Wish: File::Save As instead of Export

I wished Apple would improve the usability of the entire iWork'08 suite by elminating the File::Export menu item and instead put a combo box containing all available formats in the File::Save As dialog. File::Export doesn't even have a keyboard shortcut. What do you guys think?

I guess it's just something we'll have to agree to disagree on. I know you like Pages for what it is & don't want/insist that it be Word, but I've seen so many posts where it seems that is what the user wants.
I've always said it is a good idea to save a document in the native format of the program you're working with & save as/export to the other file type so that if anything goes wrong in the exporting process you have the original to fall back on. There have been a lot of posts recently from those who have had Pages crash or get an error when exporting as Word. If they don't have a saved copy of the document in Pages format, they could be "up a creek without a paddle."

  • Wish to save export setting of H.264 from Final Cut Pro

I am using the quicktime conversion pull-down menu in FCP to create H.264 or MPEG-4 files with certain settings for Vimeo. I wish to save my settings for export rather to avoid having to re-enter them next time. The most recent settings option is not sufficient for me as I have a couple different sets of settings. In the quicktime conversion menu I do not have the option to save my settings like I do in the export quicktime movie pulldown.
Is my solution using compressor? If so, do I then have to use APak to compress the audio?
    Thank You.

You can build custom presets in Compressor and use those.
The procedure is quite straightforward and covered in the Compressor user manual.
do I then have to use APak to compress the audio
No, you can let Compressor handle the audio too.

  • Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File Save.

I am using Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and I was using Adobe Reader version 9. In the past, I've always been able to print to file using the File -> Print dialogue but all of a sudden it stopped working. I read somewhere that installing the latest version of Adobe Reader (version 11) would remove the old printer, so I did so. It took me about an hour on version 11 to even find the pdf print to file option, but I am getting the same message. For what it's worth, when I try print to file from Microsoft Word, I have no problem. I have no idea why things changed all of a sudden, but does anyone have any idea how I can get this working again?

I checked with Adobe.  No luck.
Allow me to clarify my problem:
I have Adobe Reader XI. I also use a Mac--imac and a MacBook Pro.   My adobe was updated on 12/24.  Prior to that point, I could open my print dialogue box and there was a PDF tab on the bottom left.  In the drop down menu there were many choices, including but not limited to Open in PDF Preview, Print PDF, Save PDF, email PDF.  If I selected one page of 30 pages from a document saved in Adobe, I could extract just that one page and save it or email it, without having to send the entire document.   After the update, when I open a PDF file using ADOBE READER XI, and then open the print dialogue box, and follow those same steps, I get the message "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save."   My question is why is this feature now unavailable and is there a way to fix it?
The answer I got from Adobe was that Adobe never had this function, so it must have been via my print or preview programs..which are apple.  Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thank you.

  • Message error: "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File Save."

I have 2 problems creating a .ps file.
As i know, there are 2 ways of creating a Postcript file from a PDF.
The first is from the Print monitor. I go through menu File/Page Setup i give the exact dimensions from my spreaded pages and after that i go to Print and when this window opens,
i go down and left and i open the pop-up menu on"PDF" and i choose "Save PDF as Postscript"
There is where i get the above error message :
"Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save."
And the second scenario, i get an equal problem.
If i go to Page setup and give the right dimensions of my spreaded document, after that i go to the File/Save as command, there is choose from the bottom pop-up menu, the option at Format: Postscript
If i do that i get the following message:
"The document could not be saved. An internal error occured."
What is wrong with all this?
    Can anyone help me out?

  • File save vs. File export

What is the main difference between these 2 options? I am having this issue...open movie in quicktime, select view > half size, then file > save.
I then load the movie into premiere for editing and it comes in half size. Premiere thinks the movie is half size. However, if I do view > half size, then file > export and then bring it into premiere, it is the correct full size.
At first I thought it was premiere, but i'm starting to think that there is some real difference in file > save as apposed to file > export. Can anyone duplicate this problem or know exactly why this happens?

  • After purchasing the Export PDF Online software when I attempt to perform a "File/Save As" when viewing a document on the web it locks up windows explorer.  I receive "FIle Save As - Not Responding"

After purchasing the Export PDF Online software when I attempt to perform a "File/Save As" when viewing a document on the web it locks up windows explorer.  I receive "FIle Save As - Not Responding"

I think you may be correct.  It is coincidental with my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10.
    I have installed IE 11 (11.0.9600.17690)
It may be an Adobe Reader problem in that the "tools/file save as" dialog is completely empty. No local directories are displayed for saving to.   When I try to Close(X) the "File Save As" box it pops up a message box on top that says "Adobe Reader is not Responding"  It locks up all of my IE windows, not just the one with the PDF doc.
I need to go go Task Manager and stop the IE task.  All my browser windows are then closed.
That is the only way to recover from the "Adobe Reader is Not Responding" message.

  • I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?

