With 10.5.7 update, closing lid doesn't sleep my MBP!

Anyone else? I can put my MBP to sleep manually (via menu), but closing the lid does nothing.

The solution was to reset the SMC and PRAM.

Assuming it was not plugged into a power source, that is what happens when your battery runs out of power.

ACPI doesn't detect closed lid until other acpi event

Basically I have the same problem as described in this thread:

No solution is posted so I bring this up again.
As said when I close the lid, acpi doesn't detect it not in the acpi.log neither with acpi_listen. When I insert the battery, acpi immediately detects the closed lid and my laptop goes in suspend as it's supposed to.
This happens with a WM + acpi + laptop-mode-tools, in Xfce and in Gnome. KDE however works fine.
The logs when I close the lid and then insert the battery:

I can tell with the lid closed because of which lights are on.
Anyway, I don't see anything interesting at all in the logs. This is so weird.
EDIT: I'm thinking that it might be conflicting kernel modules. For example I have phc-intel and acpi-cpufreq. Plus I'm using the CK kernel. So when I get home today, I'll first try removing phc-intel, then acpi-cpufreq, then I'll try stock kernel.

Charging iPhone with closed lid on mbp

I've been researching, but found nothing this specific so far. Related links:

To me, experience showed that closing the lid with the iPhone already connected works fine. I'm using a macbook pro 2009, as already hinted elsewhere. It's 13'' if that makes any difference.
But if I have the computer sleeping in the bag and want to just plug the iPhone for charging convenience, then it doesn't work. I have to remove it, open the lid, wait for charging to begin, then I can safely close, sleep, put it back on the bag, and it will be charging.
So I wonder how this is supposed to work, and if I can "fix" this behavior. Anyone knows?

I actually solved it on my own luck. Oddly enough, just need to remove and re-plug.
Here, this is a small chart:
1- Computer with lid open, up and running with energy - whatever AC or not.
normal behavior, everything as expected: plug in iPhone it starts charging.
2- Computer with closed lid, sleeping as blinking light indicate and plugged in AC power.
normal behavior, everything as expected: plug in iPhone it starts charging.
3- Computer with closed lid for long time, unplugged from AC power, no cables on it whatsoever.
plug in iPhone - nothing happens.
unplug it and plug in again in either port - it starts charging!
If you close the lid and don't wait it gets to sleep (that is, white blinking light - if you want to be sure, wait till the computer cools down, if it was hot - that's sleep mode) you'll get normal behavior right on the first plug time. The trick of plugging again seem to work always from my tests. So this is a undocumented feature that took me freaking long enough to uncover!

The apps in the multitaskbar should appear like pages on the whole display. To close them, just swipe from the bottom to the top. you can select single apps for closing, when you swipe them like you would swipe your homescreens.

Shutdown/off with closing lid

i needed a new logic board due to a spill. now everything works except my computer shutsdown every time i close the lid (like it's being unplugged or something). if i sleep and then close the lid, it's fine. but if i just close it, it doesn't sleep, it cuts off. i open the lid, hit power key and it restarts. thoughts?

Yes, I have tried all the options you mentioned, and my original post outlines reasons why each of them does not quite do the job. Indeed I might just have to stick with closing the lid (which is what I am doing now).
Let me add few explanations in regards to audio/heat.
Audio
The MacBook speakers are relatively quiet and often hard to hear. While the MB is on the side of my desk and not in front off me, I keep the volume at max and usually that is too quiet as is. With the speakers in the back and a closed lid, most of the sound energy travels away from me. An open lid serves as a sound reflector, thus more of the sound energy is projected towards me.
Heat
I noticed that the MB's fans were running much more than expected, so I did a test. While running a looong, compute intensive job, I've let it run for 10 minutes with the lid closed, and another 10 minutes with the lid open. Touching the bottom of the case, it was noticeably hotter after the 10 minutes with lid closed than with lid open.
I have also propped the two rear corners of the MB with 1cm pads, which noticeably reduced how often the fans turn on, thus improved cooling.

