Wirless Router weak

My Airport Exteme has not worked very smoothly since the July software update.
Linksys Wireless G router (with Vonage phone).
Typically, upon boot I get a message to the effect:
"none of your trusted wireless networks can be found. Would you like to join Linksys?"
Usually, after respond YES twice it connects -- but sometimes it doesn't, and quite often the signal is weak.
Any ideas.
Here's data:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 400.17 (3.90.34.0.p11)
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available
AirPort:
Interface: en1
Type: AirPort
Ethernet Address: 00:03:93:ee:d8:28

Hi Terry,
One thing that might be causing your problem is is interference. Why are you using your Linksys Wireless router, just hook the Vonage phone up to your Airport Extreme? That is the way that I have it setup at my house. Sometimes for reasons unbeknownst to me, my Airport will all of the sudden stop working or showing up. I usually go reset it if I can't get it to work. That usually fixes my problem. I am also thinking that you might be having a problem with your software. What software update are you talking about? Security Update? That was the only real significant one in July 2005. Did you download the one for 10.3.9 or the one for 10.4.1 because they both came out at the same time. I suggest upgrading to Tiger. That will probably help with your problems.
I hope that helps,
Jon
PS You probably should post this in the Airport Extreme forum not the Airport Express.

i have an iphone 4s and i can not connect to any wirless router using wifi, the only way it to put it in the freezer for a few minutes and the i only get like 5 minutes of wifi time and the the connection drops again and the phone can not even recognize the network??
    any help??!!

Seriously...and where did you get this tech tip? You do realize that all iPhone 4S's are still under warranty, although there's a very good chance your freezer trick has tripped a moisture sensor, thus voiding your warranty. Make an appointment at an Apple store, but be prepared for bad news. Good luck.

  • Wireless router weak signal to PC

    I have a BEFW11S4 Wireless router and I have qwest DSL 2wire Modem/router.
I have hooked up the system like the instructions say, However when I plug in to my PC it show a message that the signal to the PC is weak or not there. My install instruction say to use a blue ethernet cable but my router was missing it. Is that my issue?

I am running my DSL from a Q-west "2wire" modem/router. when I have the qwest modem hooked to the linksys the computer gives that message. I have also hooked the qwest modem directly to my pc and used a extra port to my wireless router. The lights on the router show internet is hooked up and the wireless is working. I have used my wireless laptop and it shows the Linksys is present but it will not connectto the internet. it also shows the qwest 2wire modem as a wireless connection.

  • Connecting a laptop to my wirless router

When I try to connect to my linksys router it fails,
My OS is XP Pro, it tells me  "the actions cannot be
completed". I'm going into setting up a new network
wirless connection, is this the right way to do this.
It also saids something about using a flash drive to
load info onto, I tried this but it did not work. Also
went to another page and got enter SSID and WEP
key. Are these two the same? My WEP key is a 26
characters. I can view my wirless connections and see
mine and it show a lock beside it. I try to connect through
here, but it also fails. Any help would be great
    Thanks,
    Farris

The correct way is to view available wireless network, and try connecting to your network by typing your WEP key. If it is not working that means the WEP key you have is incorrect or you are not typing it correct. Make sure the 26 digit key only has 0-9 and A-F

  • Airport Wirless Router Linksys

have a wireless Linksys router that I put a 128 bit encryption.
It was driving me mad that when booted up in OS 9 I could not use my password.
I tried using the entire 24 character code as a password, and it works. That is how you use 128 bit encryption on a dual boot OS 9 with an air port card under OS9.
I hope this helps someone, because I searched for hours and no one had the answer.

Although there is much lacking information stated here (post), you may wish to look over the link below and the related links from there.

It helps considerably to post the Mac OS and relevent AirPort card information / software to be clear on some points. However some 3rd party devices can be of some issue if they do not use a compatable protocol with the AirPort card software.

  • I can't get the wirless router WPA secruity passphrase to match my printer any ideas

I have HP4500 all in one printer. When i run the set up on the wireless it shows the wireless connection & the password however I get a message when installing saying " The WPA secruity passphrase on the printer does not match my wireless router." Does anyone know how to fix this

I would imagine the drivers supplied with the printer will not be compatible with your existing operating system.
Download the older drivers for your OS here, and then try the install again.

  • Connecting 2 Wirless Router Wirelessly

    hi,
I am having one router WRT54G connected on the IInd Floor with the DSL and everything is working fine on this floor. But when i moved to Ground Floor then the Signal Strength is Very Low.
Now i am planning to buy one more  WRT54G and will connect on the Ground Floor, Can Any One tell me how to configure these two Routers Wirelessly so than i can internet as well as file sharing.
    regards
    Mushy

I can't really give you buying advice. It depends on what you want to do.
I recommend to wire the devices whenever possible.
If you want ease of setup without worrying about 3rd party firmware you could get a WAP54G. The WAP links wireless to the router, extends wireless coverage and allows you to wire computer to it, if necessary. It is versatile to use in different scenarios in case you later decide to setup the whole network differently. WAPs are more expensive though.
You could simply get a wireless repeater (I think the Linksys WRE "range extender" are that). It is a specialized device to pick up a wireless signal and simply repeat it. It extends wireless coverage.
You could also get a high gain antenna for your current router. Maybe with the high gain antenna the coverage is sufficient.
You could get a WRT54GL router. For those you should be able to use a 3rd party firmware. With 3rd party firmware you can use the WRT54GL like a WAP. But it is not standard Linksys firmware anymore and I have mentioned the warranty issues already.
I cannot tell you which of these options would be the best for you.

