant it depends on what you want to move. Address Book for example has Export and Import funcitonality. Safari too can import and export bookmrks, etc. etc.

  • Time Capsule wireless file transfer - terribly slow until...

I've got a really strange problem with Airport and Time Capsule. Wirelessly copying a file from my MacBook 10.5.2 to Time Capsule is terribly slow - until my screen goes to sleep!
80 MB is estimated to 45 min, and only 2-3 MB is copied in two minutes. When I or Energy Saver turn the display off, the same file is copied in 35 seconds!
I discovered this by accident, but it also explains why my first backup (12 GB) looked like it would take forever, but after both me and the display went to sleep, backup was done in two hours.
Anyone else having the same problem? Anyone having the solution?
    Thanks! Joachim

    Hi Joachim,
i think it is the same for me. But only when using timemachine not when doing normal file operations. Maybe timemachine is saving bandwith while the machine is not in screen saver mode...
Your machine should not go to sleep mode when a timemachine backup is running
What is your wireless connections speed?
You can see the rate when 'ALT + clicking' on the airport symbol in the menu bar.
