With headphones plugged in, ipod changes songs after 2-3 seconds

ipod has been working fine until lately. when I plug the headphones in, it will change songs after about 2-3 seconds. Also, sometimes when you power down it will come back on all by itself. Any help would be great !!!!!!

OK, so here is my problem.  I did originally download the Beta 10.10...  Apparently I kept on getting betas and was running 10.10.2 (which today is still in beta).
I did downgrade to 10.10.1 (by clicking "Download" in the App Store).
Right after the downgrade everything with syncing works perfectly.
Cheers, hope this helps someone.

  • Ipod skipping songs after a few seconds

I have been having problems with playing certain songs on my new 80GB ipod classic (all ripped from CDs, not purchased or downloaded).
The songs will skip to the next song after anything from right at the beginning of the song to 30 seconds in. If I go back, I can fast forward past the point it skips, and it will play to the end.
I have already tried deleting the songs from my library and re-importing, restoring my ipod with the latest software and checking that the stop time on the song is correct. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?
    Thanks

I have a similar issue, the only difference being that when I fast forward it will not continue to play, only again, skip to the next song.
After some research I have found that the only thing that seems to work for me is to convert my files to MP3 using the "convert to MP3" function found in iTunes. All my songs are already in MP3, but the reason this works is due to the encoding. If the encoding is unknown, it seems more often than not my iPod will skip those tracks. When you convert it to mp3 using iTunes it changes the encoding to some kind of iTunes encoding.
This makes me VERY angry. There is no way I have found to sort the items by their encoding as to convert only the problematic ones. Also, when you convert it changes the bit rate to read what ever your rip settigs are. This ***** because I plan on reripping some of my CDs that I ripped years ago at a low bit rate. If I convert to MP3 I cannot search my library to see which ones were ripped at the lower rate.
It also creates a duplicate of the audio file, which means I will not have enough space on my hard drive to compensate for over 12000 duplicated at a higher or equivilant bit rate.

I have an apple certified refurbished iPod touch 3rd generatio.  When playing the music with headphones, the music moves from song to song.  When it is on a docking station, it repeats the song.  Any ideas why or how to fix it?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • My ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song

my ipod click skips to random songs after playing 10 seconds of a song and it won't reset either, can anyone help?
    ipod click   Windows 2000

There are three possible causes of skipping music after playing a bit of the song:
    1) the music on your computer is munged
    2) the music was munged as it transferred to your iPod
    3) the iPod is 'confused'
Listen to a couple songs on your computer - the same ones that are skipping on your iPod. Are they okay? Scratch problem 1 - otherwise you have some reripping to do, assuming you haven't backed them up.
Next, reset your iPod. If the music is still skipping then the fastest fix is to use your restore/upgrade software to restore the iPod. This will erase the music and re-install the iPod's operating system which will take care of possible problems 2 and 3.
If the iPod isn't resetting - first make sure you are following the reset instructions for your iPod. There are different methods for different generations. Also, sometimes it is best to reset with the iPod plugged in. Finally, make sure you don't have the hold button set.

My Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds, i can skip to the next song but it happens again for every song..
the thing is its random, sometimes 5secs or 10 secs or at the most a whole minute
i have updated, restored, reinstalled an all that but i really dont want to send it back as im in afghanistan and would be weeks before i see it again an i use eveyday!! for running.. i thought maybe sweat had got inside it, its not the headphones i have already tried swapping them.
please help out a soldier in need?

mine is doing the same thing; I have updated it, and restored the factory settings, and it still isn't working. I use mine for running as well; I think it has something to do with the sweat. Hopefully someone posts with a fix.

  • Has Apple acknowledged the problem yet with itunes aborting preview of songs after about 10 seconds on windows 7 and if so is there an answer other than ipconfig?

Has Apple acknowledged the problem yet with itunes aborting preview of songs after about 10 seconds on windows 7 and if so is there an answer other than ipconfig?  IPConfig /flushdns doesn't help at all.  Until they fix it I will be previewing and buying my songs thru Amazon.

Doublechecking ... do you still get that if you update to iTunes 10.6.3.25 (just released today)?

