With a new MBP 13", do you think...

Hello-
I am needing a new MBP and was going to try the small 13". I have a few questions if anyone can help me. do all the 13" MBP come with the white body or white hard lid? Are they the unibody?
I am thinking about having in 8 GB of RAM which I will need later for my job. Before when I conf. a 13", the RAM option was 667 MHz and I do not think it was the DDR3. This was just a few days ago. Any feeling if this much ram in the little 13" MBP could actually be too much for the machine to deal with it effectively?
Open to any opinions. I am thinking about the 13" because I saw one at the Apple store and the size would sure be great with all the traveling I do, but I want to make sure I will not be expecting it to do or use the 8 gb ram if just the size would be a problem.
Thanks.

The 13" MBPs are all aluminum unibody machines, and they can use 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. There is also a 13" MacBook (non Pro) that has a white polycarbonate (plastic) shell, and is limited to 4 GB of DDR2 RAM.
The 13" MBP can use all 8 GB - the size of the display has no effect on that!

  • Does Office 2004 Student Teacher edition work well with our new MBP?

    Hello All,
I have an older copy of MS Office 2004 for Mac: Student/teacher. Does it run well on our new MBP's?
I also run iWork 09' but need Office for work. I have read online that the newest MS Office is not that good.
    Thanks

Hi,Office 2004 is designed for PowerPC processors, so you have to use Rossetta to have it work with the new mbp, as it is based on Intel processors, and the performance may not be very satisfactory.
Office 2008 is a Universal application and runs well on Intel Macs.

  • Using Alu Power Adapter with The new MBP Unibody 2009 ? (Both 85 Watts)

    Hi,
Can i use the Power Adapter off my Aluminium MBP 2.5 GHz,15" intel core 2 Duo (MacBookPro4,1), with the new Unibody 15" 2.66 GHz(MacBookPro5,1)?
    They are both 85 Watts.
The Power adapter for Aluminium is :
    Input : 100-240V - 1,5A 50-60Hz
    Output : 16,5-18,5V, 4,6 A Max
    Delta Eletronic
The Power Adapter for Unibody is :
    Input : 100-240V - 1,5A 50-60Hz
    Output : 18,5V 4,6A, 16,5V, 3,6A
    LiteOn Technology
    Thanks for The Lights.

    That's correct, I meant to type 85W.
Can anyone advise what the impact will be of using older 85W adapters with the new MBP's that come with a 60W adapter?
Is there a shorter battery life in the long-term, or is the new battery designed to cope the same with either of these power adapters?

  • Can I use the old MagSafe connector with the new MBP

I must say that I like the new style MagSafe connector that came with my new MBP. I would like to get an extra to leave in another room, but I'm not hot to pay $79 to Apple for one. I saw an 85 Watt old style connector on eBay for $35. Would the old style work on my new MBP? I don't want to screw it up just to save $44, but if it will work, why buy the $79 unit.
Basically, it would only be serving duty while my MBP is connected to my Time Machine.

As long as it is healthy it will work, Macaby.
Be wary of second hand units that haven't been tested though. Quite a few that haven't been well treated develop weakening of the wires at the points where they enter either the magnetic "head" or the body of the power block. At best these are likely to fail prematurely. At worst they may cause sparks to fly!
OWC sell tested second hand units for a price somewhere in between the eBay "used" price and the cost of a new one, that might be worth a look.
Be wary of cheap third party imitations. The extra few dollars is a small price to pay to avoid the catastrophic consequences that can occur if a badly made power adaptor happens to decide to start a fire!
    Cheers

  • Any Bootcamp issues with the new MBP? What about right clicking?

Tried out the new MBP at the Apple store... was wondering how Bootcamp would work with it. I use Bootcamp all the time for work so I'm interested to here the pro's and con's for the new models. Seems like the new trackpad clicking would be cause issues with the "two-finger click" in Bootcamp.

    Right clicking issues galore!
(at least in the windows side of things...)
    The 64bit windows worked fine....
The 32bit windows had many issues, even after 2 attempts. (via boot camp)
The main issue: the functions keys are locked on. Normally, I would hold down "fn" and push "f10" to mute but that doesn't work. All I have to do is hit "f10" and its muted. That is all good until I have to right-click using the "shift+f10" method since the bottom-right-of-trackpad and two-finger-clicking doesn't work whatsover. The "shift+f10" method won't work now since the fn keys are locked on. We have NO IDEA what the problem is. Could it be a driver issue...though it works fine with x64bit and OS X side of things.
Oh, and mac doesn't give support if one installs Vista and Microsoft won't give support since it isn't on a 'native' pc, so we are screwed. They have both protected themselves and blamed it on the other and the customer is left out to dry.

