Wlan on N80 problems!
Hi! I have noticed some problems with the N80s Wlan capabilities! Sometimes i have no problem what so ever to connect to a Wlan, i just choose the connectionpoint from the list connecting to a webpage and it connects. However, several times now it wont connect. I choose the connection point and it tryes to connect, but after a few seconds i receive a error message where it says something like; the wlan could not be found! This happens both when there is a WEP encryption (and i have the key) and also where there is no encryption. I have tried this on atleast 10 different W-lan networks, the only one that worked was my neighbours, until he put on WEP encryption
The other networks have been in town in different malls and cafe´s and so on and have all been free networks to use. So my question is, is there any easy way to configure the phone to be receptive to most Wlans or do i as a connecting user have to set up each connection point manually, even if i dont know what the settings should be? I could include that i have called nokia about this, and not very surpricingly they told me that they can only inform me about the basic phone settings, everything else such as connecting to a Wlan, have to be done by my self, gahh!
Cheers all!
Just out of curiosity, remove the security from your router and see if the N80 sees it.

Hi!
I just bought my new N80 on monday and was very excited about the WLAN feature. (That was the main reason I had when compared to N73)
But.. When I came home and should try the WLAN feature the phone only returned "Internal WLAN Error". If I tried again to connect (or some other functionality too dont remember what) the phone rebooted itself. This happend all the time. I went back to the store with the phone and received a new one today to try, but the same problem with that phone.
Does anyone knows whats wrong? Is there any hidden logs on the phone that can help me further?
My WLAN:
- Netgear WGT624Tv2 (Firmware V4.2.10_1.0.1)
- MAC Restrictions (Yes, my phone is added)
- WPA-PSK (this is a key with localized chars, could that be a problem?)
I give this phone a try until friday, if I don't get it to work by then, I most probarly will change it to an N73 to avoid frustration.
Thanks,
--RuneHi! I'd just tested to remove the localized chars and other chars i'd suspected, and yes, the telephone is not reporting Internal WLAN error anymore.. But sadly the story it's not over there
After lots of testing it would still not work.. After some testing the problem appeared as a quite irritating bug in the phone.
When writing *#62209526# to retrieve the mac key the telephone reports wrong!
The telephone reported: **:01:6b:c8:42:**
While the correct was: **:16:bc:84:02:**
(the stars indicates equal numbers)
This is quite a serious bug and cause lots of testing sadly..
But now, when this is discovered the LAN works as expected. So.
My advise:
- Do NOT use localized chars in the WPA-PSK key
- If you relay on MAC control, do not rely on the reported mac from the device.. Run your wlan router/switch without MAC control to retrieve the correct MAC address...
Cheers,

N80 Problem. Pls Help!!!!
My N80 has a big problem. After installing the latest firmware V5.0719.0.2 RM-92 through nokia updater, I cant hear sound from my ear piece. The keytone sound has gone eventhough is activited in the profile. I can only use the loudspeaker to hear sound and voice from call.
Is it the firmware problem or my hardware????
If it is the firmware problem, how can I reinstall the previous version?
Pls help!!!Yes, that sounds just like a worn ribbon cable. Perhaps you should get it replaced. I am not sure where you are but supposedly it only costs RM50 (€12)to replace in Malaysia, so not too expensive.

Nokia n80 problem with bluetooth
hello all
i have an n80 which i have given to my mother.
there seems to be a problem with bluetooth. i can connect it to my laptop by bluetooth and use the connection to browse the phone and transfer files but for some reason when i try to sync with outlook the connection always fails, all the time, no matter what.
can anyone think of any reason for this?
i have tried looking for firmware updates as i havent used the handset for 18mths but i cant find the pc cable so it wont identify the phone when i run a search.
any suggestions (apart from find the cable!) will be appreciatedNot being technically qualified enough on specifications of Bluetooth 3 all I can say is that Bluetooth SDP = Service Discovery Protocol seems to be absent fron N8, whereas it is present on say 5800XM and N97 Mini which appear to behave faultlessly with Toyota Bluetooth unit if this sheds any light.
Happy to have helped forum with a Support Ratio = 42.5 -
Another N80 PROBLEM (I think?)
i was stupid enough to get an N80 on ORANGE... eversince the phones constantly connecting to orange internet without even a warning!
has anyone else had this problem or do you think its the sim
is there anything i can do to fix it!Seraphin,
Dont know what your problem is but you seem to constantly be giving insults to people who dont conform to your ideas or suggestions here.
I have spoken to many people who are not happy about the operator firmware because of problems it gives them because of restrictions and the way that the operator configures the phone so that you have to use their sevices, especially in the begining withought realizing and actualy being charged a large amount of money for these services.
I made one suggestion that somebody can take or not, its up to them, not you..the suggestion wasnt meant for you.
I know many people who have upgraded from network specific firmware to non network specific firmware, and some of those upgrades were done at Nokia sevice centers and the warantees on those phones are still intact. This rightly or wrongly has been explained to them by the NSC and if there is a problem with warantee then this is the problem of the NSC that the upgrade was made.
please keep your personal insults to yourself, or as I have suggested to you before PM me and I will answer you directly, as you keep telling us to the point that its getting boring, these forums are for help and advice, I dont see insults either helpull or good advice.

