WLAN extension between buildings

Ladies & Gentlemen,
I would appreciate possible help with my project as illustrated in the attachment.
I have 2 commercial blgs and a "home office" bldg, as described below:
BLDG A - Home office with internet access (Satellite) and WRT54G wireless router with optional, better antennas. This office has a desktop and a wirelessly connected laptop (in a Windows wireless network labeled "Office1"). OS: Windows XP.
BLDG B - "Bed and Breakfast Inn" with current wireless access to the WRT54G router for Guests (service offered to Guests on a convenience/reasonable usage basis)
BLDG C - Retail Store with a Main Office Computer (Windows 2000 Pro) with its own wired LAN connection to several point of sale (POS) computers/workstations.
All 3 buildings are located in a triangular pattern, about 150 ft from each other - clear line of sight
- Bridge or otherwise wirelessly link BLDGS A and C to allow the Internet connection in BLDG A to be available to BLDG C (BLDG C also does Money Wiring, and other services over the internet - it only has a dialup connection for now - No DSL in our town!)
- Possibility to have Main Office VComputer in BLDG C able to access Internet via BLDG A, while remaining in its own wired LAN with the POS computers - LAN labeled "Office1"
- Is this possible? Can indeed Main Office Computer in BLDG C be "on two different networks" (note: the POS computers in BLDG C do not have to have access to the Internet. Would Main Office Computer in BLDG C have to have two NICs?
- Anything else?
- I so far understand that a pair of WAP54G could be set up as bridges between BLDGs A and C. I am confused about how to make Main Office Computer in BLDG connect to the Internet via Home Office Computer in BLDG A.
Thanks for ANY help!

so you opened the bt socket and added wires to the terminals or just got a plugin type extension?
do you have anything (other than the extension plugged into the bt socket?
is it just he bb or the bb and the phone plugged into the extension?
ok i'll asume for now that you went to argos or homebase and bought the 10 quid extension kit, which has a plug for the bt socket and a wire which you then connect to the back of the new surface mountalbe phone box.
at the bt socket you have the bb filter and into that you have the extension and then phone connected, the phone works but bb doesnt,
failing that you have connected the extension line to the bt socket along with the phone, and plugged the filter into the other end of hte extension with the phone,
either of those senarios the problem is easy, you need to plug the extension into the bt socket, plug the bb filter into the back of it then phone etc, on the other end of the extension you need another filter, and into this you need to plug in the modem cable
hope that makes sense to you

  • Create line extension between two SPA-3102

I`m having problems to create a line extension between two SPA-3102
I have one SPA-3102 connected to an analog PBX system with IP 192.168.0.201, and the other SPA-3102 with analog phone and IP 192.168.0.200
I succesfully setup them to make a call from the first to the second
But I couldn`t setup them to make a call from the second (192.168.0.200) and give me the dialtone of the PBX connected to the first SPA-3102 (192.168.0.201).
I could setup a hot line on the second SPA-3102 (192.168.0.200) and call to 192.168.0.201, but it doesn`t take the line to hear the pstn dialtone.
I saw many answers about this problem, but no one resolve the problem, i have the latest firmware. please, anyone could help me and if it`s possible to work please send me all the configuration needed.
    Thanks again

    Hi Jeremy,
I have a similar problem, I have one PSTN line (say Line1) with free minutes to mobiles, so its good for outgoing calls. The other line (say Line2) which i have is acually VoIP but it comes with its own hardware (magicJack if you have heard) so I can't use a SIP client and have to use the supplied Hw client, but it does give me an option to connect any normal phone to this magicJack (i suppose that would make it a fxs port). Now this magicJack is cheap for other people to call me.
I want to find a solution so that all the calls I receive on Line2 get forwarded to my mobile number via Line1. And if I receive any calls on Line1 they should be treated normally (my home phone rings). Do you have some idea how I can achieve this with minimal spend? Thanx

