My computer crashed so I can't copy any file from itunes, how can i get what's in my ipod to a new computer?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Hey. As the subject line says, my computer crashed. I lost my entire harddrive and everything on it. All my songs are on my ipod, and is there anyway I can get them back onto my computer and into my itunes. Any ideas appreciated.

( I know my biggest mistake ) I need to find out how to make my iPod a mass storage device (msd) so that I can get the songs and pictures off and back onto my computer, without having to download all the cd's and music files. (i.e. over 2000 songs and 250 pictures) Please Help!!!!!

For your photos, your best option is to use a third party utility or check out this article below from Apple. Just keep in mind that if you did not store the photos in their full resolution, you will not be able to restore them back to their original resolution, but instead will have the smaller images (smaller resolution) that were created to fit on the iPod's screen.

Help! Computer crashed, need to get pics off of my iPod

My other laptop crashed last week and I now have about 15g worth of pics, music and videos on my 30g iPod that I can't get off. Is there a way to transfer the songs and pics from the iPod to my other computer? I've tried the recommendations found on the Apple Support page, didn't work.

Yamipod won't do videos or photos from iPod to computer.
This software does copy photos.

General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provides trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

You will need to install the old drive into an external enclosure to try and access it.
Any applications purchased from the App Store can simply be redownloaded.

If the motherboard crashed, the hard drive might still be OK. You can put the hard drive in an external USB hard drive enclosure for about $25. ll your music should still be on it!

How do I find pictures that are no longer on my phone? I am not sure if they are in ICloud or on my sims card.

If your phone is off, there is no way to locate it other than physically looking for it. It cannot be remotely turned on. Even if it were on, you would have had to have Find My Phone setup/activated/turned on BEFORE you lost your phone to have any hope of finding it.

You should be able to copy iTunes purchases to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. For music that you've bought from other sources or copied from your own CDs then have you not got a backup of them on, for example, an external drive that you can copy onto the computer ? If not then you will need to find a third-party program to copy them off - this post mentions some that were around a couple of years ago, whether they still exist and work I don't know.
