Wl server 6.0 on solaris
downloaded wl 6.0 for solaris. keep geting disk space not enough
error mesg although I have enough disk space. I exported the
tmp dir env variable IATEMPDIR as instructed in the install guide.
OS is sunOS 5.6, free disk space 3g and mem size 7g.
Anybody has idea?
Thanks!
It's not because you've got 7Go RAM that your JVM is allowed to use them
all. Try increasing the JVM memory size ( java -msXXm -mxXXm - replace the
XX with values such as 128, 256).

How to change default Server NFS version in Solaris 10 ?
How to change default Server NFS version in Solaris 10 ?
I need to change default version of NFS server version, currently i have NFS_SERVER_VERSMAX=2, for changing NFS version i changed this variable in /etc/default/nfs, but still its using version 2,
Please let me know where else i need to change./
Thanks a lot in advance!!!Did you change the /etc/default/nfs on the server or on the client?
What is NFS_SERVER_VERSMIN set to? The NFS server is allowed to use any version in the span of NFS_SERVER_VERSMIN and NFS_SERVER_VERSMAX.
NFS_SERVER_VERSMAX=4
The default of NFS_SERVER_VERSMIN is 2.
And, as mentioned, you will have to restart your NFS server for changes to take effect.

Thread number limitation on Sun One Web Server 6.1 on Solaris 9
Hi.
I am testing my servlet on Web Server 6.1 on Solaris 9 (SPARC). I am logging start of HTTPServlet.doPost() method and end of it, by calling GenericServlet.log() method for perfomance check.
When I request more than two request(it takes long time) simultaneously from browser, my servlet logs like:
doPost start
doPost start
doPost end
doPost start
doPost end
doPost start
:that is ,two requests is processed concurrent by threads, and another requests waiting, and after each running thread ends, waiting request is processed one by one.
I think there is some limitation of thread or connections, so I checked magnus.conf. But RqThrottle is set to 128. And I cannot find any thread number settings.
My magnus.conf is as follows.
# The NetsiteRoot, ServerName, and ServerID directives are DEPRECATED.
# They will not be supported in future releases of the Web Server.
NetsiteRoot /export/home0/SUNWwbsvr
ServerName test03

Thanks in advance.I don't think I ever ran into that kind of a limit. Does the servlet use database connections (maybe the connection pool is empty) or other critical sections / large synchronized blocks?
Try a minimal servlet that takes a while to execute:
doGet(...)
log("sleep starting " + Thread.currentThread().getName());
try {
Thread.sleep(30000);
} catch (Exception e) { }
log("sleep done " + Thread.currentThread().getName());
response.getOutputStream().println("good morning"); -
Is there any way to know whether a report server is running in solaris
Hi
Could you please tell me is there any wat to know whether a report server is running in solaris or not?
And if running what is the name of the Report server?
ThanksOn windows, you can read the environment-variable "OS" with the following code. Maybe there is somethins similar on Solaris.
function BeforeReport return boolean is
vcOs VARCHAR2(2000);
begin
tool_env.getvar('OS', vcOs);
srw.message(1,vcOs);
return (TRUE);

Install a FTP Server and GUI on Solaris 2.5.1.
Hi All.
I have two questions.
1. What i have to do to install a FTP server on the installed Solaris 2.5.1 ?
2. How can i install GUI on the same system ?
I've installed Solaris on the Sparc Station, but, by default, the GUI was not installed
on it.
And now, when i turn on the power, i see only the command promt on the screen.
How can i fix this "bug":-)
Help me if you can.
Thanks.1) The Sun provided FTP server should already be installed on the system unless the machine has been installed using a minimal install cluster. You might consider using something like ProFTPd. This is a VERY configuration FTP server and is a much better FTP server then the FTPd that comes with Solaris 2.5.1. See http://www.proftpd.org for more info.
2) This is isn't a bug its actually a requirement for most people for servers in production or even development environments. The X "GUI" chews up a not insignificant amount of memory and proposes a security risk. To reactivate the GUI for startup at boot time, run this as root:
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e
This of course assumes all the expected CDE/OpenWindows packages are available on the system. I haven't used CDE in years but I think you need to reboot the system to get CDE to startup correctly and grab the console. Not sure if starting it up while you are logged into the console will work.
P.S. CDE is a PPPIIIGGGG. Run something respectible like Fluxbox or Blackbox. Heck, Gnome and KDE are pigs too but they are still better then CDE - twm is better then CDE LOL :)
3) You said "I've installed ..." - I assume this means recently. You might consider upgrading to a more recent release of Solaris. Solaris 2.5.1 is rather "out of date" - this is not troll bait folks. -

iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 Patch 2 (built Jul 14 2004)
libimta.so 5.2 Patch 2 (built 19:30:12, Jul 14 2004)
I heard that SUN have released security vulnerability in Sun Java System or iPlanet Messaging Servers that may allow remote unprivileged users to craft specific messages which contain Javascript to be executed in the end user's browser.
The problem can be solved by using iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 (for Solaris 8 and 9) with patch 5.2hf2.13 or later..
where can I download patch 5.2hf2.13 for messaging server 5.2 ?Hi,
If you have a support contract with SUN you can log a service request to get a copy of the patch via:
http://www.sun.com/service/online/

Problem with WLST in weblogic application server 10.3 on solaris 10 x86
Hi Friends, I installed Sun Solaris 10 on my desktop x86. I am able to install oracle weblogic application server 10.3.
I created one domain and I am trying to start AdminServer on that using WLST command.
Before that , I started the admin server from command as normal start ( nohup ./startWebLogic.sh &) and the server started perfectly alright. After that I was trying to open admin console in firefox browser. It was opening perfectly alright.
Now I stopped the server and checked no processes which are related to weblogic were running , and then initialized the WLST environment using the script "wlst.sh" , which is at (in my system) /usr/bea/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/wlst.sh. Now the environment had been set and the WLST offline prompt came up.
Now I used the below WLST scirpt command
startServer('AdminServer','mydomain','t3://localhost:7001','weblogic','weblogic1');
and the server started perfectly alright, now what I did was , I started admin console at FireFox browser , it prompted me to enter user name and password , I gave them , and once the login is done, then in my shell window , I am seeing error as

So I thought I have less memory consuming for this weblogic admin server and opened up ,
_/usr/bea/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/commEnv.sh_
and changed the memory arguments as
Sun)
JAVA_VM=-server
MEM_ARGS="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m" <---- previously these were 32m and 200m and MaxPermSize
and also in /usr/bea/wlserver10.3/common/bin/bin/setDomainEnv.sh_
and in this file also I changed the memory arguments as
*if [ "${JAVA_VENDOR}" = "Sun" ] ; then*
*WLS_MEM_ARGS_64BIT="-Xms256m -Xmx512m"*
*export WLS_MEM_ARGS_64BIT*
*WLS_MEM_ARGS_32BIT="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m"*
*export WLS_MEM_ARGS_32BIT*
and restarted the server using the WLST command and again tried to open the admin console on a browser, same error is showing.
(1) Environment : Sun Solaris x86
(2) JDK : sun jdk 1.6._17
Please help me what I am doing wrong here and please let me know the solution.
I was trying to install jrockit 1.6 on this since my OS is sun solaris X86 , there is no compatible jrockit version is not there.
Thanks a lot
PeterHi Peter,
As you have mentioned in your Post that
MEM_ARGS="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m" <---- previously these were 32m and 200m and MaxPermSize
The Setting you have provided is wrong ...that is the reason you are gettingjava.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space. There is a RRation between PermSize and the maximum Heap Size...
Just a Bit Explaination:
Formula:
(OS Level)Process Size = Java Heap (+) Native Space (+) (2-3% OS related Memory)
PermSize : It's a Netive Memory Area Outside of the Heap, Where ClassLoading kind of things happens. In an operating System like Windows Default Process Size is 2GB (2048MB) default (It doesnt matter How much RAM do u have 2GB or 4GB or more)...until we dont change it by setting OS level parameter to increase the process size..Usually in OS like Solaris/Linux we get 4GB process size as well.
Now Lets take the default Process Size=2GB (Windows), Now As you have set the -Xmx512M, we can assume that rest of the memory 1536 Mb is available for Native codes.
(ProcessSize - HeapSize) = Native (+) (2-3% OS related Memory)
2048 MB - 512 MB = 1536 MB
THUMB RULES:
<h3><font color=red>
MaxPermSize = (MaxHeapSize/3) ----Very Special Cases
MaxPermSize = (MaxHeapSize/4) ----Recommended
</font></h3>
In your Case -Xmx (Max Heap Size) and -XX:MaxPermSize both were same ....That is the reason you are getting unexpected results. These should be in proper ration.
What should be the exact setting of these parameters depends on the Environment /Applications etc...
But Just try -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -XX:MaxPermSize256m
Another recommendation for fine tuning always keep (Xmx MaxHeapSize & Xms InitialHeapSize same).
Thanks