  • 1262/3500 for WLAN between buildings

    Hi,
I currently have WLC 5508 and a few campuses with LAP 1142, each with 2-3 vlan. Now one of our campuses have a building thas is a bit far away and needs network (wired). We can't get fiber or TP-cable there in a good way.
So the plan is to get two 1262 or 3500 with AIR-ANT5160NP-R antennas and get a wireless link working between the campus and the building. And then connect one of the AP's to a switch in the other building to provide it with wired network.
The problem is that I can't find information on how to do it. Do you have any config guides on this? Should both APs be in autonomus mode?
I probably only need to have 1 VLAN in the other building but I am not sure yet. Is there a problem with transfering several VLAN over the WLAN-link?
    /Philip

#wirelessly wgb can extend WLC connected wired/wireless network to Wired and Wireless devices connected behind wgb.
#mesh can extend WLC connected wired/wireless network to wireless devices connected behind mesh AP and also it can bridge multiple wired network behind Mesh AP to other Mesh APs in that group wirelessly.
multiple vlan is supported on Mesh AP, it is just like extending local mode access point through wireless link.
wgb supports multiple vlan from certain new WLC versions.

  • Recommended products for connection between buildings 50 meters apart

    Hi
I have a client that requires a connection between their two buildings 50 meters apart. If possible they require bandwidth up to 54Mbps. Currently they only have a switch in either building.
Can anyone recommend a solution for this? Will they need two bridges or do they need 1 bridge and 1 AP?
    Many thanks

In europe the best way to do this is to use a cisco 2 x 1300 if you are in the states you can use 2 x 1400. However the 1300 is more flexible.

  • WLAN Moving between office locations Mobile non-windows

    Hi Guys,
Another one for you all - we have several offices running seperate WLAN controllers various models and software versions. We have the same SSID in each office. We dont use WCS/NCS as yet. We are using MS NPS Radius/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 for authentication of users.
Now users on MS Domain windows laptops visit other offices they connect without any issues. Group Policy push WLAN profile.
However - from IOS and Andriod devices - they will not connect unless (in all cases) they re create the profile on the mobile device. Any pointers as to what might be happening here? I know the above is vague - but any suggestions of where to start investigating?
    Cheers

From Cisco Guide: "Under normal roaming conditions, client devices  join  a wireless LAN and are anchored to the first controller that they   contact. If a client roams to a different subnet, the controller to   which the client roamed sets up a foreign session for the client with   the anchor controller."
I'm assuming a couple things: 1) You are using the same mobility group name at both locations/controllers. 2) that this shared WLAN/SSID is assigned a local interface at the controller location with different subnets assigned for each location.  To the controllers, you just "moved" from one ap/controller to another ap/controller in the same group.
Make sure your mobility groups, specifically software versions, are interoperable given that you said you are running different software versions.  Search for Cisco Wireless Solutions Software Compatibility Matrix. The latest was just released.
    Try this test:
    1) Connect from location A with your mobile device.  Note the ip address provided from dhcp_discovery.
    2) Don't shut your wireless service off.  Just jump in your car and drive to location B. I'm guessing it's not that far...maybe less that the default idle timeout set on your location A controller.
    3) At location B, ensure you are connected to the same WLAN again.  Verify the ip address you are provided. Is it the same ip address you had at location A?
    4) Login to controller at location B
Look for your client ip address in the controller.  Specifically look for "foreign export" under role? (i this that's the section  but can't confirm as I don't have access to a controller now).
    Results should dictate a direction.

  • Illustrator extension persistence between close and open again

I'm creating a extension in eclipse that redirect the panel to one web where I login and i've the possibility to login and remember the user.
All works fine but if I close illustrator and open again, I think that it doesn't save this information and I must login again.
I'm using windows 8 and chrome as default browser.
It's something about cookies configuration?. In chrone are activated.
How can I activate persistence of the variables from my extension between close and open illustrator? It is a web app.

    Hi,
CEP (which contains CEF for HTML5 extensibility support) only supports session cookies at this time.

  • Dual WLAN links with load balancing and failover

    Hello,
I am in a scenario where I am in need of two WLAN links between two buildings. There is a distance of 100-150 meters and minimum bandwidth required for both links together is 300Mbit/s. The thing is that both links should use load balancing between them and if one of them goes down, the last one should act as fail over.
I have been looking at Cisco Aironet 1550 Series though I have no idea what is needed to get load balancing and fail over to work, so I am searching here for suggestions on what equipment is needed.
    Something like this:
                  ---------------WLAN Link 150-300Mbit/s-----------
Building                    Load balancing and fail over               Building
                  ---------------WLAN Link 150-300Mbit/s-----------
    Thanks in advance!