  • Skipping the song after a few seconds on certain tracks

hi, I have spent hours trying to find something about this and there's nothing anywhere, this is getting really annoying.
I bought a 2g ipod nano in February and here's my problem. When i play certain songs, the Ipod will stop after a few seconds and jump to the next one. It happens always on the same song, however I can make it work if I manually skip some of the song by holding the forward button, but it still might jump to the next one after a few seconds. Anyway, I missed a good part of the song in the process and I have to do it all the time. This is annoying because on some albums, I miss up to 4 or 5 songs. I don't think that's what you expect after spending $150 on a new toy.
I noticed it does that on songs that are irregular, with breaks in them. I have restored, reset, erased the songs and replaced them, looked into all the options possible, through the forums and the internet and cant find a good answer. please help me!

    thanks for all the help.
now, went to play with those options and it doesn't change anything. I even try to set it up so it would skip the first 3 seconds of the song since it's where it stops. To no avail. just stopped at 7 seconds...
So, it's not the track, it's not the gapless option (on or off doesn't make any difference), it's not the Ipod program (reinstalled it several times). What is it then???

  • Ipod stops charging after a few seconds

My 4th gen ipod stops charging after 6-8 seconds of being plugged in. Since the battery is dead, the black screen with a red battery pops up whenever it's plugged in and then disappears after 6-8 secs or being unplugged. Both the home and power buttons are broke so I'm unable to activate in any way besides plugging it in.

    Not Charge
    - See:

    - Try another cable. The cable for 5G iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • TS2771 I can only hear sounds from my ipod touch with headphones plugged in.

I am only able to hear any sounds/music from my iTouch with the headphones plugged in to it.  I have the change with buttons selected to "on".  Am I missing something else?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings

  • Problem: syncing my iPod changes song sorting info

Most times when I plug in my 5th gen 30 GB "Classic" iPod and sync with iTunes, the "sync" action will change the "sorting" ID tags on some of my existing songs and will change the way my songs appear in iTunes.  For example, the text inside the "Sort Album" field may change to the text that is associated with the purchased music (i.e. The Who Sell Out will change to The Who Sell Out (Remastered)).
Also when I sync the music, the way my music appears to be categorized in iTunes and on the iPod may change (i.e. a song's genre will appear as Rock instead of Alternative) but the change isn't reflected in the song's information.  In fact, when I open the Get Info window, it'll show me the unchanged genre, album name, etc., and when I click OK, it changes the categorization in the iTunes back to normal.  At this point I would need to re-sync the iPod to get the correct categorization back on the iPod.
This all may sound a bit confusing, but in fact it is a but frustrating.  I have to spend time every often going back through my music to re-classify it the way I want it.  The songs that often do this (but not always) were purchased through the iTunes Store.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Are there any Preferences or other things I can change in iTunes to stop this?

I've a similar issue that appears after I change the genre from Rock to Heavy Metal for example.
When I purchase a album on iTunes I always have to change the genre as the default one is not correct. iTunes on my Macbook accepts this genre change but my iPad/iPhone do not. When I try to sync the songs after the genre update they just simply do not sync. I see on my iPhone the songs greyed out with the circle in front indicating that these have still to be synced but they never do.
This seems to have something to do with the iTunes connection on my iPhone checking the iTunes content and meta data and the data that is provided from my iTunes library which obvious does not match the genre anymore.
    SOLUTION for this is to:
backup my iPhone/iPad to my Macbook
Restore the iPhone/iPad with a fresh iOS installation
Restore the backup I made in step 1
Somehow the connection is than broken and you are able to sync the songs with their updated genre information.
This should be an easy taks as Apple should know that the genres they provide in the first place are very generic (for obviouse reasons though) and users would most likely change those for more detailed subgenres.
Needless to say that this is a major workaround and a pain in the a** as you need to do this every time when you buy a song that you change the meta data from.

  • Ipod missing songs after update

I never should have done this but when I updated my itunes recently and left auto-sync on. Plugged my ipod in, itunes takes the next 6 hours trying to update my ipod with 40 gigs of music. It was able to do it, and it shows all songs as being imported successfully when i look at my ipod library plugged in to itunes. However, when I unplug my ipod and use it, I only see one song from each album. Some albums are complete but very few. Also, now I can't restore my ipod when connected to itunes to try to reload all of my music. Any ideas?

