With Maverick does Spotlight index keep indexing even when you have not done anything with your computer?

I have had lion and in lion the spotlight did not index all of the time like it does now. It seems like it index's every hour. I have gone through the forums and have deleted and rebuilt the index but it always seems to index and take 20min to do so about every hour, even if I have not download anything. Is this a new thing in Maverick or is it something I should worry or do something I have not already done. I have like I said deleted and rebuilt it. I also put my hard drive in and out of private. I have just done a clean install of Maverick and just wondering if this is part of maverick, never did this in lion. It seems to interrupt my TM Backup and yes I have put my external TM hard drive in the private section.

You can force quit Spotlight indexing.
Open Activity Monitor located in Applications > Utilities
Select the CPU tab.
Type mdworker in the search field top right corner of the window.
Select mdworker then click the force quit button top left side of the window.

My macbook storage keeps getting filled when i have not downloaded anything

In the last two days my macbook storage appears to be getting filled. I have no idea by what because i have noe downloaded anything. How do i fix this?

I have the same problem ever since I bought my new MBP Retina 13", 128GB SSD. Summed up I have 120GB that I can use for storage (I can see that for example in iStat Pro or in the Activity Screen). I don't know if that is normal in the first place, since the SSD is 128GB?
Further, I only installed: iWork '09, MS Office for Mac and Coconut Battery. Nothing else is on my MBP yet. It is 'empty'. Oh yes, my MBP is working on Mountain Lion.
Now when I check the storage free space it is saying 89GB . What happened to the other 39GB ! Oh well, minus the programmes I have installed (6,75GB). Let's say what happened to the 30GB?
Yesterday it was still saying that I had 90GB left for storage use. Today is has already decreased to 89GB. In the mean time I did nothing, except surfing around on this Apple Support Communities and tried to find information with Google search engine. So, Safari was the only programme that was on.
Maybe it has to do with something downloading or 'saving' data automatically? I have no idea.

Do my itunes purchases keep downloading even when I'm not signed into itunes?

I don't have enough time for my purchases to download completely, and I need to sign out of my itunes account, and I was just wondering, if I sign out without pausing my downloads, will they keep downloading? Because this is what I'm actually hoping for. It would be great if they could keep downloading even when I'm not signed in. I just don't know if they do or not.

Hi junebeez,
Have you gone into Settings and turned off the Sync Courses and Notes option? If not, try doing this:
Go to Settings>iTunes U>Sync Courses and Notes, and see if it is = On. If it is, turn it Off and see if that fixes the problem.

HT1338 why does my mac keep right clicking when i am not trying to right click?

New mac is only 2 months old.
I will be happily typing along and click on something and then it keeps popping up with drop downs as if i right clicked!
I must be doing something wrong?

Check System Preferences Mouse pane (or Trackpad pane). For the Mouse pane, make sure the Primary mouse button is set for the one on the left.
The Control key toggles the "right-click" with the primary button, when the Control key is pressed down while clicking the primary mouse button (or on a Magic Trackpad). So make sure you are not pressing the Control key inadvertently.
Also, if you are using a Magic Trackpad (separate or on a MacBook), the botton portion (along the edge closest to you) is sensitive to clicking on the right side versus left side. The rest of the trackpad is not. So, if you are clicking near that edge closest to you, a click on the right side will be a right-click. It is designed this way, because some people use their thumb along that edge to click (not their "pointing" finger); on old-school trackpads, physical buttons were located there. So, you can still point with the index finger and click with the thumb on the right or left "button." You should be able to adjust this behavior in System Preferences Trackpad pane.

Downloads repeatedly ask to open even when I have already done so

A couple of recent downloads, which I have now deleted from the download list, keep asking to download a minute or two after Firefox is started up.

You can check the downloads folder in the History Manager or the about:downloads page to see if you can locate unfinished downloads and remove them.
Note that entries may show more than once, so check the full list.
You can also check the home page setting to be sure that you haven't set multiple home pages.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

CBT Enrollment Status shows 'Completed' even though you have only done 1%

Hello,
Can anyone advise why the enrollment status on a CBT, shows 'Completed' when you access it and only complete a part of the CBT (in the Enrolment Summary table). When you click on 'Completed', and view full Enrolment Details the 'Successful Attendance' field is automatically flagged as 'Yes' and the 'Enrollment Status' shows Attended.
The Learner has definately not completed or passed the CBT.

I am not sure but it looks like chapters and sub-chapters, that exapnd and collapse. We are using the "Microsoft® Office Standard Edition 2003 Collection" software

School issued laptop, pop-ups, permission to use an applicaiton to stop showing up, even when I have not tried to use the application

I have a school issued laptop that is having a problem that has completely destroyed the useage. Every couple seconds a message will pop up that says "you do not have permission to use the application "spotifywebhelper", "Usutil", and "Student". The problem is that they do not stop. No matter how many times you click the okay button they come back in a couple seconds. I have tried to run a self service fix that is supposed to fix problems on the computer functioning, but it has done nothing. I sent my tech administrator a message but I have not gotten a response yet. This is a school issed laptop, so I cannot get into the things I think I need to stop this problem. If anyone can help me, PLEASE DO. I need my laptop and it has been rendered useless by these irritating and frustrating pop-ups that have caused this message to take about 10 minutes to type...

My friend can actually hack a mac pro just by restarting it even if you have a password to protect your mac. My mac is curently mavericks.
Steps: 1.When you open a mac with a password in mavericks, click switch user.
            2. After the page loads, click restart.
            3. After the computer shuts down and is turning on again, press command s.
            4. My friend just typed some code and managed to change my password.
            He told me the password and i changed it back, but i wanted to know how to prevent this hack from happening again on my Mac pro.

Don't let anyone use your computer including your friend. It's easy enough to change a password in single-user mode. Just put a master password - firmware password - on your computer to prevent that kind of access. Better yet change friends.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

When you have one item selected, it does nothing of value.
However, when you have multiple items selected it reorganizes the items so that they're evenly spaced, not overlapping, etc.
Of course, if the icons are already neatly arranged you still won't see any difference, but try moving a few things around (or overlapping icons) then try again.
