Without thinking it through I disabled all USB ports in BIOS...

...on my HP Pavilion 23 All In One - is there any way to get into BIOS without USB support? Sorry if this has been asked and answered, if so I missed it...
Thanks!

Typically there is a jumper to clear the BIOS.  This is the PAGE for the motherboard, which does not indicate a jumper block.  My advise would be to remove the battery ( looks like a nikel in the picture of the motherboard ) for overnight.  Look for a jumper block indicating clear the CMOS.  For THIS model it appears, if available, it might be on the back of the motherboard.  The procedure to clear the CMOS is near the bottom of the page.

  • Hp pavilion dv6 disables all usb ports when put to sleep mode. hibernate will enable them again.

Im using an HP pavilion dv6 - 6b56el with Windows 7 Home Premium.
    First install on 15-DEC-2011
When I put the PC to sleep it will disable all USB ports.
When I restart the box or put it to hibernate (and wake it again) the USB ports wil work again.
This happens when running on battery or connected to a power supply.
As far as I can see I checked all power settings that could possibly disable the USB ports.
I think the latest changes to the system made before this happens were automatic windows updates on 18-DEC-2011 and 19-DEC-2011.

    Hi,
There are some computers on the market which have special USB port(s) stay awake during the computer in sleep mode. In your case, you can change this using Device Manager under power management  tab (un-tick "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power").
    Regards.

  • When I plug in an USB stick, my MacBook Air disables all USB devices

When I plug in an USB device, my MacBook Air disables all USB devices and the keyboard. It looks like it would freeze, but all applications still work. It just does not respond to neither keyboard nor mouse. The only solution is to force-restart it. What can I do? I am using Lion and have updated it. The same error occured with Snow Leopard as well. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens and sometimes not. I have a suspicion it is related to the devices power consumption in corelation with the battery charging status.
I am using a MacBook Air 13", late 2010 version.

Have you tried plugging the flash drive into a different Mac to see if it works? The Air shouldn't have any problem with it, I use a couple of flash drives in mine, although I don't have a pq1. Did you try both USB ports on the Air? Do you have another flash drive you can test in the Air, or a different USB device, like a hard drive or printer?
The only thing I can think of is either a bad flash drive, or a bad USB port on the Air. Sorry, can't be more help than that.

  • All USB ports seem to stop working "randomly" but some remain functioning until unplugged and plugged back in. [WINDOWS 8.1]

The devices that die right away are the network adapter and any USB memory stick plugged in, they still have their lights and all running but aren't recognized in "This PC" and the network adapter isn't found in "Control Panel\Network and
    Internet\Network Connections".
My keyboard, wireless mouse that runs through the keyboard's USB ports and the external HDD remains functional UNTIL I pull the plug on them, after that plugging them back in does nothing.
I put randomly in quotations because it seems to fail more often when I download something at speeds over 3Mb/s, for an example downloading Hearthstone through the Battle.Net client will more often than not make the issue happen after a little bit. BUT it still
happens randomly during NO network load what-so-ever.

Hey, I hope this helps you out a bit... I have had the same issue on my Asus K55A notebook with Win8.1 Pro x64 from the beginning! Thru my extensive research I found something interesting and the possible cause to all this! What I found was that by design
the xHCI Host Controller has virtual HS 2.0 Ports linked to the 3.0 Ports... Enabling compatibility with 2.0 devices ok... What happens is that the xHCI stack is unstable just like you say... The ONLY WAY I was able to fix the problem was by unlocking the
UEFI/BIOS to allow me full access to USB Configurations... I had to disable 2 of the HS ports under the xHCI Controller since I have only 2x 3.0 ports... This allowed 3.0 devices to be enumerated correctly under the xHCI stack and 2.0 devices now were enumerated
under the EHCI 2.0 stack... That's what worked in my case... I'm still digging around for more info about this issue because I find it so odd that no one discovered this when designing xHCI stacks and drivers at MS for Win8/8.1 x64... I hope I shed some light
on this issue... Good luck and keep us posted!
Hi, Sebastian. I have the same problem but i'm getting crazy trying to solve it. Can you help me to unlock the UEFI to access full USB config? and give me some suggestions on how to solve the problem?

