With DRM should we prefer EPMA or Classic application

Hi,
We have bought DRM and now are considering whether to build an EPMA or Classic application. Are there any specific benefits of EPMA application with DRM in place. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Just out of interest how are you going move the metadata from DRM to Planning.
Though to be honest if you are managing your hierarchies in DRM I wouldn't see much advantage to then push it into EPMA to manage the hierarchies for a second time.

ODI: Load metadata into EPMA ("non-classic") Planning app

Hi all, I know about loading metadata to classic planning/essbase application, but tell me please if its possible to load metadata to non-classic planning app (I mean created in Architect (in application library) and see it in dimension library?
maybe there is some workaround for this situation

Version 11.1.1.0.0. We have successfullly used EPMA Interface Tables to manage our planning metdata. We went this direction to avoid introducting another ETL/ELT tool (ODI) into our clients infrastructure. At the time, we didn't realize that ODI was not supported for EPMA (only Classic). I'm thinking of logging an SR to confirm if this limitation will be addressed in a later version of planning. The EPMA administrators guide provided enough detail to help us get started with Interface tables. The one area that created an issue for us was how EPMA ordered the load of members in the EPMA Interface Hierarchy table. Parent members need to be loaded before children. If this ordering is not followed , you will get "Orphan" errors. We could not find a documented process to control the load order, so we need to devise a workaround. Our workaround involved creating a view against the EPMA Interface table to order the retrieval of members so that parents appeared before their children. The Oracle CONNECT BY clause works well to handle this requirement. To make this view visible to EPMA you'll need
to replace the base hierarchy table with the view by updating the EPMA IM_DIMENSION table. EX:
update IM_DIMENSION set C_HIERARCHY_TABLE_NAME = 'HS_Entity_Hierarchy_VW' where C_DIMENSION_NAME = 'Entity';
Alternate hierarchies also require separate EPMA Import profiles. Since only one set of EPMA Interface tables can be used to load a single dimension, you'll need a process that does the following for each alternate hierarchy.
1) Clear EPMA Interface Tables
2) Load EPMA Interface Tables
3) Execute EPMA Import Script
Finally, it's not clear how the I_LOAD_ID column (i.e. load id) is initialized in EPMA Interface tables (by default it's NULL). A load id is somehow assigned each time a Import profile is executed. A load id can be used (among other critiera) to clear EPMA interface tables. However, when I execute a Import profile, EPMA did not assign a load id (I_LOAD_ID was still null). Not sure if I_LOAD_ID is user assigned and is static? Again, very little documentation on how to manage the load id (what is user defined verses what is managed by EPMA).

How to play WMA files encoded with DRM on M

Hi -
I downloaded and installed the drivers, firmware and apps recommended by Creative Labs to support transferring wma files with drm to the muvo through the creative media source. However when I attempt to transfer I encounter an "Error transferring files" every time. I can play the files on my laptop (windows 2000 sp4) using the cms player, but I still cannot transfer them to the muvo. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

thanks for the quick reply. i should clarify that the files are downloaded (walmart.com) in .wma with drm. strange but i reinstalled the firmware (v.40) and out of the ten files I downloaded i was able to transfer 6 of them using cms or wmp 9.0. the remaining 4 still errored out with the same error. by trial and error i was able to figure out that by playing them locally (which acquires the license) I could then successfully transfer them. thanks for the help.

Can we add more plan type to EPMA or Classic planning App once deployed.

I could NOT disagree with any post more strongly. The manuals for DRM are written with the suppositions that: (1) you have attended a formal class and need formats and mechanics plus (2) a presupposition that you thoroughly understand the concept of hierarchies, alternate hierarchies, and many other multidimensional concepts. I have worked extensively with DRM for many client implementations and what this post says is plain "WRONG".
The manuals deal with mechanics but they do not give you the nuiances of the product or any clue of how a real solution should be architected to avoid painting yourself into a corner or creating an implementation that cannot be expanded. There are also other things besides those mentioned you need to deal with. For example, unless you plan to do everything interactively, you need to learn about mdmconnect (batch interface) and how to build the scripts and , how to write the scripts that call mdmconnect from WINDOWS or UNIX.
DRM as a self taught tool is an accident looking for a place to happen...Just my 2 cents drawn from experience of trying to cleanup and redo many many amateur done implementations.

Why should I prefer NI Compact FieldPoint controllers to Siemens S7-400 PLCs to build an automation and monitoring systems for a factory?
I am asking this because one of our clients insists to use Siemens S7-400 family of PLCs to build an automation systems and we want to convince them to use NI cFP, but we need help from NI advisors to bring more satisfying reasons to our clients in order to change their mind.
The case includes 51 AI, 15 AO, 108 DI and 51 DO.
The whole process of this chemical factory must be automated and also monitored in a control room in two touch screen monitors and a big 52" LCD panel.
Any help will be appreciated from NI advisors!

