WLan controller 2112 and LAP1042n Access Point issue

Hello,
I recently purchased a 2112 Wlan controller an a number of LAP1042n Ap's.  The AP's will not associate to the controller and the message I receive in the console of the AP is that the firmware AIR-WLC2100-K9-6-0-199-4.aes  does not support this model?  Can someone please verify this is the case?
Will firmware AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-98-0.aes  overcome this issue?
Thanks in advance
David

YEs, 7.0 does suppoert it...

  • Dynamic VLAN Assignment with RADIUS Server and Aironet Access Points

    Hi Guys,
I would like to go for "Dynamic VLAN Assignment with RADIUS Server and Aironet Access Points 1300". I want the AP to broadcast only 1 SSID. The client find the SSID ->put in his user credential->Raudius athentication->assign him to an specific vlan based on his groupship.
The problem here is that I don't have a AP controller but only configurable Aironet Access Points 1300. I can connect to the radius server, but I am not sure how to confirgure the AP's port, radio port, vlan and SSID.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008076317c.shtml#switch
    I go through some references:
    3.5  RADIUS-Based VLAN Access Control
As discussed earlier, each SSID is mapped to a default VLAN-ID on the wired side. The IT administrator may wish to impose back end (such as RADIUS)-based VLAN access control using 802.1X or MAC address authentication mechanisms. For example, if the WLAN is set up such that all VLANs use 802.1X and similar encryption mechanisms for WLAN user access, then a user can "hop" from one VLAN to another by simply changing the SSID and successfully authenticating to the access point (using 802.1X). This may not be preferred if the WLAN user is confined to a particular VLAN.
There are two different ways to implement RADIUS-based VLAN access control features:
    1. RADIUS-based SSID access control: Upon successful 802.1X or MAC address authentication, the RADIUS server passes back the allowed SSID list for the WLAN user to the access point or bridge. If the user used an SSID on the allowed SSID list, then the user is allowed to associate to the WLAN. Otherwise, the user is disassociated from the access point or bridge.
    2. RADIUS-based VLAN assignment: Upon successful 802.1X or MAC address authentication, the RADIUS server assigns the user to a predetermined VLAN-ID on the wired side. The SSID used for WLAN access doesn't matter because the user is always assigned to this predetermined VLAN-ID.

Any help on this issue is appreicated.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure if the Autonomous APs have the option for AAA Override.  On the WLC, I can go into the BSSID, Security, Advanced, and there's a checkbox that I would check to allow a Radius server to send back the VLAN.
I did a little research and it looks like the 1300 may give this option but instead is defined as "VLAN Override".  I've found the release notes for 12.3(7)JA5 (not sure what version you're running) that give mention and a link to configuring EAP on page 4: http://www.ciscosystems.ch/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1300/release/notes/o37ja5rn.pdf
    Hope this helps

Looks to be wither a duplicate address issue or a configuration issue.  Try to test with only using the 2.4ghz and then again with only the 5ghz and see if you see a difference.

  • T60 - WLAN regularly loses connection to access point

    Hi,
    my T60, Windows Vista with
ThinkPad 802.11a/b/g/n, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter
    WLAN driver version 05 Nov 2007, v7.3.1.127
    WPA authentification
regularly (i.e. once every 15 min) loses the connection to the access point for some seconds.
I already tried different access points, different encryption, different WLAN channels, but nothing helped.
So the cause seems to be the WLAN adapter of my T60 or the driver.
I am using the latest driver. As far as I remember, I did not experience this issue on Windows XP.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? It's quite annoying.
    Thanks! Best regards,
    Daniel

Hi lwoxen,We apologize about the inconveniences, but I would be glad to assist. One thing worth trying is changing the wireless channel on the Cisco WAP.To do this, just login to your U-verse gateway by going to http://192.168.1.254. From there you should see a list of all the devices connected, and you just want to choose the details on the Cisco AP. It should give you an IP Address. From there, type that IP address into your browser. It should ask you for a user name and password:User: ATTadminPass: 401!VENFrom there go to the wireless options and change the Control Channel option to one of the 4 channels. I would suggest trying 36.Let us know if that works. Also, I will be sending you a private message, so if you do have any further problems, you have a direct point of contact.