  • 975X Platinum - All USB ports suddenly dead

    Hello all,
Something similar happened to my previous motherboard (I wrote about it here).
This time though, it happened when I plugged in my scanner to one of the front panel USB ports. Windows displayed a USB power outage error kind of thing and all USB devices stopped working. I unplugged all USB devices. Plugging in any USB device now causes Windows to display the "USB device not recognized" message. Everything else seems to be working fine. Looks like some transistor got fried or something. Some people have suggested me to reset the BIOS and unplug all cables from the motherboard and then trying again. Have to do that yet.
But this USB ports dying thing is really very annoying. I feel that if I buy a new motherboard, it would die the same way some day. This is bad. For the time being, I have installed a PCI 4-port USB host adapter to fulfill my USB related needs. If it serves me well, I think I would continue using my motherboard without it's USB ports working. I think it's far better than getting the whole thing replaced (retailers are really sluggish here and RMA could take 1-2 months to arrive). Basically, the whole situation just sucks as it is!
Has anyone else faced similar problems?

OK ... finally problem solved! Woohooo! Here's what I did:
I was almost fed up. Two of my IDE HDDs (connected to RAID controller) stopped showing up in My Computer (and device manager). I decided to flush the board off all it's power. I unplugged the PSU, disconnected all power cables from devices and the motherboard. Removed RAM sticks, and finally, removed the CMOS battery. Reconnected everything back, and voila .... all USB ports started working! Also, HDDs appeared back in Device Manager. I had lost all hope! Talk about miracles! If anyone else faces this problem, be sure to try what I did. It might help.

  • LOST ALL USB PORTS

Hey guys, really hope you can help cause I'm new at this.
Just put together this brand new rig with Vista Ultimate, well here are my specs :
    MSI975X mobo
    4GB Corsair PC6400-800MHz RAM
    WD 320GB Caviar HDD
    Spire Pininfarina case
ASUS Radeon EAX1950PRO 256MB graphics card
Everything was running fine 5 minutes ago, when suddenly, after plugging in my digital cam to transfer a picture onto my HD, I lost ALL of my USB ports (front-2, back-6-including those on the D-bracket). I have no idea what happened but I was using a USB keyboard and USB mouse (diNovo Edge-Bluetooth, and Cordless Trackman-USB). Basically, when I plugged in my cam, the keyboard and mouse froze (then I realized that all USB ports had been lost, so it wasn't the keyboard and mouse at all). I had to restart the 'puter with the case's restart button, and then at the POST screen it said that there were no keyboard detected (of course). Then I had to take out an old PS/2 wired KB to reboot and enter Windows, and that's the KB I'm using now (along with an old mouse, PS/2 as well). I can't tell you how stressed out this makes me, because I have no idea what is the cause, and almost no experience at putting computers together. I think I installed everything correctly (the 9 & 10 pins on the USB headers are not used - my case included the correct connectors and I didn't have to unwire or cut anything), and all USB ports were working absolutely fine up until I plugged in my cam (in fact, I had plugged it in previously, and everything went fine).
    Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance to the kind soul who will be able to provide me with advice that will solve this problem, which I hope isn't too bad.
Oh, and yes, the USB keyboard and mouse were both enabled in the BIOS.

where do you plug your d-cam? front panel or back panel's USB port? If front panel, that means the port comes with the casing, not with the motherboard. MAke sure that your wired the USB cables correctly, and watch out of the 10th pin on the board, it is the OC pin (overcurrent). If your casing does not support this pin, don't plug it.
No, my case's connectors have the correct configuration. The 10th pin doesn't have any wiring on it. But thanks for the input. By the way, how's life in Malaysia? I see you're from Penang... I'm fascinated by Kuala Lumpur for some reason. I'll be visiting your country as soon as I can, and particularly KL.

    Hi,
What about if you try to install drivers from your product's page?
    http://uk.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-driver
And when exactly it starts to fail to work? Did you try to have OS just installed, restart it and see if it works then? Are you able to determine which driver installation causes USBs to stop working?
    thank you
i just remove USB3 controller driver and work
    thank you all :D

