  • Satellite L500: WLan drops out and doesnt work most of the time

    hi everyone, i have a toshiba satellite L500 running windows 7. have been using iprimus internet, wirelessly, no problems for a few weeks,before that, was using it via ethernet cable as i didnth ave a wireless modem. my laptop was off charge the other night and went flat, next morning when i woke up and turned it on, it wouldnrt connect to the internet.. after hours and hours of phone calls to iprimus, and numerous winsock resets, ethernet cable testing, and modem resetting, they tell me that the problem is within my laptop...
    So i rang toshiba.. and they got me to go into device managers, and then network adapters, and disable, actually uninstall the wireless drivers, then reinstall.. and it worked.. finally... (forgot to add with all the iprimus confusion someone had reset my passowrd and i had to configure that to the laptop..
    so anyway, after all these calls, i did a complete restore of the laptop, and wiped everything and reinstalled it all, and therefore reinstalled the modem. this time in modem setup it was telling me the wireless network adapter was unplugged, and would only let me set it up via ethernet..
    now earlier today i did have the internet.. but it dropped out randomly.. webpages will go slow, sometimes it will reconnect, other times it wont. now i thougbht i might try and uninstall and reinstall the modem again,s ame error, and this time, cant get on wirelessly at all.
    ive googled to see if others ahve had this problem.. and seeing what other people wrote, i went into my battery settings, and checked the WLAN didnt go into sleep mode etc, and ive also checked everythings enabled. ive no idea what to do,, neither iprimus or Toshiba will give me any anwers, both companies are just blaming each other lol
    so i
    it does appear to be my laptop, as all lights are on modem.. and iprimus keep telling me its not registering with them ( the disconnections) so it must be my wireless. though everytime my laptop dropped out of internet, so would my bfs iphone we were testing, and so did my other laptop which is partially stuffed but could normally still connect to the net.. so thats telling me its a modem problem.. ive no idea what to do.. and cant keep this via ethernet on the bench in this new hosue ive moved into,as with 2 kids under 3, thats just asking for trouble..

    wel after many more phone calls to iprimus, i finally found a helpful indian, who ran me through the modem setup AGAIN like everyone else has, this time in its security settings, he got me to change the wireless signal channel from 2 to 9, said that would improve the signal, every other person when explaining the issues i was having, always told me to set it on 2.. so this has improved it dramatically in the day, but at night, particulary around 830pm, it drops out over and over and over...
    would this just be a faulty modem, and perhaps buying oen from a harvery norman etc would be better?? or could it just be iprimus as a whole with there wireless coverage? im not in an iprimus area, theyve borrowed the lines of telstra or something.. so im on a crappier plan in this new house, and dont have adsl2 just 1500 speed. would this have anythign to do with the poor reception, or perhaps is there something in my house interfearing, or in my neighbors house? there is a satelite here, but no actual foxtel connected, looks as though it has been before. there is also an alarm here, not in use though.. ive not even seen if it turns on..

    My wireless internet connection is was fine until last week - now it regularly drops out or shows "limited" connection.
    Other computers including an ipad and printer are on the same connection but are not experiencing the same problems as my new Toshiba
    Can anyone assist please?

    What windows system do you have?
    Did you update the system probably from Win 8 to Win 8.1?
    Did you try to update the Wlan driver?
    If not do that!
    Mostly such symptoms could be solved by new WLan driver reinstallation or update.

  • WLAN dropping

    I have a Yoga 2 and the Wireless connection drops/reconnects about every 5 minutes.  I have updated the chipset/wireless drivers and that did not make any kind of difference.  With the unit being plugged in or not the problem still happens, and it is the only wireless device that does this, all others remain connected.  I am running Windows 8.1 do you guys any kind of suggestions I might try?

    I can connect to my hub no problem, and as a comparison I have another Laptop (dell) that never eperiences the problems I get with the Equium. Here's what happens.
    I connect no problem, then it may work fine for 5 mins or an hour, then it disconnects, I can still see the network and it will happliiy connect up again. I have tried at my friends house with a different router and the probelm remains, so its not a router problem.
    From a configuration viewpoint, I have windows managing the network connection.... ANY IDEAS??

    Did you try to update the WLan driver and the BIOS?
    In many cases this is the key to solve such WLan dropping issues.

    Hi, can anyone help, as this is driving me nuts! Have looked at your previous discussions on this topic but cannot seem to get the answer. My wlan drops out after a few mins and when using social or mail it always has the G symbol in the top left corner and not wifi. Can this be changed so when I'm at home I can use my wifi for these applications?

