Hello,
I am using Acrobat Pro 10 to create a fillable employment application. At the top of the main application, I want people to be able to click and be redirected to another .PDF file I have hosted on my site that they will need to fill out in addition. So, I have used the link tool, but this closes the main pdf application and opens up the new pdf in its place. This is very problematic, because it clears out all of their data in the previous main application. So, I need the link to open in a new window and not in the same one as the original form. Is this possible?
I have tried using the Java work around explained in this article: http://mythinkpond.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/opening-a-link-in-a-pdf-document-in-a-new-wind ow/
However, when I do this, and upload it to my site the link doesn't do anything. When you click above the word where the link should be, it doesn't show the finger pointer and doesn't do anything when clicked.
Any ideas? I greatly appreciate any help...

That makes sense. So I guess it looks like I have 2 options.
1. Put the JS short code in and have it open the link in a new window if the user opens it in adobe. If a google chrome user opens it in the default viewer, they wont be able to use the link at all.
2. Leave the link how it is, and it will be usable in both viewers, but will not open it in a new window.
I am sureprised that opening the link in a new window isn't just an option in Acrobat Pro. I wouldn't think you'd have to make a workaround like this.
Is there an alternative way to have a page link on the form so that people can go to another .pdf whil keeping the main one open?

I downloaded your "test.pdf" file. First I tested it on a Mac in Acrobat and the links worked fine.
Then I transferred it to my iPad and opened it in Reader 10.3. The links worked fine. When I clicked OK to the message I quoted above, they took me to the site in Safari browser.
It could be that you need to reset your iPad. Hold down the Home button and Sleep/Wake button at the same time. Hold then thru the message about turning it off, until you see the Apple logo. Then let go.
Relaunch Reader.

I should bring your attention to the fact that your user agent says you're using Firefox 3.6, not 3.0. I will remind you that Firefox 3.0 has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems.
As for your problem, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

When I try to open a link (which would automatically open in a new window), for example a larger image, or a link etc, it opens but will not load. It either refuses to load or, in the case of an image, says 'stopped'.

As I say, since I updated to 3.6.15 I am unable to open links off a webpage that should open in a new window, or even open enlarged photographs in a separate window. Either, in the case of the latter, I get the message "stopped" in the bottom of the browser window, or in the former case it either appears to begin to load the new page but then stalls. Sometimes I don't even get this, but end up with "(Untitled)" appearing in the tab label.
As you can imagine, this is causing a great deal of problems and I am keen to sort it out asap.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

When I click images or links that should automatically open in a new window, instead a new blank window opens.

For some time now and after firefox has automatically been updated a few times, I click on images or links which are supposed to open in a new window automatically. A new window opens but it is blank with no toolbars, just an adress bar with nothnig in it.

mha007, Thank you. I walked through your suggested solutions and finally disabled all add-ons and restarted them one by one. The culprit seems to be ViewSourceWith 0.8.11. Interestingly when it is enabled I had to go to TaskManager to force Firefox to quit.
Maybe this information will help others. I don't know if the cache clearing etc helped but I would suggest that others start but Bringing up Firefox in Safe Mode (hold shift when you select the icon), disable all add-ons and then start them one by one.
Of course if you have ViewSourceWith maybe you should just disable it first rather than go through the tedium of restarting each add-on separately. To get to the add-ons when it won't open from the toolbar type about:addons in the address area.

Link List Explorer NOT Opening In A New Window

Hi All,
I am trying to force my KM linklist links to open in a new window and this is proving to be a hard feat!
I have navigated to System Admin --> System Config --> Knowledge Management --> Content Management --> Configuration --> Content Management --> User Interface --> Settings --> Resource Renderer Settings --> Link List Resource Renderer.
Within this area, I have changed the Target Window Type to "blank" and "fixed" amongst other options but it is not opening the new links in a blank window.
Instead, it opens the KM folder in a new window and when I click on a link within that folder, it opens in a new portal window complete with Portal framework.
All I want is for my links to open in a new blank window with no Portal framework.
Any ideas?