  • Itunes Freezes during Sync on 3G & 3GS with Vista 64 & 7-64 all USB ports

To start. I originally had an iPhone 3G over a year ago on this desktop running Windows Vista 64Bit. My phone was able to sync with the PC for about a month and stopped being able to sync. I received many error numbers and put support tickets in with no avail. I then upgraded to an iPhone 3GS. Still under Windows Vista 64Bit and could not Sync my phone. It consistantly froze during the sync process. I tried all USB ports on my PC. People said to try restoring your iPhone and iTunes. I tried that and then got stuck on my restore. I had a broken phone until I was able to sync with my laptop.
I now have the same desktop Acer AM3641-EQ8200A but I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have always had the latest iTunes version, and tried 32 bit and 64 bit versions of iTunes. I still cannot successfully sync my iPhone. If it sits there long enough it will freeze up, start to freeze my computer etc. I decided to try again last night after I got a new USB cord and had the same issue.
In addition, my girlfriends iPod will not sync to the desktop either.
I have been stuck doing syncs on my Netbook for over a year now. Optimization of 3,000+ photos is horrific on it, but it works.
People say to get an external USB that is self powered. Why should I have to do this and chance frying my PC?
The deal is this, the phones won't sync with the desktop but will sync with my netbook also running windows 7 ultimate. All USB drivers are up to date on both.
I have tried Reformatting and Installing Windows. Reinstalling itunes. Updating all drivers. Tried different versions of iTunes. I first called Apple Retail, they had no answer. I wrote apple a lengthy letter with all the Error codes, they said they would call me even though my warranty over the phone support was expired. Never got a call back after they heard my problem.
What can I do to rectify this? I am not the only one out there.

    UPDATE:
After putting a USB 2 card in my mac, all worked properly. The problem seems to be using USB 1.1.
    This is really tragic because:
    + many Macs don't have USB 2,
+ it is very difficult to find out out if USB 2 exists on your computer (why are no USB 1 or 2 details spelled out in system profiler ?),
+ there are no warnings as to the sort of issues that would be coming up with USB 1.1 (yes I know the specs clearly says USB 2, but it looks like it was working at first),
+ there are no spelled warning by the system (after all, the iTune, iPod combination could detect easily that the incorrect USB standard is being used and warn the user),
+ there does not seem to be specific advantages to use USB 2 (like speed) as the syncing peaked at 6MB/s, a speed achievable with USB 1.1
Come on Apple you can do better than this !

  • How can I disable my USB port?

I need to temporarly disable my USB ports on my powerbook.

    For what reason ever..
IF this is possible then I would take a deep look at the developer tools. Inside the /Developer/Applications folder is a USB device tool ( designed to develop and test USB drivers/software ) .
Only other way would be geeky hacking on the open firmware prompt, but I don't know the aliases or command that would be needed. You will however need to digg very deep inside the technical side of a Macintosh and get an understanding how OF and the Hardware Abstraction layer in OS X works and maybe unload manually some critical kernel extensions on boot-time.
    Good Luck.

  • I think I have blown out my USB ports.  Plugged eternal drive to USB port;  drive also had an AC plug which I plugged in.  Screen went white;  unplugged external drive (both USB and AC plug).  Restarted MAC Pro.  Everything came back except USB ports

I think I have blown out my USB ports.  Plugged in an external drive to USB, but drive also had an AC connection which I connected.  Whole screen went white; unplugged external drive (both AC and USB) and shut down MacPro.  Restarted and everything came back except access to USB ports.  Have tried to reset PRAM and SMC.  No success.  Have I blown out the electronic circuitry to my USB ports?

Thanks for the response, but ironically enough, I feel really stupid after posting that because a couple minutes after posting that my DELL mouse started working again, but I honestly don't know how long that'll last. After it started working again, I tried switch which port it's plugged into again, and the other one (the one closest to me) still isn't working. If it stops working again (which it probably will), I'll definitely take it to the Apple Store. But, for some reason almost every time I take a device to the Apple Store, it fixes the problem itself when I get there, and then stops working after I leave (like just now.)
That's happened a couple times, like when my computer was heating up alot, and when my phone's sound kept shutting off by itelf.
Anyways, I want to keep this discussion up just because I know it'll stop working soon. But, yeah, I was planning on taking it to the Apple Store anyways, but I think the earliest I can is probably Saturday or Sunday, so I'll do that then.
    Thanks for the response!
    Scott

I am getting a 3014 error message when trying to recover my iTouch after upgrading to 10.7.0.21. Everything worked fine until the upgrade. My PC is current with upgrades, I have unplugged all USB connections and I have disabled my firewall security.

    Did you try this:
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).

  • Satellite C50-A-138 - All USB ports have failed

    Hi
I am having a major issue with my Satellite C50-A-138.
The card reader has never worked, and one by one the USB ports have one by one stopped working.
I can connect my phone to all of them, and it will charge.
But I can't plug any device into the ports and have the laptop recognise them at all.
    So far I have tried the following;
    Disabling and enabling each port
    Uninstalling and reinstalling
    Checking for updates
    Refreshing windows 8
    Reinstalling windows 8
    Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\UsbFlags
    Regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\usbhub
    Downloading hotfix
Is there anything else that I can do to make them work again?

    >...I did a full reinstall without settings
What do you mean without settings?
Anyway, try please to install some drive manually just to see if this will help.
