Wirelessly Printing from a Macbook Pro to an HP Photosmart C4780
Hi everyone,
I've recently just purchased a Macbook Pro and an HP Photosmart C4780 printer. I was told in the Apple store that I could print documents and photos from anywhere in the house without having to plug my laptop into the printer via USB. I have plugged into the printer directly via USB and printed successfully, though I am still experiencing difficulties while trying to set this printer up to print wirelessly.
Can anybody guide my through step by step to get this working? Any help would be very much appreciated.
To clarify, I don't have an Apple router (such as Airport Extreme or anything like that).

Is your wireless network protected by a password? Does it have a name?
I have a wireless HP AIO that I connect thru my wireless router. In other words the wireless router is the hub for the printer so the three notebooks and iTouch can print to it from anywhere in the area.

Wireless Printing from the MacBook Pro
So I've read and scanned just about every post pertaining to this subject but still have not been able to print wirelessly from my shiney new MBP. I understand that appletalk is the issue and that printing using LPD is the answer, but still... nothing. Perhaps I am ******** when it comes to the technical details but I've got the mac address for my printer, I went into my D-link router and assigned a static IP addess to the printer, I saved, applied, and still can't seem to get it to work... what am I doing wrong here? Am I missing a step? I have an older HP LaserJet 4plus. It works fine when I plug into the network but just can't seem to make it work wirelessly. If anyone can help me out, it would be very much appreciated!!
I've just purchased a MacBook Pro to add to my existing PowerBook G4 and m wife's PowerBook 12". Both the older machines can see the two printers that we have attached to our Netgear router, itself wired to an Apple Extreme Airport. They can see the printers (an old HP LaserJet 2100TN and a spanking new Konica [QMS] MagicColour 2450) and can print to both without any problems. The new MacBook Pro, whilst it is accessing the network and the Internet just fine via the Airport Extreme but when I open the Print& Fax control panel in System Preferences, and ask the new machine to add the two printers it brings up the Printer Browser, the Searching for new drivers wheel does its thing and hey presto it shows up nothing. Help!
I did buy the MacBook Pro in the US rather than the UK but then the little Powerbook was purchased there too and has no problem printing wirelessly.
Any help from Apple folk reading this or other visitors to the board most gratefully received. Thanks, Piers -

I'm having a frustrating problem trying to set up the wireless printing between my Macbook Pro 13" to my HP C4780 printer. I had no problem installing and configuring this before on my previous computer, a Macbook. However, when I got my new computer (the Macbook Pro), my wireless network wont show up when I try and install the wireless capability during the printer setup. I had to buy a new router and set up a new network around the time I got my new computer, so I wonder if this has something to do with it. My wireless network is a WPA/WPA2 personal, but so was my old wireless network with the old router and I didn't have a problem installing the wireless. I thought I might not have had the most up-to-date driver for the printer software, but I do. So, i'm stuck! How do you setup a canon mp620 to print from a Macbook Pro?
How can i print from my MacBook Pro with a canon mp620 printer? I have the printer setup with a PC via USB and want to add the MacBook as a new computer and print wirelessly. I have tried the installation cd and updated drivers from canon website but it still wont work.
I have managed to get my working. Firstly, I googled the CUPS drivers for the printer and then downloaded those from canons website. I then went to print and scan in system preferences and noticed that the printer had appeared there. I believe it was those drivers that made the difference but i was fiddling for hours before that so i cant be 100% sure how i got it to work.

I am trying to add a wireless printer to my MacBook Pro. It was working properly until we had to get a new modem. I have gone through the steps with the printer customer service rep, and it was working properly for one day. When I booted up the next morning, the printer was no longer "connected". It will work if I have the printer and computer connected, but I much prefer the wireless capability. Suggestions? The printer is a Brother MFC7860DW. The other laptop in the house (Dell) can print wirelessly so I don't think it's an issue with the modem or the printer.

Hi. Is there a way to print from a MacBook pro to a non-wireless compatible printer without having a direct usb connection??? Hope that makes sense. I heard something about using a Time Capsule or air port of some sort but have no idea what that means. New to Mac. Any help v. much appreciated
The information you posted is slightly incorrect, the Airport Express does not provide a USB port for a printer, the Extreme and the TC do.

Hi can anyone help me? I am having trouble printing from my macbook pro to my brother printer. It worked fine yesterday but now its dissapeared from my options to print.
I have tried plugging in an eternet (blue) cable from the printer to the wireless router, but i dont know how to make my macbook find the wireless printer!
If your printer is like my Canon printer, you'll have to do as Bob suggests - use the Setup on the LCD panel of your printer to set up wifi. Pretty easy with my Canon PIXMA MG8220...

I can print from my macbook pro using airport express usb connected printer, however my iPad and iphone are looking for an airprint printer. Can I direct the iPad/iphone to the usb connected printer. Macbook iphone and iPad confirm a wifi connection through the airport express.
You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

Sure can.
With a document open in Pages, select to print so that you can see the print dialog as shown below.
Note that to see this view, you may need to press the Show Details button in the bottom left corner. In the image above, since I have the expanded view displayed, this button changes to Hide Details
So with the view shown, first change the Presets menu to Default Settings. Then click the Layout drop menu and select Quality & Media. Make the changes you want and then click on the Presets menu and select Save Current Settings as Preset...
At the next window, give the Preset a name and select the Only this Printer radio button and then click OK to save it. That's it.
As for the Preset that you already have, if you no longer want this preset then you can delete it via the Show Presets menu pane that you've used already. -