I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?
The file has 4 artboards with webpage designs. I tried to take two of the artboards, create a separate doc with those two, and save, but the result was the same.
However, I am able to save simpler, smaller files.
I need to not lose these files and I am afraid to quit and restart and lose my unfinished work.
    Any advice?

What happens if you choose this option?

  • Export file save location

    Hi Guys,
I want to know where exactly the export file gets saved.
I have created a sample application on my personal system. It is ASO cube , i exported the application but i am not able to locate the file on the system. I would also like to know if the file saved will in which format.
I am just learning the Essbase , so any help would be great.
    regards
    Ram

    Hi Ram,
1- Enter the name of the export file. By default, the export file is given a .txt file extension. If you want to append a different extension to the file, enclose it in single quotation marks. Do not enclose the file name in double quotation marks.
2- By default, Export file is stored in the application directory (ARBORPATH\app). If you want to store the export file in a different location, specify the full path for the location.
3- To export data in parallel, specify a comma-separated list of export files. The number of threads used depends on the number of file names you specify.
    Hope it answers you.

  • In Safari how do I open a .PDF file in Preview instead of Adobe Reader?

When a pdf file opens on my computer in Safari, it opens with Adobe Reader (v. 7.0.8). Until recently, I could right-click on my mouse and and a drop-down menu would appear with the option to open the pdf file in Preview instead of Adobe. That option has now disappeared from the drop-down menu. Can anyone explain how to get back the menu option to open the pdf file in Preview? Thanks. David

How do we control whether PDF launches internal to

  • File-Save As Behaves Badly

There are really two conditions I can't solve, both related to the File:Save As... menu item in Acrobat Pro v9.1.2...
I should note that I have Acrobat Pro 9.1.2 installed, and I'm running Safari 4.0.2 (5530.19) on an MBP 2.5GHz C2D with 4GB of RAM. OS X v10.5.7 totally current.
Condition 1:  When I grab a PDF document from a web page, it opens in it own Safari Window just fine, as expected. I get the Adobe Plug-in Tool Bar as expected. So now I want to File:Save As the downloaded document that I am now looking at in my Safari window
I select File:Save As... and the expected dialog opens and the document title always defaults to 'downloadDocument' instead of the actual name of the file that I have grabbed, even if the html has passed the true file name to the browser and plug in. This means I have to retype the name of the document before I click OK. What a pain......
I cannot find a preference or other setting that would be controlling this. I've looked through the Safari Prefs and the Adobe Prefs
How do I get the default file name in the File:Save As dialog to be the name of the file I have grabbed?
Condition 2:  Assume I am grabbing a number of PDF documents in sequence this way, and I want to save them all into the same target folder on my local drive or a mounted network share point.  So I grab the first file I want, retype the name of the file because it is now called 'downloadDocument', and then navigate to the desired target location and save the file.
Now I grab the second through 'n'th PDF document in series, invoke File:Save As... again each time, and have to retype the correct name of the file each time, and then save each one.  you might think that Acrobat Pro would remember the last used target directory and open the File:Save As... dialog at that location on the target drive each time after the first time.  But no, it seems to point where ever it wishes to point.  And I can't find a preference to set.  Can't find any place to tell Acrobat Pro to always default the save to the same place as the preceding file.
So it is insult upon injury.  Not only do I have to retype the name of every file.  I also have to navigate again to the desired target storage location for each and every file I download.
This is clearly a pain, not very user friendly or efficient, and very frustrating.
    Can anyone help????
    TIA

File save as does not work that way for me, something is up. I'd suggest two things to try:
    1) What happens if you try a different user? If this works properly you most likely have some sort of preference file corruption.
    2) Use applejack or onyx to remove your system and/or user cache.

  • Is it possible to propose another default file name in ALV Excel Export?

    Hello All,
I have a problem while exporting to Excel from the WD ALV. The whole process works fine, the problem occurs when the user wants to open (without saving) multiple exported Excel documents at the same time. In this case he gets an error message, that the document with the same name has already been opened.
Therefore I have a question, is it possible to customize default file name, so that instead of 'export.xlsx' the file name will contain e.g. WD title&time (or something like that)?
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
It's the standard functionality. You actually have to enhance the standard method, which is not advisable as the same will be called in other applications as well.
So, Instead of that, hide the standard Export functionality and create a new Tool bar button, say, 'Export to Excel' and in on action of that button, use cl_wd_runtime_services=>attach_file_to_response ( and pass the file name by concatenating date/time) method to open/save the file.
Check this document to create a custom button in ALV tool bar: Creating Self-Defined Functions in WDA ALV
And, check this blog by Chris for code reference to have Export to Excel functionality: Using WD ABAP ALV export - the hacked way
    Hope this helps u,

  • File number is changed on export from lightroom

using lightroom 4.3...  when I edit a group of photos in lightroom, most of the files will only be edited in lightroom but a few will also be opend into PS6 (by right clicking > edit in>...) Once the PS edits are complete the image is saved & I return to Lightroom.  When I export the entire group of images - I set the file name to 'custom name - original file number'.  The images I edited in lightroom only - all are renamed as expected (ie wedding photo-1234, wedding photo-1235...).  The images I edited in both lightroom & photoshop receive the custom name but lose their file name (ie wedding photo-, wedding photo-1, wedding photo-2, etc.)  When viewing these PS edited images in lightroom - they do show the file #, it is only after export that the file # is lost..
Previous versions of lightroom / PS did not have this problem for me.
I wish to maintain the file names for all of the images, help?!?