    Situation. I leave my phone on my desk (doing ntg), then i realized it is constantly connected to my WIFI and 3G.
    Have change the WLAN setting to - Ask when needed
    and 3G setting to - Connect when needed
    Does Nokia have any apps to control whether to use WIFI / 3G during my FB/Whatsapp/Internet Surfing?

    Just brought this from D/Smith. Wi-Fi connects fine.
    Then after a little while as I am browsing I lose the connection, or it displays as "limited".
    I then have to reconnect (which it does easily) and all is fine... but only for a while.
    Then I go through the same dance again.
    I am 3 metres from my router. Signal strength is not the issue.
    All our other WiFi devices are fine (2 iphones, 2 Ipads 3 laptops). No drop outs at all.
    I have run Windows updates until there are none left to install - so current there.
    I cannot find this laptop on the Australian toshiba website (http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support) to get toshiba specific drivers eg BIOS WLAN. The dropdown lists the make, model but when I try the operating system drop down it refuses to list any OS.
    Therefore I cannot proceed to find any drivers at all.
    I have used device manager to 'update' the wireless NIC but it reports my drivers are already the latest.

    The notebook series is very new on the market and I think this is the reason why the drivers are not available yet.
    However, I think you should try some other workarounds to check whats wrong with the WLan connection.
    First of all it would be interesting to know if the WLan drop outs happens only using the battery power or also connected to mains?
    If it happens only using battery power, the WLan cuts might be related to WLan power saving.
    Secondly you should test if you can use different WLan standards (802.11 A/B/G/N)
    Usually you can change this in device manager -> Wlan card -> properties -> Advanced tab
    Last but not least check if the issue is related to the encryption settings.
    You should connect the notebook to the unsecured (open) WLan. But do that just for testing purposes.

  • X100e Ubuntu 10.10 - install notes; HDAPS & WLAN issues

    I've installed Lubuntu 10.10 on my X100e.
    Notes on install:
    1.  10.10 is much easier to get working than 10.04.1; both booted via Unetbootin on a USB drive
    2.  Specify radeon.modeset=0, but NOT xforcevesa -- otherwise, it freezes quick.
    3.  Install fglrx with Jockey; radeon is susceptible to freezing eventually.
     It may ocassionally freeze at this point, but rarely.
    4.  Install tp_smapi_dkms; hdapsd would be nice, BUT the accelerometer drivers (thinkpad_ec & hdaps)
    appear to not work on the X100e now.
    5.  rtl8192se_pci module loads; functional, but unreliable (WLAN drops frequently, sometimes can't see AP); it seemed more reliable on battery, oddly enough.
    Anyone have comments on the accelerometer?
    I expected as much of the wireless.

  • Dhcpcd and KDE --leasetime?

    Sorry, I'm swedish and pretty tired after a long hard days of work to worry about grammar.
    Tried every suggestion at the WIKI, I've even tried adding arguments from dhcpcds manpages into the conf.d/dhcpcd file, and also dhcpcd.conf within /etc/ No matter what I do dhcpcd will always issue a lease every 1200 seconds. I'm pretty sure it does not need to get a new lease every 20 minutes for a static (set in the router "always use this IP for this device") LAN-IP adress.
    Any ideas where this setting is hiding? something by default or something within (KDE) Networkmanager I've missed? Because the amount of leases could be the cause for my connection dropping every so often during the night. I just wanna change leasetime to something like 86400 seconds. (24 hours)

    So, your real question is how to keep your connection from dropping every so often during the night.  I don't think it's a problem with dhcpcd.  Everyone else uses it without getting dropped.
    Is your WLAN dropping, or just your internet?  If it's your internet, then the problem might be your modem or ISP.  If it's your WLAN that's dropping, then it's your router.
    Never say everyone uses it without issues. Never say that, ever.
    It's that and that I also would like to keep KsystemLog a little more clean, dhcpcd so often is a little annoyance I have, 'specially while looking for other things.
    Changing it to 24 hours or even 12 hours is something I've tried to do the last 3 days now just to see if it really needs a 20 minute leasetime.
    And sure now using static IP also in rc.conf for eth0 the connection is stable as frag all the time. xD

  • GPU panics after Windows 8.1 install

    Hello all,
    I am experiencing a "funny" issue though I am not laughing...
    Am using a mid-2012 15" Macbook Pro with retina. The hardware is great and I have never had any issues with it. OS X just ***** - in so many ways - and this is my personal preference. I have had plans to install and switch to Windows 8 but never had the motivation. Now, as I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite, got the dreaded WLAN dropping issue. It is just hilarious how unresponsive Apple has been to that problem... I also have a Macbook Air which has exactly the same issue so... Decided that it is now a perfect time to ditch OS X for good and switch over to Windows on both Macbooks starting with my Pro...
    I prepared Bootcamp, Windows 8.1 install media... and did the Windows 8.1 install (still have OS X on another partition). Windows installed fine and worked OK: until I installed Bootcamp drivers. I suspect it is the NVIDIA graphics driver (installed by Bootcamp v 5.1.2) which causes Windows 8.1 to crash. The system may run for a minute or an hour. But, inevitably, it will crash to a black screen.
    Now, the funny thing is, once Windows has crashed, it will no longer restart. System will die on Windows startup logo. It gets even funnier when I reboot to boot menu and choose to boot OS X. It crashes in the apple logo boot screen, too! So neither of the OS'es boot! Several boot attempts later (even did cmd+opt+P+R a few times) the OS X finally boots. And reports that there's been a GPU panic fault...
    I have now repeated the above mentioned process (installed Windows 8 from scratch, installed graphics drivers, got Windows 8.1 to crash, got both OS'es to crash on boot, got OS X running again after several boot attempts, and - finally - OS X to report GPU Panic). Here I am, just laughing to myself hysterically... What the heck is going on?
    I need to add that I have NEVER seen a GPU panic on this Macbook before. There has been absolutely no problems with the hardware - ever. And now, with OS X running again, there are no issues whatsoever.
    So does the Bootcamp REALLY work with Windows 8.1 on this HW. And how the heck do I get rid of OS X for good?

    Just to report back on this issue: solved, but not in the way I would have liked to see.
    That friggin' Macbook pro got toast. In age of just 26 months. The GPU is fried. This first surfaced only when running Windows, as it
    uses only the external NVIDIA GPU. At first there was no problem running OS X, as my use is not very GPU intensive and most of the time the integrated intel GPU was in use and it shows no problems. Now, a few weeks later, the black screen crashes are frequent in OS X too - whenever Nvidia is switched on.
    I am so ****** off with Apple... Have left the Macbook for a "indie repair specialist" to solder in a new GPU. Should that fail the Mac goes straight into dumpster. Needless to say, will never buy another.

  • NVIDIA Drivers on Windows 8.1

    After installing Windows 8.1, I have been unable to use the NVIDIA graphics drivers. My Thinkpad W520 has NVIDIA Optimus with the Intel HD 3000 and the NVIDIA Quadro 1000M. I have tried to install various drivers, including the most recent one from Lenovo (made for Windows 8), the most recent one from the NVIDIA website, and the version in Windows Update. All three of them quit halfway and fail to install the driver. Windows Update gives this error: Code 8007000D.

    Since my initial Windows 8 installation on my W520 (installation guide linked above in this thread), I've once switched back to Windows 7, due to unrelated compatibility issues, f.e. constant WLAN drops, but I've switched completely over to Win8.1.1 now, and what I've always done regarding my GPU setup in Windows is keeping it on Optimus in BIOS, then installing the latest Optimus drivers from Lenovo: (The Win8 drivers work perfectly in 8.1), and then updating the nVidia drivers through their latest driver package. (Currently running 333.11 and I have no reason to upgrade)
    One thing to be mindful of, do not allow Windows Update to upgrade your Intel or nVidia drivers. Stick to the Lenovo drivers completely for the Intel HD and to the nVidia drivers for the Quadro. Through my experience with all my ThinkPads, allowing Windows Update to upgrade hardware drivers has lead to nothing but trouble.

    2. QUADRO DESKTOP/QUADRO NOTEBOOK DRIVER RELEASE 340
    (During the nVidia install, I recommend selecting Custom Installation and checking perform a clean install, thus eliminating any conflicts with older drivers/settings)
    Instead of Step 1., you can also allow the ThinkVantage System Update to handle all your initial driver installs before upgrading the display drivers for the Quadro, it's basically the same thing, but the TVSU does everything for you in a single swoop, and is very handy.

    I tried to configure DHCP service that will supply addresses for the wifi users.
    I configured:

       default-router 192.168.42.1
    How can I connect this DHCP service to the Dot11Radio0 interface or to the dot11 SSID??