  • Help required to implement Cisco 2504 WLC and 1042 Access Points

    Hi,
My name is Vidya Sagar. I am new to Wireless technology. We are planning to implement Wireless in our office. I have given the requirements below. Kindly go through the details and let me know how to start.
We have purchased Cisco 2504 Wireless Controller (One) and Ciscon 1042 Access Points (Five). At present I am going to use 3 access points only.
I have attached a simple diagram of our office network. We have more than 30 VLANs configured in Core Switch, we are planning to give wifi access to only 3 VLANs.
    1. VLAN 121 ( IP Segment - 10.52.121.0 /24)
    2. VLAN 116 ( IP Segment - 10.52.116.0 /24)
    3. VLAN 100 ( IP Segment - 192.168.100.0 /24) (Guest)
Please give me a implementation plan to do this. I would like to use LDAP or ACS for authentication purpose.
    Regards,
    Vidya Sagar

Lets just do this simple first before you start using ACS as that will require a certificate installed on the ACS for using PEAP.
So first off, the WLC we will say is in vlan 10. When you are going through the startup wizard, make sure you define the vlan tag to 10 on the management interface. Make sure your virtual interface is an IP address that is not routed in your network, like an out of band IP.
Make sure the WLC time is correct or use NTP!!!!
Now you should be able to http or https to the WLC. I would upgrade the code to v7.4 and install the FUS image. Please reference this link for the upgrade procedure. You don't have to upgrade now... I would wait till you get everything working first.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn74.html
Now I would connect the APs on the same vlan as the WLC for now. Make sure there is dhcp on that subnet. Once the APs have joined, then you can move them to any subnet you want. Since you don't have many APs it would be okay to leave them in the same vlan as the WLC management or out them on any other vlan you choose. The APs will be connected to an access port NOT a trunk port!!!!
The WLC will need to be connected on a dot1q trunk port only allowing vlans 10,100,116,121. The 2504 running v7.4 will support LAG (etherchannel). Any ways, your switch port should look like this for example only
    Interface gigabit1/0/1
    description WLC2504
    switch port trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchoort mode trunk
    switch trunk allowed vlans 10,100,116,121
    spanning-tree portfast trunk
channel-mode group 10 mode on << only for v7.4 if you use lag
Don't connect all four ports right now, just port one!!!!
Your Guest vlan, you will need to create an ACL to block traffic from accessing the internal network. You might want to allow dhcp and DNS bit I would leave it open first until you can verify everything is working.
Now on the WLC you need to create a dynamic interface for vlan 100, 116, and 121. If you click on the Controller tab in the GUI and click on interfaces on the left hand side, that will take you to where you can add/delete/modify your interfaces. When creating these interfaces, make sure you add the dhcp server IP address for the primary and or backup.
Now that you have your dynamic interfaces created, its time I create your SSID. Now click on the WLAN tab on the GUI and click on WLAN and then on the too right select Create New and then click go. Select WLAN on the drop down menu and then for the profile name I would use the SSID name also for simplicity.lean e the WLAN id to 1 for this and 2 for the next and so on. After defining these and clicking Apply you can now define your SSID. On the General tab, enable the status and leave the radio policy to all for now, you can decide later what you want to use. Choose your interface you wan to place this SSID on and enable Broadcast SSID for now and leave everything else alone. Now click on the Security tab and on the layer 2 Security, leave it at WPA + WPA2, only check WPA2 Policy and for WPA2 encryption choose AES only. Now go to the bottom of that screen and choose PSk. We will do pre shared key for now so you get to understand the setup and make sure everything is working first. Now on the PSK format, choose ASCII and put your pre shared key in the input box. Make this simple to for testing. You don't want to put in symbols or anything like that. When you are don with that, check apply on the top right and test.
Now you can repeat this with your other SSIDs just to test. Your guest network you can leave open for now to test open authentication.