Cisco 876w: wlan client - routing problem
I configured a Cisco 876w to connect to an existing WLAN as a client. Now I would like to connect 3 PCs to the 876w which should be able to access the internet via the 876w.
Problem:
Being at the console (ssh) of the 876w, I can ping hosts in the internet (even with their name like www.google.com) but when I'm using a client PC, I can't... What am I missing here? Could it be a NAT problem?
Config:
Internet <---> DSL Router 192.168.1.1 (and WLAN AccessPoint) <---> Cisco 876w (gets IP per DHCP, VLAN1 IP: 10.10.10.1) <---> PC (10.10.10.101)

When my N80 has an 02 pay-as-you-go sim card in, I get a "General: System Error" every time I try to read an SMS message. This effectively hangs the phone and I have to remove the battery to stop the beeping and carry on the error causes.
If I put in my Telstra sim card, then there is no problem (even with the same messages).
I used the Nokia Software updater to confirm that the firmware was current (it is) but tried reinstalling it all anyway, which made no difference.
Any clues as to what I can do to correct this problem? My N80 was purchased in Singapore, and is not under contract to any UK service provider. Is it something to do with the sim having to be registered for the 3g network? I'm sure somebody had the same problem when they first got an N80 as the sim supplied was not 3G
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?
Life's too important to take seriously.
Nokias I've owned 3210, 3310, 6100, 7650, 6600, 6680, 6630, N80, N95
I'm a 26 year old boy BTW -
Hi - okay found this other problem
when reading emails and sometimes writing or reading texts, as soon as you scroll down to read or write these messages, the first 1 and 1/2 letters of a line dissapear!! yes thats right, 1 and 1/2 characters vanish!
so you cant actually read the message properly!
does anyone know what the hells going on?
this happens all the time... its driving me insane!
as an example, this is a text i got today
(obviously i cant show you what half of a letter looks like, but you can imagine)
(obviously i cant show you what half of a letter looks like, but you can imagine, just cut some of the letters in half and you can maybe think what its like)

my phones in order of appearance : (starting 3 years ago!) Sony CMD-Z1 plus, Motorola timeport, Nokia 3310, Nokia 3410, Sony Ericsson T300, Sharp GX10i, Sharp GX30i, Sagem My-X-2, Sony Ericsson V800, Sony Ericsson P900, Samsung D500, Sharp 902, Nokia N80 (got mugged by 4 20 year olds). Motorola V3, Sony Ericsson K610i, Samsung D800, LG Chocolate, Nokia N70!
I change phones a lot, have had 11 different handsets in 2006!! -
My customer is using WLC4400(4.0.179.11) and LAP1130(12.3jx1). Before converting IOS to LWAPP, the WLAN service is not problem.
But after changing to LWAPP based, the customer is complain about disconnecting problem.
Intel centrino and other vendor's wlan cards are dropping, cisco wlan cards are no problem.
After all we have to fall back to IOS version. Is there any Bug report about WLC4400?There are some issues with the Intel adapters. I would try downloading the latest driver version to see if that helps. You can navigate to the Intel support page and view the documented disconnect issues.

NCS WLAN Configuration Template Problems
Hi All,
I'm trying to set up WLAN Configuration templates on our new NCS server. The version of NCS is 1.1.1.24 and the version of our WLC is 7.2.103.0. I have two problems:
1. I do not see an option for AAA Override. Has this been renamed to something else in NCS?
2. I do not see a way to assign a WLAN ID in the template. This is important as I use it as a RADIUS attribute in our ClearPass guest wireless service.
Thanks,
JasonYeah, it's a bit hidden.
For the AAA Overide, it's actually under the Security > AAA Servers.
As for setting the WLAN ID, this is not a configurable option from NCS. It will just build the next one that is available.