Thanks Brett, yes - when I open the photo in PS, the file name has changed from i.e. _MG_5720.CR2 to _MG_5720-2. I save the image & go back to lightroom, the image is now called _MG_5720-edit.tiff.  When I export, (and in the export settings I rename to custom name - file name) the file now becomes wedding photo--.  In previous versions of the software - the file name would have exported as wedding photo-5720-edit.
Can you please explain how I can   check how the file names are being changed and see if I can make it so any changes to the name occur before numbers.
    Many thanks, Anne

  • Windows CS6 "save as" action always defaults to last save place instead of saving where action is intended to. Please help

    Hi all,
I am using CS6 64bit on a Windows 7 Enterprise machine at work. I have used Macs here for years and never had this problem but when I create an action that is designed to "save as" (because I must change the file name) a single file into a specific directory on the network Photoshop always defaults to saving into the last place I saved instead of saving into the place where the action tells it to save to. The action contains 2 saves and then a close and only the first save brings up the dialogue so we can change the name of the file. That dialogue box always contains the last save location instead of the desired location the action is intended to save to. The second save always goes to the correct place and the close works fine.
The only time this does not happen is when Photoshop is first launched. In that case when I click the action it always tries to save into the original folder on the network where I opened the file from.
I have already unchecked the box in preferences for "save as to original folder" and do not know what else to try.
Previously on Macs I have never experienced this issue at all. I have been opening files on my network and saving them to other network directories for years over many different versions of Photoshop on a Mac and not once have I had an issue. Is it a PC thing? Is there something else I can try? I need to deploy these PC's to employees and can not do so unless this action works as we process high volumes of images and do not have the time to navigate manually to each directory we must save in.

Welcome to the club! I hate that but live with it.
When I download from the camera, Photoshop Bridge generates a folder according to the date shot, say 20141212. The images then are 20141212_1 to 20141212_xxx; whatever the final count is from the download. But let's say I rename the image or perhaps have a Photomerge of several frames. Then the connection is lost and Photoshop reverts to the last folder before the current one. So one has to watch to steer that "Save As" to the one you want, in this case 20141212. However, after that occurs, subsequent Saves will go to folder, 20141212. (because it is now the last one)
The principle I follow is that if the folder with the images is new, I am careful with "Save As" if the file I am saving is not directly connected with that folder"s numbering system.

  • Save As Dialog Different on Exit vs. File - Save As...

I started by opening a raw file through Camera Raw into a 16 bits/channel document.  My intent was to edit it a little and save as a JPEG.
Photoshop CS5 Adobe added the ability to save a 16 bits/channel document as a JPEG, without first having to convert to 8 bits/channel.  BRAVO Adobe!  It's been great.
However that functionality is specifically missing if one tries to exit Photoshop CS5 with an unsaved document.  Quite a lot of stuff is missing from the Save dialog that pops up there, actually.  It's like some kind of minimalist version.  Why?
If I edit a 16 bits/channel document and try to exit before saving, this is the dialog it puts up:
However, File - Save As yields this dialog:
    -Noel

    Thanks for clarifying.
I understand your thinking - you're trying to watch out for the newbie user and trying not to lose his/her layers, etc.
The thing is, the way it is now makes it just a bit harder for a power-user who knows what he's doing to use Photoshop.  I've always disliked features that dumb systems down in the guise of protecting the less technical user at the expense of power.  This is not Photoshop Elements, after all!
My case in point:  I opened a raw file, Camera Raw automatically applied the settings I had chosen and which the software had stored, I downsized the opened image, and wanted to save it as a JPEG.  It had no layers or other "fancy" attributes other than the fact that I always open raw files into 16 bits/channel depth (and I wouldn't want to change THAT default).  Since I don't, as a habit, leave applications open, I thought I would just close Photoshop and save the JPEG on the way out.  The dialog shown above defaulted to PSD, as I expected, but simply didn't allow me the choice to change it to JPEG.  So instead of just being able to blaze through the work in the quickest way, I had to cancel that dialog, choose File - Save As, then exit...
Break in concentration and extra steps for the user who knows what he's doing.
It seems to me that the act of prompting him on exit with a Save As dialog is all the notification needed that document information could be lost, and the user actively changing to another (lossy) format is the user's own confirmation that he/she knows what he/she is about to do.
The more powerful Save As dialog just as it is today would be a perfect match for this.  It's a logical outgrowth of Save As A Copy, and the new feature where you're now allowing Save As JPEG directly from a 16 bit file.  By using the same dialog at the same time as making the product more powerful, you could simplify the implementation and save some future maintenance cost.
