Without Keywords Smart Collection Issue

Hello,
I'm reviewing all the photos under the 'Without Keywords' smart collection.
I want to apply multiple keywords to a photo but after I apply the first keyword, the photo disappears since it no longer is 'Without Keywords'.
Any way to deal with this?
Thanks.

A couple of ways:
- Add all the photos to a collection or the Quick Collection.
- Assign the keyword "No Keywords" to all the photos, then filter on that keyword.

  • Lost all my keyword smart collection data

I temporarily turned off time machine for various reasons and something happened and I've lost my data I constructed to label clip keywords and group/smart collections etc.
Not sure if I can get it back. I hope I don't have to go back to lesson 3 and start over!
I do have a Final Cut Events folder and Final Cut Projects folder inside of the Movies folder on my HD.

I am sooo sorry!  Looks like I failed to notice a name in the search/find box filtering the data.
    My Bad.
But it does bring up the question of how to restore various backups of projects and events of Final Cut Pro X.

  • Smart Collections : Without Keywords does not update when removing items

    I removed a folder from Lightroom 4 (Beta1)
Smart Collections : Without Keywords shows 325,
But there are only 8 photos in my entire catalog.
It appears the number of Pictures without keywords is not updating after importing or removing photos

It appears its only updates when openeing or closing LR4, or if you add/remove a keyword

  • Smart collection containing matches with only two keywords

I have added keyword tags to all my photos with the names of the people in the picture.  I then created a smart collection with two names in it.  For example Jessica and Ryan.  That collection then returns all pictures that have Jessica or Ryan in them. I am trying to get pictures than contain both Jessica and Ryan, but not other names.  The only way I have figured out how to do this is by entering in the other names in the doesn't contain field.  That seems like a lot of work when I have many other names, and it must be updated each time I add new keywords.  Is there an easier way?

There's no way built-in to LR to do what you want without listing every keyword you want to exclude.  The Any Filter plugin lets you do it, though you need to understand boolean expressions.  See the "Exactly one person in the keywords" example for how to match exactly one person. To get exactly two people, you'd define the filter:
    All of
    Explicit Keywords = Ryan
    Explicit Keywords = Jessica
    Explicit Keywords all items
    Some of
    Keyword = Ryan
    Keyword = Jessica
    None of
    Keyword subkeyword of People

  • Smart collection drop down does not include keywords

I must have gotten this right once, because I have a smart collection whose only condition is a keyword, which is at the top of the drop down for that collection.  Likewise there is a default smart collection that LR must have created, which is called "without keywords" and whose one condition is that keywords are empty.  However,  every time I try to create a new smart collection, the criteria drop down starts with rating, followed by pick flag, label color, label text, down to the final criteria, "any searchable text" which I understand to be different from keywords, because there is a criteria called keywords.  The same is true of attempts to edit existing smart collections.  Where did my criteria by keywords go?

That allows you to share the saved criteria to a different catalog or to a catalog on another machine.

  • Sudden ultra-slow importing issue in LR5.2 - possibly smart collection related?

I've been using LR for almost two years now, and have never seen this before:
This evening I wanted to import a series of images from my card reader using LR (just updated to 5.2 from the 5.2RC); I have ~240 images to import. I always have LR set to convert to DNG on import, and also to save a backup of the original raw file (NEF) onto a separate HDD at the same time. LR has always been pretty fast to carry out this process: normally just a few minutes are required for that amount of images (not including rendering previews once the DNGs are imported). However, today it's suddenly become painfully slow - as I type this, it's so far managed to import a mere 58 images, having so far taken about an hour and twenty minutes! Each image is being added one at a time, with a long pause before the next one clocks up in the 'current import' folder. I've never seen such slow performance with LR before.
I wonder if this is a bug connected to the final release of 5.2? I doubt it, as I would have expected to have heard about this by now, but you never know...
I have recently - in the past few days - set up a number (at least 80) of new smart collections that pick up raw images taken at specific focal lengths, as well as another set picking up specific apertures used for each raw shot in the catalogue (unlike the majority of my pre-existing smart collections, these new collections are purely there for interest really - nice to see which focal lengths are the most used for example - but don't serve as an aid to any specific workflow). In short, I've greatly increased the number of smart collections running in my catalogue. Would having a significant number of smart collections slow down the image ingestion process? For example, is LR updating individual smart collections on the fly as images are imported, and thus having to pick through each collection in order to complete the import (I'd always assumed that this would all be added to a central index in the catalogue that the smart collections feed from, but perhaps there are multiple indexes, one for each smart collection)?
I guess the other possible cause could be a corrupt catalogue, although both the catalogue integrity check and optimisation complete without a hitch and everything else seems to be fine.
I'm on Win7 x64, running the LR catalogue and previews from an SSD (with images stored on a separate HDD), with an i7 3770K CPU, 16GB RAM, and an AMD 5850 Radeon graphics card.
I'd be most grateful to hear the opinions of other LR users.