  • Does anyone have trouble with the new MBP unibody cover/lid falling shut?

My new MBP unibody lid will close inadvertently after a certain angle. The tension on my white Macbook was nice--I could angle the lid at ANY angle, from all the way open to almost closed, an d it would stay put. Not the MBP. As I lay in bed with this new laptop, if the sceen isn't angled far enough back it just swings shut, as if it is too heavy or the tension of the hinges isnt tight enough! Anyone else have this problem? I read somewhere that Steve Jobs "intended it to be this way." Huh.

    I have a 17" mid-07 MBP
I have the same problem. I'm currently sick in bed for the last 2 days and have been going crazy with this problem. I spent half the day looking online for some kind of clamp to keep the screen from being able to close. Basically every 3 minutes I have to push my screen back again. Every time I cough. My lid comes flying down. So annoying.

  • How is BootCamp with the new MBP 15"?

I had the previous version and there were sound and touchpad issues. Has that been cleared up at all? Any other issues? I'm thinking about getting one, but I've got to have flawless Windows 7 in BootCamp. Any other issues coming up?
    Thanks.

I have a 2008 late MBP 2.53 and a 2010 MBP i7 no issues with bootcamp win7 64bit for either. I just took the image of the 2008 and copied on to the 2010 and added a new serial no. If there's something specific you want me to test for let me know?

  • Sync with my new MBP *without* losing anything and without copying itunes

    Hi.
    Here is what I had:
iMac. iTunes library with over 10,000 songs. My iphone was synced to it.
    Now, what I have:
A new macbook pro. With iTunes. Because this is a laptop I don't want to fill it up with 10,000 songs, so I do not want to copy the whole itunes from my old imac. All I want it to sync the iphone with this one.
Any thoughts? Why is it so hard for apple to allow me to sync two itunes and keep them all synced? What law will I break?
Anyway, would appreciate some suggestions on how to make sure that my iphone copies all the current apps and settings to my MBP and then syncs with it.
    Thanks!

as long as you make sure your iTunes is authorized for both Apple ID's, yes.

  • How to synchronise my iPod touch with my new MBP without loosing all info stored in iPod?

Hey everyone!!!... I have been using my desktop iMac since 2 years already. Ever since, I synchronise it with an iPod touch 4gen (64gb).
Recently I bought an iPad and a MacBook Pro retina. I have been reading all manuals and watched some tutorials at the support center from Apple, but it does not makes it clear my following questions:
    1. How to syncronise all 4 items (iMac, MBP, iPod and iPad) with the same information stored in iTunes, Pictures and Videos???
    2. I have an Apple ID, but i can not use it with all 4 devices, right?... should I create 4 different for each and the use the iCloud account?
    3. I also bought a Time Capsule 3TB, but I do not know if this helps or not with this matter.
Thank you all in advance, I am kind of lost with this, and I have them all new in the box, and I can't hardly wait to use them properly!!!
    Best regards!!!
    Oscar.

  • Getting new gears soon, what you think.

    Hi All,
Also posted in the VIA64 forum.
I will be buying the following components very soon and would like to know if there is any problems using the other component in my old system (found in signature below).  Also what chipset/motherboard is better (VIA K8T800 Chipset or nVidia nForce3 250 Chipset)
    MSI K8N Platinum nForce3 250 (Socket 754) Motherboard.
    or
    MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (Socket 754) Motherboard.
    and
    AMD Athlon 64 3000 (Socket 754) - Retail.
    Kind Regards,
    Andrew

    Hi
The barton you are using with the KT7, is quite fast, I have the same system side by side with my AMD 64 3200+, the 3200 is 'sharper', but I wish I had gone with the 3400,, and now a 3700.   The new 940 pin CPUs are being developed to be a double processor, piggy backed I think, might be worth the wait. Soon.

  • My MacBook Pro laptop says 'service battery' and doesn't charge very well but my Mac is 5 years old. Is it worth buying a new battery or do you think I should buy a new mac?

    Hi guys,
I can only leave my MacBook Pro unplugged for an hour maximum and it never seems to fully charge. It says on the Mac to service battery - which I guess means buy a new battery.
I have had my MacBook for over 5 years now and it does get used probably every day, if not every other. If I brought a new battery would it all work normally again or is it getting old and do I need a new one?
Also, my charger seems to be playing up a bit now as well. It's seems to be temperamental when I plug it in and takes to while to light up and charge.  I've attached an image of the battery bit on my laptop as the lead seems to be fine - is this normal?
    Thanks in advance guys.

