WIth Pages 3 less is definitely NOT more!
When I initially upgraded (a term that I shall be using with caution in the future) to Pages 3 I quite liked the stripped-back appearance. But, having started to use this 'improved' iteration of Apple's word-processor, I have reverted to the previous version as released with iWork '09.
The main reason, as I have found with the latest version of Numbers, is that Apple's software developers have simply removed functions that were really quite useful.
Where do you start? Moving the information showing fonts, size, layout and so on have all gone to the right hand side. But, when you're actually typing it is so much better to have all this information at the top of the page, as it were, that having to glance and move the mouse to the right in order to make amendments. It isn't just the location of this information, but we have lost functions.
When you open a new document you might get loads of 'stunning' templates, but you no longer have the option to choose between word-processing or page layout. It was great to be able to use what was quite a powerful DTP package to create certain artwork iems that you didn't require Adobe's InDesign.
Of course, there are templates that you can edit as per the old version of Pages, but where are the centering and alignment indicators that helped to position assets on the page?
I am a huge fan of Apple and their products, but at the moment I feel that they are in danger of mistaking change for improvement. It seems that so many changes have been made to Pages and Numbers just so that they can announced 200 'improvements', when there was not much wrong with the out-going versions.
So, as with Numbers, I have reverted to the older version of Pages, which I will continue to use until there is a compelling reason to re-upgrade.
This is the first time in my experience of Apple that I have downgraded anything, but I suspect I am not alone in this.

On full keyboards with a numeric keypad, the key above the right shift is "return" & the one on the numeric section is "enter." On a Mac (or Apple IIgs ) they do have separate functions. On the "mini" keyboards, both names are on the same key, but "enter" is written in smaller letters. I'll have to check to see how that works on another Mac later today.

Instant Alpha doesn't work directly on an iWork Shape or other construction that originates from an iWork app. You can export an iWork construction and bring it back as a normal graphic and use Instant Alpha on it if that is your objective.

This may be a new problem with Pages as I have not seen this happen with previous versions but, when I export a page made with a template, it ends up with merge problems - headers end up at the foot and invisible text regarding merge showing. When saved, a error box opens saying that merge fields are not save or similar, and I end up with a non friendly .doc file.

We are having a lot of problems with pages loading slowly or not at all. We get this message all the time...server not found...even on pages that have just recently been visited. We have this problem with Safari, Firefox, and Camino. I don't have Internet Explorer installed, but why should I just keep adding new browsers. My ISP assures me that the connection is fine. I have emptied caches, cookies, whatever I can find to empty. Did I empty too much? We use a Netgear router and a company called Digitron. Any suggestions?

Perhaps the easiest way to sort this out is to set up a separate Network Location for your connection:
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Only Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply".
-Back to the "Show" menu, select "Airport". Click on the TCP panel. There, enter 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box and select "apply". Also, you can always call your Internet Provider to find out if they have specific codes.
Creating a personal location, plus adding the DNS codes seems to speed things up. Otherwise, the "automatic" function has a tendency to "search" for available locations, hence creating the lag you are seeing.
Lastly, in the Finder, go to your Applications>Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open copy/paste lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.
If the above doesn't help, I suspect the Router is the problem. Perhaps you need to upgrade its firmware. Check at the Netgear site>Support.

HAVING A PROBLEM WHEN I PRINT A WEB PAGE WHICH IS MORE THAT ONE PAGE LONG. ONLY THE FIRST PAGE PRINTS TO SCALE...THE REMAINING PAGES PRINT OFF THE PAGE????HELP-IT IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH FIREFOX BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH SAFARI??Thank you for the response. I tried to fix the problem with some of the suggestions on that page, but none seem to work. I believe that is the only website that I'm having that problem on. I got to fooling with it a bit more and when I highlight the whole page and select to print the selected area, it actually prints the whole page then, but it won't do it as a default. I guess I can just do it like that from now on, but I thought there would be something in the settings that I could have changed. Thanks again for the help.

trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.
if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.
many thanks for your help.Photos are added to book in chronological order. So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