It's known bug. this issue fixed in 11.1.1.7.0 (coming soon).
bug 13852263 - ACTION LINKS - NAVIGATION TO BI REPORTS DOESN'T WORK ( OPEN IN NEW WINDOW)
for now : to uncheck the "Open in New Window" checkbox and go to the detail report in the same Window.
Note: this bug has been fixed by applying the patch 14003822 (u need to get the latest patch)

Hello Everyone, I am at a loss as to how to do this. I'm not a developer, just someone who updates simple things on my website. I thought I took care of this a couple of weeks ago, but whatever I did it does open the link in a new window while opening it in the window my site is in too, which defeats the purpose. I can't find how to correct this in Help. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pamela

How can embed fonts into a PDF? Additionally, how can I make so that the PDF then opens with the embedded font?

I need to embed a standard font (such as Times New Roman) and make it so that the document opens with this font presented. I see information on embedding fonts, but nothing related to the second part of my question. Thanks.

The second part is automatic. If you manage to embed a font (for example with Preflight in Acrobat Pro), then a PDF viewer should use that. In some cases a locally installed font of the SAME NAME might take preference, which is only a difficulty if a private edited font is used.

How do I make Firefox ignore the "Use High Contrast" option in Windows?

I am taking care of a Windows XP machine which is running in "High Contrast Mode" for accessibility reasons. This display mode is enabled via the Control Panel of Windows (Accessibility Options, Display, Use High Contrast) and it has major impact on how Firefox display web pages. What I want to do is make Firefox ''ignore'' this operating system option, so web pages will be rendered "normally", but keep Windows in High Contrast Mode.
Is there any way I can make Firefox ignore this setting? I.e. run Windows in High Contrast Mode, but not Firefox?

thanks for your comments. The computer is mainly used by a visually impaired person. She doesn't do much web surfing though and doesn't really need a high contrast web browser. If however a colleague wants to help her maintain the machine or quickly wants to look up something on the web for her, then it would be great if it was possible to access web pages "unfiltered", in their regular look and feel, as designed by the web author. In fact, the High Contrast Mode significantly changes the way web pages look, and sometimes screen elements needed for navigation etc. are suppressed or rendered invisible. (This, of course, is often related to poor web design, like graphical buttons or links with the actual label as a background image or without an ALT attribute, but unfortunately, vast parts of the web are not really "accessible", so accessibility will remain an issue for the browser as well.)
Creating a separate user account certainly is an option, especially for shared machines, but it makes it more complicated to quickly jump in and give her a hand. That's why separate user accounts are not really popular here; instead, Opera was installed which does not adhere to the OS setting and therefore grants a neutral view to all web pages.
Actually, when I started investigating on that issue, I was quite surprised that there was no option for this in Firefox, not even in "about:config". After all, Firefox obviously queries the OS for the Contrast setting and then chooses to render the page this or that way, so I thought they certainly implemented a flag or something to change the behavior. It seems however there is no such flag, is there? This distinction seems to be entirely hard-wired.
I am not sure if this is the place for change requests, but if somebody stumbles upon this question, is there any chance to make this setting open to the public? Something like an option "accessibility.useoscontrastsetting" or so? This might also facilitate it to develop an add-on for on-demand switching between the two modes, and web designers could check more easily how their work looks for those with poor eyesight.

How do I make hyperlinks within a PDF (loaded on a website) open in a new window?

I dont want the user to have to click the back button to navigate back to the webpage.
When I made the button in the pdf, I used the action: Open a web link.
When viewing the file within acrobat it obviously opens the link through my browser, however, when its loaded to the site, it just opens in the same browser window.
Has anyone managed to solve this issue before?
I have trawled through many forums now and not found anything appropriate. If someone has seen a solution to this somewhere else then please do share the link.

The only way to do it, and even that doesn't always work, is by using a script. The basic code to use is:
app.launchURL("http://www.google.com", true);
The second parameter tells the browser to open the link in a new window.

When I click a link on most pages, it opens in a new window/tab with just *go to a website* in the address bar.

This happens from links in my email and links from websites. Is there a setting somewhere that I botched that hides web addresses from me?
It however, doesn't happen every time I click a link.. strangeness.

For the list of teachers there are email addresses in the right hand column, did you click on an email address?
If you did that could explain the multiple tabs being opened. What may have happened is you have the mailto protocol set to open Firefox which results in 100s of tabs opening when you click on an email address. For details on fixing that see [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], in particular the section on "Change the action for a content type". My guess is you will find mailto is set to "Use Firefox".