All of my songs show up on my computer library and are all playable. I've tried restoring to factory settings and even after doing so, I encounter the same problem.
Update though: when I plug my ipod into my car, it can play all of the songs though I can't see them when scrolling through the ipod library. It seems like they're "hidden".
I never get any errors, just can't see about half of my library.

  • Headphone plug/player connection change suggestion/i

    I've recently experienced a problem:
the connector within my zen doesn't properly connect to the headphone plug anymore (probably has something to do with the connectors bending out of place)
this is the second time that i've experienced this with my zen, and i've seen this before with other headphone connectors. So this got me thinking: we have tons of different connector options, why are we still using something which is guaranteed to break down after a couple of years.
Bending the connectors back to their original position doesn't do anything but weaken the connectors. Its a temporary solution, eventually they'll break.
And thats not something you want with a expensi've product like a mp3 player.
so my thought on this whole matter is: why don't we replace the headphone connection with something like mini-usb. which doesn't bend at all. It seems much more appropriate.
And in this society of mp3 player users, who will care about the old connector? probably people will accept this change quite quickly as soon as they realize the benefit.
And i think that changing the connector won't have a lot of price impact. so the headphone prices should stay the same.
a dominant player like creative could probably make a change like this without to much trouble. Not to mention it would take some load of the replacement program which creative has. I'm currently in the process of requesting a RMA again for a minor issue, which is quite laughable actually. Especially because its a problem which could be solved quite easily.
basically i thought i would toss the idea and see if people think it has merit

Good idea, i think it'sshould gives better sound quality , imagine even better sound quality on a creative by doing this.Apple can say good bye

  • IPod Nano (2nd generation) stops playing some songs after 30-60 seconds

I purchased a 2nd generation 2 GB iPod Nano last week (03/13/07) and experienced problem with some songs stopping after 30-60 seconds and then skipping to the next song.
The songs in question were downloaded in Mp3 format from a CD and they play fine and in their entirity from the iTunes library.
I tried the 5Rs but with no success. Thinking the iPod Nano was defective, I exchanged it today (03/16/07) however, the same problem persists and with the same songs.
I tried compressing the songs but that made matters worse, i.e., the play duration shortened and/or the songs didn't play at all.
Is this an iPod Nano issue or a problem with certain songs? Given that the identical problem exists with two brand new units, I suspect the latter but I don't know what to do.
The songs are not "read only" or "origin-protected".
    Appreciate any assist.
    Thanks.

I've experienced the same problem with some songs that will start playing for few seconds but then skip to the next song. This is with songs I've ripped from CDs and transferred from an old computer. I've tried the 5 R's, repeatedly. It does not help. Is there anyway to fix this other than deleting the songs from my computer and re-downloading from CD's? I've got over 1,800 songs on my iPod and really don't want to go through each one to figure out which I need to reload.

  • How to select Thunderbolt audio with headphones plugged in?

    Hello,
I'm currently using a late 2011 MacBook Pro with a Henge dock and two Thunderbold displays. If you're not familiar with the Henge dock, it has the connectors for the MacBook at the bottom and you drop the MacBook in to place. Very convenient when coming to the office in the morning.
My biggest issue has to do with headphone audio and the Thunderbolt audio. With the Henge dock I always have the headphone cable plugged in. It's imply an extender that allows me to plug headphones in when I want to use them. I've found that with the headphones plugged in, I'm unable to select the USB audio device for either Thunderbolt display.
When selecting either Display Audio device, it simply autoselects itself back to the headphones. I can't seem to use Thunderbolt audio if headphones are plugged in. This seems like a pretty large oversight, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was just missing something.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working? If it's not possible, any workarounds that won't cause me massive amounts of pain?
    Thanks!
    //Tim

Does anyone have any suggestions for this, been quite awhile. :/

  • IPod clears songs after 8GB is used

This has happened numerous times now. Every time my new 20GB iPod (color display) is detached from my power mac g4, every song, playlist, album, and artist is cleared from the iPod.
The next time I plug the iPod into the computer, a window pops up in itunes reading "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "My iPod". Use the iPod Software Updater application to restore the iPod to factory settings."
This happens every time I use up 8 GB or more and then unplug the iPod from the computer. I'm using the USB port that was included to connect, so I wouldn't expect this to occur.
I am holding off on calling apple to see if anyone else has had this problem.

It sounds like your HD in your iPod is toasted, call apple for help!