     Configuring DHCP
    WLANs can be configured to use the same or different Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers or no DHCP server. Two types of DHCP servers are available: internal and external.
    Internal DHCP Server
    The controllers contain an internal DHCP server. This server is typically used in branch offices that do not already have a DHCP server. The wireless network generally contains 10 access points or fewer, with the access points on the same IP subnet as the controller. The internal server provides DHCP addresses to wireless clients, direct-connect access points, appliance-mode access points on the management interface, and DHCP requests that are relayed from access points. Only lightweight access points are supported. When you want to use the internal DHCP server, you must set the management interface IP address of the controller as the DHCP server IP address.
    DHCP option 43 is not supported on the internal server. Therefore, the access point must use an alternative method to locate the management interface IP address of the controller, such as local subnet broadcast, DNS, priming, or over-the-air discovery.

    Note A internal DHCP server pool will only serve the wireless clients of that controller, not clients of other controllers. Also, internal DHCP server can only serve wireless clients and not wired clients.
    Note DHCP required state can cause traffic to not be forwarded properly if a client is deauthenticated or removed. To overcome this, ensure that DHCP required state is always in disabled state.
    External DHCP Servers
    The operating system is designed to appear as a DHCP Relay to the network and as a DHCP server to clients with industry-standard external DHCP servers that support DHCP Relay, which means that each controller appears as a DHCP Relay agent to the DHCP server and as a DHCP server at the virtual IP address to wireless clients.
    Because the controller captures the client IP address obtained from a DHCP server, it maintains the same IP address for that client during intra-controller, inter-controller, and inter-subnet client roaming.
    DHCP Assignment
    You can configure DHCP on a per-interface or per-WLAN basis. The preferred method is to use the primary DHCP server address assigned to a particular interface.
    Per-Interface Assignment
    You can assign DHCP servers for individual interfaces. The management interface, AP-manager interface, and dynamic interfaces can be configured for a primary and secondary DHCP server, and the service-port interface can be configured to enable or disable DHCP servers.
    Note See the Chapter 10 "Managing Controller Software and Configurations," for information on configuring the controller's interfaces.
    Per-WLAN Assignment
    You can also define a DHCP server on a WLAN. This server will override the DHCP server address on the interface assigned to the WLAN.
    Security Considerations
    For enhanced security, we recommend that you require all clients to obtain their IP addresses from a DHCP server. To enforce this requirement, all WLANs can be configured with a DHCP Addr. Assignment Required setting, which disallows client static IP addresses. If DHCP Addr. Assignment Required is selected, clients must obtain an IP address via DHCP. Any client with a static IP address is not be allowed on the network. The controller monitors DHCP traffic because it acts as a DHCP proxy for the clients.
    Note WLANs that support management over wireless must allow management (device-servicing) clients to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. See the "Using Management over Wireless" section for instructions on configuring management over wireless.
    If slightly less security is tolerable, you can create WLANs with DHCP Addr. Assignment Required disabled. Clients then have the option of using a static IP address or obtaining an IP address from a designated DHCP server.
    Note DHCP Addr. Assignment Required is not supported for wired guest LANs.
    You are also allowed to create separate WLANs with DHCP Addr. Assignment Required disabled; then define the primary / secondary DHCP server as 0.0.0.0 on the interface assigned to the WLAN. These WLANs drop all DHCP requests and force clients to use a static IP address. Note that these WLANs do not support management over wireless connections.

