With DVI, no internet

Hello, when I connect my macbook pro to my TV with mini disply to DVI cable, the laptop cannot connect to internet. When I disconnect it with TV, internet works fine again. could anyone help me out?

Now I've got the problem, that the clients got only
internet access, when the DSL-Port (ppp0) is on first
place in the hierarchy of ethernet ports in the
network-prefpane.
It's a while since I configured 2 NICs but I seem to remember that older servers (maybe 10.3?) defaulted to using the first in that list as the 'internet' connected one. However, in 10.4 this is supposed to be indicated in Server Admin NAT pane (External Network Interface). Maybe once initially configured it has difficulty changing its config files to an alternative?
This is a problem because when i open the workgroup
manager, it gets the ISP hostname instead of the
servers hostname (i.e. "Location:
hostname.isp.com/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1).
I do remember that. However, it didn't seem to have any effect on any other services - just an annoyance.
I wonder if you could 'cheat' and create a false reverse zone & PTR record in server's own DNS for your ext IP? Then, when it looks up the IP address, it finds your own server name...

  • How can I connect a laptop with DVI to an Apple LED Cinema Display 27"

I have an old Mac Book Pro 2007 and a PC laptop, both with DVI.
I simply can't find a DVI to mini display adapter.
    Can this be true?

Be careful. Make sure your laptop's DVI output is a dual-link DVI output. Otherwise it won't work correctly with the 27" through any adapter.

  • Clear enclosure 23" cinema display with DVi connector?

    Hi all,
I went to a local Mac store (Not Apple) where I was shown a supposedly 23" HD cinema display (clear enclosure) with a DVI CONNECTOR directly built in. I was under the impression that all clear enclosure versions natively came with the ADC connector and that if DVI was warranted, a converted was necessary. To my surprise, Apple apparently made two clear enclosure versions, both ADC and DVI. I've verified under the spec. area of this site. But, there were no 23" clear enclosure with DVI, except of course, the current 23 version which is the aluminum. So, was the more likely scenario that this rep. had shown me a 22 with DVI or is there really a 23 version with DVI. I was convinced at the time myself that it was a 23 clear enclosure version with a DVI connector. I saw with my own eyes that this display did not have a converter connected and it looked like the 23 as opposed to a 22. The 22 & 23 looks so similar and can be mistaken for each other. One of the ways of identifying readily is that the 22 has the power/brightness controls near the bottom right of the casing. Could someone confirm either way. Thanks!

    Hi-
I agree that the rep probably showed you a 22" DVI model. See page 8 of the 22" Cinema Display Manual for the cabling of the display.
You will see the DVI version of the Cinema Display listed in this article. The article was put out prior to the Aluminum housed ACD release.

  • Apple Cinema Display with DVI to VGA graphic adapter... HELP

A friend of mine has a PC (Windows XP based) and is using the Apple Cinema Display. Since his graphic card has both vga and dvi slot, he can plug the monitor to DVI and got it working, but when he tried to plug it into the VGA slot using DVI to VGA converter, it did not work. Is there a need of special converter or adapter?

    Hi royz86,
To run a DVI display off a VGA output, you need a rather expensive converter box. These converters vary in performance, reliablility and application possibilities and certainly don't compare with using a native DVI output.
Your friend was probably trying to use a DVI to VGA adaptor (which won't work "the other way around"). It works by grabbing the analogue signal that is included in a DVI-I output and setting up a VGA output that way. These don't work with DVI-D outputs, by the way.
    Cheers!

  • Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

    Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Email photos from iPhoto 8 with Verizon Fios internet

I am totally new to the wonderful mac world. I have a new iMac with Verizon Fios internet. When I try to automatically setup for emailing photos it tries to setup something with "incoming.yahoo....
How do I go about setting up email sharing of photos?

    mrmole
To email photos from within iPhoto you need to use one of the following applications for email:
    1. Apple's Mail (it comes with your Mac)
    2. Entourage
    3. AOL
    4. Eudora
Only these four apps allow direct emailing from within iPhoto. You make your choice in the iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General pane.
OF course, you need to set up these clients to work for email with your own email settings. Fir details on how to do that you'll ned to consult the Help on the particular app.
If you use Web-based email, you cannot email from within iPhoto. In that case you can use one, some or any of the following:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Help with Boot Camp Internet Drivers (Mac Mini 2011)

Hi all- I've come here looking for some help / advice with regards to internet access on Boot Camp I have recently installed.
I have recently bought a Mac Mini i5 2011, and installed Windows 7 onto it. When I run OSX, I can access the internet with no issues, however when in Boot Camp, I come up against problems with Broadcom drivers and being able to connect.
I have put my Snow Leopard disc (from the MBP I'm transferring from) into my superdrive, and installed the 64-bit drivers.
I've also installed Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.2 updates.
I have also tried installing the Broadcom wireless n drivers after searching for them in the list.
Plugging an ethernet cable into the router doesn't work either, and I'm beginning to run out of options to try.
    Re-installing Windows hasn't worked.
Any help will be appreciated, hope I'm not the only one to encounter this issue!

Google is your friend. An OEM DVD from another Mac is not  though would think/hope - and forget reinstalling.
Blame Apple. Goes same for audio, graphics.
Broadcom drivers search on this forum.... should find lots of folks running into issues.

