With iTunes 10.3. Startup now 40% longer. Why?

I just installed the new iTunes on my MacBook Air.
Startup now takes 40% longer.
It used to start up in 9 seconds from Apple logo.
Now 14 secs.
What happened, and how can it be remedied?.

Five seconds... really?
If it makes you feel better any after I updated it took an additional 7 seconds, subsequent launches took 4 and 2 extra seconds respectively. Honestly, I don't think there's much that can be done to "remedy" something like this. If it was minutes, then it would indicate a problem but a few extra seconds seems very difficult to fix and I suspect that any Apple would consider this "within spec."
Although if 5 seconds is critical to gain back, an i7 MacBook Pro with 8GB should probably be your preferred machine.
As far as restarting, it's a necessary thing if a poorly written 3rd party program decides to consume all of your RAM and wreak havoc with your OS.

I updated the phone before backing it up on iTunes, now the update wanted me to connect the phone with iTunes and it says the phones in recovery mode and it must be restored before its used with iTunes. I go to click restore and it says it will reset it to factory default and I'll lose all my current data. I have all my sons pictures and videos along with this notes. I can't lose all of this data! Please help!

You have to restore the iPod, no ifs, ands, or buts...
After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod....

  • I updated my iphone 4 with iO6.1.  I now no longer have any of my music available with iTunes match.  I've turned iTunes match on and off on my phone and on and off on my computer. I am not restoring my phone to factory settings.

I updated my iphone 4 with iO6.1.  I no longer have any music on my phone even with itunes match.  I've turned my phone off and on. I've turned my imac off and on. I've turned off imatch on my computer and turned it back on. I've turned imatch off on my phone and turned it back on.  I spent HOURS on this yesterday.  Coincidentally, two of my playlists were deleted from itunes.  So I spent  quite a bit of time recreating them only to find them missing again today. The ONLY way for me to get music on my phone is to click on the ...more tab and go to shared and pull music from my actual desktop.  Restoring my iphone is not an option.  I am completely frustrated so if anyone can help, that would be great

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • HT1349 I ordered iCloud with iTunes on my PC; now I have an iPad mini and want to sync the music

First I added iCloud with iTunes on my PC because I wanted to save the music I had purchases; I had Vista; that PC died and am now on Windows 7; Then I purchased an iPad mini and today I tried to set up both so I could sync the music purchased on iPad mini and PC previously.
However on the PC when I enter iCloud it does not have iTunes available; so I'm stuck and don't know where or how to get the music to sync between the two. It keeps asking for a serial number on the Apple product for the PC but that doesn't apply.
As a newbee I'm grateful for any answers or clues where to go. Thanks, Janet

Unless you backed up your iTunes library from the old computer and then copied it to the new computer, your iTunes library is gone now and you have to start all over again.
I'm not sure what you mean about when you entered iCloud, iTunes isn't available. You will need to explain that a little better. iCloud allows you to download the music again to your computer or to your iPad as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to purchase the music or any other iTunes content.
Since you have a new computer and no longer have the iTunes library - or so it seems from what you are saying - you need to make the new computer your syncing computer. You might want to take a look at both of these user tips to see how you can do that.

  • After synching my iPhone5 (w iOS8) with iTunes, the Usage/Storage is no longer correct

This evening, I was syncing my iPhone5 (which is running iOS8) with iTunes, and noticed that all of a sudden, my overall storage breakdown of my phone was not adding up. My phone should have 7.4 GBs of space remaining, but all of sudden it started displaying that 23.5GB was available! All of the apps, photos, music, etc., appear to have synced correctly and are present on my phone, but the iOS is no longer recognizing how much storage I actual have available.
I initially tried re-syncing items, and did not change anything.
I then fully restored my iPhone and this seemed to fix the problem.
After re-syncing all of my music, the problem did not re-appear.
After an additional sync, it appeared that a bunch of album artwork was syncing to the device, and then suddenly the problem reappeared.
This appears to be a problem with the syncing between iTunes and the iPhone in iOS8, and it's screwing up how data is recognized and counted in the total device usage.
Any help or suggestions on how to fix this?

I had restrictions on other things, but not deleting apps - but I disabled all restrictions & now I see the x again... seems silly, but oh well, as long as it worked. Thanks!

