Wish to create an interactive indesign document with moving boxes that grow when hovered over

Hey guys,
I am using indesign cs5 to create an interactive flashpage. We want to have a series of boxes floating around the page and when one of them is hovered over it increases in size.
We are able to create the floating boxes and by duplicating the boxes and grouping them, we a re able to make them grow.
However, instead of growing towards the centre of the screen they seem to grow towards and then off the edge of the page. Would anyone be able to advise me as to how i can force them to grow towards the centre or even create a boundary they cant go over

For what end product? HTML? SWF? PDF? Offset print? (I don't think so, but I might as well ask.)

Hi people,
I really need to know how you create the 'cream pop-up info text boxes' that appear when you hover your mouse over an object on a webpage (and often in any program e.g. Photoshop) for more than a second. I need to know because the logo on my website is the navigation tool used to return to the homepage. It is always found in the top left so the user can always click it to return.
The only problem is im the only one who knows that when you click my logo, you return to the homepage. I need one of these 'cream info boxes' (forgive my lack of knowledge) to appear so the user will figure it out.

I have a PDF document with 10 pages that I need to make into a book?

I received a PDF file containing 10 pages of a newsletter that needs to be turned into a book using InDesign. Is there a method that I may use to take the pages from this PDF file and make a book with 10 pages in InDesign?

for a 'simple' book:
create a new indesign document with 10 pages--uncheck facing pages in the setup dialog--set the page size, margins, bleeds--then--go to file>place>locate the PDF--check the checkbox that says 'show import options' choose 'media' from dropdown menu -- choose (pages) ALL-- double click the file name (the PDF)--this will load all 10 pages to your cursor--go to page 1--click with cursor (this will place page 1) go to page 2 and click, page 3 click, etc etc--you can go back and re-position the pages later...
note: if the plan is to print and staple the book, you will need 12 pages--and also note--the placed art will not be editable.

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

For that kind of volume and unattended operation, you want InDesign Server – which is the server/high volume edition of INDD.

How to map the elements in Indesign document with the PDF elements

I wanted to know any way of mapping elements in the InDesign document with the elements in the exported PDF document from the same InDesign document.
E.g If I have an Image X in InDesign document, Can I point out the same element in exported PDF using some mapping?

What is meant by me is, if there is a Text element in InDesign document, I should able to point out the respective PDF object.
I am looking for some way to mark a specific InDesign element and once we export the document to PDF, I want to point out to the same element in some way so that I can process it.
Requirement is simple, one user will mark some elements in the InDesign document and export it to PDF and send it to the other user. Other user will parse the PDF and extract the same element back or process it and use it.

I now have a network drive which is properly backed-up. I have copied all of the images and folder structure from the USB connected drive to this new drive.
My question is how I get all of the links in my indd files to point to the new drive. I am aware how to do it one file at a time, but is there a way of doing the same thing over many files/folders at a time?

It depends on how you organize your work. If you have one folder for images for a document, relinking one image should alert you that other missing images are in the same folder, but this assumes that images are missing. If the links window sees a clear path to the original location of the images, they aren't missing, so that won't work.
Another thing to try is to select all of the images in the links window and go to the fly-out menu and select Relink To Folder (navigate to the new folder, and you don't even have to select any images by name).
If you store your images in many different folders for the same document, you might want to either package the document to copy all of the images into one folder (you can specify to only copy images if you like) or use the fly-out in the links window (Utilities>Copy Links To…) and select or create a new images folder.

Are you sure PDF won't work? It should as what you're trying to do is pretty much what it is designed for (PDF - Portable Document Format). On a Mac anywone who receives the file should be able to see it in all its page layout glory by using the app Preview or Adobe Reader. Same on a PC, the file should be viewable as a PDF file using Adobe Reader and probably some other viewer (don't use PCs so not sure what other apps).
What application are you creating the file in and are you sure you're exporting it correctly in PDF format, fonts and images embedded?

How can I create an instance of myClass with a name that is in a variable?
Normally a new instance is defined something like:
myClass myName = new myClass ();
I want to make a method which creates instances of a certain class (ie myClass) with names that are given to the method within its arguments.
So something like:
public void myMethod(String className) {
myClass value of className = new myClass();
So if className = "FirstName" then an instance of myClass should be created with the name "Firstname", like:
myClass Firstname = new Firstname;

If I understand the tutorial correctly I should do
something like this to start the map:

and something like this to add a new instance of the
class every time:

So this would result a link between the Strings and
the instance of the Class?

JasperLevinkyep. the String is the key, and the MyClass instance is the value. to get the value out of the map, use map.get(key)

How to eliminate extra white when hovering over with a back ground color?