  • E6 - Internet Access point issue

OK... Here's my first portential bug identification from Nokia E6.
I use mFE for my office email.  I have Home WLAN as Priority 1 and EGPRS as Priority 2 as Internet Access pointsand have the Connectivity settings option Switch to WLAN set for "Known WLANs only".
Now often I see the EGPRS is active despite I have strong WLAN signal at my home.
Grrr... my data charges will go high because of this....
Does any other Nokia E6 user face similar issue?

    @ Since_6110,
If so, the network packet data connection is being used by another application
So under Connectivity > Settings > Destinations you have a destination called "Internet" (the default name for the first destination), and it has your home WLAN as Priority: 1 and your network provider's packet data at Priority: 2 ?  YES
And in MfE under Advance Settings, the Access point specified is "Internet" (or the same Destination mentioned above)? YES

  • N95 Wifi, home network and hidden access points

    Hello-
Just picked up a N95 and having some problems. First, my home network doesn't broadcast a SSID. I stumbled across the home network option and was able to configure it. However, it's never an option when I need an internet connection; e.g., it never shows up in the wlan list.
So, how do I congigure a hidden access point so I can use it? The user guide says you should be able to do it manually, but doesn't go into any details.
Secondly, exactly what is the home network setting for and why is it separate from the other wlan settings?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Jay,
I too have a hidden network (SSID not broadcast), the N95 seems to have a problem with this. It may or may not show up on the active standby screen (on my Voda N95, it shows up when I take my sim out!).
To configure your accesss point :-
Tools / Settings / Connection / Access Points
then Options / New access point
    Connection name
(enter a name, whatever you want to call it)
    Data bearer
    =wireless LAN
    WLAN network name
    (enter your SSID here)
    Network Status
    (public or hidden)
    WLAN network mode
(Infrastructure or ad-hoc. If you're using a router, infracstructure should be the one you want)
    WLAN security mode
(Open, WEP, 802.1x or WPA2. Check your router)
    WLAN security settings
    WPA/WPA2
EAP or Pre-shared key (consult your router)
EAP plug-in settings or Pre-shared key
(which one you get depends on what you set above)
    WPA2 only mode
    (leave alone)
Having done all this it still won't show on the active-standy screen (at least it doesn't on mine) in the WLAN section BUT if you know try and surf the web it should ask which access point you want to use - assuming you've got it set to 'always ask'. What this seems to do is only list the connections that it can find (i.e if you've got a 'Starbucks' and a 'home' connection defined, it'll only show 'home' at home and 'Starbucks' when you're getting your latte. The standby screen may show, how to decribe it, a four leaf clover near to the battery level indicator, this is the indication that it's either found or connected to your wireless lan.
I think the 'Home netw.' option is for use with the Home Media Server application supplied on the CD. I haven't tried it so can't confirm for sure.
    Hope this helps,

  • Problems with AirPort and WPA access point

Okay, I have done quite a bit of research and I still cannot resolve my problem because of this, I am turning to this user community.
Here is what I know as of right now:
I am running Windows OS X 10.4.4 with AirPort Update 2005-001. My Access Point is a 3COM 8250.
The AP is setup not to broadcast its SSID, to use WPA-TKIP (or in Apple terminology, WPA Personal) and the password is set to use alphanumeric.
When I try to connect my PowerBook with the SSID name, WPA Personal and the correct password, I get the following error:
The password you entered is not correct for the Airport network *******.
To troubleshoot here are the test I have run and their outcomes:
    Test
    - Result
Set the AP to completely open
    - Connected
Set the AP to open, didn't broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
Set the AP to WEP, broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
Set the AP to WEP, didn't broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
Set the AP to WPA & WEP, broadcast the SSID
    - WEP : Connected
    - WPA : Not Connected
Set the AP to WPA & WEP, didn't broadcast SSID
    - WEP:Connected
    - WPA:Not Connected
Set the AP to WPA only
    - Not Connected.
Now, I should mention that when I was running 10.3.3 I could not connect either. The AP is running the newest firmware and I have three Windows XP SP2 laptops / workstations that can connect with no problems.
I have tried to find a compatibility matrix on both 3COM's and Apple's websites to see if it might be a compatibility issue but I have not been able to find one on either site.
Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks in advance.
    17" PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hello MisssAsh. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It's always a good idea to do a complete power recycle when changing network configurations.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, AirPort Express Base Station (AX), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Roaming between RV220W wireless router and WAP121 Access Point