Is there any application(s) that your current Mac cannot run that only a new can?  Calculate the cost per year of your current MBP and compare that to the cost of a new battery.  Spread the battery cost over a year or two of additional operation, how do the dollar amounts compare?  If the MBP is functioning properly, I generally find it is more cost effective to keep it.
If the retina display and the SSD storage are very desirable from your perspective, then that becomes a different matter.  You are the one to make the final decision.
    Ciao.

  • New MBP : when do you install/activate bootcamp for Win 8 install?

I'm receiving my first MBP today, and aimed to install Windows 8 on a portion of about 250 GB (out of 1 TB total).
I see articles but one thing remains unclear : is there a specific ',timing'' ideal to ease the process ? Such as... shoudl it be done as soon as I launch the OS for first time, choose basic configuration ... Or it does not matter ? (Especially if I want to ''reserve'' a partition ...
On another topic: Do you guys chose ExFAT (readable by Mac OS X) or NTFS (where one need a driver such as Tuxedo to read from Mac OS X) ?
I'm going to be 80% +++ of the time under Mac OS X, - Windows is simply for specific applications. (Also considering going through Parrallel, but maybe less of a good idea since I have external gear that may be on Mac OS X drivers - then no idea what it would do when launching Win virtually....)

Yes i am (confused) and since i have downloaded the bootcamp stuff and expandef it on a usb key (thus unchecked the "download drivers from apple" in the bootcamp assistant, i am trapped.
The guide stares that if drivers failed to install, you can do it manually : by clicking the ".exe" file on the usb drive - but there is no such thing as a single ".exe" file. There are folders for "display", "blutooth" and one more.
So i'll guess that since i have downloaded it (though a 5.x version launched in February 2014) this should be latest version even though i downloaded it from a osx mountain lion mac....
Now i am stucked with an incomplete process. Windows 8 is installed. But without proper drivers (mouse works, it reads the usb key, but connect only wired ethernet (no wifi).
WOnder if i should redo everything from scratch - also considering i will probably need sone time over the phone with Microsoft since this key was used on a laptop that failed just a month after installing windows 8. Also before the huge update to 8.1....
    advices ?

  • Having problems with my new mbp hooking up to internet using a DSL motorola business modem in some rooms of my house does anyone what couldDSL MOTORDSL motorola business, having problems with my new mbp hooking up to internet using a DSL motorola business

    DSL

I previously had this problem on two 15" MBPs and fixed it on both by downing the following:
    1.) Install 10.4.6 update
2.) Delete system keychain entry and any login keychain entries for the wireless network
3.) Go back to System Preferences -> Network and re-enter the login and password for the network.
Since then they have both reconnected to the network automatically with no problem. Before that I had the same symptoms you describe.
Thanks for replying. The issue that I have to go
through with my 15" is that whenever it sleeps or I
reboot I have to turn off Airport, turn it back on,
find my wireless network and reconnect. The guy I
talked to at the Apple store told me that was normal,
but I have never had to do that with other laptops I
have owned nor do I need to do that when I boot into
XP using boot camp. <shrug> Just wondered if that was
common to all MBP's, just the 15 or just mine hehe.

  • With this new itunes I see you can download old song from other p.cs if they are listed in your itunes with a could next to them. How do I make it so I see the songs on my new itunes on a different computer?

When I first downloaded itunes 11 I saw all my old song that are on another computer listed in my itunes list on my laptop with a little cloud with an arrow in it next to the songs from my old itunes. When I updated to 11.1 the cloud icon stayed in the top part of the itunes list where you can click name, artist, all that to organize you itunes list but the songs from my old account were gone. I can't remember how, but some how I tuned the songs back on, if you will and all my old songs repaired with the clouds next to them. Well my boyfriend has the cloud smiple in his organize list thing, but no songs from his old itunes list of a different computer like me and he wants those songs back. I have been trying for hours to re-watch the itunes and icloud tutorials but because of my slow wi-fi I can't get the videos to load and they keep freezing my itunes so I can't even shut it down without restarting my laptop, so I need some help on remebering how to make the old songs show up in his itunes. Can anyone please help? By the way we both have Windows 7.

If you go to settings>music there should be a setting to show all music. Turn that off, and the cloud purchases should disappear. You may need to restart the phone to take efect