I just finished my menu and I notice that the hovering color is not hiding all the white. Does someone know how to eliminate extra white when hovering over with a back ground color?

You have heights on the ul, li as 36px and a line-height of the text of 35px so they are not matching up. Personally speaking I would normally recommend using padding on the links to create the height and not set the height on the ul or li elements.

How do I get rid of this. The calendar functions all right, but just have to close both of those boxes after doing any action in the calendar app.

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Back up all databefore making any changes.
Step 1
From the Calendar menu bar, select
Calendar ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts
Choose the affected account from the list on the left and uncheck the box marked
Enable this account
Then check the box again. Test.
Step 2
Make a note of the account settings, then delete the account and add it back with the same settings.
Step 3
If you can't add the account, the settings may be invalid. Verify them. How you do that depends on what kind of account it is. If it's a Google calendar and you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.
Step 4
Quit Calendar. Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a file named "Calendar Cache" selected.
Move the selected file to the Trash. There may be one or two other files in the same folder with names that begin in "Calendar Cache". If so, delete those files too.

How to paginate an Indesign document with a PDF File?

Hi everyone!
I'm a french student and i have to do a document on the movie IN TIME (2011) by Andrew Niccol, and i wanted to paginate my document in the style of the counter the characters have on their arms (0000.00.0.00.00.00).
I created it on Photoshop, as a simple Text, and i wanted to know if there was a way to paginate automatically all the document with this file (changing the numbers automatically)? Moreover, it would be perfect if it could be decreasing, like the counter, to have the last paged numbered 0000.00.0.00.00.00.... ?

This is a job for Data merge, if using the photoshop files, but I'm not seeing anything in the screen shot that looks like it must be done in Photoshop because it is impossible to do in ID, which makes life simpler, so I'd just place a text file for the page numbers.
Start in Excel and make a one-column table with your numbers in descending order. After you enter the first three, you should be able to get Excel to autofill the rest. Save as a text file.
In InDesign add a frame to the master page where you want the number to appear, and rotate as desired. Don't forget to thread them together if you put a frame on both pages in the master spread. It looks like this frame is going to need to be on a new layer above other content. Create a paragraph style with the character color and the keep options (start in next frame) to use for the numbers. Also create an object style to add the glow on the text and apply it to your master frames. You can also include the paragraph style in your object style, but you must still select it inthe Paragraph Styles panel before placing the number list or the current default paragraph style will override the object style and things won't work as planned.

Relative Hyperlinks in an Interactive InDesign Document

I'm working in an interactive document with InDesign 5.5 that export to a SWF file, and in the document I'm made buttons that link to PDF document, but the problems is that the route to documents is "absolute"...
Anybody know any solutions to do this links "relatives"?
I tried with an "URL" hyperlink and put the PDF in the same folder that the SWF exported document but doesn't open in the web browser

Ok I try to go one step beyond...
if I put in the url dialog for example
PDF/document1.pdf
and I put the documents in a folder in the same folder where the .swf
and... WORKS

Packaging an InDesign document with Placed Illustrator Files which contain PLACED GRAPHICS!

I've got an InDesign document 215 pages long. Each page contains a placed Illustrator document... and each Illustrator document contains a placed TIFF.
When I package the InDesign Document the Illustrator files are gathered into the new location, but InDesign does not gather the TIFFs. I need to get this material to the book designer, but relinking 215 pages is going to be a very risky and time consuming process--one that will have to be done OVER and OVER again as the project moves from one location to another. Can anyone recommend a solution? Why doesn't InDesign look for nested files?
Does anybody understand what I'm talking about?

The reason behind link (.psd in layers) means in the future it can be edited.
If the person receiving to package needs to edit the layers of a PSD placed in an Illustrator file, then yes you would have to manually include the layered PSDs. But if it's just a matter of ensuring full res and color managed output downstream then saving as PDF does that and preserves the links to layered files locally. So if I save as PDF trash a link and reopen the PDF in Illustrator it will look for the link:
If you save as .ai with the links embedded, the users downstream would be able to unembed and edit a flattened version of the placed art.

How to Mark an InDesign Document with an "Indelible Watermark"

For CS5 and ActionScript:
I want to mark an InDesign document I've creating via scripting in such a way that an end user can not get rid of the marking (e.g., when distributing my extension as a trial version). Ideally, I'd want "Trial Version" splashed across each page "indelibly".
How can this be done?

Try using watermark document preference:
app.activeDocument.watermarkPreferences;
There are some properties like text, font, style, rotatio, opacity...