  • I'am using iPhone4 linked with iTunes on Windows7. Now my wife also gets an iPhone and will use it with iTunes on Mac. Can we use the same iTunes account? What needs to be considered (pros/cons)?

    Who can help?

Yes, you both can use the same iTunes account, and many users do this. The SLA permits the sharing of iTunes content among up to 5 family members in the same household. Make sure you first authorize your wife's computer: Store>Authorize this Computer.
However, your wife will need her own Apple ID(verifiable email address), for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. You can create an Apple ID here:

To zoom in and out, you use a pinching motion on the screen (pinch in to zoom in; pinch put to zoom out).

    Hi there seanstrvln,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue syncing recently purchased music from iTunes on your computer to your iPod nano. Take a look at the article linked below, it’ll walk you through the process of selecting the music that is synced to your iPod and displaying music that has already been synced to the device.

  • IPhone 4S not syncing with iTunes 10.7 Asking to restore

I have had my iPhone 4S for about two years, and for a long while now it has been unable to sync with iTunes. My iPhone has the latest iOS, btw, and my iTunes is also up to date.
When I plug my phone into my MacBook Pro, iTunes says that it does not recognize the device and would like me to restore it back to factory settings.
I would like to just restore it, but I do not have any backups for it on my computer. I would like to back it up first, but nowhere in iTunes does it give me the option to back it up at all. iTunes only shows the "summary" tab and does not let me see other lists (music, photos, tv shows, videos, etc). My iPhone, however, syncs fine with iPhoto and uploads my photos/videos with no problem.
Recently, the apps on my phone have been crashing. Aside from contacts, messages, and 70 photos as well as 22 videos, I do not have any other data on it. I do not have any music, and the only apps I have are Instagram and Snapchat aside from the apps that come with the phone. Under usage, it says that I have 14GB capacity and only 2.3GB available. I'm not really sure why 11GB of space is occupied because I don't have very much on my phone. But anyway, because my apps keep crashing, I wanted to factory restore my phone and just add back my messages, contacts, and my photos/videos. However, iTunes will not allow me to back up my phone.
I have tried using external apps for backing up (ex: iExplorer), and apps like iExplorer allow you to save files from your phone perfectly fine, but do not allow you to put them back onto your phone. It is just a way of externally saving your stuff onto your computer. (If anyone knows of an app that I can use to actually back up my phone, I would appreciate it! Assuming that iTunes does not come through...)
I was told a while back (when iOS 6 was released) that with iOS 6, my phone would no longer sync with iTunes because it would now be done through iCloud, but the 5GB of space on my iCloud is not enough to back up what is on my phone, so I have avoided using iCloud for a long time. I was also told that my iTunes may not be up to date enough in order to recognize my phone, but my iTunes is updated and still no success.
I have literally tried everything. I have read every forum on the internet (or at least, that's what it feels like!), and I have even gone into the Apple store (to which the lady said that my phone would no longer sync with iTunes, which I don't understand because I know people with iOS 6 and above who have had no issue syncing).
If anyone can provide some insight into my lengthy issue, I would really greatly appreciate it. I do not want to restore or change any settings until I am sure that I have my phone backed up in a way that can be retrieved and placed back.
    Thanks!
PS, can I back up my messages and put them back on my phone? I think it's a yes, but I'm just curious.

Unfortunatley 5 GB is not necessarily a lot of space.  What you should do is FIRST go into iCloud and choose what information you want turned on.
    Settings >iCloud
Here you should see different Tabs that will let you select what you want to back up on your device.  You have the option to back up the following data on your phone:
    Mail
    Contacts
    Calendars
    Reminders
    Safari
    Notes
    Passbook
    Photo Stream
    Documents & Data
    Find My iPhone
If you turn off some of these options you should free up some of your space.
Once you have backed up your device in iCloud, you can place your device in Recovery Mode in iTunes so it can be recognized.
To put phone in recovery mode:  Hold down home button and power button at top of phone at the same time.  Once you see the Apple on the device, CONTINUE to hold down the Home button.  Plug your phone into iTunes.  Do not let the Home button go until you see a message in iTunes stating that a device has been detected in recovery mode.