Hello, I have recently purchased a RV220W wireless router and a WAP121 access point and i would like to allow my users to "roam" between the two networks as needed (so when the user is closer to whichever one they connect to that one since it has a better signal). For the most part I only have experience in cisco IOS and in actual routers not the wireless stuff so my knowledge has not exactly transfered over well.

    William,
WDS will not work between the RV220W and WAP121 due to incompatible chipsets. The RV220W can be repeated using WDS by another RV220W or RV180W only. You will need to plug the WAP121 into the RV220W or try WorkGroup Bridge mode to repeat the signal.
Regarding roaming, the router or AP are not aware of each other and do not have the capability to disconnect a client and help them connect to the AP with the stronger signal. The client will switch to the stronger AP only when the original signal is lost.
The Aironet (enterprise) devices have the ability to utilize a wireless LAN controller which can help keep devices connected to the stronger signal and allow truly seamless roaming between APs.

  • Problem with PowerBook (but NOT MacBook) and two access points on network

I recently installed a wall-plugged ethernet adapter system (Netgear XE104 and XE103) and plugged a wireless access point (Netgear WPN802) into one of the adapters (in the part of our house where we lacked a wireless signal) in order to extend the range of our (DSL) wireless network. I configured this new access point--disabled DHCP, assigned an IP address to the access point that does not fall into the wireless router's IP adress range, put the wireless router and access point on different channels (6 and 11), and made sure the router and access point had the same SSID.
I have had no problems using the resulting setup with our new MacBook--everything goes as planned. BUT I am having a terrible time with my PowerBook G4. It has a really strong signal everywhere, but when I open my browser it says that I am not connected to the internet. The problem seems to be that my PowerBook refuses to change channels once it connects to one. I installed iStumbler to see if I could manually control which access point/channel the PowerBook uses, and, while I can track the signal strengths for both access points, I can't get my PowerBook to switch from one access point to the other.
I've tried just about everything I can think of. I suppose I could try giving a different SSID to the access point (and then try to switch with the airport menu in the toolbar), but I would like to avoid this if possible.
I would really appreciate any advice you have. Thank you!

Can you connect if you temporarily turn off WEP or WPA?
This will determine if it is a WEP or WPA issue.
Does your PC support WPA, from both a hardware and a software perspective?
The problem you are having probably lies with the encryption key.

  • Cisco 2500 controller with aironet 1600 access point

    Hi,
This my first wireless project, and I have a few questions about the installation :
1- some of the access point will be installed in branch offices, connected to the controller through the main MPLS netwrok ( is that possible).
2- If for any reason the connectivity between the AP and the controller get disconnected what will happend to the users connected to the access point.
3- can I have two vlan on the Aironet 1600, the first one to be connected to the controller through the MPLS netwrok and the second for users to public internet.(internet break out).
    Thanks,

Yes that setup will work. What the others are trying to explain is authentication if your WAN goes down. If your AP's are setup for FlexConnect and you are indeed using AP groups, (using 802.1x) you need to have a radius server and a backup AD sever to allow for authentication to still happen if the WAN goes down. If you have resources centralized, then when the WAN goes down, everything else goes down and no new authentications will take place and any re-authentications will fail with 802.1x.

  • E61i worldmate problems and default access point

I cannot get Worldmate to connect without error. Worldmate support tell me to ensure that the "device default access point" is correct. However, I have not been able to find a global default access point setting anywhere, including the help doc!
Once into worldmate, you can apparently change your access point, but the first time it looks for a global default. So I cant even get in!
My phone is working fine with GPRS and WLAN, as long as the application allows me to select the access point.
Perhaps this is a change between e61 and e61i?
    Anybody have the same problem?

