With Safari, No search results in password protected iWeb site on MobileMe

Hi,
I'm publishing my iWeb site to my ME.COM account.
I have the site password protected as offered in iWeb.
But when the site is password protected and I'm accessing the site with Safari the search with the search field in the site does not produce any results.
Only the message:
"Your search did not produce any results."
If I use FireFox everything works fine and the search provides the expected results.
Looks like there is a bug in Safari.
Thanks and Regards,
JO

ok, is working, now.

  • Password protected iWeb sites - problem with login

This is an FYI regarding a problem I recently encountered. Neither MobileMe, nor Apple tech support or specialists were able to resolve it, but I finally figured it out.
I created a company website for my client, including secondary websites that were password protected in order for her clients to download support materials for her classes. The passwords worked fine last night, but this morning we could not login with the setup passwords. Even when we changed them and tried to re-upload the entire site, we could not. I don't know specifically what changed, but we went through a plethora of solutions over many hours, but to no avail.
In the end, it appears that how we setup the domain was where the problem existed. We have our own domain through Netfirms, which we set up to use in MobileMe as per the instructions. In Netfirms however, when you log into version 8, it does not give you the option to change the CNAME, as MobileMe states needs to be done. Instead I had set up the domain to forward to our "web.me.com/company" site. This was the problem.
To correct this, I turned off the url forwarding and logged out of Netfirms. Then logged back in, but into version 6 of the control panel. From here I was able to setup the CNAME as web.me.com. And ta-da, once it updated on the server the entire site and all password protected areas are working as needed.
    Phew.

To password protect a site, folder or page when using a server other than MobileMe you need to either enable this in your control panel or do it using a .htaccess file.
The server side script is the most secure way to do it. There are javascripts that you can use but they are less secure.....

Doing it via the control panel is easier but, if you want to go the htaccess route, you can generate it online here....

    Hi.
I want to know how to make websites password protected on iWeb. However, I do not have, nor want to invest in MobileMe, so is there any FREE service that does this. Thank you!

  • Password protected iweb site hosted on godaddy

    Hi,
I am using iweb 08, and i host with godaddy.
Is there any way of making the password function from iweb work with godaddy?
so far i can't get it to work.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Dave:
That's one of the features of iWeb that are not supported by non Mac servers:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Blog RSS Subscription
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ Enhanced slideshows
There are methods using php I believe but, again, have no experience with them. One of these sites may be what you're looking for.

  • Link to other published web folder from within password protected iWeb site

I realise that you cannot password protect an iWeb site if it contains a link to an external page / file. However, I have a complex genealogy site that I had previously published to another site. I directly copied this folder to the iWeb directory alongside the folder for the protected site published from iWeb. I have tried all sorts of link URLs on the protected site page, trying to link to the genealogy index.html file. iWeb refuses to allow password protection or even point correctly to the site.
Does anyone know how to create a suitable link to a site folder created elsewhere?

I have a password protected site with a page that has a link to an ordinary homepage.mac.com page, with no problems. Could you provide more details on what is not working for you? Maybe putting your geneology folder in iDisk/Sites and linking to that would help?

  • Windows XP User Can't Log in to Password Protected iWeb Site

Does anyone have advice for this problem? I have consistently been able to access my .Mac account from all PC browsers I can think of from my work computer (MSN, IE, Opera, Firefox). My mother-in-law uses a PC as well and she's had no trouble logging in. My wife uses a Dell at work and she's never had an issue.
An Aunt, however, cannot seem to get past the Username and Password identification screen when she tries to log in on a Windows XP system in Internet Explorer. Everytime she enters the correct User and Pass (and also in the right case, I checked), the pop-up just reloads. My understanding is that she has tried to do it multiple times in a row and still nothing.
Any takers? I am stumped. My best guess is something in the IE options for internet security is checked or unchecked. She is at a work that will not allow her to download and run other browsers, so it has to be IE.
If anyone knows the solution to this, I would be pretty grateful.
    Thanks!

I have the same problem here with a friend, that cannot access to the site and it works on my Windows XP-PC with IE 7 and Firefox 2. Really strange.

