WiSM 4.2.130 Code

Currently running 4.2.112 code on our WiSM. Wondering if it is ok to move up to 4.2.130. When doing so is there a procedure you follow with a number of AP1131s on each controller?
Since school started the other day we have been getting calls about wireless being down in certain room. A reboot of the AP solves the issue. Reading release notes for 4.2.130 but not sure if there is anything in there for this issue.
Craig

It is okay to upgrade to 4.2.130 since it has the gold stamp from Cisco. If you do the upgrade, I would suggest you move all your ap's from the WLC you with to upgrade first. Set the primary to the other WLC and disable ap fallback. You don't want the ap's to join the WLC when the upgrade is done. After the upgrade, move 6 ap's at a time by changing the primary back to the upgraded WLC. You can reset the ap an let the ap find the primary and then it will download the code. Wait for the ap to come up and then you can move onto the next 6. I have seem issues if more than 6 ap's try to join and download code at the same time. Be safe so you are not visiting ap's that got hung from the upgrade.
Also, what issues were you seeing that indicated that you need to reboot the ap?

  • Guest Access in 4.2.112/130 code

    I've just upgraded our controllers from 4.1.185 to 4.2.130 and have noticed some new settings and features for Guest access, specifically on the interfaces and the wlans. Can some one point me to an updated guide on the explanation of these new additions and the recommend setup now? Until I see an explanation on paper so as I can fully understand it, I don't want to change my current setup. i.e. Guest Lan, Ingress Interface, Egress Interface.

    Here is an even better link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a00808ed026.shtml
    the nutshell....
    "A growing number of companies recognizes the need to provide Internet access to its customers, partners, and consultants when they visit their facilities. With the new Wired Guest Access feature support on the Cisco WLAN Controllers that uses Cisco Unified Wireless Software Release 4.2.61.0 and later, IT managers can provide wired and wireless secured and controlled access to the Internet for guests on the same wireless LAN controller.
    Guest users must be allowed to connect to designated Ethernet ports and access the guest network as configured by the administrator after they complete the configured authentication methods. Wireless guest users can easily connect to the WLAN Controllers with the current guest access features. In addition, WCS, along with basic configuration and management of WLAN Controllers, provides enhanced guest user services. For customers who have already deployed or plan to deploy WLAN Controllers and WCS in their network, they can leverage the same infrastructure for wired guest access. This provides a unified wireless and wired guest access experience to the end users."

  • WLC 7.6.130, Airplay issues.

    Afternoon fella's...
    I had previously setup the Bonjour gateway and everything seemed to be running with out a hitch, but now not so much.
    In testing, on a single controller, running 7.6.130 code, I can not for the life of me get an iPad to see the AppleTV, some iDevices show an Airplay icon but don't connect, the ipad I'm working with currently does not.  The appletv is on on SSID, while the users are on another, and again this seemed to be ok.
    Now the interesting thing, to me at least, is that on Windows 7 laptop on the same SSID as the iPad, I can connect to the AppleTV just fine with AirParrot 2.
    I've stuck the iPad in the same SSID as the AppleTV as well, and again... nothing.  Is this a known issue in iOS 8.x?  On this iPad I'm running 8.1.2, but other devices have had 8.1.1 and 8.1 on it.
    The AppleTV has the latest download on it.

    Have you tried to Enable "LSS Status" ?
    I use this settings in my MDNS

  • Creating a Link with XML Files

    Hi,
    I am trying to import a XML file in a table structure following instructions from the Adobe help file (could only find a CS3 one, I am using CS4, the link to it: http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/indesign/articles/indcs3ip_xmlrules.pdf). Now the import works fine and my table is displayed correctly. My plan for this is to have XML files created from a database so when they get overwritten it will automatically update the tables in the file. While importing it I chose the "Create Link" option and I can see it in the links panel. All that seems fine. My problem is from this point if I do any changes to this file it gets added into my template along with the original with no formatting. So normally imported it looks like:
    code
    description
    unit
    price
    10000
    Product A
    Each
    5.00
    and if I edit it it then looks like this:
    5.00
    Each
    Product A
    10001
    PRICE
    UNIT
    DESCRIPTION
    CODE
    code
    description
    unit
    price
    10000
    Product A
    Each
    5.00
    And all I edited was the code value to be 10001 on the link yet it makes all these changes. Now if I edit the original XML file again it will crash Adobe CS4 and it freezes and says encountered error and closes. Does anyone have any advice on this situation? Is there a simple way to get XML tables inserted into a document that will change in the document if I edit the original file. If I have to change the XML that is fine as I can output it from the database pretty much whichever way I want.
    Here is the code for the XML file:
    <Table xmlns:aid="http://ns.adobe.com/AdobeInDesign/4.0/" aid:table="table" aid:trows="2" aid:tcols="4">
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:theader="" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">CODE</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:theader="" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="59">DESCRIPTION</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:theader="" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">UNIT</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:theader="" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">PRICE</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">10000</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">Product A</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">Each</Cell>
    <Cell aid:table="cell" aid:crows="1" aid:ccols="1" aid:ccolwidth="130">5.00</Cell>
    </Table>
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I wasn't using "Edit Original" before, but now that I do, I'm still unable to duplicate your result. When I edit and save, the results are just as one would expect. What application are you using to edit the XML? I am using Text Wrangler. What platform are you one? I've been testing this on a Mac, but could try it on Windows of that's what you are using. Also, out of curiosity, what does your XML structure look like? Here's mine:
    <Root>
      <Article>
        <Story>
          <Table xmlns:aid="http://ns.adobe.com/AdobeInDesign/4.0/" aid:table="table" aid:trows="2" aid:tcols="4">
            <Cell ..... (your cell nodes here)
          </Table>

  • All SSIDs not on all APs

    I have a customer that has an issue where an SSID is not existing on 2 APs on the same controller at 10 others. 4.2.130 code. WLAN override and AP grouping is disabled. Any idea why this SSID did not push out to the other 2 APs?