Now when I go to App store on my iPad it still tries to login to the App store using the old email address I had associated with the account, and naturally my password doesn't work. I can't figure out how to tell my iPad to login using the updated email address.
So in effect I'm locked out of the app store and I currently have 26 updates waiting.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my IPad to iCloud with no luck.. However I cloud happens to show the correct/updated email address.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Did you change the email for the Apple ID or did you create a new Apple ID? A new Apple ID cannot be used with content that was bought using a different Apple ID.

You must first buy Snow Leopard from Apple: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US)
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:

Advice about using the laptop with closed lid while connected to external display

Hello all HP forum members!
I have an ENVY 17 with Win8.1 64bit, a great laptop, but I need an advice about using it while connected via HDMI cable to an external display (TV).
When I play heavy 3D games, the computer produces more heat than usual (of course this is normal), but doing so with closed lid, could this harm the display in some way, as a result of the heat?

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 17 Notebook and issue with keeping the Notebook on while closing the lid. Here is a document on changing the Power option.
Control Panel - Power Options - upper left - Choose what closing the lid does.
Change Plan Settings and also check Advanced Settings. Make sure you do this for both battery and power.

MacBook (Lion) doesn't sleep even after closing lid

Is anyone experiencing this as well? I have encounter the same problem a few times now. My macbook would have it's fan keep running even when the lid is closed. Isn't it strange? I haven't had this problem before in Snow Leopard.
In snow leopard, even when the fan is running at 6200rpm, as soon as I close the lid. My macbook would be quiet almost instantly. However, with Lion my fan and processor would keep running. Anyone else? any idea?

All I had to do was turn off my "internet sharing" (System preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing (uncheck) )
and presto, no more closing lid problems.
If your internet sharing wasn't the issue then I don' t know what is.

Can the MacBook safely be used with closed lid ?

I'm wondering if the MacBook and MacBook Pro can be used safely with closed lid when connected to an external display. I know in the past there was an heat issue.

It says you can, right in the manual:
Using Your MacBook with the Display Closed
You can use your MacBook with the display closed if the computer is connected to an
external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Important: To use your MacBook with the display closed, the MacBook must be
plugged into a functioning power outlet.
To operate your computer with an external monitor attached and the display closed:
1 Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to your MacBook.
2 Connect the power adapter to the MacBook and a power outlet. Check that the power
adapter light is on.
3 Close the MacBook display to put the computer to sleep.
4 Follow the steps in the previous section to connect your MacBook to an external
display.
5 Wait a few seconds and then press any key on the external keyboard to wake the
MacBook.

You need to buy an upgrade if one is compatible with your Mac model.
PowerPC G3 Macs can only go to 10.4.11.
PowerPC G4 and G5 Macs can only go to 10.5.8.
Macs with a Core Solo or Core Duo CPU can only go to 10.6.8.
Core 2 Duo and better Macs can go to 10.7.5 or 10.8.3 depending on their model. Upgrading to either requires going through 10.6.

Allowing Mac to continue working with closed lid?

Is there any way to allow Mac to continue working and doing whatever it's been doing with a closed lid? I tried Caffeine and NoSleep but no luck and whenever I close the lid, it goes to power saving mode, disconnects me from WiFi and stops the HDMI output. As a consequence, whenever I want to download a bigger file or watch something on my TV via HDMI, the laptop has to remain ever so slightly open. Any way to fix it, be it through 3rd party apps or some terminal mumbo-jumbo?

Weak WLAN connection with closed lid!!

Hi out there,
I use this MacBook Pro (which I've got recently, nice machine btw) mostly at home driving an external monitor and with closed lid.
I notice now ,that WLAN (driven by an Airport satellite, white) is weak, tumbling and going in and out frequently. Other machines in my house, sitting much farther away, have no problems (some, but not all are pfui Windows however).
My impression is, that with a closed lid, the antenna in the Macbook is somehow "hindered", because with the lid open, its oK.
Any idea what I could do? Is there an external antenna for the book to improve reception?
I use a Dr. Bott antenna already on the Airport module.
Would it help to upgrade to 10.5 (which I would not like to do)?
