I came across a facility to check on reported faultsb at https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/secure/faults/tracking.do?pageId=5&reload=true
so I tried it out to find only the last fault (Sept 14th) - it took ages to load BT's speedchecket and eventually after running it the speed was 0.62mb - so it had obviously speeded up by then. last week on one occasion it was running at 0.22mbits and earlier that day I had 0.0mbits - however the fact it gave me a result at all suggests it was more than that (perhaps the software was "too ashamed" to say what it really was!). If so the software is more intelligent tan most of the people at the call centre.
The thing is since switching to BT I get around 0.7-0.8mb but when I complain it sometimes goes up to 1 or 1.1mb but within 24 hours it drops to 0.8 and after another 24 hours bottoms out at 0.6-0.7 once more. On several occasions BT has sent out engineers, and it seems the "fault"  is around 700m of cable - that is, 700m down the road there is a 4mbits service but at my roadside connection point the speed is around 1mbit (on a good day, just after BT resets the kit at the exchange). I have madee a dozen calls this year - but only the last one (2 weeks ago) is shown on the tracking service - and that was closed a week ago - there are no details it just saus "closed").
All BT did wes reset the exchange equipment on the day I called - as the speed went up to 1m as usual and as I predicted it was down to 0.6 again 2 days later. BT recons that they are providing me with 1mb speed and that is all they are obliged to do. but that is like a Reliant Robin dealer saying he can prove the car will run at 50mph and goes to the top of a gradient turns the car around, gets the needle up to 51mph going down the hill and then says - see it will do more than 50. Rubbish service is rubbish service.

    If you think you may have entered the email account information incorrectly:
    1.)  If you aren't 100% sure about the settings for your email account, contact whomever handles your email for you and get the following information:
    email address
    outgoing email server address
    outgoing email server port number
    outgoing email server user name and password
    2.) Go to iPhoto > Preferences > Accounts, click on the email account in question and then hit the "-" minus sign to delete it.  You can then re-add it with the correct settings from your email provider.

  • Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box.

    If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

  • For the past week, I am unable to view videos. The page comes up with this comment: "Blocked plug-in" and it suggests that I download the latest version of Flash player. I have downloaded that and still get the same comment. Please help.

    I have an iMac11.2 and am running Mac OS 10.6.8. I have not had a problem viewing videos until the past week or so. Now I cannot view videos on my news, facebook or in email messages at all. A message pops up in the window that says "Blocked plug-in". I have downloaded the latest version of Flash Player for which it asks and still no luck. Can anyone here help me with this? Thank you.     TThere have been 3 updates to flash player ink the past month.
    download and install the latest.
    this warning seems to be a part of the newer security updates.

  • What's the maximum LAN speed with the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter on my MacBook Pro?

    While I was at Yodobashi Camera yesterday, I got a Thunderbolt to Gigabit ethernet adapter for my MacBook Pro. I figure, since I'm paying for the high speed fiber optic (Sony Nuro), why limit my self to wi-fi speeds at home?
    Before connecting the adapter, via wi-fi it the speed was 143.8 Mbps down and 181.5 Mbps up.
    After connecting the adapter and making a direct LAN connection to the router, the speed is 783.2 Mbps down and 940.1 Mbps up.
    I'm certainly happy with the speed, but since Sony Nuro is supposed to be 2 Gbps down and 1 Gbps up I was wondering what the maximum possible is with this computer and adapter. Before asking the provider I was curious what the maximum specs where.
    The ether cable is a 3 m category 6.

    It's not really your computer that is getting the 2Gbps download - it is the router/ modem.
    If you hooked better/ different hardware up you could probably push those speeds around your network too. The trouble is that most residential hardware is gigabit ethernet not fibre. Fibre cards & cable are expensive in comparison.
    The existing hardware may allow you to 'bond or aggregate' multiple ethernet connections into one link to get more speed over ethernet. Obviously this requires more complex routers, switches & a network admin to set it up
    Those speeds sound nice, this bottleneck will mean that other devices on you network can't choke up the whole connection & make other users sad.

  • Does itunes have a free music video of the week every week, or just once in awhile?  If not, why do they call it "Free Music Video of the Week"?!

    LOL, but really would like to know...

    I guess then this is a serious shortcoming of iTunes... Up till this point I owned an RCA Lyra MP3 player and it had no problems whatsoever doing these things. I guess, after seeing how iTunes and iPod works, I'd rather return to Lyra if it had an 80 G version. The only thing that still keeps me with iPod is the capacity.
    It seems like that iTunes is a very cumbersome program and it tries to be so much user friendly that it even tries to eliminate the human element. Sometimes, it makes sense to keep files organized in specific manner. Especially when there is work involved and productivity.
    I guess I will just delete everything from the play list and read in the main folder every once in a while, leaving the machine working on it during the night or something, then another night, it will refresh my iPod. That's the only solution I see right now.
    It is interesting that a huge program like iTunes cannot do what a small one like Lyra can. And I even read in user groups that some people created programs for this problem, but those programs don't work with iTunes 7 well yet, so I am stuck with the manual updating or the brutal deletion and re-reading.
    Thank you for the answer. At least I know what not to expect from the program. I just use it for only one purpose: load music onto iPod, then forget about it. It quite an unuseful program for me otherwise.

  • Having trouble using my new touch with my tv. Have the lightening adapter, but only get sound, no video via the cable I used with my touch (4)

    How do I use my new touch (5) on my tv. My touch (4) used a cable attached to my tv, so I got a lightening adapter, added to end of cable, and plugged in new touch. Sound came through on tv, but no video. Do I need a new cable that supports this video content??

    For more information on which Digital AV adapters are compatible with which iOS devices, you may find the information outlined in the following article helpful, in particular this portion:
    Apple AV adapters cannot provide video output when used with Lightning to 30-pin Adapter or Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2 m) adapter.

    Per the article, for an iPod Touch 5th Gen, you would need either a Lightning Digital AV Adapter or a Lightning to VGA Adapter, depending on your connection type.

  • What happened to the free Single of the Week download?!

    I logged into the iTunes Store, clicked on the "Free on iTunes" section, and was shocked that the free Single of the Week is no longer there! It's bad enough that they got rid of the Discovery Download, Spanish Discovery Download, and Video of the Week, but now the Single of the Week is gone too? What?!

    Yes, I noticed the same thing.  I've been downloading the free single of the week for many years now and have discovered a lot of good music that I otherwise would never have been exposed to.  I hope it's just an oversight . . .

  • Calendar: start the Week view with Monday?

    When using the native Calendar application on the iPad, is it possible to have the Week view start with Monday rather than Sunday? If yes, how would I set the application to look that way? Thanks for the help.

    Yes, my old TREO was super for this. When you change your US calendar to UK, you also change the keyboard, and $ becomes ₤ (If that worked, it should be the British pound sign.) I wrote to Apple numerous times to no avail.
    I gave up and downloaded "Week Cal" after some google research for the Monday week calendar. It works.

  • Several videos on the same xhtml page in a epub

    hi, I tried to add two videos on the same xhtml page with the video tag in html5, when I open the ebook with iPad, I can see and watch the first video but not the following ones, there is just a space for the videos that is white like the background, no video player, nothing, is there a solution to fix that without creating a second xhtml page. thank you
