With Mail, does a new mailbox have to be under "On My Mac?"

I haven't been using Mail lately and I went back to it and having trouble.
I go to create a New Mailbox--I have 2 options, "On my Mac" or "RSS" Under Mailboxes in the upper left of the window is Inbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash--then there's a separate list under it called "On My Mac" Which includes mailboxes I imported from Eudora.
I don't understand, why can't I create a new mailbox under the top Mailboxes heading? What is the purpose of a separate "On My Mac" heading? It's all 'on my Mac' anyway!
I have imported my Inbox from Eudora but it is buried under "On My Mac">Import>Mail Folder>In. Is there a way to integrate the imports with the regular Inbox?
Thanx,
Ken

when you create a new mailbox in mail you are given the choice of either "on my mac", "rss" or under an imap email account if you have one. if you only have pop account(s) then your only choice is to create a mailbox "on my mac" as in it is stored on your mac, as opposed to an imap account where you have the choice of creating "on my mac" or under the imap tree of that account - which would then show on the server side of that imap account.
each email account has five main mailboxes: inbox, sent, drafts, junk, trash. the new mailboxes you want to create will not be created under these main mailboxes, but, again, either "on my mac" or under the imap tree of an imap account.
finally, if you want to create a folder for your rss feeds, then that would created under "rss"
hope this helps

  • What exactly does a new poster have to do to get permission to post images?

Recently there was a forum update that disabled new posters to add images
(AND links?) Supposedly this was to reduce spam. So far so good.
Not surprisingly, immediately after the update we have numerous posts in the Forums Issues forum complaining about this feature and no doubt plenty of users just submitting to this policy in silence.
This whole feature is a SEVERE (that's right. bold AND in caps) hindrance. I don't have the stats, but I'm sure a considerable percentage of
(non spam) original posts are from new users with no previous forum activity. Pictures are especially important in the Chart Control forum as visualization is what charting is all about.
(This is the forum I frequent. So yes, I'm biased.)
Ofcourse, I'm sure the forum developers have weighed the pros and cons and studied the stats and then decided what to do after serious consideration...
The question is: What exactly does a new poster have to do to get permission to post images? Wait for how long? Reply to a confirmation email? "Participate" more?
(Say it ain't so.) How much more?
If there really is a workaround by adding an image tag with the edit html button, I don't want to hear it. It's as silly a way to add images as in the before times, the long long ago.
(Also, if this is possible, this whole restriction feature is actually worse than useless. Spammers will exploit this sooner than later. (A very good point made by our dear friend Quincy in a post that has since been deleted it
    seems.))

I believe answering that question defeats the purpose of having the "feature".
    I suspected as much.
I was hoping to add some explanation to the chart forum FAQ, I guess "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account."
(if this really is the only message new posters get) will have to do.
I still feel this is more of a hindrance to the quality of the forums than not. As confirmed it seems by Naomi, spammers already have a workaround.
Sipla, it sounds like we should add this FAQ to this article:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7359.forums-help-faq-en-us.aspx
    What do you suggest?
What does the message say to the user who cannot post links and images yet? We should map to that language.
    Thanks!

It says "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account."
If this means you will get a verify email, then you should get a verify email.  The message infers that either action will be taken by the forum mods that will be apparent to the user or that the user needs to take some sort of action.
If this is not the case, the wording needs to be changed; it should not mislead you.  This is an incredibly vague status message.
I do not have any record of a verify email in my inbox history.  All I have is an email this morning from MSDN Site Support (I also posted a request yesterday in MSDN Site Feedback) asking me which account I needed verified.  I only have one account.
Almost immediately after I replied, I was able to post links and photos.  Honestly I do not know which came first though, the "verification" or my reply to the email or someone noticing the thread about compaining about it a month after signing up.

  • Does The New iPad have GPS receiver? Can I use it as car GPS navigate?

Hi, Does the New iPad have GPS receiver include as hardware? Can I use it as car GPS navigate?

If you get the WIFi+Cell model of iPad, then it does have GPS. You can use it for navigation if you purchase an app that provides downloadable maps. The built-in Maps app can work for navigation, but it doesn't provide turn-by-turn and requires an Internet connection to function and so usually isn't practical for in-car use.
    Regards.

Does an iPod 1 have to be connected to a Mac to download stuff

If you have a wi-fi router or gateway, it is still best to user ethernet if it is convenient like for a desktop computer.  If it's a laptop or portable device then use wi-fi is OK, but you might not get the same speeds depending on the equipment and how far you are from the wi-fi router or gateway.

  • Problem with Mail not showing new messages

Since 2 weeks, my Mail does not show any of my 'hotmail' messages receive. The connection diagnosis said there are no problem with the account and server. It seems to download incoming mail (which also show in hotmail) but Mail does not show any new messages.

    Back up all data.
Select the problem mailbox in the mailbox list, then select
    Mailbox ▹ Rebuild
    from the menu bar.