For what it's worth, I'd like to make a comment. It's difficult to compare the various PLC vendors with the NI line of products such as cFP because everyone has their various perceptions. In short for me, the NI products are far easier to program than typical PLC's because of the much greater flexibilty and the rich features found in the LabVIEW programming environment. I've programmed several PLC projects over the years that include GE Fanuc, Allen-Bradely, Omron and Siemens (Including the S7-400 series) I'll take the LabVIEW environment any day over miserable ladder logic and the other versions such as instruction lists. The customer gets a better product when it is easier to program and test. I often provide features for the customer using LabVIEW and cFP that I would never think of doing using ladder logic. The bottom line is that it's too easy to compare hardware without consideration of the software or benefits of features available.
And then there are the customer's perceptions. Just the other day I met with a potential customer who hates Siemens with a passion because he had experienced a lot hardware failures. Conversely I have other customers who will not accept NI products only because they are not familiar with them. For example, their technical personnel are familiar with Allen-Bradley and so that's what they want to stay with. I have a very large international customer who has a corporate mandate to use Seimens. It goes on...
I consider my time to be somewhat valuable, which means that I have different pricing structures that are based on what the customer wants. When a customer requires a non-NI product, I literally double the charge for programming time. Some jobs I win and some I lose. However, I'm very busy in the mean time and will continue the preference of vi's over PLC programming.

EPMA to classic

Hi Experts,
This is required on an urgent basis. I would really appreciate your help. I am not able to load metadata to HFM app. The error i get is that the current app is an EPMA application. Can i migrate from epma to classic? Also, I am not able to see 'Load metadata' under load tasks (browser view) but i can see it under 'Project View'.

Hi ,
You would not be able to load the metadata for an EPMA application from HFM client.
It would not be a good recomendation to convert an EPMA application to Classic only for loading a metadata file.
Use the C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Foundation\BPMA\EPMAFileGenerator\bin\EPMAFileGenerator.exe to convert HFM files to ADS .
Regarding how to convert EPMA to Classic ,
Run the Copy app utility and that will convert your application from EPMA to Classic.
ApplicationName_Parameters table has the information if this is BPMA or Classic application.
Verify if the APPMODE is HFM (Classic) or BPMA (EPMA) .
Raise an SR with Oracle if this is still an issue.

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?

Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

No, but you are able to create webkit browser environment and embed flash player plugin and playback protected content.

Android AIR with DRM Flash Access 3 (workflow DRM client side) ? HELP

I'm trying to manage DRM encryption for video with Flash Access 3.0 on Air for Android (or mobile device profile). I looked around and haven't found any awnser so far.
I know that Flash Player on Android devices is not supported by Adobe Flash Access, but it seems a bit different on Android AIR application, but where there is some point that I don't understand and I don't find any answer or exemples.
How to manage the DRM API workflow for Android AIR with Framework AIR?
Until now, i made a custom AS3 video playback (like StobeMediaPlayback), and i am trying to play:

Both case use DRMManager class in which you can use loadVoucher to apply the DRMContentData object from a DRM-protected media file
#3 - Flash Access 3.0 for (AIR 3.2 mobile device):
But in AIR environnement for mobile device, I don't found any informations toward a workflow for DRM Flash Access. The official documention say that the DRMManager class "it is not supported on mobile devices. You can test for support at run time using the DRMManager.isSupported property" (source: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/net/drm/DRMManage r.html ). For now, when I test my player DRMManager.isSupported, the return is "false".
Is there a way to manage a DRM player for AIR mobile without DRMManager class ? What is the right workfow for this? Or maybe, I mistaken something. I think some people have succeed with DRM implemtnation on AIR mobile...

On my side, i tested other devices like Google Nexus One (Android 2.3.4 + AIR 3.1), HTC Flyer (Android 3.1 + AIR 3.1) and Samsumg Galaxy tab 10.1 (Android 3.2+AIR 3.1), All support very well the DRMManager service.

Stream is already protected. I need a embed player into our application. The main problem is that it runs in Fullscreen DirectX mode.

It's pretty hard to do that without having the application to play around with. Most likely the easiest way to try is by UI key commands. No promises, but can you see if you can preform the entire function you want to do without using the mouse. Then write down exactly what key commands you did and post them. I'll try to write a script for that. I can't think of any other plans. Have you got any other ideas, Ric?
