WLAN controller Software Download

Hi There
I purchased a brand new Cisco wlan controller (2500 model) and one access point from a Cisco authorised supplier. Can I register the controller on the
Cisco website to enable access to download software related to this controller? I want to download the latest "AIR-CTVM-K9-8-0-100-0.aes"  software
but I am not allowed according to my profile.
So how do I get access to the latest software for my 2500 WLAN controller ?
Regards
Gideon

Can I register the controller on the Cisco website to enable access to download software related to this controller?
Yes and no.
The quick answer is NO.  Your authorized Cisco reseller should be able to "attach" the serial number of your WLC to your Service Contract and your Service Contract is attached to your CCO login.
If you go direct to Cisco, it'll take time to get to the bottom of the details plus you need to furnish so many information it's better to get your Cisco reseller to contact them.

  • 3502i WLAN controller Software Version

I know that the 3502s as well as the 1262s need to terminate on a software release 7.0 or higher on the primary controller.
Now in the event that the primary controller has loaded release 7  and then you have a tunnel to an anchor controller across the WAN for guest access  and that controller is release 6.  Will this scenario work?
    I would appreciate your responses.

That should work, as the tunnel is just passing traffic and not terminating the AP.
In the guest access FAQ, there is a list of the supported anchor/foreign softwares.

  • Data flow using a WLAN controller

Can someone explain the flow of data from wireless client to some destination in the internal network (or the Internet) using a WLAN Controller? Use a 4402 as an example.
Specifically, I am wondering if client traffic actually passes thru the WLAN Controller (4402). I am reading the configuration guide and it doesn't seem to be explicitly stated one way or the other.

    Hi Ken,
This is a very common question these days.
Here is a recent thread as well as an excerpt from a good doc:
    http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Wireless%20-%20Mobility&topic=Getting%20Started%20with%20Wireless&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddaca5d
In the Cisco Centralized WLAN architecture, LWAPP-enabled access points operate in the lightweight mode (as opposed to the autonomous mode). The access points associate to a Cisco WLAN controller. The controller manages the configuration, firmware, and control transactions such as 802.1x authentication. In addition, all wireless traffic is tunneled through the controller.
LWAPP is an IETF draft protocol that defines the control messaging for setup and path authentication and run-time operations. LWAPP also defines the tunneling mechanism for data traffic.
In an LWAPP environment, a Cisco Aironet LWAPP-enabled access point discovers a controller by using LWAPP discovery mechanisms and then sends it an LWAPP join request. The controller sends the access point an LWAPP join response allowing the access point to join the controller. When the access point is joined, the controller downloads its software if the versions on the access point and controller do not match.
LWAPP secures the control communication between the access point and controller by means of a secure key distribution, utilizing X.509 certificates on both the access point and controller.

  • Problem Wlan Controller 5508

    Friends,
I have a problem authenticate with AP AIR-LAP1131AG-AK9 to Wlan Controller 5508 (software versión of the Wlan Controller6.0.202.0 ). This AP always tries to authenticate with Wlan Controller. Maybe it tries to download the ios version.
    Could be a hardware problem.
I am going to attach the log file.
    Thank.
    Marco.

Looks like a great case for TAC.
This is an HREAP AP?   It looks like it is associated fine with the WLC (no logs indicating it is trying) but instead it looks like Client Associations are breaking because it thinks it is up to 256 AIDs.....?
Maybe this is a common error, but it hasn't cross my path before...

  • WLAN Controller Required?

Currently developing a solution to convert simple Windows wired domain to wireless.
Considering using ten Aironet 1100 APs for 200 Windows XP clients on a single network/domain. Clients will authenticate using certificates with RADIUS (IAS) over EAP-TLS. Each Aironet will support 20 clients and will be wired back to the RADIUS server.
What Cisco software is required on the 1100s and what WLAN controller (if any) is required?
    Thanks!

If you plan on using the Cisco Unified Wireless Solution, you would require a controller. Different models supports different number of AP's. For 10 Ap's which would be required in your place, a 4402 controller which supports 12 AP's should be a good choice.
The AP's download the code from the controller and hence just need a recovery image. The controller would come preloaded with the software required and you can upgrade to th latest code. Please refer toe the documentation below.