    I think we are the only 2 guys left that monitor these sites.
    Permit me to correct you on this.  We're the only 2 guys AWAKE.  He he he ... Besides, I know you are an expert in the wireless arena (among other) but if you are stumped at something, it also means I've got to pay attention because I might run into the same scenario some day.
    By the way, have you figured out how to rate posts in here?
    Yes I do.  Dan has made a Hot Doc regarding this topic.  You aren't the only one who's asking.  Here it is.

  • WiSM's Code 4.2.61.0

    Hi all and Happy New Year!
    In my effort to kick the new year off right, I have decided to upgrade my WiSM's. I really want to have 16 VLAN capability with my wireless network and so I am wanting to know if anyone has gone to the 4.2.61.0 code and if so, what issues have you run into. I have gone through the caveat list in the release notes and the list of issues is long and distinguished.
    To tell you a little about my network, I have 4 WiSM modules in two 6509 chassis in two different buildings and approximately 430 access points across 45 locations with over 1200 clients. My goal is to make things operate more smoothly and gain several more VLAN's to help break off some of our more chatty devices.
    Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

    Thanks Mark and Randy. I had taken the time to read alot of the posts about issues with 4.2.61.0 dating back before Dec. 1st, but I was just throwing the question out there to see what everyone elses experience was with the 4.2.61.0 code was.
    It's very hard to make the move to upgrade, but I definitely want to just for the extra 8 vlans. That will solve so many issues for me right now, and if there are no real configuration issues, then I may go ahead and roll it out. We are getting ready to install the 4th WiSM in about a week and I'm not looking forward to it.
    Thanks again for your feedback and keep me up to date if you encounter any issues.

  • 1142 AP disassociate from WISM code 7.0.116.0

    We see different 1142 APs disassociate from wisms from time to time. When it happens, we have to do shutdown and no shutdown on the switch port to bring the APs back. It just starts to happen after we upgraded wisms to code 7.0.116.0 and it only happens to c1142 APs. It does not happen very often (about 2 issues each week). Anyone see this issue as well?
    Zhenning

    Any ideas why we need to upgrade the bootstrap?
    There are some issues with the 1140.  This is why it's only this model that a boostrap is an optional install (autonomous or capwap use).  I'd recommend, if you have the time, to do so.
    Unfortunately, I have no idea how you "force" the bootstrap upgrade if you have CAPWAP/LWAP.  The only way I can think of is downgrade to autonomous, upgrade the boostrap and convert to CAPWAP/LWAP.  Long process.

  • Vlan Select and DHCP reservations on a WISM with code 7.0.116.0

    We went to using vlan select this semester and have had a couple of issues where clients (printers) wont pull their reserved ip from dhcp. From what I've read vlan select can handle static ip addresses but can it handle dhcp reservations if the current vlan selected in the round robin function is not the vlan that the ip is reserved in?

    George,
    Are you talking about a dhcp mac reservation for a device on all vlans in the bundle? If so, you can... The issue I ran into is that clients had to connect to a wireless printer and a wireless projector and they connected to it via ip address. So it became a nightmare with users. They just kept complaining that it works some days and other days it doesn't. Some devices were powered off after it was used. It would be nice if you can import a list of Mac address and specify what interface it is allowed on... That would make it easy.

  • WEB AUTH problem on WISM

    HiGuys We are facing issue in authenticating guest user via web authentication on WiSM.We have WiSM with 270 APs. We have guest ssid with web-auth enabled.we are running 4.2.061 code. I had the same basic issue and after reseaching found caveat CSCsk54969 which is a pretty close match. This caveat has been fixed in release 4.2.130. I have just upgraded to this release over the week end so to soon to tell yet.... fingers crossed...

  • WiSM Design Questions

    I am considering moving my WLAN off of the 4400 controller infrastructure and onto a WiSM architecture. I have to pretty much double my AP density for our RFid initiative.
    I have a couple questions as I am thinking this through.
    1 - Can I slot these WiSM modules into a 6500 distribution switch with other non-wireless modules in it. Our distribution 6500s serve our wired access switches. Is there a requirement to have WiSMs in their own chassis? Any best practice advice is appreciated.
    2 - Can the WiSM form EoIP tunnels and Guest Tunnels with 4400 series controllers? I have two 4402 guest anchor controllers that I would like to continue to use for our wifi guest solution. If I go to the WiSM will these need to be replaced? Or can I use them exactly as I am now by just having them form Guest Tunnels with the WiSMs.
    Thanks
    Chuck

    the controller on a design standpoint should be on the distribution layer. Access layer is OK, but it may involve some more troubleshooting when an AP can not join the controller, in my opinion. It may make sense, according to what your design is.
    It can be convenient to have wism in cat6k. I have seen setups with for example 6 WiSM blades in the same switch, that is 12 controllers.
    You can run any code you would like that is available on CCO:
    http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/PlatformList.x?sftType=Wireless+Services+Modules+%28WiSM%29+Software&mdfid=280103774&treeName=Wireless&mdfLevel=SERIES&url=null&modelName=Cisco+Catalyst+6500+Series%2F7600+Series+Wireless+Services+Module+%28WiSM%29&isPlatform=N&treeMdfId=278875243&modifmdfid=null&imname=&hybrid=Y&imst=N
    Codes from 3.2 to 6.0 are posted there. Make sure to go over the release notes, when deciding on a version of controller, as this will list new features and caveats. I dont recommend you to run anything below 4.2.130.0 code.
    As far as why to choose WiSM or WLC, there quite a few white papers and deployment guides, that will give you a good picture of the environments:
