WLAN in combination with company network.

Afternoon,
I work for a company where everyone works on a domain with an old server (NT4), DHCP enabled, so everyone on the domain gets an IP assigned.
Since there is no network connection in the meeting room, the management team wanted a wireless network so they could still access their PPTs and other files without having to resort to using USB-sticks. So they bought a Wireless Router WRT54GS for me to install.
Here comes the problem, how do I get this router to work?
I installed the router, the wireless PCMCIA cards and the laptop finds a wireless network thats guaranteed mine called "Nephesus", when I try to connect the setup gives me a screen in which I have to fill in a passphrase. I wonder why cuz I haven't been in the setup of my router at all.
Anyway, another problem is that the domain hands out IP adresses depending on the location, it always starts with 10.?.?.?, then 35-40 depending on location (10.37.?.?), so the config page of the router won't be at 192.168.1.1 as far as I know.
I would like some assistance with this problem since I don't really know much about wireless networking at all. A step-by-step guide with some advice would really help me out.

Ok, follow-up ont this matter, I would still value some feedback...
I used one network jack from our own network and plugged it in the Internet jack of the router, wired my own computer physically to the router and have a laptop with a Notebook Adapter.
I used WEP since the other security methods just didn't work (didn't use MAC filter yet, which I want to use eventually, but why the rest doesnt work?). Anyway, my routers IP address is 192.168.1.1 (which is normal), my wired comp 192.168.1.100 and my laptop 192.168.1.101. I want to change the IP address of the router to something static which fits in the network, so I changed it to 10.131.37.5 (a free IP address in the domain), I saved settings and the utility says release and renew DHCP. When I try to connect to that IP after, I get a time out.
Something else that bothers me, I can't use the windows wireless connection screen for managing settings for my conn, I always have to use the tool from Linksys, which annoys me a lot.
What I want to get to eventually is just that the router extends the already existing network with a wireless section which also uses the same rules as the existing network. In which I can also access the servers and can use outlook (this will solve itself prolly as soon as the router is part of the network).

As per your issue..i think your company is using validation for your business area avoiding miss usage.
In this case once created new business area you have to update new business area in GGB0 T.code at company code level
So go to GGB0 and click on Financial accounting -> line item -> here select your company code and click on business area here enter your new business area and save it after that come back one step and select your company code go to Validation at menu bar select transport.

Can't connect to company network anymore.

Hi guys I need help getting online with company network. I use to be able to connect to the internet through ethernet but all of a sudden it will not connect at my office. I can go over to the main office and it will still connect. The other office computers will connect at my office but not my macbook, it shows self assigned ip address and may not connect. I've tried some other things from other post but nothing is working. Please Help, Greg.

This seems to be happening to a lot of people recently. Not sure if this was after the patch or what.
The only way I've been getting around this so far is going to Firewall and setting it to allow all incoming traffic, wait for it to connect and then reset it back to what you had. I would be able to connect most of the day and then would have to do this again the next day.
This is definitely annoying. I'm not sure what's causing this. I hope they get enough complaints to get this fixed.

i m not able to connect to my netgear dg834n with my new iphone.
every time i´m trying it i get this error:
unable to join the network "xyz"
tests i did:
- restart of iphone
- reboot of iphone
- switching of security (and mac address control) on netgear
- tryout of all wlan security combinations on netgear
- turned netgear off and tried again
- dhcp and manal settings on iphone for tcp/ip (netgear has dhcp enabled)
i m using the newest available firmware for dg834n
any help ?

Coincidence or just just a factor of wear and tear. I've tried 3 calls to Apple and they say the phone needs to be replaced.
A bunch of youTube videos watched and instructions followed to no avail.
It seems that the wireless portion of the circuit board connection is prone to cracking in the iPhone. I'm finding references to this gremlin dating all the way back to 2008. I'm wondering if there is a connection with high swings in temperature of surroundings. One clue to whether cracking exists on Circuit board connections is to pop your phone into a freezer for about 10 minutes and see if this permanently or temporarily allows the phone to be able to connect. . .
The only successful fix I've seen is reflowing the Circuit board by putting it in the oven but that takes a couple of shots of good vodka before seriously trying that. . .There are plenty of Google links on both the preparation and the fix. . .8^]

Is an Air 13,3 (1.8 Core i7) in combination with an apple tv 2 (with xbmc) and a new time capsule a good combo to have a flawless mediacentre / network?

Slow logon with domain credentials when not on company network

Hello,
I have my MacBook Pro bound to the domain. When I am connected to the company network via a network cable, login is at normal speed. If I unplug the network cable, reboot, then try to login it takes minutes to get to my desktop. I'm guessing that it's looking for a domain controller or something. I'm doing this to simulate what it would be like if someone was away from the office.
I have another MacBook Pro that acts the same way.
Our domain is a .local domain. If this is the reason it's taking so long, is there a work around? Or a way to make it go through this process a little faster? Sometimes it takes as long at 2.5 minutes.

I called into Apple support since no one has responded on this.
He had two suggestions.
1) Input our domain servers as the DNS servers in Network preferences. This works great except for when I'm wanting to use the Internet. It, of course, doesn't resolve any names to be able to go to websites. (EDIT: What I mean is that when I'm at another location it doesn't resolve names. If I manually input the DNS servers on my ethernet adapter, it will only resolve the name if those servers are available. When I'm not in the office, they aren't available. This speeds the login time up, but causes other issues.)
2) Change our domain to something different than .local. We just can't do that at this time.
I tried something that appears to work on this MacBook, but on the other one that is having the same problem it doesn't work. I manually input our domain.local in the Search Domains right by the DNS options in network settings. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what that effects. So maybe it's completely happenstance? I'm not sure why it appears to work on one and not the other. When I say 'work' I mean that it only takes a few seconds to log in rather than minutes.
The only difference between the two is processor speed.
Any thoughts or can someone explain to me what affect manually filling out the Search Domain field would have?

Multi company network

Hi!
I’m asked to setup a multi company network. There will be approximately 4-8 small companies around 8-15 people in each company.
These companies will share some resources as printers and probably a nas. Furthermore they will have their own wlan ssid trunked from E0/7 to the AP.
Thinking about using asa5505 security plus license. AP will be this one AIR-SAP1602I-E-K9. As of now to allow more ports for users I will just hock up small simple switches to each Ethernet port on the ASA. When there are no more room I will buy a vlan capable switch.
Each company per vlan.
company1 Vlan10 192.168.10.0/24
company2 Vlan20 192.168.20.0/24
company3 Vlan30 192.168.30.0/24
company4 Vlan40 192.168.40.0/24
Shared Vlan100 192.168.100.0/24, printer ip 192.168.100.10
The companies should be separated from each other and only able to access the internet and the printer vlan. I got public ip in a 248 subnetmask giving me 6 addresses.
Company1 need to have 1 private ip. Also given ability to access their desktop PC from home. Other companies could share the same public IP.
Copmany2 will host a web server so it also needs a public ip accessible from outside.
Setting up Vlan and interfaces is no problem. The problems for me starts when creating NAT rules. Guess I will not use same-security-traffic permit inter-interface and use ACL.
How should you managed the traffic flow?

You're on the right track.
One VLAN per company, each assigned to an interface, no same-security-traffic. Make them all security level 100. Make the printer VLAN 90.
Create a remote access VPN for company 1 with split tunnel and only give them route to their assigned network. Make the nat rule for them as nat(company1,outside) with dynamic translation to the outside interface. Make separate nat rules for the other companies as well with dynamic translation to one of your other public IPs. Make one specific port forwarding NAT rule for the company 2 webserver.

A Microsoft member said it would be better to raise it in technet.

The hosted network mode has been set to allow.
The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed.

Please note this is a Surface Pro 3 problem as it works on a Surface Pro 2 running Windows 8.1.
This problem has been reported to Microsoft by me and I was told "the developers are working on it." That was six months ago. I see posts going back a year saying the problem was reported to Microsoft Support.
When will this be fixed?

If you provide case numbers, it would be helpful in escalating further. And more
specifically, it might help someone from Microsoft determine IF the issue has
been escalated. While Microsoft has been doing work on the wifi driver for
nearly the entire time since the SP3 was released, there is no information
anywhere as to whether this bug is known or not.

ASA 5505 Site-to-Site VPN with multiple networks

Hi,
I have 2 Cisco ASAs 5505 in the different places with a created connection Site-to-Site VPN. It’s working fine in the networks where they are (10.1.1.0/24 and 10.2.1.0/24 respectively).
Additionally to the ASA1 are connected two subnets: 10.1.2.0/24 and 10.1.3.0/24 and the ASA2 is connected to one subnet: 10.2.2.0/24
A problem is when I’m trying to get to a host in the subnet behind the ASA2 from the subnet behind the ASA1 and vice versa.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's all about the crypto ACL. You have to combine all networks behind ASA1 with all networks behind ASA2. You can use object-groups for that to handle it. What's the config of your crypto ACL?

Setting up a new company network

My company has about 20 employees and is growing quickly. We are moving to a new office in a few months, and I would like to setup the network there to be able to handle the growth.
Specifically, I would like to buy a router that can handle around a dozen ipsec tunnels at whatever our connection speed ends up being (at least 50Mbps) and also L2TP for those travelling. The remote end of the ipsec tunnels would be the homes of engineers, so we would also want some relatively cheap routers that we can setup in those homes.
Additionally, we already have a 2504 wireless controller and a dozen aironet 1042N APs. Part of the goal here is that the APs in peoples' home offices can still be managed by the wireless controller.
What are my options here for both the main office router, and then the small routers for remote locations? Our CEO is pretty stingy, so I'm looking to do this a cheaply as possible, while still doing it 'right.'