  • Cisco website software download disappeared

Does anyone know if there is a known problem with the Cisco software download website? I was looking to download the NBAR protocol pack for the WiSM2 but it's no longer listed as an option (WiSM is there but obviously of no use to me). I can get it for my 5508 controllers but not the WiSM2...
I assume that I am searching correctly as I downloaded the 7.6.120.0 software only last week.

It's just not showing up under the WISM2 page. If you go under the 5508 downloads page the latest NBAR2 Protocol Pack is listed there:
         "NBAR2 Advanced Protocol Pack 6.4.0 for AireOS 7.6: NBAR2 Engine 13  (pp-AIR-7.6-13-6.4.0.pack)"
If you click on the Release notes for that pack, they indicate:
NBAR2 Protocol Pack 6.4.0 is supported on the following Cisco Wireless LAN Controller platforms:
     Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller
Cisco Flex 7500 Series Wireless Controllers
     Cisco 8510 Wireless Controller
Cisco Wireless Services Module 2 (WiSM2)

  • Cisco 1010AP Can't find 4402 WLAN controller

    Hi folks,
I'm running a 4402 WLAN controller running 5.2 code. I've got some 1010APs that don't associate with the WLC. I'm trying to keep the setup basic. The access points are plugged into the same VLAN as the native vlan for port1 on the controller. I've setup a DHCP server in the manner documented. The WLAN controller is configured as a master server. This is the message that I get in the web interface for WLC:
AP with MAC 00:0b:85:6e:4a:90 (AP 1010 #1) is unknown.
Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Daniel,
    You won't like this I'm sure, but this is why the 1010 is not working;
**Note: Controller software release 5.0.148.0 or later is not compatible with Cisco Aironet 1000 series access points.

  • VoWLAN Roaming without WLAN Controller (WLC)

    Hi,
Need some advice here. I am trying to implement VoWLAN in a company using Cisco WAP4410n Access Point. The problem is, I've downloaded all Cisco WLAN Controller (WLC) data sheets and can't find any compatible WLAN Controller for this type of Access Point.
Can I still implement VoWLAN without WLAN Controller? Is there any way to provide smooth intercell roaming without WLAN Controller?
    Thanks
    Regards

I have designed the cells so they have 20% cells overlap. I've also designed the channels so they won't interfere with each other (I use 2 GHz channel here)
But what could be used to replace WLC's role to manage these Access Points? maybe some kind of server?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Lets make it simple. There are different trains. 7.0 is one, 7.2 is another, 7.3 is another and 7.4 is another. So if your on 7.2.x, the latest for that version is the .x. Each one listed above is different as far as features so you need to look at the latest for train that your on.

    Hi Manoj,
Although WLC Controllers can be configured in an Active-Active type redundancy, you don't need the WLC for small deployments. The AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 access point can be setup in Autonomous or Stand-alone mode as well :)

  • Communication between : AP and WLAN controller

    Hi,
The communication between AP and WLAN Controller is ( Data and Control ) UDP.
Source port 1024 and destination port 12222 and 12223. Actually which device listen to which port or both should listen as control and data can be generated from both the devices.
How does the user ( wireless client) traffic is switched - if user traffic is a TCP traffic. It will be sent to WLANC and then WLANC forwards it to respective VLAN or default gateway ( depending upon the destination in the packet ).
Please explain / share the experience.
    any link on cisco.com
    Thanka in advance
    Subodh

"the LWAPP Control and Data messages are encapsulated in UDP packets that are carried over the IP network. The only requirement is established IP connectivity between the access points and the WLC. The LWAPP tunnel uses the access point's IP address and the WLC's AP Manager interface IP address as endpoints. The AP Manager interface is explained in further detail in the
implementation section. On the access point side, both LWAPP Control and Data messages use an ephemeral port that is derived from a hash of the access point MAC address as the UDP port. On the WLC side, LWAPP Data messages always use UDP port 12222. On the WLC side, LWAPP Control messages always use UDP port 12223.
The mechanics and sequencing of Layer 3 LWAPP are similar to Layer 2 LWAPP except that the packets are carried in UDP packets instead of being encapsulated in Ethernet frames."