    Several points.
When an AP is doing 300Mbps, that's NOT the real throughput you have. It's the data rate at which traffic is sent.
All in all, if your AP/client are doing 300MBps association, you will see max 150Mbps with a file transfer.
From there, I'm not even sure that 11n supports dual spatial streams over such long distances (you can't have multipath in open air) so afaik the 1550 only do 150Mbps association rate (=dual channel with one spatial stream). That means 75Mbps real speed.
I couldn't test a 1550 yet so don't take my word for official statement but that's what I'm thinking.
the wireless links will always be both up and they can be on different channels.
That will then mean that it will be "as if" the remote switch was connected directly to the central switch (where WLC is connected) as the WLC tunnels traffic all the way. So you could do a spanning-tree config on this one I guess to block the port onthe remote switch.

  • VLANS and WLANS are they compatable

    Hi
We currently have a campus wide switched network consisting of Cisco 6500 and 5000 series catalyst switches in the core feeding 1900 series catalyst switches at the edge.
We use DHCP and VMPS to determine IP address and VLAN information for each host as they are connected to the switch and booted.
We have just purchased a range of aironet devices including access points, bridges and client adaptors.
My question is. Are the access point and bridges VLAN aware will I be able to seamlessly intergrate them into the network. Also would I be able to use a pair of bridges as an emergency repair option?? The senario is optic fibre trunk between 6500 and 1900 switch is dug up will take days for permanent repair, solution to install WLAN point to point link between buildings and use this for the trunk link. Is this possible ??

Current APs are not VLAN aware. Without an additional mechanism, all of your wireless users will be on the same VLAN. (Which ideally should be isolated from all others and connected through a router or firewall to allow you to better address security on the WLAN.)
A pair of 350 bridges can serve as a backup to a copper or fiber trunk - if it is appropriate to have a half-duplex connection with a maximum of 6Mbps throughput serve as a backup.
    Other options include:
    - 802.11a with a maximum actual throughput of 35Mbps in proprietary mode. The max. distance is less than 500 meters.
    - Bonded triple-bridge config to get an aggregate through put of 18Mbps using EtherChannel.
    - 5.8GHz equipment at 10 to 430Mbps full-duplex (a much more expensive option).
    - Free Space Optics at 10 to 622Mbps with strict distance limits.

  • ASA IPSEC VPN Design Question; ARP Between ASA

I"ve a requirement to put two ASA between two sites. The second site has hosts within the same network as the first site (conflict of fundamental routing principles). Can you put an ASA inline between the router and distribution switch at each site, setup an IPSEC VPN and not have issue? I thought we could have the distro switch terminate in the DMZ interface setup as a layer 2 interface in a vlan with a vlan int in the same network as the vlan int on the ASA DMZ interface on the ASA at the other site. Will this work? I guess the biggest concern is how to get layer 2 (arp) to work so hosts/servers can find each other between buildings and not get dropped on a layer 3 interface that doesn't see the distant network on a different egress interface.
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Matt,
AFAIK - what you are describing is layer 2 tunneling, providing layer 2 networks from two speperate locations.
The only way I am aware of how to provide this - does NOT invlove ASA's or VPN's suing layer 3. You could do this over MPLS or a transparent layer 2 pt-pt circuit.
Perhaps another netpro has done this or knows how - I did hear of someone bridging thru a GRE tunnel, not sure if that is a viable option or actually works.

