Wish to increase my security

I wish to make sure my computer is secure. I'm concerned that recently I noticed there is no longer a lock next to my networks name when I click on the airport icon in the menu bar. When I look at the system profiler under network>airport>status current network information it says my network security is "none". System preferences has my network listed as security: WEP password. I changed it to WPA personal but it switched back to WEP (I have no idea how). I connect to the internet with a router.
Is the reason there is no lock and my network security is listed as none is that it's my network? Why would the lock have gone away? Any insight would be very helpful.

Your are doing all that you can do.
You might want to try the 2 Wire Forum for instructions on how to change the security settings on your router if you don't already have the documentation.
At the present time, the most secure setting is +WPA2 Personal+. Be sure to select a long non-dictionary password consisting of both numbers and letters as well.

Increasing wireless security access to TC

Hi again,
My TC is currently on WPA/WPA2 Personal with 8 characters password. How can I increase wireless security - like adding MAC (or better way of doing it)? I am not expert in this so please advice step by step.

Have you tried setting the workgroup name in AirPort Utility? Select Manual Setup, then navigate to Disks > File Sharing and fill in the workgroup name of the XP machine. Make sure it's the exact name you've entered in your network settings of the XP laptop. Then you need to add the TC's IP to the list of trusted networks/zones in any firewalls you have installed on your XP machine. I had to add 10.0.1.1 to my list of trusted networks in my McAfee firewall for my machine to recognize devices connected to my TC (including other computers).
Second, you need to install Bonjour for Windows in order to install the printer on your XP laptop.
Also, if you would rather not go through the workgroup setup, there is a program called AirPort Base Station Agent (included in AirPort Utility for Windows) that loads into your taskbar and mounts and maps the TC's HDD automatically for you.

Your computer needs that calibration to accurately provide estimates as to time and percentage remaining. I have found that my times increase after the calibration and after several or more actual battery cycles. (Real cycles, not run down to zero then plug in, but use on power adapter and on battery when each is convenient.)
If you watch the time remaining all the time, you will see that it does not reduce on a regular basis; it decreases according to the current usage, apps, and functions. It may show 9 hours one minute and yet be 4.5 hours a few minutes later, and then be 7 hours yet again--- it all depends upon the current usage. I would say that average actual usage for me is seven hours. Just don't zero out the battery. Calibrate according to the directions about once a month.
Tis a lot better battery and usage than I got with the original MBA at about max three hours.

I have updated to 6.0.1 and when i try download an app for the appstore it asks me to increase my security by adding questions but when i try this it says session espired try again and it says this everytime i try to download an app HEEEEEEEEEELP PLEASE

First go to Settings > iTunes and App Stores > Tap on your Apple ID > Then Tap on Sign Out.
Go back and sign in again and see if you can update your security question.
Still having problems? I'd sign out of my Apple account, then reset your iPad before signing back in. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Whilst playing a selection from a CD I've put in my CD drive, I select Controls and then wish to increase the volume. It tells me to Press Control and then Up. Where is the Up button please ? Thank you.

It means the UP arrow on your keyboard. Depending on your keyboard, it is usually located on the right hand side of the keyboard, either with the numbers keys or below the Enter (Return) key.
However, Control/Up will simply attempt to move the slider in your iTunes programme further up. If the slider is already at the top, then those keys will have no effect, since the iTunes volume is already at maximum. Perhaps your computer's volume controls need adjusting.
In Windows XP, I believe (if I recall correctly) that the volume control is in Start/Accessories/ and either Volume or Mixer. In Windows 7, it's in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Adjust Sytem Volume.

Capital One Secured Cards

Hi all, it's been great reading up and learning so many things on this forum about getting your credit back into shape. My only wish was getting to this forum before making a couple of recent mistakes that I should have known better but you live and learn. So currently I have 2 Capital One secured cards; one is a HSBC Orchard Bank card that transitioned once Cap One bought out their credit card portfolio. My current limit on the Cap One card is $700 (initial limit was $300 until I added $400 to increase the limit late last year) and $300 on the converted Orchard Bank card. The last time I had a late payment on both accounts was back in October of last year. Since then I've made my payments on time and always more than the minimum. I know from reading in this forum these cards don't graduate and although Cap One offers the account combination link when I sign in, I think I saw someone state it doesn't work with secured cards. For the heck of it I did request a credit limit increase on both accounts and one letter I received stated that I can't initiate credit limit increases on secured cards and the other letter said one or more of my accounts was recently 60 days past due. I also spoke to a rep and asked how many Cap One cards I can have (including branded) I believe she said 5 but when I did the prequal and the Platinum came up I applied for it and then got a letter stating that I couldn't have more than 2 cards. For the Cap One veterans am I just stuck with these 2 cards with no hope of getting a larger credit line (I know there is a cap to it) or getting an unsecured card? I was figuring maybe if I closed out one of them then maybe I can reapply for an unsecured card? Thanks for your time.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Security Event Log Maximum Size

I have a customer with logging requirements on domain controllers that are exceeding the maximum log size they have configured for the security log. When they attempted to increase the maximum size of the security event log via Group Policy, the settings
did not take effect. When an attempt was made to increase the security event log manually on the domain controller via the properties of the log, an error is generated whenever the value was changed.
The Maximum Log Size specified is not valid. It is too large or too small. The Maximum Log Size will be set to the following: 196608 KB
The 196608 KB value is the value that it is currently set at. Testing on other logs, application, system, has lead to the same result.
wevtutil.exe sl security /ms:<n> produces similar results. There is no error message given but the value doesn't change when you run wevtutil.exe gl security
When viewing the registry value MaxSize under HKLM\Current Control Set\Services\EventLog\Security the change is reflected, but the log does not seem to get any larger.
What one would expect to be a two minute change in a group policy object has turned into something much more difficult. Any idea what could be causing this?