  • Using "Enter Time machine" with Mail does not show 'restore' tab

I recently upgraded to 10.5.6 and while in Mail, I used the menu 'enter time machine' and instead of the familiar animation, the preview pane of the mail showed the message "click restore to restore your mailbox 'x'" BUT THERE WAS NO restore tab!
I only had my original desktop background with the Mail preview panel in the center.
I took a screen shot but don't see a way to attach images like on other boards.
In all other applications, 'enter time machine' would switch me to finder and go through that great time machine animation with the 'restore''now' and 'cancel' tabs at the bottom.
Anyone know why this has happened?

    Hi Barry,
Sorry to confuse anyone. What I meant was that with Mail.app in front or focus, if I click on the TM icon in the dock OR if I use the menu bar TM icon and from the pull down if I choose 'enter time machine' Then all that happens is the Mail window shrinks a bit, the dock disappears, in the Mail window, in the preview panel there is a grey message saying 'click restore if you want to recover your inbox' if I highlight another folder or mailbox I created it says 'click to restore that mailbox'
But there is no "RESTORE" to click anywhere. I can see my desktop background and the icons of files on my desktop. It looks as if Mail window shrunk a bit onto my desktop with no dock. Hope that gives you an idea.
With any other application as focus, when I click on TM icon in dock or the drop down menu from menu bar, it switches to finder, then goes through that breathtaking animation of the whole desktop dropping down and the finder window trailing into infinity.

  • Does the new iMac have a built in super drive

Does the new iMac come with a DVD drive

Forget the Apple external optical drive.
It is the same one they used to install in iMacs.
It is still a cheap unit, not great on longevity, prone to premature failure and it is waay overpriced!

  • Does the new ipad have a camera in the front so you can facetime?

I am looking to buy the NEW iPad.  I am wondering if it has a camera in the front of the iPad so that I can facetime.  I see it has one in the back, but it doesnt say anything about the front.
    thanks.

Yes, both the iPad 2 and the new iPad have front and back facing cameras and they have the FaceTime app (unless you buy from UAE or Saudi Arabia where there FaceTime is no FaceTime app).

  • Mail keeps spawning new mailboxes

For some reason, I have a friend who uses Mail on several Macs, as well as an iPhone and an new iPad. This has been an ongoing problem that we've not found a solution for. The mail account is IMAP, and is IMAP on all the devices that access this email account.
In the Inbox with the account name, there is another INBOX which contains yet another INBOX(both are white in color), and inside the second INBOX, are a series of other mailboxes(Junk, Sent Messages....)
I've suggested moving the messages to the correct mail boxes, and deleting the extra ones, and that stays that way for about a day, then they are all spawned again.
I'm at my wits end on this problem.... I use IMAP on several computers, and occasionally have this problem, but never to the extent that my friend suffers with.
    Any ideas ?
    TIA

Does he have the IMAP Prefix Path set the same on all devices? IIRC I had this - or a very similar thing - happen once when I had the Prefix set to INBOX on one machine, and empty (or .INBOX - note the leading dot) on another.

  • Does the new pro have DVD/cd

I Am thinking of getting a new MacBook pro and wondered if they have a dvd/cd rewrites.
    mant thanks.

Only one laptop sold by Apple has a DVD drive -- the 13" non-Retina MacBook Pro. (It's the mid 2012 model, but is still a very capable machine, and has FireWire, Ethernet, USB 3, Thunderbolt, etc.)
I have one and it copes with some pretty heavy lifting. You can upgrade the RAM yourself and swap the Hard Drive for an SSD very easily.
The alternative is to buy an external USB optical drive. Apple sells their own one, but there are others that might be cheaper.

  • E-mails saved in sub-mailboxes have vanished

Using Leopard os, 10.6.8; mail version 4.5  POP server, SBC/AT&T
I never access my e-mail through anything but my computer.  I bring my e-mail in through mail and read it on the computer; I hate webmail, it's slow.
I have quite a few sub-folders On My Mac which I use to save received messages, especially digital receipts.  Most are moved manually, there isn't a Rule to do it.  Looking in one, which ought to have quite a few, suddenly it contains only two.  Restarting Mail didn't work.  Rebuilding the mailbox didn't work, finding the folder through Finder also only shows only two messages.  Some folders have not been affected, they have messages sitting there that are over a year old, but the ones I wanted... poof!
WHAT HAPPENED!?  Are these lost for good?

Do you seriously think that is the way to get volunteers to help you?

  • Does the new Ipad have a usb other than to charge it up?

I am thinking of getting the new ipad and wondered if it had a usb port other than to charge it up?

The iPad doesn't have a USB port. You can get a camera connection kit which has a USB connection as part of it and which allows you to copy photos and videos to the Photos app, but you can't use it to copy content off the iPad and you can't connect an external drive with it - though there are some wifi-enabled drive that allow you to stream content to the iPad.