  • How can I extend an Airport Express in WLAN mode with an additional Airport Express box

I'm trying to extend the existing WLAN with an additonal Airport Express box. I read through a bunch of comment throughout the communities here but didn't find what I'm looking for.
    My actual Installation consists:
A Time Capsule attached to the Internet router which set up my 1. WLAN range
This WLAN has been extended with an Airport Express BOX creating my extended 2. WLAN range
Now I intend the extend the 2nd WLAN of the Airport Express BOX with an additional Airport Express (creating a 3rd WLAN range) but don't find a way on how to set it up correctly.
The physical situation of the location dosen't allow me to add / replace cabeling (Ethernet or similar). If there is any chance I'd like to avoid power-line connections. And, I'm aware of the impacted bandwith on WLAN / WLAN extensions, but can deal with this.
Regards and thanks for any advice

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
    1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
    2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

  • Infinity extension connector types ?

Had BT Infinity for a while now and all OK(ish). On installation I had a 6 meter extension between the master socket and the Openreach modem fitted as I wanted the modem (and Home Hub) at the other side of the room.
I now don't need the extension as the modem will now sit next to the master socket. Problem: I unplugged the extension from the master socket and tried to plug the modem straight into the master socket > problem was it wont go in as it's not the same connector on the master socket as the socket on the end of extension. Hope that makes sense. This means I have to have the 6 meter extension lead in there.
Can somebody explain the connectors (RJ11/RJ45) to me and what I need to get around this. Is there a small lead that I can get with the correct connector to go straight from my OR modem to master socket?

A simple dsl cable with rj11 plugs on both end will do the job.

  • J9 wlan connection handling - help needed

I wrote an application which is running on phone and communicates with a server. I can open sockets, and communicate with the server (read/write data on chanel), but after ferw minutes/hours(depend on trafic) the wlan connection between the client and server breakes. The problem is, that after an exception is thrown, I close th connection and try to open a new connection, but can't. It seems, that somewhere in the phone's operatin system the connection is not closed.
My question is , that is there anybody who meet this problem? The second question is that kind of workaround can be used to reconnect to the server?

    hi,
have you found a solution? I have nearly the same problem now...
My application runs on windows mobile 6.1 with IBM j9. Connecting to the WLAN inclusive VPN works well on the device, browsing with internet explorer is no problem and if necessary the WLAN and VPN connections are established automatically if needed.
But when I try to invoke a webservice-request from within my java-application the connection isn't established. (Doing the webservice-request while a there is an existing connection everything works fine, e.g. when starting the application right after browsing in internet explorer).
Probably I have to tell the connection manager on wm6 to connect - but how do I implement that?
For .Net I found the following:
    - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms849587.aspx
Can anybody give me a hint, please?

  • Toggle file extension with Automator

I am looking for the easiest way to automate toggling a file extension between two options. It needs to be the easiest possible solution as it is intended for Architects (specifically working in Revit) who are not the most technically savvy users.
My first thought was to use Hazel. Something along the lines of watching the folder in question (all the files that need to be toggled are in a single folder and its subfolders) and activate Hazel when the label changes to red. the rules would change an RFT file to RFA and RFA to RFT and put the label back to none. Sadly, I don't think I can change the label on Windows files, so that doesn't work. And the delay waiting for Hazel to process would be frustrating.
So then I started looking at Automator, and I can easily do one or the other, but I am having trouble with getting a conditional to work. My workflow right now will Filter by one extension and Replace Text in the Extension Only with the opposite. What I want is to filter by RFT or RFA and then do one of two Renames depending on the value of the Extension, but passing the full file path on to the Rename.
I know I can do this in AppleScript, but ideally I would like to make it work in Automator as this is an envoronment where more of the target audience might experiment and expand on the idea, whereas writing code is unlikely to be something of interest.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Trying to extend the WLAN range by adding an additional Airport Extreme second gen with Ethernet as backchannel.

    Hi,
I'm trying to extend the coverage of my home WLAN by adding an additional airport express. I want to use Ethernet as the back channel but whatever I do this ends up in a situation where the WLAN dies completely. I have been able to extend the range by using WLAN to WLAN extension but this reduced the bandwidth a lot.
I have an VDSL modem and uses a airport express as access router. with this unit operating by iteself everything works fine.
It is when I add a second airport express (both second gen) that I get in trouble.
Any idea of what goes wrong?

It is best to set up the extra AE to create a wireless network. You should use the same name (SSID) as you did when setting up the first one. Also use the same password and encryption.
Put the network channel selection on automatic or select different channels for both networks.