Both WorldMate and GolfPro2 workd when I first installed them. Now when I try to open them nothing happens.
I redownloaded WorldMate and re-installed, then both worked. After shutting down, neither work again.
How do you resolve this? Is it based on the access point?

The exact same thing happens to me when I install other programs, like Nokia Maps or 3D pool. When I install them and reboot, both worldmate and the new installed program doesn't work. This doesn't happen with other programs that I've installed so far, like Gmail or google maps.

  • Radius local server and wireless access points

    Hello to all,
I would like to ask a question related to radius server. I have a Allied telesis core switch and i configure the radius server locally, also i configure the port1.0.7 for dot1x and i am using dynamic vlan. If i connect my laptop to port 1.0.7 i can get the correct ip from the dhcp server. If i connect an access point to the same port , how i should configure the dot1x ? for multiple hosts? I know i am using allied telessis but the config is very similar to the cisco: take a look:
    (Radius and nas config)
    radius-server host 127.0.0.1 key awplus-local-radius-server
aaa authentication dot1x default group radius
aaa authentication auth-web default group radius

  • WRVS4400Nv2 router and WAP4410N access point

    WRVS4400Nv2
Love it! More Bars In More Places! Yahoo and never cuts out...nice job guys worth the money!!!!
    bugs
    1. Can't find how to set it to use https for access of the admin panel, very puzzling
    WAP4410N
    bugs
    1. WMACFilter.htm&unit=0&vap=0 > Wireless Client List
This needs a To Sort by Client Name, IP Address or MAC Address and it should always list
Select Check box    ||   Client Name    ||   IP Address   || MAC Address
but it currently only lists ( this is bad form and looks rushed? )
Select Check box    ||   MAC Address
    AND No sort ability
This looks rushed because the partner device the WRVS4400Nv2 as the above functionality.
Doen't look good when the same functions don't work / look the same??
    2. WMACFilter.htm&unit=0&vap=0 MAC 20:
If you enter a mac address into MAC 20: and save it it returns blank with the change saved to MAC 19 so it overwrites MAC Address 19 REAL BUG HERE!
    A bug in common WAP4410N and WRVS4400Nv2
I will call this a functional bug
The connection control should have an input box with buttons for Add || Edit || Delete and you should enter the MAC Address in and click add and this should populate a read only textarea so you are NOT limited to just 20 client computers. Basically this should work like the Setup_lan.htm in WRVS4400Nv2 Static IP Mapping but instead of doing mapping just add/subtract/edit Mac addresses and you can fit a lot more than 20.
This is a Major limitation considering I paid pretty good money for this router and access point, I should have vertually limited clients
So back to the Setup_lan.htm in WRVS4400Nv2 static IP mapping......I LOVE this feature and the way it was implemented.....NICE JOB GUYS

  • E60 SIP and several access points

I have e60 and use it to make VoIP calls within our corporate network. We have several access points in the office (office is big and one point is not enough to cover it.) Thus, I have two SIP profiles in the phone for two different access points with "always on" option. Everything works fine until I start walking between those points and phone loses connection to one point and establishes connection to the other. Often, when I return to the area of the first point, the phone gets frozen and dialpad is not working. However, menu button is still working and navigation is possible. The only way to get phone working normally again is to reboot it.
Has anyone faced that problem? Any suggestions to solve it? I have FW 2.0618.06.05 RM-49 which seems to be the latest one.
    Thnx!

Everybody who wants working SIP on their Nokias, check this: http://www.control.aau.dk/~danji/how-tos/nokia_e60_pabx.php but remember when you type "Proxy server address" and "Registrar Server Address" not put sip:s1.easypabx.com that! You have to write IP address - this one: 194.192.14.200! REMEMBER IT!Message Edited by iphone on 23-Aug-2006