This just started happening to me as well. EVerything was fine and import was what I consider normal until 2 days ago. Had trouble with one camera which kept losing connection. I import from the camera directly...copy as DNG to an internal hard drive. Now all my cameras are importing at a ridiculously slow rate of speed. As far as I know I changed nothing to make this happen. Very odd and cannot find anything about it except for your post. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

  • Smart Collection on a single keyword in Lightroom4

    Hi
I´m having some trouble figuring out this one:
I have twins, a boy and a girl. I take a lot of photos of them. I want to make a smart collection for each of the kids separately as well as of photos of them together. There are also lots of photos of them with grandparents and aunts and uncles. I keyword all my photos with who is in them. Is there a simple way to make a Smart Collection for ONLY one keyword. Say one collection for BOY and one for GIRL, i know i can specify all the nots and so on but i would like to say; make smart collection on photos that ONLY have this one particular keyword. Is this possible?
    Thank you!
    Frode

Robs suggested solution is simple and effective of course, but if I’ve understood correctly could something like this work…
have a keyword “FriendsAndRelatives” (non-export) which “contains” the Keyword names of all your friends and relatives and your Boy and Girl Keywords sitting outside this say under a Keyword “Twins”.
    ie
    FriendsAndRelatives  (non-exported)
    Relative1
    Relative2
    etc
    Friend1
    Friend2
    etc
    Twins (non-exported)
    BoysName
    GirlsName
I think you can then do interesting Smart collections such as …
    Keywords Contains BoysName
    AND NOT Keywords Contains GirlsName
    AND NOT Keywords Contains FriendsANDRelatives.
    Or…
    Keywords Contains BoysName
    AND Keywords Contains GirlsName
    AND NOT Keywords Contains FriendsANDRelatives.
    Etc etc
I may have missed the point though, if so … sorry!
    Alan.
PS - As an interesting example, I have an Animals Heirarchical Keyword tree which contains a tree of classifications 5 levels deep.
I can create a smart collection which shows all my non-bird wildlife as ...
Contains "Animal" AND Does not contain "Bird" and Does not Contain "Domesticated".

  • Better filtering for smart collections - by number of keywords

There is a nice feature for smart collections that allow filtering keywords by "are empty" and "aren't empty"
I would like to filter keywords by X number of keywords.
It's great to have a collection that tells me that there are no keywords but if I add only one keyword I then have to find the image by that keyword.
As a work flow this doesn't work great. I want to start with images with no keywords, then work through images with 1 keyword and 2 etc. To continue the process you would also need to remove the images from the smart collection (like remove from collection for standard collections) being able to remove the image from collection of has only 3 keywords should apply also to has 4 keywords etc. This way if you have an image that only needs 1 keyword you don't have to remove the image from every progressively higher amount of keyword collections.

Great, you are going to make me move my lazy behind and find it for you, aren't you? You owe me...

  • Smart Collection matching a multi-word Keyword

I have the following multi-word keywords:
    "through the years"
    "kelly through the years"
    "mike through the years"
I want to create a smart collection which only matches if the keyword is "through the years".  I do not want the smart collection to match the other two.
    Is this possible?

I agree that this is a design oversight that should be corrected. However, one could argue that a keyword entirely contained in another should be represented by a hierarchy. While the OP does not make it clear what the relationship is between "through the years" alone and "kelly through the years" it would seem that the concept of "kelly through the years" would be better represented with keyword beneath "through the years" and as such would not need to contain the string "through the years".
Also the OP states that the keyword "Kelly" exists on it's own and is distinct from "kelly through the years". It is not clear to me why just the keywords "through the years" and "Kelly" could not exist as flat keyword (no hierarchy). To achieve the concept of "kelly through the years" you would apply both. Then a simple AND condition would find the desired images.
In short I think this is a case of a flawed keyword hierarchy.
Again I agree that an exact match option should be provided.

  • Smart Collection collecting too many keywords

I created a smart collection with only one rule - Keywords/Contains/'Landscape' - but many other images that do not contain that keyword appear in the collection. It doesn't happen with any other keyword as far as I know. I tried re-creating the collection, re-keywording my images, etc. but with no success. How can I fix this problem?

