With iTunes 11, genius syncing takes too long, how to fix?

Genius is now linked with Match and cannot be turned off separately.  How can Genius syncing be sped up?

For reporting bugs, go here:
https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/wa/signIn
you will be required to give a good bit of info as it
should be for reporting and diagnosing a bug.
If you are simply dissatisfied with iTunes 11 and its features
(or elimination of features) and also its bugginess, post here:

The former, if given sufficient info, will be sent to software
engineers.  The latter will be sent to marketing, etc.

  • ITunes sync takes too long, need overhaul

7 stages to sync an iPhone or iPad and only when is #7's progress bar fully complete and there is a looooooonnnnnnng wait does it start to copy photos, movies & music.
Is Apple taking lessons from Windows on how a progress bar is supposed to work?
I write this as I wait for some sign the phone is actually having media copied to it. I have restarted my phone, iTunes and the computer. No matter what it refuses to budge beyond 7 of 7.
    I’m on a fully loaded 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon.
    I’ve owned an iPhone 3, 4,4s,5, 5s and now a iPhone 6.
Since the very beginning, no matter what I do the syncing takes (IMHO) way too long and the visual feedback is very badly designed.
I’m no expert but I’d like to think that maybe there should be 8 or 10 stages where the copying of various media is indicated and the progress bar is indicative of the whole progress.

    Applefish...
I agree!  I have three Airport Extremes, ultimate cable modem download steaming, and Apple TV, AND IT STILL TAKES LONGER TO LOAD THAN THE MOVIE ITSELF!!! Apple needs to pay attention to its technology advancements and less about its PC gender politics.  We all respect equality, but we deserve equality of quality and Apple TV and iTunes is radically under performing.
All I wanted to do was enjoy a movie via iTunes and Apple TV...so I purchased "The Book Thief" via iTunes store...and more than two hours later... guess what...no movie... thanks for a virtually wasted evening Apple... I want my $14.99 back.
BTW, I have purchased two iMAC 27" i7 computers, an iPhone 6, an iPhone 5S, and two MacBook Air laptops, and an iPad Air 2 - 128 GB (to go with the other 5 iPads I already own)...all within the past 9 months.  Today I bought a 15" MacBook Pro... so don't tell me I'm not up to my ears in Apple...
It's time to fix this Apple TV / iTunes loading issue.  God delivered the 10 commandments in stone in less time...

  • IPad loses all charge because sync takes too long

MY daughter has not synced her iPad for ages. Now when she tries to do this it takes so long the iPad runs out of power before the sync is complete! Any idea what she can do?

well if she sync over wifi then connecting it to ac would fix it
if she sync over usb then even if many computers dont provide enough power over usb to charge
ipads then at least they should provide enough for it to hold it's charge
if yours for some reason dont you could use an ac powered usb hub

  • Latest iTunes update; iPhone sync takes a long, long time

I have a 64GB iPhone 4S, up to date with latest software.  I have iTunes running on a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows Vista 64-bit SP2; running latest update of iTunes.
I am currently doing my second iPhone sync to change out a bunch of music since the latest iTunes update.  I have tons of records, and I like to switch up the tunes quite a bit.  I love the 64GB iPhone; holds over 500 albums.
Both, the first time and now this time, the sync is taking forever.  Seriously, as I type this the sync is now past two hours and looks to be about 60% done.
Prior to this update (both iTunes and phone), the sync took maybe 20 minutes,  Nothing else has changed; same computer/operating system, no bugs or viruses.  The only thing I think it can be is this latest update to iTunes; which, by the way, dumped all my albums when the update was done.  I had to add all the folders again; that took a while and a lot of album covers were lost.  Big pain in the butt, basically.
I don't know if you Apple people are listening, but this is eroding my confidence in your brand.  Will I spring for a MacBook like I was planning?  Hmmm...

No solution - just the same problem.
My wife's 4s (iOS 7.0.2) has been hanging at syncing Contacts on iTunes 11.1 (iMac; Mountain Lion) the past several days. It never gets past "Syncing Contacts".
Doesn't anyone have any advice. I've hard re-booted her iPhone; re-booted the iMac.
We don't have this problem with either my iPhone 5 (7.0.2), her 2nd-gen iPad or her old iPot Touch.
We share the same contacts and calendars across all of these devices and the iMac.

  • After a long time with firefox running (days) it takes too long to terminate

If Firefox has been running for a long time and now consumes a lot of memory (over 1GB of RAM normally) then it takes several minutes to clean and terminate.
This process is not always CPU intensive and sometimes the amount of memory attributed to firefox even increases.
Taking 10 minutes for a computer program to terminate is appaling.

Did you opt out of the Ask Toolbar installation when you installed Foxit Reader? If not, you have it on your system now. There are compatibility problems between that app and Firefox.
Remove it by clicking the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Extensions and remove it in there.
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • New Socket takes too long / how to stop a Thread ?