I verified that it was not another policy - the domain is pretty simple without many policies, only policies applied are:
Default Domain Policy (no event log settings)
Company Domain Policy (no event log settings)
Default Domain Controller Policy (no event logs settings)
Company Domain Controller Policy (...\Event Log\Maximum security log size 4194240 kilobytes)
The value was 196608 before, the plan was to change the group policy setting to 4194240 and I expected it to be that easy. However, the values didn't change.
4194240 is divisible by 64
Used multiple tools to try and change
Group Policy
Event Viewer
wevtutil.exe
registry editor
While some of the methods display a larger event log, the actual size of the event log still seems to be limited to 196608 kb.

WPA security changeover from WEP

I would like to increase the security level on my wireless network(air port extreme). Presently I am using WEP. What is the best NEW security level suggested and how can I most cleanly move up to, say, WPA enterprise level?

How do you know your wireless is secure?

I want to know how you know your internet is secure so no one in your neighbor hood can steal or hack my internet service. A few people in our house use a mix between ethernet cable and wireless. I don't use the wireless so i don't know how you set it up on the computer but when you use wireless for the first time to you have to enter a user name and password to access? I just want to make sure its secure. Thank you

Prevent someone from hacking your network.. simple, dont use wireless at all and turn the wireless on the router off. Thats the only option to prevent hacking. All other security settings like WEP, WPA, WPA2 will only slow a hacker down. They will not stop them.
Now if you want wireless, then your only option is to use encryption. Again this will only slow hackers down. But the chances you have a hacker next door is rather remote. Now by default the Verizon router uses WEP security. This is just the basics. Keeps honest people honest. Now if you want to increase your security, you can change the router security to WPA2. Dont worry about WPA as this is basically the same as WEP in terms of security effectiveness. WPA2 is more secure than the other two. This will keep you safe from the novices. Then as long as you dont have an advanced computer user nearby you should be fairly safe.

How to increase ims_master process number ?

Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
SunOS store1.unige.ch 5.10 Generic_138888-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise
and I would have wished to increase ims_master number of processes from 2 to 4.
Here's my channel definition in imta.cnf:

job_controller starts ims_master processes as needed per threaddepth and the incoming load. So increasing maxjobs/job_limit will not cause more ims_master processes until job_controller finds the need for them.
Also note that ims_master shuts down relatively soon after it finds there is no more work for it. So it is perfectly normal for the number of ims_master processes to fluctuate and to see "shutting down" and "starting up" messages in the "imta" log file.

Security error in flex,sockets

I'm pretty sure I know the cause of your security sandbox problem.
In the move from Flash Player 9 to 10, Adobe increased the security constraints on sockets. As you might already know, when you use HTTP to connect to a server other than the one from which your SWF was downloaded, the Flash Player requires that a Cross-Domain Policy file be served up from the root of the target server. Prior to FP10, this constraint also existed for sockets as well, but since FP10 the requirement is more stringent: if you are using sockets to connect to an "un-trusted" server, then you will still need a Cross-Domain Policy file, however that policy file must also be served up through sockets.
In other words, you will need to set up and run a socket server on the server you are connecting to, in order to serve up the appropriate XML document through port 843 (by default). This socket server can be implemented in any number of ways, but I use a Java socket server that Thomas over at LessRain has posted on their blog. Bug in wls1036_generic.jar Cannot uncheck "registier for Security Update"

Hello,
I downloaded the wls1036_generic.jar from the Oracle Service Bus site. I got the gui running, and got to the part where it asks if you what security updates. I am just testing, so I usually uncheck it. It gives the usual verbiage, but when I click no (I do not want security updates), the checkbox is still checked. Cannot proceed!
Also, what gives? The generic downloaded from the SERVICE BUS page does not contain OEPE??????

Regarding the issue with the wls1036_generic.jar, I have seen this occur with the wls1034_generic.jar, wls1035_generic.jar and wls1036_generic.jar. Fortunately, this is easy to work around. I assume you are referring to the page in the WebLogic installer where it asks for an MOS (My Oracle Support) username. If this is the case and you do not wish to receive the security updates from MOS, all you need to do is try to uncheck the box (the warning window will appear which you can click Yes). Although the check box shows that it is checked, it acts like it is unchecked. If you click on Next, two warning windows will appear asking the same thing as the first window. Click Yes on those. You may then receive a "Connection failed" window where it tries to connect to a proxy. In this window, place a check mark next to "I wish to remain uninformed..." and click Continue. The rest of the installer should continue as normal.

Using PKI to secure our infrastructure

We have 300 employees in our organization and now we'd like to provide them new services, but keep their devices under our control. Main questions are:
- due work activities and our job structure, a lot of employees are working at home. Some of them use our laptops (bough by our company) but some of them use private
computers. Tey're using our published service OWA and Windows PPTP VPN. How we can control both devices? NAP with dedicated certificates or should we use any other secure policy?
- similar like previous question, just move on to smartphones and tablets. How we can control mobile devices while connecting to our infrastructure? Which platform, SCCM or... ?
Please advise way when I can have a look, or technology. Prefered way is Microsoft PKI because we're using it at the moment for some secure communication.

When you say "control" what does that mean to you? Do you want to manage the asset (configuration, controls, remote wipe) or do you want to increase the security/authentication (VPN, Wireless, User/Device Authentication, etc...)
Are the computers/laptops connected to a corporate AD domain or are they a mix?