    Darbs,
I suspect that Landscape is a parent keyword for several others. Look in your keyword list to see if that's the case.
Alternatively, you could set the Keyword Tags entry to "Keywords & containing keywords" to see what's going on:

  • Smart Collection Criteria (keywords)

I'm just starting to create some Smart Collections, which is a nice feature that I'm trying to understand.  I've read some of the tips and tricks, but I'm trying to figure out something:
I want to create a smart collection that has a particular keyword, but no other keywords.  For example, I may have a bunch of photos with several different keywords, but I want to single out one keyword for the smart collection.  I don't just want photos with that keyword, but photos with ONLY that keyword.  I see you can specify "contains", "contains all", "contains words", "doesn't contain" - but nothing that specifies "contains ONLY".
So let's say I tag my photos with the names of my kids (we have three of them).  I want to single out photos of just my son, Brandon.  If I do the "contains" criteria, it's going to give me all of the Brandon photos, but also the photos with my other kids in the pictures as well.  I don't see a way to specify that I ONLY want photos with the keyword "Brandon" and no other keywords in the photos.
Is there a way to do this?  Or am I just not thinking clearly?  ;-)

You can specify "Brandon", "but not Jason"  "but not Susie."- that'd be all right for your kids, but I have almost no photos with just one keyword. I'd usually have setting or holiday or vacation or something else besides my kid's names in any event.

  • Lightroom 5: Can't make smart collection using keywords?

I watched a tutorial about how to make smart collections using keywords.
I spent a couple hours selecting the photos (using the paint can, good tip) and giving about 700 photos the keyword "use".  Then I went to make a smart collection and discovered that it only allows you "any text field" with no reference to keywords.  Many photos in my huge collection have the letters "use" in their titles.
So is there no way to select keywords as a basis for smart collections????

  • Smart Collection Keyword Problem

I'm having a problem with smart collections.  I do bird photography and am trying to catalog my bird images.  I created a collection set called Birds, and I created sub-collection sets for various species.  Smart collections by and large do a good job of pulling images into the proper smart collections based upon keywords I've assigned to images.  But I'm having a problem with a couple of keywords.
I have a collection set called Ducks, and inside I have the different duck species set up as smart collections.  The rules for the smart collection for a given species are simple.  For Harlequin Duck, the rule is: Keywords, Contains Words, Harlequin Duck.  All of my Harlequin Duck images are correctly pulled into that smart collection.  But if I try to create a smart collection called Long-Tailed Duck using the same rule structure, no images show up.  The same goes for the smart collection called Wood Duck: no images are pulled into the smart collection.  However, if I change the rule for Long-Tailed Duck to: Keywords, Contains All, Long-Tailed Duck, all of the images appear in the smart collection.  This also works for the Wood Duck collection.  If I look at the Keyword list on the right of the screen, both of the problem keywords are there and you can see the correct number of images next to the keyword.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?  How can I fix this problem?  Thanks for your help!

Contains All - Treats the input as multiple "word fragments" and matches any photo that has a keyword that contains all of the "word fragments", even if only in part (i.e. as substring).
For example: If you have two photos:
Photo A, with: 'Big Mallard Ducks'
Photo B, with: 'Small Mallard Ducks'
    Then Contains All:
'allar uck ig' will match photo A, but not B.
    'allar uck' will match both.
'Contains Words' is confusing as heck - I took a whack then realized I was wrong. Maybe somebody else can educate us both.
I just did this test - I have a photo with the keyword:
    'Big Mallard Ducks'
    then Contains Words:
    Big - matches
    Mallard - matches
    Big Mallard - matches
    Mallard Big - matches
Big Mallard Ducks - does not
    Mallard Ducks - does not
    Ducks Mallard - does not
    Big Ducks - does not
    Ducks - does not
Straight from the latest help file: Contains Words
Searches for text that contains all specified alphanumeric sequences as whole words. To find photos with the keyword flower using a Contains Word search, for example, type flower.
    Here's another question for y'all:
Is 'Contains Words' broken? - I'd have to say it is...

  • Problems with "Keywords - contains all" in smart collection

I imported multiple pictures from a shoot; each has keywords, and they all have a common keyword phrase, say "my common keyword phrase". I created a smart collection with "Keywords" using "contains all" and parameter "my common keyword phrase". It worked as expected - those images were included in the smart collection.
However, I just imported a new picture that has "my common keyword phrase" in it, and the smart collection is not updated. The smart collection has no other AND or OR triggers.
I can access all the images with this keyword phrase by accessing them via the keyword list in Library - all the images do show up. But what am I likely doing wrong with the smart collection? I am using LR 4.3.1 under Win7 (64-bit). Thanks!

Have you tried deleting the preferences?  See Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5.  Note that on more recent versions of Mac OS, you should reboot after deleting the preferences, since the operating system can cache them.
Sprinkling this magic fairy dust often fixes weird LR behavior.

  • Keyword filtering problem in Smart Collections

    All,
I’m trying to do create a Smart Collection based on Keywords, unfortunately I can’t seem to get it to work. The criteria is that the collection must contain the keyword phrase “Publish to Flicker & Facebook” but not “Published Image”.
I’ve tried variations of the following:
Match all of the fallowing rules
Keyword doesn’t contain = Published Image
Keyword contains = Publish to Flickr & Facebook
This should give me all the images that I want to Publish to the services but have not been published as of yet. If I do either of these separately they work but not together as a filter. FYI I’m using the Beta 3 version. - CES

That didn't work... even renamed to nonsence words still dosent work