Template- container div background not expanding with page
Hello! Still fairly new to Dreamweaver. I'm building a website using a template I made. Theres one problem I can't figure out... I've created my "container" div and I'm using a style to add a background to this div. I have all my other divs inside the container. The problem I'm running into is that with pages of different lengths, the background doesn't expand to fill the rest of the page. As my content div (editable region) expands with more content, and my footer div moves down as it should, the background image just cuts off where it ended in the template. I created the background in photoshop, and I know for a fact that it's long enough to handle the lengthy pages. It's not a matter of the background image not being long enough, its just as the content div expands bigger than the template, it doesn't fill the entire container div.
So far my only solution is to make sure the template is tall enough to handle the longest page, and the shorter pages just have the added space below the content. I dont really want to do this, but I will if I have to. I hope I was clear enough, if you need screenshots or need to see the code I can post it. Thanks in advance for your help!

I tried adding the repeat-y like you said, and it didn't make any difference. I also went into the style and chose repeat-y from the dropdown box and it added
background-repeat: repeat-y;
and that didnt work either. I may not have explained it well enough, in my template.dwt page the background works exactly as it should, it expands with the page. But after I created the new pages using this template, then expanded the content in the editable region, thats when the container background doesn't expand to fill the page. It's stuck at the point I saved it in the template. I dont want the entire background showing all the time, on the shorter pages I want it to only go to the bottom of the content. Does that make sense?

Why is my Microsoft Word document not working correctly with Pages
I have created a new CV (Resume) in Microsoft Word on my work computer, it is using the latest version of Office. When I attempted to open the document in Pages on my home Mac, the formatting was slightly incorrect, but the main issue is it is missing two pages! The exact same document when opened in Word has three pages but in Pages, it only has one! I have had nothing but problems with Pages since I bought it! Can someone please help me get Pages to work correctly with my documents that are created in Word! Than you.
Pages does not allow a single cell in a table to span more than a page and there may be other problems that you also have not told us about.
Redo your CV using the excellent Pages templates, Word's templates are Uuuugly!
Being text based, with good typographical layout, those Pages templates should translate accurately back and forth from Pages to Word.
Frankly CVs don't require anything fancy. You could do an excellent, well laid out and very attractive CV in TextEdit which is no slouch in the word processing department.

PS Start off by saving your Word CV to .rtf or .txt which will strip off most of the bad formatting. Then reopen it in Pages or drag in the snippets of text into a Pages CV template's placeholders to automatically format the text nicely. -

I am creating a series of booklets with a small binder.
I want to make the right hand margins on the left hand pages of the document larger, to accomodate the binding.
and , Likewise , I also want to make the left hand margins on the right hand pages larger, to accomodate the binding.
How do I do this.
Right now, I have my documents with 1.75 on left and right side. The binder is a bit wider than .25 inch.
Hopefully, I worded this query correctly and intelligibly.
If it is a stupid question, please forgive me.
I have tried to alter margins in a 7 page document, for instance,
and when i adjust the margin on page 1, ( making the right hand margin larger by .25 in than the left hand margin,
all the subsequent margins are changed the same ( .25 addition on right hand ) ..
*** EXACT QUESTION..what I need, perhaps better stated, is to change the margins on a seven page document, by adding .25 inches on RIGHT side on ODD pages, and to .25 inches on LEFT side on EVEN pages of the document.

I have a problem.
I bought Pages and Numbers for my iMac and so far everything was OK.
Suddenly i have a problem with connection to iCloud.
Dokuments created on iMac in Pages or Numbers are not transfered to iCloud. Not uploaded to iCloud. There is a sign (small shape of iCloud), that they are waiting to be uploaded to iCloud.
I think the iCloud is OK.
i can see and manage documents in iCloud. i can create them on iPad and see them and delete them in iCloud.
But not on iMac.
i dont know what has happened and I am not abble to find the solution. It was OK till some days ago….I have a similar problem! Everything stopped working after upgrading to Mac OS 10.8.4 through the App Store. Help!

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
