With iTunes 10, Computer Still Freezing When Podcasts are Downloading
For the last several versions of iTunes, my computer has been slowing down a LOT while podcasts are downloading, especially when a new iT version is first installed. Then things improve over time. Now, with iTunes 10.1.1.4, it's horrendous. ITunes takes forever to open, and then causes my computer to become completely unresponsive. It doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard inputs, so I can't minimize it or shut it down.
Sometimes when that happens, I can't even open Task Manager, but when I can, it indicates that iTunes is using between 95 and 98% of CPU. In that circumstance, I can't even shut down iTunes with TM. After 15 or 20 minutes and all the podcasts have downloaded, I'm able to use my computer again, even with iTunes open.
It happens with all podcasts, but obviously it's more of a problem when a big pcast is downloading.
Today, I got the famous blue screen of death. All my programs had frozen and I was trying to shut down iTunes. The blue screen said "kernel data inpage error," whatever that means.
With past versions, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iT, but that has not helped.
All my other programs are working fine. Today I ran CCCleaner, AdAware, RegCure and Malware Bytes, but nothing changed. My McAfee anti-virus max scanning time is 10 seconds.
Any idea what could be going on here? Or how to begin troubleshooting this mess?

finally worked! I found this post and it has finally worked I understand it is the same as WHATHECK's answer so thanks WHATHECK!
You have to be certain that you have backed up your Library's and Playlists and that you are doing the one in the root (if like me you use a HD any old library/playlists instead of deleting them put them some were safe just incase and make sure you are re-creating the library from your root folder i.e user/music/itunes

When I try to do the updates my computer says it has ready it goes through like it is downloading them then at the end it says some of the files could not be saved to "/" files.
After your restart your Mac, click the Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update ...

my ipad mini has water damage but when I plug into wall it says to connect to itunes. When I plug into Mac nothing happens. Not even a charging sign and nothing happens with itunes. Computer doesn't recognize it's plugged in.
If moisture got inside, it may have shorted the iPad's electronics.

I am using Window Vista 32bit and have the same problem. After trying uninstall, reinstall, ccclean registry, over and over again and still cannot install itune 10.5. And finally concluded that this might be a registry corruption problem. The following steps is what I did to fix the registry isssue and get my itune 10.5 installed.
- Run Window update - and check the history file, if you see some failures in previous updates, there is something wrong with the registry.
- un-install all the apple related software (itune, safari, boujour, apple update, etc).
- For Vista 32bit, go to the following link and run the script to clean up the registry. I am not sure if other WIndow OS will work or not.

- run the Fix-it script. you have to select the Agressive mode (even thou the pop up window advise not to do this) in order to clean up the registry. When I try without checking the box, and it did not fix the problem.
- reboot PC
- Run window update. It will discover a lot of old updates that need to be installed (I suspect that the fix it script delete a lot of stuff in the registry and removed previous updates). I got 53 updates that need to install.
- run the update and wait for a longtime (mine took ~2 hours).
- reboot PC
- run cccleaner
- reboot PC
- install itune 10.5
Now it works. Hopefully other window OS has similar step to fix this. I can only say it works for me using window Vista 32bit. and so far, my PC works correctly. -
The message function on my Ipad just quit working. I was using it while in Mexico and it just quit. I have come home and synced my Ipad with Itunes and function still does not work. How do I get this function to work again?
When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

You are correct. Syncing should transfer any purchased media, including videos, from your device to your iTunes library provided your computer is authorized for the Apple ID used to make these purchases. You mentioned that you have uninstalled iTunes before, but if you didn't follow this guide exactly, uninstalling iTunes and all of its components in the order specified, it may not have been successful so you should try again: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7.

Computer completely freezes when the letter "b" is typed
Recently, our 17" Macbook (early 2008), which we bought "refurbished" from Apple two months ago, would freeze up and give the message "You need to restart..." several times a day, then there were the three nasty start up sounds after that issue. The latter was rectified with new memory, and it occasionally gives the "You need to..." message.
However - now the computer completely freezes when the letter "b" is typed. And - No - I'm not making this up. Just freezes - the "b" doesn't show up at all. Sounds like a Monty Python routine - the one about the "travel agent". What could it be - and more importantly - should I ever buy a refurbished computer again?Your refurb is covered by a warranty just like any other Apple product.
I had a refurb a few years ago and had a few minor issues with it. On the 4th trip to the "doctor's" Apple offered us a replacement and couriered a brand spanking new MBP to our doors.
The moral of this story is, Apple do care for their customers, take yours back to the shop. -

Is your "home computer" the same as your laptop or are these two different machines?

If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
See:
Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.

One approach might be to - Repair iPhoto library (but this takes hours - so try below first)
Trouble-shooting guide
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
Creating a new User-Account and log into this
This forces iMovie to create all pref. and cache files new and error free
Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
a Codec is used that doesn't work (even though iMovie and/or iDVD tries to / they fail in the end)
version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
USB-flash-memories - usually do not work
Net-work connected hard disks - usually do not work (most often not fast enough and WRONGLY FORMATTES as DOS etc)
iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie. When iMovie starts-up it first look trough this iPhoto library and if faulty it all Halt’s.
This You do by
First - close iPhoto
Secondly - on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
Thirdly - now select all five options presented
THEN - WAIT a long long time (>20 hours are not strange)
free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
Screen must be set to million-colors
Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

If you are absolutely sure that neither the sound output of the Macbook nor the sound output of VoiceOver are muted then try to reset VoiceOver.
1. Open VoiceOver Preferences.
2. From the File menu choose "Reset All VoiceOver Preferences …".
3. Click "Reset.
4. Turn VoiceOver Off and On again. (hold command and press F5 twice).
If you still don't hear anything then it could be that the main sound output of the Macbook got muted somehow. I find that I often hit the mute button on my Apple wireless keyboard without noticing. So just make sure that its not muted and also hit the "Volume Up" a few times. Its so terribly obvious I know but its also very easy to miss. Lots of people do that. -
Itunes freezes when Genius is downloading

Eric, I was having the same problem. The reason "turn off genius" is greyed out is because you cannot turn it off while it is trying to deliver results. Of course, if your "Genius" is like mine and never STOPS trying to deliver results, the option will ALWAYS be greyed out.
The root of the problem is that you are likely signed into the iTunes store. Genius uses your iTunes account to store all of its information. All you need to do is sign out of the iTunes store, and this will deter Genius from being able to store results. After a few moments, you should notice that Genius has canceled its connection, THEN you should be able to turn genius off from the Store menu.
Once this is done, you can sign back into the iTunes store without any problems. Hope this helps!