You're probably thinking of FlexConnect (using H-REAP protocol). It has various modes as I understand it and lots of caveats to watch out for. Probably one for the wireless section.

However, you might think about whether or not you want centralised authentication (i.e. HQ) or local authentication (i.e. branch). And whether you want centralised switching or local switching of data packets: -

If the WAN link fails, then any authenticated clients can continue to operate. Any re-authentication of existing clients or authentication of new clients is not possible without the WAN link.
Local authentication and local switching means the branch AP has local access to an authentication server and switches data packets locally. There are two modes available, 'standalone' and 'connected' mode. Of course, they vary slightly in operation

Problem in loading images when i am connected on company network

Hi friends, I am using firefox since last 4 months on my windows 8 pro laptop.but since last month I am facing problem in loading images when i am connected on company network but same time it is working fine with ie10. But all these thinks are working well at my home when I am using broadband.

I don't completely understand your issue. Does this issue occur on 1 network and does not occur on another? Have you tried clearing cache and cookies and making sure your plugins are up to date?

If an airport Extreme is combined with one or more airport expresses, what is the max number of connections? Is it just 50, or 50 plus 10 for each Express?

I would like to set up a wireless network with an Airport Extreme, plus one or more Airport Expresses to extend the range. I know an Extreme supports 50 users and an Express 10 users, but when they're combined does the number of users go up according to the number of Expresses combined with the Extreme, or is it limited at 50 no-matter how many Expresses are added?

50 users + 10 users + 10 users + etc. I am assuming that each Express device will be connected using a wired Ethernet connection.
But, unless you have a truly fantastic Internet connection with your ISP, things are going to be mighty slow on the network since all users split up the available bandwidth.
So, if you have a 50 Mbps Internet connection, 50 users will have approximately 1 Mbps of bandwidth to work with. Few of us would consider having a 1 Mbps service in our home, even if we only had one computer....way too slow.

Can't Connect to our Company Network

Good morning! I'm new to MAC computers so bare with me. I'm using a MAC at work and I'm not able to access the company Network. I've had our IT lady take a look with no luck. Is there anyone out there that can help?

We'll need more details about your situation to help you. Are you trying to connect wirelessly or through an ethernet cable? Does your network use DHCP?
Does your network administrator have the network MAC-locked (this doesn't refer to Macintosh computers; each device on a network has what's called a MAC address. It's a number that looks like 00-12-34-56-A7-4D and it identifies the device.) If the network is MAC-locked, you'll need to add your computer's MAC address to the list of approved network devices before it will connect. Restricting hardware on a network with a MAC-lock is fairly common in the corporate world.

In light of Mozilla refusing to support free speech I would like to delete it off my company network

How can I be assured that it has been actually deleted off all workstations, with no files left?
We have too many to individually check and we need to unsure Firefox is totally removed from use.

What boycott? I asked a direct question but received a canned political answer. Now I see the problem there.
I merely asked for technical advice to insure all the files are removed from my company network. Is there a link for network administrators re removal instructions? If so, can you send it?

Company network design

Hi guys,
I am a student from Belgrade and currently i am working on company network implementation, and i have few problems.
1. I have to make company regional center which looks like this:
- Company has two buildings in one town:
- First building has four departments (finance, development, IT, marketing) and server farm with five servers (one for each department and one shared server)
- Second building also has that four departments and only one server (backup server)
Requests:
a. Each department should see its server without routing
b. All other traffic should go through router
How can i achieve this?
I have sent you screenshot of my network with backbone and one city connected (BGD), with redundant routers on backbone and with its two locations.
Also, i am not sure if i need separate router for each location.
2. I need to add main office and branch offices to Houston router:
-Main office should be connected to backbone and it should contain another router which is connected to branch offices via serial links.
Requests:
a. How should i design this?

It is my university project, but actually, i am not that lazy, i would like to do it on my own, but i am not 100% sure how to do that.
Ok then, i will tell you my ideas and i hope you will tell me if it is right.
1. As you can see in the attached picture i have built backbone (4 routers named NewYork1, NewYork2 (i needed router redundancy for NewYork), Houston and LA) and New York network, which should be one OSPF area.
There are two company buildings in NY on separate locations. Both buildings have 4 departments - floors (finance, marketing, development and IT).
First building structure:
- On each floor i have one department and in the basement is the company data-center (with 4 servers for each department and one shared server) and DMZ.
Second building structure:
- On each floor i have one department and in the basement is the backup server.
Requests for NY:
a. Each department should access its server without routing.
My solution:
- As you can se on the pic i attached, i put a router in each location (routers named NewYork-Location1 and NewYork-Location2), in order to divide the network into two LANs.
- Every department, servers room and DMZ has its switch so i can add more devices.

- As i know this is possible only on location 1 if i configure VLANs (one VLAN for department and dedicated server). Traffic from location 2 departments to dedicated routers must go through router. Is there some other way to achieve this? can vlan be made on remote sites?