    Hello to everyone,
I have a problem that I have been hunting this ol' Sun website all day for a suitable answer, and have found people who have asked this same question and not gotten answers. Finally, with but a shred of hope left, I post...
    My really short version:
A call to the Socket(InetAddress, int) constructor can take a very long time before it times out. How to limit the wait?
    My really detailed version:
I have a GUI for which the user enters comm parameters, then the program does some I/O while the user waits (but there is a Cancel button for the Impatient), then the results are displayed. Here is quick pseudocode (which, by the way, worked great before there were Sockets in this program -- only serial ports):
    Main (GUI) thread:
--> reset the stop request flag
--> calls workerThread.start(), then brings up a Cancel dialog with a Cancel button (thus going to sleep)
--> (awake by dialog closing -- dialog may have been closed by workerThread or by user)
--> set stop request flag that worker thread checks (in case he's still alive)
--> call workerThread.interrupt() (in case he's alive but asleep for some reason (???))
--> call workerThread.join() to wait for worker thread to be dead (nothing to wait for if he's dead already)
--> display worker thread's result data or "Cancelled..." information, whichever worker thread has set
    Worker thread:
--> yield (to give main thread a chance to get the Cancel Dialog showing)
--> do job, checking (every few code lines) that stop request flag is not set
--> if stop request, stop and set cancelled flag for Main thread to handle
--> if finish with no stop request, set result data for Main thread to handle
--> take down Cancel Dialog (does nothing if not still up, takes down and wakes main thread if still up)
THE PROBLEM: Worker thread's job involves doing IO, and it may need to instantiate a new Socket. If it is attempting to instantiate Socket with bad arguments, it can get stuck... The port int is hardcoded by the program, but the IPAddress must be typed by user.
If the arguments to Socket(InetAddress, int) constructor contain a valid-but-not-in-use IP address, the worker thread will get stuck in the Socket constructor for a LONG time (I observed 1m:38s). There is nothing the Main thread can do to stop this wait?
EVEN WORSE: If the user clicks the Cancel Button during this time, the dialog goes away soon/immediately, but then the GUI appears to be hanging (single-threaded look) until the long wait is over (after which the "Cancelled..." info is displayed).
MY QUESTION: Is there nothing the Main thread can do to stop this wait?
Your answers will be sincerely appreciated. Despite my hopeless attitude (see above), the folks at this forum really have yet to let me down ...

  • Quantity conversion takes too long

    Dear Gurus,
I'm having a problem with the query execution time when I convert the quantities of the materials in KGs.
I have done all the steps to set up material conversion with reference infoobject 0material and using a dynamic determination of conversion factor using central units of measurement (T006) otherwise reference infoobject.
With these settings the query takes too long to execute because of the large number of material codes. If I remove this conversion the query is executed very fast.
Any ideas? Do I have to create an index in UOM0MATE ODS? What am I missing here?
    Regards,
    Panos

    Hi Panos,
I had the same issue, but it's solved for me now. I tried the same way you did, by creating a secondary index on the active table of the DSO. The only difference is, that I included all the SID fields to the index.
Did you mark your index as unique? Also make sure, that the index really is created on the DB.
If the performance still is not getting better, check in RSRT the statistics if the unit conversion really is the problem.
    Kindly regards,
    Matthias

  • AME CS6 rendering with AE and Pr takes too long

    Hi Guys,
Need some help here. i have rendered a 30 secs mp4 video with 1920 x 1080 HD format 25 frames w/o scripting in AME for 4 hours!
Why does it take too long? I have rendered a 2 minute video with same format w/ scripting but only spare less than 30 minutes for rendering.
Im using After Effects and Premium Pro both CS6 and using Dynamic Link in AME.
What seems to be wrong in my current settings?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

This may be a waste of time, but it won't take a minute and is something you should always do whenever things go strangely wrong  ............ trash the preferences, assuming you haven't done it already.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

Agreed. I hope they allow this some time soon or iTunes Match will remain a big disappointment for me.

  • Having lagging problems with YouTube videos, it simply takes so long for the red bar to completely load and the videos frequently pause and take too long to restart playing again.

I have been having lagging problems with YouTube videos for a number of months now. It simply takes so long for the red bar to completely load and the videos frequently pause and take too long to restart playing again. Even with little 2 and 3 minute videos.
I have a fast computer and my webpages load really, really fast. I have FireFox 4 browser and a Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. So I don't have a slow computer or web browser. But these slow YouTube vids take way too long to load for some reason.
Does anyone have any idea how I can speed up YouTube?

    Hi
The forums are customer to customer in the first instance, Only the mods (BT) will ask for personal information through a email link. Would you mind posting your Hub stats & BT speed test results this will help all with diagnosis-
To post the full stats from your router
    for home hub - 192.168.1.254
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right
Click on More Details and then post the results.
Run BT speed tester and post the results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
If possible it would be best to connect to the BT master socket this will rule out any telephone/broadband extension wiring also consider the housing of the hub/router as anything electrical can cause problems as these are your responsibility, if these are found to be the case Openreach (engineer) will charge BT Broadband, which will be passed onto you, around £130.00.
Noisy line! When making telephone calls, if so this is not good for your broadband, you can check-
Quite line test dial 17070 option 2 and listen - should hear nothing best done with old type analogue phone digital (dect) will do but may have slight hiss If you hear noise- crackling pops etc, report it as a noisy line on your phone, don’t mention broadband, Bt Faults on 151.
As for your FTTC its available in some areas between 40% & 80% of customers in enabled areas can receive it!

When I drag music files into the iPhone's playlist, the copying takes too long.  I am running 11 and have a 4

  • Why ipad 2 / iphone 3g resetting takes too long?

Im trying to reset and delete all content of my ipad and iphone 3g by choosing the selections about resetting on the general. Why it takes too long to reset my ipad / iphone 3g? It is almost 2 days my ipad are on the apple logo / looping circle appears on it and still im waiting for my ipad / iphone 3g to return to main screen.  What will i do? Thanks...

There is no other way except to restore the iPad - plain and simple. You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
You will need to use recovery mode