Report Server: RTF format on Solaris gives Core Dump
We have Report Server 6.0.8.11.2 on Solaris.
We are running reports thru URL and it is working fine for PDF and HTML. When we specify the desformat as RTF it gives Segmentation Fault Core dumped.
We have tried using rwcli60 thru command line and it gives the same error, while PDF and HTML format is fine.
Is there a patchset for Solaris for the same or are we missing on some parameter?
- TarunHi I am a beginner to solaris and am trying to install Sun ONE Application Server on the virtual machine which runs Solaris10 on X86. When I try to launch the executable bin file, i get a message saying Killed.
It seems like it is not initiating the executable. ANy comments would be appreciated

phone: + 49 30 5058 - 1963 . fax: -1600Hi Falko,
This is not a problem. when you want to add a new managed server to the
admin server, you need to use weblogic console to create that server in the
admin server first, then start the managed server with that name to connect
to the admin server. That is like you have to let the admin server know
there is such a server, then let it join to the Admin server. you can do
that by using the admin console, from left panel, click on Servers -->
"Create a new server" and name it to be "paros", specify the port and IP.
and hit "create". then start the managed server.
Thanks

Sun Java Application Server 8.1 Upgrade Solaris 9 to Solaris 10
I have Sun Java Application Server 8.1 (version 8.1_02 (build b06-fcs) ) and HA which are currently installed on Solaris 9 box (Sparc).
Now, I plan to upgrade Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. What should I need to do before and after migration?
Thanks.Before I start, disclaimer -- I have no knowledge of Hibernate and the following comments are based on the stack trace you have included.
I think your permissions might be set all right but you might have an error in the hibernate query. It looks like hibernate uses antlr to parse the queries. While parsing the query, antlr is encountering an exceptional condition and is trying to exit the VM (by calling System.exit()). Obviously, the hibernate code does not have that permission and therefore the exception is logged.
My guess is if you fix the query such that hibernate/antlr can parse it, you will not run into this error.
Hope this helps, -
DAC Server to DB Server Connection issue on Solaris 10
Hi,
I have a connection issue that has me completely miffed as to what is going on.
We have a Oracle DAC Server running on Solaris 10 that connects to the DAC repository inside a database on another host also running on Solaris 10. When I try and build a DAC execution plan I get an error where I unable to complete the build due to by repository connection being lost. Looking at the DAC logs you can see multiple entries of
32231 INFO Tue Oct 15 10:04:05 BST 2013 CONNECTION_ISSUE Repository ending polling
32232 INFO Tue Oct 15 10:09:05 BST 2013 CONNECTION_ISSUE Repository ending polling

32235 INFO Tue Oct 15 10:24:05 BST 2013 CONNECTION_ISSUE Repository ending polling
Then eventually you see connection lost.
When I check the DB host using dmesg I notice the following entry over and over
Oct 15 11:00:53 v10emsu101 nxge: [ID 339653 kern.notice] NOTICE: nxge3: xcvr addr:0x0a - link is up 1000 Mbps full duplex

There is no entry for the link going down just up all the time. The timing in the logs match with the DAC logs which makes my think this is where the issue may lie.