    Note If you want to specify a static IP address for an access point rather than having one assigned automatically by a DHCP server, see the "Configuring a Static IP Address on a Lightweight Access Point" section for more information.
    This section provides both GUI and CLI instructions for configuring DHCP.
    Using the GUI to Configure DHCP
    To configure DHCP using the GUI, follow these steps:
    Step 1 Follow the instructions in the "Using the GUI to Configure the Management, AP-Manager, Virtual, and Service-Port Interfaces" section or "Using the GUI to Configure Dynamic Interfaces" section to configure a primary DHCP server for a management, AP-manager, or dynamic interface that will be assigned to the WLAN.
    Note When you want to use the internal DHCP server, you must set the management interface IP address of the controller as the DHCP server IP address.
    Step 2 Choose WLANs to open the WLANs page.
    Step 3 Click the ID number of the WLAN for which you wish to assign an interface. The WLANs > Edit (General) page appears.
    Step 4 On the General tab, unselect the Status check box and click Apply to disable the WLAN.
    Step 5 Re-click the ID number of the WLAN.
    Step 6 On the General tab, choose the interface for which you configured a primary DHCP server to be used with this WLAN from the Interface drop-down list.
    Step 7 Choose the Advanced tab to open the WLANs > Edit (Advanced) page.
    Step 8 If you want to define a DHCP server on the WLAN that will override the DHCP server address on the interface assigned to the WLAN, select the DHCP Server Override check box and enter the IP address of the desired DHCP server in the DHCP Server IP Addr text box. The default value for the check box is disabled.
    Note The preferred method for configuring DHCP is to use the primary DHCP address assigned to a particular interface instead of the DHCP server override.
    Note DHCP Server override is applicable only for the default group.
    Step 9 If you want to require all clients to obtain their IP addresses from a DHCP server, select the DHCP Addr. Assignment Required check box. When this feature is enabled, any client with a static IP address is not allowed on the network. The default value is disabled.
    Note DHCP Addr. Assignment Required is not supported for wired guest LANs.
    Step 10 Click Apply to commit your changes.
    Step 11 On the General tab, select the Status check box and click Apply to reenable the WLAN.
    Step 12 Click Save Configuration to save your changes.
    Using the CLI to Configure DHCP
    To configure DHCP using the CLI, follow these steps:
    Step 1 Follow the instructions in the "Using the GUI to Configure the Management, AP-Manager, Virtual, and Service-Port Interfaces" section or "Using the GUI to Configure Dynamic Interfaces" section to configure a primary DHCP server for a management, AP-manager, or dynamic interface that will be assigned to the WLAN.
    Step 2 Disable the WLAN by entering this command:
    config wlan disable wlan_id
    Step 3 Specify the interface for which you configured a primary DHCP server to be used with this WLAN by entering this command:
    config wlan interface wlan_id interface_name
    Step 4 If you want to define a DHCP server on the WLAN that will override the DHCP server address on the interface assigned to the WLAN, enter this command:
    config wlan dhcp_server wlan_id dhcp_server_ip_address
    Note The preferred method for configuring DHCP is to use the primary DHCP address assigned to a particular interface instead of the DHCP server override. If you enable the override, you can use the show wlan command to verify that the DHCP server has been assigned to the WLAN.
    Step 5 Reenable the WLAN by entering this command:

  • Satellite Pro A200 PSAE4E - WLan speed regularly drops out

    Does anyone know what causes my laptop to lose wifi on a regular basis? It is a Satellite Pro A200 PSAE4E running on XP. I purchased the laptop new back in February and it came with Vista loaded but the wifi kept dropping out and was advise to swap to XP as it was more stable.
    When the wifi drops, the Wirless Connection Icon disappears completely from the sys tray as though it never existed although the wifi light just under the front edge remains on. Looking in the network connection in the control panel the wifi is not listed.
    I have to shut down the laptop and reboot so that I can carry on working online.
    I've downloaded the latest driver for the Atheros AR5007EG and I rang Toshiba support.
    Anyone got any ideas - I'm disappointed with the performance of the WLan.

    Ive got the same model, and had the same issue with the Wireless Card today (otherwise its been fine for 4 months). I was confused by the card not appearing in the device manager - like it was totally wiped from the system. I rebooted a few times and it did still not appear.
    Left the laptop and did something else for a while, and on rebooting the card reappeared and the Wireless connection was remade.
    I also have the same question: What causes all trace of a device to disappear - rather than the card to be shown but with an exclaimation mark showing there was some sort of conflict which might help us to sort the cause of the problem.
    Have you had any help from anywhere else?

  • Qosmio G30-182: Drops Wlan connection & then cannot find any Wlans

    I currently use driver v.11.1.0.100 for Intel(R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG, which is the latest driver I found here at Toshiba.
    My problem is that I randomly lose my wifi connection, both at my home wlan (using WEP protection) and at my university (WPA-Enterprise). After the connection drops, it is impossible to find any wlan nodes unless I reboot.
    Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? It is kind of frustrating having to reboot randomly because I need my network connection!

    There could be different reasons why the WLan connection is not stable;
    - There could be an compatibility issue between the router and WLna card.
    - The WLan driver is not up to date -> in such case update the WLan driver!
    - If you use Vista OS -> install al Vista OS updates and fixes
    - The weak WLan signal could has a bad influence and the Wlan card would disconnect
    - Check the ALL the settings in the WLan card Advanced options like mentioned [here |http://209.167.114.38/support/techsupport/tsbs/all/-TSB001435.htm]
    - Check if the same issue would appears using other WLan cards (USB WLan stick)

  • WLAN client dropping problem

    My customer is using WLC4400(4.0.179.11) and LAP1130(12.3jx1). Before converting IOS to LWAPP, the WLAN service is not problem.
    But after changing to LWAPP based,the customer is complain about disconnecting problem.
    Intel centrino and other vendor's wlan cards are dropping, cisco wlan cards are no problem.
    After all we have to fall back to IOS version. Is there any Bug report about WLC4400?

    There are some issues with the Intel adapters. I would try downloading the latest driver version to see if that helps. You can navigate to the Intel support page and view the documented disconnect issues.