  • Saving PDF files in a password protected FTP site

    Hi Experts,
I have an Adobe Form which I want to save in a Password protected FTP site.
I have written the following code in the submit button
    TYPE = HTTP Submit
    URL = ftp://username:password@host/
But once the submit is clicked, I can see ONLY the display of the files in this FTP Server.
My requirement is, I want this PDF file saved in the FTP server.
    How do I achieve this??
    Thanks
    KR

If you are using the Adobe Reader plug-ins in Safari, then the only functional way to save the PDF locally (without damage) is to use the save functionality that Adobe (not Safari Save As…, Export, or Print > PDF) provides. These examples were captured on OS X 10.9.5. Safari 7.1.2. Adobe Reader 11.0.10.
Your first link will offer a roll over Adobe toolbar near the bottom-center of your displayed PDF document. Use the Save icon on the far left.
The second link produces the Adobe sub-toolbar with the Save icon.

  • How to password protect a site that is NOT published to .mac?

    Hi There,
I was wondering if anyone has got a workaround for this in iWeb. I would like to password protect a site but am not publishing it to .mac. Is there a piece of code you can stick into the HTML manually to do this?
    Thanks!
    s

I am answering my own question! A friend tipped me off — your hosting company may offer password protection. That was the case for me. I went into the site settings and was able to set up a password for the entire site or only certain directories. I hope this helps someone!

  • No Search Available In Password Protected Preview Document

You simply cannot search the pdf at all in SL if it is encrypted with a password.
I have a pdf with important data. To access it, I entered a password, and I can search it in Leopard.
The same document, after the password is entered, cannot be search in SL.
Save the same document as a non passworded protected pdf and it can be search.
Is there a new command I have missed?

I see the same thing. it would appear to be a bug to me. I suggest you file a bug report.

  • I used to have AVG free antivirus software on my computer. I uninstalled it, but every time I open Firefox and do a search, it comes up with AVG Secure Search results. I have tried the about:config stuff from the forums, but it is to no avail.

Had AVG free version. After Firefox updated to the newest version, AVG Secure Search results are the default. I have researched the issue for the past 3 days and have tried every option available on forums, etc. Nothing seems to work. This is very annoying and I'm about ready to switch to google chrome.

I ended up finding a solution.....went to Firefox tab on top left of browser screen. Went to help, restart with add-ons disabled. This takes you to the Firefox Safe Mode text box. Select "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults. This seems to have worked, as there is no longer an AVG Secure Search directed screen. Also, I installed Avast. Have had it on my tower PC and another laptop for 2 years with no issue. Screw AVG!!!

  • Stop Safari opening search results in new tab

Since updating to Safari 6.0.1 (and now 6.0.2) in OSX10.7.5 anytime I click a link which is a search engine search result (Google and Yahoo!, Ask.com has always done that) the result opens in a new tab. Previously results would open in the same tab and I could just press the 'back' button until I returned to the search results page. I would like to be able to go back to going back in my history, instead of switching between tabs. If anyone knows how I can restore the same tab thing instead of opening new tabs I would appreciate it as having a half dozen open tabs is frustrating, and I usually only need a second search result if the first was entirely unhelpful (thus rendering tabs a

I don't know about Yahoo, but Google has a setting to open results in a new window. If it's selected, deselect it.

  • Why unable to sign PDF with certificate after applying Nitro PDF password protection? (despite it explicitly allowing signing with certificates)

I used Adobe Reader XI to sign PDFs with certificate, which worked perfectly. Except that the PDF could still be edited by other programs (for example, Nitro PDF) after the signing (but not the fill out fields and the signature). To apply password protection makes sense to avoid changes in the PDF being made after it has been signed. So I applied password protection via Nitro PDF that allows only enter fill-out fields and signing. But when I open it with Adobe Reader, the filling out works fine, but the signing part is not available to click on it (all of the buttons under "Sign" tab are grey). When I go on the Security properties with Adobe Reader, I can explicitly see that signing of this PDF is allowed and yet the option is not open to use for me anymore.
Any ideas on why it is the case and what I could do about that?
    Many thanks!
    O.

Actually yes, I just asked my colleague to assist me with this, he password-protected the PDF with Acrobat 8, explicitly allowing for signing and fill-out functions, it also appears in Adobe Reader under security properties as "allowed", but it is not open to use in the Reader for me anymore (grey buttons).