Does anyone have any idea on why this keeps occurring or can it safely be ignored?Did you find a solution to your problem? It sounds like something we are experiencing.

Proper server sizing for SPARC/Solaris to Intel/R migrations
Is there any collateral available concerning proper server sizing for customers migrating from SPARC/Solaris to Intel/RHEL? I was just asked by our account team that is working with a very large custormer in the pharma space.
My initial knee jerk was to refer them to the OEM but thought I'd look around in these forums first.
My searches have not returned any good results yet.Hi Mike
the public SAP SD-Benchmark homepage ([http://www.sap.com/benchmark/|http://www.sap.com/benchmark/] -> SD two-tier results) gives interesting but very indirect sizing hints. There are several SAP SD-Benchmarks on SPARC/Solaris. I picked some of them:
[2008075|http://download.sap.com/download.epd?context=B1FEF26EB0CC3466320983FEDBEB2A47615DC8F24866B0B6870E95AA3589B515566F7A57D98961BB]: 24650 SD-User w SAP ERP 6.0 (2005 Non-Unicode) on SPARC Enterprise Server M9000 (32CPUs)

[2008058|http://download.sap.com/download.epd?context=40E2D9D5E00EEF7CB82813BD3F95797BAEB80527B36EC026E03386D659E4DE48]: 7520 SD-User w SAP ERP 6.0 (2005 Non-Unicode) on SPARC Enterprise T5440 (4CPUs)
You'll probably have the hardware setup of your customer together with the system utilization. Check it with the Solaris/SPARC benchmarks on the public page and check for Intel Benchmarks as well. Make sure, that the SAP release is the same (with 2009 a new SAP release is mandatory for benchmarks -> numbers are not comparable to 100%).
Thanks,

Anyway:
I am running VMware server 1.0.4 on Windows XP.
I have a Solaris 10 8/07 virtual machine installed.
The VM is NATing through the host os's network.
I have two network adapters (physically on my laptop), one wireless and one wired, I can have any combination of them being enabled or disabled according to where I am working, and sometimes I start the virtual machine with neither of them enabled.
When I installed the Solaris VM, the network interface was configured as pcn0. At some point (don't know exactly what i was testing then) pcn0 was no longer available and pcn1 suddenly appeared. Later on this happened again and pnc1 disappeared and I got pcn2.
As far as I can tell this happens when I start the VM with a different combination of NIC's enabled / disable , i.e. for some reason, having a different physical interface enabled causes Solaris in the VM to configure a different instance of the pcn interface.
I am not sure yet if this is really what is going on, but for now I am focusing on testing what is running on the vm rather than giving in to my technical cravings to get to the roots of this problem, so for a quick fix, just grep for pcn in /etc/path_to_inst, and try plumbing the instances you find there. The one that does not return an error is the one that is currently working.
Just change your hostname.pcnx or pcnx.dhcp file to reflect the correct instance number and do an "svcadm clear physical" this will get your network started and start all the dependent services.
Hope this helps. -

The iPlanet-WebLogic Server 5.1 on Solaris
Does the iPlanet-WebLogic Server plug-in is supported on Solaris platform?.
Hi Matt,
How do you like it? Is it very stable? I had heard complaints on the
earlier iPlanet releases (mainly on NT), but I assumed that they were
probably working better on Solaris. What does performance look like? Did
you use Netscape server before, and if so, are there any particular
differences?
Thanks,
Cameron Purdy