  • Constant Problems With Linksys Wirless Router

Ever since I bought this Linksys Wireless Router it's been the same ordeal. At certain times, depending on what websites I visit, it will knock me right off the internet and I can't get back on unless I restart my computer. It is so aggravating and annoying and takes like 10 minutes to restart each time. I was assured that the Linksys Wireless Router I bought was compatible with Vista. I've had this same problem ever since I bought it. I've talked to tons of technical support staff and none of them know anything. They all give me a different reason. They tell me I need to download new drivers or the latest version or whatever else, but nothing works. The same problem persists. One thing I have learned is that I get knocked off by going on specific websites. So, in order to use the Internet, I must avoid these known websites that cause me to get knocked off the Internet. I can try and reconnect, but it always says that no network connections are available afterwards, and I must restart my whole computer to get back on the Internet. I am perfectly fine going on these known websites on my other computer that has the actual modem/router hook up. Anyone know why this happens and if there's anyway to fix this? If not I am just going buy me a whole new router/modem cause I am tired of this crap. Thanks, Blake

Change the MTU size on the router to 1300 ... Also reset the browser security settings ....
You can also forward ports 25-27 & 443-447 ... to ensure that secure sites should open ....

  • Wirless Router and Bellsouth DSL Problems

    Hi,
I purchased the wrt54gx2 router and I have Bellsouth DSL service.  I am not very knowledgable about networks and wireless but I purchased this several months ago and I have had several friends take a look and as well as placed calls to Linksys and Bellsouth and can not get this thing to work...its becoming very frustrating.  I have a Dell PC with XP that is connected to a Westell modem and can access the internet with no problem however I go through the set up procedure and connect the PC to the WRT54 wich goes to the Westell and No internet through my PC.  My hope is to have my PC as a base and use my laptop to roam the house.
My friend that has cable ISP took my WRT54 to his house and pluged it in and was up and running to his laptop in less than 5 minutes.
There is obviously some problem between the modem and router.  I have seen talk about PPPoE, Bridge Ethernet, checkin IP address, etc, etc.
Anyone having a similar problem or can anyone please help with some advice??
    PLLLeeease!!!

There isn't usually a problem with a Bellsouth DSL... hmmm anyway in your case, how do you log in to the internet through your modem? Do you log in or do you just connect and plug and it goes? Anyway try going to start--control panel---network connections... what items are listed here?

  • How do I get my iMac AirPort to only lock onto my wirless router and not others?

Everytime I power up my iMac I have to use the AirPort drop down menu to select my Wi-Fi network from a long list.
Is there a way to set my Air Port Preferences so that it always only picks up my Wi-Fi signal automatically?
Saving me the time form always having to select it....
    Please advise

In System Prefs -> Network -> Advanced Tab see if your network is at the top of the list. If not, click and drag it there.

  • Security On Wirless Router

Question?  By enabling security (mac address connection), will that affect a connection coming it to a camera system set for for viewing?  I enabled the mac address filter and could not come in and see the cameras, but once disabled I was able to.  Any thoughts?

Wireless access can be filtered by using the MAC addresses of the wireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You can either permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to your wireless network. If your Camera is Wireless and if you select Permit it will wireless connectivity to the wireless computers whose MAC addresses appear on  the MAC Filter List...If you have entered the MAC Address of your Wireless Camera then it will be permitted for wireless access else it will be prevented...
If you select Prevent and you did not enter the MAC Address of your Wireless Camera then it will have no effect on Camera...

  • Wirless Router other than Airport

I am getting DSL this week and I was wondering if there is a better and/or cheaper option than the Airport? I have a Powerbook G4 with a 3rd party wireless card and a Mac G4 Tower.
    Thanks for your help!
    Dave

I also agree with Magpie and Donald, Airport Express or Extreme well worth the little extra cost.
Airport Express comes with Airtunes ( stream music from your computer to your stereo or powered speakers. )
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/specs.html
Airport Extreme can handle 50 clients while the Express is for 15 or less.
    http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/specs.html
other then Airtunes and the number of clients ( personal computers ) they are both about the same.
I hope we swayed your decision......

  • Wirless AP and Router

guys just wanted to know whats the main difference between....wirless router and wirless access point.....like dlink which u get for 100$ and cisco aironet........plz help

The wireless router -dlink etc..is a cable/dsl router with an AP stuck to it. There are not many settings you can play with like power levels etc. This is what you get grandma so she has a firewall and NAT capability to keep some of the bastages, and also an AP so she can use her new laptop she got for christmas because you love her so much.
A Cisco or other enterprise device is exactly that. Designed to work in an enterprise. It has bells and whistles you haven't even thought of.
    Although this link:
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php
is for a third party firmware that allows dlink et. al. to have very good capabilities they didn't come with...
I cannot attest to it but many good friends swear by it for their personal use.