  • Z97M GAMING no hdmi signal with DVI converter

My monitor has VGA/DVI only (Samsung SyncMaster 213T), I have a HDMI to DVI converter in the DVI port, this works with the HDMI out from my laptop.
Am putting together a Z97M/4790K rig. I get no signal at the monitor from the Z97M's HDMI out, if I connect it to a TV I do get a signal.
Am using the same (short) HDMI cable and adaptor with both the laptop and the new Z79M, used the same cable to connect the Z79M to the TV.
So the cable and converter are good (they work with the laptop) and the Z79M HDMI port and cable are good with the TV.
Anyone have any idea why the Z97M HDMI output wont display on my monitor? (Any bios settings to make the HDMI signal more compatable?)

Yes, to be clear, there is no GPU. When I say the Z97M's HDMI out I mean the output from the Z97M motherboard. I have tried it with a second screen, the TV (it worked).
Logically one of two things must be happening... either the Z97M's HDMI signal isn't making it through the DVI/HDMI adaptor (when the laptop's signal is), or the monitor cannot process the Z97M's HDMI signal (when it can process the laptop's).
HDMI and DVI signals are the same, so the adaptor is just a plug converter ('square plug in round hole') and unlikely to be the issue, especially as it works with the laptop.
But both the monitor and laptop (which work together with HDMI and the DVI converter) are >5 years old. The Z97M is very new and could be it's HDMI output just isn't compatable in some way with the (relatively) old monitor.
Hence am wondering (for example) if there are any Z97M bios settings which might make it talk nicely to the old monitor.
Be interested to hear if anyone has had issues (or even success!) using the HDMI out with DVI monitors, especially old Samsung SyncMasters ?

  • No Native Res with DVI/HDMI but OK with DVI/VGA cable on Loewe 32" LCD

Hi there, I am a little confused about connecting my mini to my Loewe Individual LCD TV and coudl do with some help.
I purchased a DVI to HDMI cable at enormous cost because my experience of DVI versus VGA is like night and day and I wanted to have the best possible connection to my HD TV.
The problem is that when I connect the mini with the DVI/HDMI cable the native resolution of my TV is not available. (1366x768 or thereabouts) The only resolutions to choose from are 1920 x 1080? and 1024 X 768. Using overscan on the 1024 fills the screen correctly but looks all stretched.
Instead I connected with a VGA cable and the correct resolution is automatically detected immediately and there is no problem at all.
I am a little bit confused as to why it works fine with VGA but not with DVI/HDMI. The VGA connection looks OK but why compromise when you shoudln't have to?

First of all, I am far from an expert but as I said, from my experience and after reading a LOT, HDMI cannot support 1366x768, that is why the TV goes without picture if you try. Why? I don't know.
Now, DVI is almost like VGA, both are analog, and can support 1366x768 or 1920x1200. But since you go from DVI output from the Mac Mini to the HDMI cable, screen goes black, blue, etc, res no supported.
That is why some people don't have problems with the powerbook and their HDTV's, and then they try with the DVI-HDMI adaptor (normally with the mac mini) and it's no good.
The thing is, you can get 720p, 1280x720 but with overscan, so with DisplayconfigX you go from:
    1280x720 (720p)
    128 Front Porch 10
    80 Sync 5
    200 Back Porch 15
    1688 Total 750
    to
    1240x680
    128 Front Porch 19
    80 Sync 5
    240 Back Porch 38
    1688 Total 750
for example, with this setup you get the image cut to a minimum.
As you can see the totals are in both cases 1688 750. As soon as you don't respect this totals, like in this example:
    1366x768
    28 Front Porch 5
    80 Sync 5
    40 Back Porch 15
    1514 Total 793
your TV won't be able to dispay the image. But with VGA the totals don't matter!!!!, that is why it works with one cable and not with the other.
Apple should update the Intel graphic card drivers, maybe that would help.
    Bye

  • Cant use DVI-D port with DVI-D cable from Pav 500-100a to HP W2207 monitor

I have a new Pav 500-100a factory standard with no mods.  A HP w2207 monitor.
Currently connect fine with VGA to the DVI-D port with the adapter that came with the pc.  I've setup Windows, updated to 8.1, put in my files from my old PC and all was well except video isnt that good.
I got a DVD cable form work but its a DVI-I cable.  It took 5 mins before windows comes up and then whenever the background picture changed in the theme it hung for a few seconds.  I read that I need a DVD-D cable which i purchasd today.
The packet says its a CL-DVI2M - DVI M/M 24+1 CABLE 2M.  The tech in the shop says its a good calbe and will work fine.
When connected and I power up I get teh hp logo and rolling dots then it goes blank.
I reconnect teh VGA cable and its all fine - using the VGA to DVI adapter.
I ran msconfig and turned of safe boot - restarts and comes up fine in safe mode.  I set the resolution to 1280x800 and restarted and reconnected the DVI cable - blank again.
If I put the VGA cable back in it boots fine.  The monitor has been factory reset and seens the DVI connection but Windows remains blank. Also tried booting first with no cable - connect teh DVI and the monitor remains in sleep - power reset teh monitor and still blank also shows no DVO conenction.
I fI power up with DVI connected I can get to BIOS, and i see the HP logo and dots as Win 8 starts.
I dont know what else I can try.  I have no other usable video card with DVI
    Any ideas out there?
    Pls help - Steve

    Hi Steve,
Only connect one active video cable to the monitor and do not use any adapters.
Use a flashlight and examine the DVI connector on the monitor.  Which DVI type is it?
Some of the older HP monitors have DVI issues so you might want to check with HP Support and see if you have one of those models.
An older post a long time back indicated that audio also had to be feed to the monitor (claimed by a poster).  If this is indeed true then it's a monitor design flaw. So, you could use a native HDMI cable and test out that claim.
