WLAN in E61i

I have observed that the symbol for WLAN active always stays on the top right corner of my mobile. I have tried everything from switching off the WLAN scanning, removing all the access points, restart etc. Does anyone has the same problem. Please note that there are 2 symbols for WLAN,one (looks like the 4 squares) meaning WLAN scanning is set to ON, and the second (lie a small flower) is for availaibility of WLAN network (with or without a lock). I am getting the trouble of getting the small flower always on my mobile.

Ohhhh Buddy
I guess u must have installed BlackBerry Connect software. This flower like Ikon indicated blackberry is installed. Blackberry connect has nothing to whether service is active or no. Just it will be there. Now ur handset must have one extra folder of Blackberry connect so just go in tht and uninstall the software. Keep in mind that u will not be able to use blackberry service till next time u again install it.
Go ahead
Hope this will solve issue if not again reply

  • [E61i] PSK WLAN key isn't saved, why?

    Hi there,
I want to know, why it isn't possible to store / save PSK WLAN keys for WLAN networks I regularly access as in Windows??
I find this very annoying. Is there any extension to change this behaviour?
    Hardware: Nokia E61i
    Firmware: v.2.0633.65.01, RM-227
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Kind regards.

  • E61i WPA Wlan not working

    Hi,
    I have D-Link WLan router.
From my E61i I am unable to connect.
currently the WLAN router supports WPA mode.
My E61i trying for long to connect.....
if there is no password protection then its working fine.
    what could be the reason.
Should I change it to WEP mode?
    sudipta

I think u should add the WLAN MAC address to the router.
I had the same problem with me in my company and the tech specialist told me to add the mac address to the router in order ot use the wi-fi

  • E61i weird WLAN behaviour

I recently updated the firmware on the E61i and have noticed a few quirks with the WLAN behaviour.
I'm using the phone in a university where there are a lot of WiFi access points dotted around with the same names. The phone is setup to access email accounts via IMAP at regular intervals, using a Access Point Group setup.
I always have WLAN Scanning on for that purpose.
This all works fine (and it checks the email regularly), but when it does, it adds a dummy WLAN access point to the scan list. If I click on the 'Search for WLAN' option while it's connected to the email server the list will for example contain two access points one called 'University' which is defined (and has the blue circle next to it), but another also named 'University' without a blue symbol.
It might sound like a cosmetic thing, but since this 'dummy' access point appears first in the list it causes problems using the WLAN at the same time. If I click on 'Continue Web Browsing' the phone gets confused and asks me to define an access point: despite being connected to one and asking to use it!
Other applications seem to be a bit confused by it, but it's not as clear cut as the example above. I can reproduce it by using 'Search for WLAN' (no duplicate) then opening the mail app and forcing connection and again trying 'Search for WLAN' (instant broken duplicate).
Very odd - and didn't happen on previous firmware.
Anyone seen this or know a fix?

Just a quick update: this behaviour happens on other WLAN networks even where this only one access point. Connecting to email creates duplicate dummy entries in the WLAN search list.
Attempting to connect via the dummy entries gets an 'already connected' error. Unfortunately there is no way to tell the dummy from the real (although it always shows max connection strength).
    Very, very, odd.

  • E61i "No WLAN Network Found"

OK, so I bought this E61i at the beginning of November and for the first month it was great. I was amazed at how easy it was to connect to home WLAN and any other open WLAN for that matter.
Then for no reason one day it says "No WLAN network found". I've made no changes to my home network and I know its working because both my laptop and desktop operate on WLAN.
I tried using the connection wizard several times to set up a connection but got the same results "No WLAN network found".
So then I called Nokia support. They asked what version of firmware I had. According to the person on the phone I was up to date but he had me download and install it again. This did not fix the problem still "No WLAN network found".
So I called back and explained the situation and I was told that there must be something wrong with my phone and that I should send it in for warranty repair. So I send the phone to the Nokia repair place somewhere is Alabama.
After about two weeks I get the phone back with a repair slip saying that the phone has been repaired by updating the firmware (which by the way I had already done). Of course when I tested the phone I get the same results "No WLAN Network Found".
So I called Nokia Support (which at this point is a contradiction in terms as they were of very little help) and was told to return the phone to Nokia warranty repair so that it could be brought to the Quality Assurance Managers attention.
I have to say that this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. I mean I have to send the thing at my expense (not cheap by the way) and now I have to send it back again.
What could be causing the phone to not detect any WLAN? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Up to this point nobody has been able to help. I've decided to send it back to Nokia and give them another shot at fixing the phone. I really have no other choice.
I bought the phone at TigerDirect.com and they have an agreement with Nokia that they don't do exchanges. They will only send the phone off for repair within the first 30 days. After that, I'm on my own. Since the phone didn't start acting up until after the 30 day mark I'm out of luck there.
I'm really not happy about sending the phone back to Nokia again as they didn't fix it the first time. So, My confidence level in them is much less than ideal.
I just have this sinking feeling that I may be doing something wrong with the phone (setting-wise) that started this whole mess in the first place, and that it's something simple. I just don't know what it is and noone has been able to help. Not even Nokia support. It's frustrating! I can't help but think that I might have been better off with my second choice the HTC Touch.

  • E61i - will not auto-connect to WLAN for SIP

Although my SIP client is set to "always on," the phone will not connect to a WLAN network. If I go into the SIP profile settings, change it to "as needed," then change it back, the phone will prompt me and connect.
Does everyone else's E61i behave this way? I don't have a sim card in the phone right now... do you think that could be it?
I have my Gizmo Project account set up and have made and received calls successfully, even with my Grandcentral account.
    Thanks very much for reading.

    No, Hyundai Veloster.
Funny, cause I did see the forum on a subaru.
It's connecting... I just have to do it every time I get in my car. I had no problem with the razor connecting automatically.

  • Which has better WLAN reception: E51 or E61i

i was astonished with the great wlan reception auality of the E51 (compared to the weak n80ie w could not detect any wlan while same time e51 detected 3 networks!!!!?????)
and i wonder if the e61i have the same good wlan reception as e51 or better or worse??
i prefer the e61i to buy but i am afraid of its wlan reception quality being a dissapointment as my n80
i would be grateful if somebody help me

Most Nokia Wlan enabled phone uses the same WIFI(rcvr/trxtr) chips, it's the placement of its antenna & facia of the phone that hampers the transmission & reception!
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

  • E61i is keeping WLAN connection after VoIP call

I've just upgraded from E61 to E61i, upgraded phone firmware to 2.06 and... I'm very disappointed about some "improvement" in the Internet telephone. My SIP profile is the same as it was in E61, registration mode "When needed". The phone would register to SIP service and make calls okay. However, if a call wasn't answered and I terminate it with the "End" key, I can't drop WLAN connection. I would go to Internet telephone and disconnect from the service, SIP telephone icon would disapper but WLAN icon would be still showing. There is no way to get rid of WLAN connection, even if I'd drop it manually in connection manager it would re-appear in a second or so. The only way to disconnect is by switching phone off/on.
What's amazing, if a call was answered, everything would be working as it should: once I disconnect from the service in the Internet telephone, both SIP and WLAN icons would disappear.
    Any ideas?

I think it's a bug, too! I don't know how to repeat the upgrade process (the Nokia Upgrade says my firmware is up-to-date) but anyway, the upgrade process terminated normally... I don't think the problem is there.
Note that the problem only occurs when I terminate VoIP call with the "End" key. If the call was answered and terminated by remote hangup, everything's fine.
I never had such a problem with E61. In fact, I never had to use the "Internet telephone" application on E61. When I wanted to disconnect from SIP proxy, I just went to Connection Manager and terminated WLAN connection there.

  • Nokia E61i WLAN Problem

I'm having a problem with WLAN on my phone. It works everywhere except at my house. When I scan for WLAN at home, it doesn't find my network. But when I'm out somewhere and scan, it works. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? My friend came over and he was able to find my home network on his N95, but no go on my E61i!

    Hi,
is your AP hidden? Try broadcasting the ssid. Also, try changing the channel to 1, 6 or 11.

  • E61i (older smartphone) and using WIFI/WLAN

    Greetings --
At home, I know people who have a WLAN network without password. I told the guy I got this smartphone and he said I could use his internet. So far so good, when im close to my window downstrairs, im able to read my mails and go on websites like facebook. No key is required.
However, At my second home, there are many secured WLAn networks around.
Heres where the problem comes in:
The smartphone only allows me to insert a WEP- password once. So I got it wrong, and now everytime I select that WLAN for a source to get on the internet, it doesnt ask me for a password. This is what happends: I choose the WIFI, it tells me "connecting" - then a message drops in that goes something like "No respond from gateway" im trying to translate it to english, but its the same thing though. It either gives me Times out or no responds. I don't think its the range. Its most likely around 70% strenght.
How do I allow myself to insert the correct key once again so I can get online?
I hope it makes a little sence. Any more intelligent people who can tell me what to do?

    Fomindil wrote:
Isn't it because I gave the wrong key? Now it doesn't ask me the key anymore when I try to connect... it connects then gives me the "no reaction from gateway" error
In options I see the key as "****".
I assume its the one I tried, and its now stored, but I cant delete it so I can try again
The key is oke, because you are already connected, but the router has no internet connection (Gateway, Accesspoint.)

  • I love my e61i... (an American's perspective + a f...

Folks, I've had my e61i for a few days now. I bought an import unit for use on Cingular (AT&T). I chose the e61i because of its messaging capabilities and nonsense-free, meat-and-potatoes functionality. No silly games, no garish skins, etc. And I am not a business user! I just wanted a good phone with a powerful contact manager. Nice additions would be 3G (for the future) with a good web browser. Pure perks would be a camera with video capability. The e61i fit the whole spectrum!
Previously, I'd been using a RAZR from "the competition". I was an early adopter of the RAZR and I regretted it after only a few hour. What a terrible phone! It's a gorgeous physical design, but the software is absolute garbage!
Then I had a Treo. Much better phone than the RAZR. But it broke. First mobile I've ever had break. Messaging was squirrely, though, and email was practically unusable.
Being a first-time user of a Symbian/S60 phone, I was unsure what to expect. I can tell you that after using this thing for email and messaging for a few days, I am sold on S60! I only had a few minor issues I needed to resolve (such as importing my self-signing CA's root certificate into the device so that it would not pester me due to an untrusted cert when retrieving my IMAP mail with TLS).
However, I do have a few questions...
    1. Mail for Exchange put up handy "you have x new messages" on the standby screen, but regular mailboxes don't do this. At least, I can't find out how. Is this a setting somewhere?
    2. Customizing the standby screen. Is this possible? There are application shortcuts up there -- I'd like to change those to applications that *I* use.
    3. "Access Point Groups" are great, but they don't seem to be configurable for the web browser. In the web browser, I can't select an Access Point Group for access; I only have access to WLAN and available packet networks from my carrier. I've noticed that many downloadable apps don't recognize Access Point Groups either.
    4. Where are all the good open-source/freeware apps? I've searched, but all of the software sites seem to be pushing the same handful of apps that are commercial or fake-freeware (aka trialware)
    5. In my car (with has bluetooth hands-free), my RAZR and Treo would display signal-strength on the car's LCD in the center console. With the e61i, I just have a little icon that seems to indicate that I'm on a network (the typical key-shaped glyph). Is this normal? (Conversely, with the e61i, my custom ringers are played through the speakers when I receive calls -- something the RAZR or Treo did not do at all.)
My only real complaint for Nokia has to be regarding some of the human factor issues... Name, I'd love to see more common functions available quickly with fewer button presses. A perfect example would be when I read an SMS. If I press the center button, the default action is to go into a "Call" menu. This is not really intuitive as I am in a text messaging context. The first option should be "Reply". As it is now, I have to arrow-down away from "Call" in order to select "Reply" and then select again. That's quite a few button presses!
One area where Nokia's really hit the nail on the head is in the multimedia message composer. If I go to "Insert New" and select picture of video, the whole process is seamless! I go to the camera, take a pic, and if I am not happy with the photo I've taken, I can just keep going until I get it right. It's all kept in the context of composing a multimedia message. The camera app doesn't take my back to a main menu somwhere, or put me in a confusing place. It's all fluid and seemless!
Other than that, so far so good. The battery lasts quite a while, the keyboard works well, the apps are solid, and the messaging is simply amazing!

I've never used any of the E Series and have often wondered how they stack up compared to their N Series counterpart !
I can say from the freeware Symbian 60 side of things - precious few (useful !) applications exist. It's one of the reasons why I've downloaded Nokia's own freeware development environment (as I'd also like to get back into programming), but unfortunately I never get round to kicking a project off !
    Regards,
    Edward

  • E61i browser can't login to Friendster, E65 can, W...

here's the case, my sister use E65 and connect through our WLAN at home and able to login to friendster.com website. Whilst i'm using E61i, at the login page, it just refresh the page again and again after click on the login button.

anyone has the same problem? my sister like to change to E61i because of the big screen and built-in k/b but after knowing this problem, she still stick with E65 at the moment
    cheers,

I just downloaded JDeveloper 3.2 and
    re-compiled and deployed my program,
and the problem has gone away! Yahoo!
I got it working 10 minutes before I had

  • FIRST CHARGING TIME FOR NOKIA E61i BATTERY

Hi everybody, please i like to know how long i can charge my Nokia E61i before use. I mean the first charge.
    Thanks.

    hello darry,
yes, that's what the vendors use to suggest me, otherwise the battery may not reach it's full potential. I had no problems with batteries till now.
My E65 also has a Li-Polymer battery, I first charged it for 14 hours (they reccomend 12 to 16) and it works for 6-7 days in normal use (Bluetooth and WLAN off, about 40 min talking/day + 50 sms's/day + occasional web browsing via WLAN)
I think mine really lasts longer than some of the people who posted here some problems regarding battery life.

  • Hellp on Nokia E61i associating with Cisco WLC 4402

I met some problem with associate Nokia's dual mode mobile phone E61i with Cisco WLC 4402, hope someone can help me on it:
    I setup a VOICE WLAN in 4402(v5.0.148), Layer2 security is WPA1+WPA2, Key management using 802.1x, WPA1 policy enable both TKIP and AES, Radius server using ACS engine(v4.1.1.23)(enable PEAP-MSCHAPv2);
I can use my laptop to join this WLAN(my laptop configure with PEAP/MSCHAPv2, WPA-TKIP, not validate server certificate), but can't let E61i join it, each time it will remind me “unable to connect, WPA authenticate failed).
In E61i, I select WPA/WPA2 as WLAN security mode, enable EAP-PEAP, under EAP-PEAP, I enable EAP-MSCHAPv2; however under Cipher, there's a lot of options such as “RSA,3EDS,SHA”, “RSA,AES,SHA”, but there's no TKIP, I have tried to enable all of them and tried only enable those items which include AES, but I failed each time with the same reminder “unable to connect, WPA authenticate failed”. I checked ACS's failed log, there's no record; In 4402, there also have no record.
If I change the security to open or static WEP for VOICE WLAN, then the E61i can connect to the WLAN.
I think the problem maybe relate to encryption or certificate, right now I just do the test in lab, not in customer's real environment, so I use ACS to generate a self signed certificate and installed it in ACS.
Pls. help to point me what I need to adjust to make it work. Thanks!

    Hello,
CCKM Key Management mode on Nokia E61i phone can be used
against Cisco LWAPP AP's with TKIP encryption
Nokia E61i (and other E-series WLAN enabled phones) are supporting CCKM key management method with both dynamic WEP and TKIP ciphers.
On the phone configuration, 802.1X security mode needs to be in use in order to enable CCKM support. WPA/WPA2 security mode on the phone is dedicated to standards based WPA and WPA2 methods and it does not allow usage of proprietary CCKM key management method.
Phone's 802.1X security mode does not mean that phone would only support dynamic WEP encryption method in this mode although in contexts term "802.1X" may be attached to pure dynamic WEP (legacy / pre WPA era)security methods.
802.1X security mode can be seen on Nokia Eseries phones as sort of an "everything with EAP based authentication is allowed" mode, meaning that following key management and cipher configurations are supported:
    - WPA-Enterprise  = WPA Key Management (EAP based authentication) with TKIP encryption
    - WPA2-Enterprise = WPA2 Key Management (EAP based authentication) with AES encryption
    - Mixed WPA/WPA2-Enterprise = I.e. WPA/WPA2 Mode Migration WPA2 Key Management (EAP based authentication) with AES (for unicast data) and TKIP (for multicast data) ciphers
    - 802.1X dynamic WEP = legacy (pre-WPA era) 802.1X based dynamic WEP (EAP based authentication with dynamic WEP encryption)
    Supported:
    - CCKM with WEP = CCKM Key Management (EAP based authentication) with dynamic WEP encryption
    - CCKM with TKIP = CCKM Key Management (EAP based authentication) with TKIP encryption
    Not supported:
    - CCKM with AES = CCKM Key Management (EAP based authentication) with AES encryption
Please note that CCKM-AES mode (CCKM Key Management with AES cipher) is not working properly due to some incompatibilities between Cisco and Nokia implementations thus it must not be listed as a supported combination on the current Nokia E-series devices. We are also seeing CCKM-Fast
Re-authentication failures with Cisco autonomous AP's when AES encryption is used although initial authentication to autonomous AP's is successful. Nokia is currently working with Cisco to get CCKM-AES based authentications and roaming working properly with both LWAPP and autonomous Cisco AP's.
Also note that Nokia E-Series does not support Cisco proprietary CKIP/CMIC encryption/data integrity methods. CKIP/CMIC is supported at least by Cisco autonomous AP's and it seems to be available also
at least on LWAPP AP version 4.1.171.0.
CCKM on E-Series devices has been tested against Cisco LWAPP (ver. 4.1.171.0) and it works when TKIP encryption is in use (WPA Policy + TKIP encryption in Cisco LWAPP configuration terms).
In practice this means Cisco LWAPP is configured in a following manner: WLAN -> Edit -> Security->
    Layer 2 Security = WPA+WPA2
    WPA+WPA2 Parameters:
    -WPA Policy = enabled
-WPA Encryption = TKIP enabled, AES disabled
    -WPA2 policy = disabled
    -Auth.Key Mgmt = CCKM

I just discovered that the E61i don't see WLAN Network running on Planet WAP 802.11g router. Otherwise it works perfectly with another WLAN's.
There is no problem with a E61, it does find this WAP router and can connect to. It is an open network, no encryption.