Steve

Nokia n8 wlan wifi connectivity problems
I purchased Nokia N8 about 2 months ago. Lovely phone, camera etc. However I am having serious issues with wlan/wifi. I have set up my phone to connect only to wifi or wlan. I believe I have all the settings correct. But when I try to connect to the web I keep getting the message that connection charges will be incurred etc and when I click on it goes online using my phone internet ie O2 wap service or my O2 internet service. Therefore I am being charged even though I have connected to wifi. I have tried everything but this is getting really annoying. I am abroad at the momen and my hotel has free wifi etc. Even when I have gone into my O2 store I might aswell be talking to the wall. No good. I should have purchased an Apple I4. Can someone please help me.
Solved!
Go to Solution. For all people experiencing problems with N8 (and some C series phones) and WLAN connections : Is your router a Linksys, Alcatel, Thompson or Speedtouch?
I had a Speedtouch 585 router v7 and couldn't connect to my home WiFi, but could connect at my friends' Wi-Fi's. I tried renaming the SSID with no blanks, manually setting the IP's and DNS, but the problem persisted. And the problem was the router. Since the firmware upgrade, the QoS (Quality of service) parameter cannot be tampered with. You have to turn it off manually. To do so, do this :
1) Open a command line window (start-->accessories-->command line OR start-->run--> type "cmd")
2) type telnet 192.168.1.254 and press enter (this was the router's IP address in my case, it may be 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.0.1) (If it doesn't connect right-click the connection icon at the bottom of the screen-->properties-->TCP/IP and note the IP address)
3)enter your username and press enter (default admin)
4)enter your password and press enter (default <blank>)
5)the router command line logo should appear. Type wireless and press enter
6)type qos and press enter
7)type config mode disabled and press enter
8)type saveall and press enter
9)type exit and press enter
Find your WiFi in your N8 as usual (delete any previous access points of your WiFi if any) and set it as first in priority (in N8 : settings-->connectivity-->settings-->network destinations-->internet)
You are ready !

Accessing WLAN with N80 failed
Hi all,
I'm trying to let my N80 IE connect to my offices WLAN. While trying to connect I got a "WPA verification failed". Does anyone know the reason for this failure?
Abel
Background:
I have been playing around with the settings. I added a new 'Access Point' for my office, and set its 'WLAN security mode' to WPA/WPA2. Entering the 'WLAN Security sett.' I entered:
- WPA mode: EAP
- EAP plug-in settings: EAP-PEAP (deselected what was already there, and moved EAP-PEAP to the top)
- TKIP encryption: not allowed (we do not use a temporal key)
EAP-PEAP is configured as:
- User certificate: not defined
- CA certicicate: not defined (our certificate is not in the list, we use a private one)
- User name in use: from certificate
- User name: my user name as used on the office domain
- Realm in use: user configured
- Realm: the domain as used in the office
- Allow PEAPv0 .. v1: all yes
EAP-MSCAPv2 is configured as:
- User name: my user name as used on the office domain
- Prompt password: yes
- Password: the password used to log in into the office domain
A colleague checked the log file when I tried to log in, and no entry existed for a mobile trying to access the wlan.WPA and EAP works great with the N80 - dont worry
I have tested and runs alot og Nokia Phones with WiFi and EAP etc.
I currently uses a N80 fw 4.0707.0.7, and there are a v5 fw also.
I sugguest you get the 4.07
You subject informs about WPA but you have set your Security mode: 802.1x
Change this to:
Security mode: WPA/WPA2
Then you should be good.
Also verify the status: hidden/public this is important
If you can see the SSID in the WLAN Wiz then its public SSID.
Try clearing the username in the certificate setup/PEAP
also try different comination of DOMAIN/USERNAME, DOMAIN\USERNAME, DOMAIN@USERNAME etc
But I would think that you do not need username in the GENERAL page under EAP-PEAP
You need username under EAP page/EAP-MSCHAPv2
I assume you have the certificate installed on the handset.

Hello all!
I'm a new Nokia N80 owner.. I've used SE's for the past 6 years and thought it was time to move to a smarter phone..
Well.. I've had the phone a month and it's all gone wrong, several times.
Firstly my photos stored on my phone and on my 1 gig memory card were no longer showing up on the phones gallery and the only way to access them was to view through the File Mgr. application. This would take forever and a day to load... but eventually they did.
I thought the smart thing to do would be to upload the latest firmware.. I did this and the phone died a horrid death giving me the 'Contact retailer' message after booting up.
I tried the hard reset etc and nothing worked so I took it to carphone warehouse who told me it would be ready to collect free of charge in 24 hours.
I returned the very next day to be told the phone had been sent away and could take up to 4 weeks.
Anyway, last week Thursday I received my phone back and woopie, it turns on and functions.. only.. it functions to the extent it did before i tried and failed the firmware update.
So.. my current problems:
I cannot view images / movies in the gallery
When I use the datacable it automatically disconnects itself just toward the end of doing whatever action it is doing.. such as:
I tried to move the images from my phone to my desktop pc .. it moves the files then brings up the window to tell me it is deleting the files from the phones card memory.. around the 75% mark it tells me connection to the phone has been lost.. even if I do not touch the phone, the pc and am in another room! My USB sockets are fine it is not them!!
PLEASE!!! Any help would be most gratefully received and I would do a big smile.
Ta.

Firstly my photos stored on my phone and on my 1 gig memory card were no longer showing up on the phones gallery .. This would take forever and a day to load... but eventually they did
Don't understand this: I've never had this problem with my N80 - even using old firmware.
My guess - and that's all it is - is that maybe you had too many pictures for the gallery to cope with (the fact it takes a long time to open the directory in File Manager suggest you have a LOT of files in there) ..

When I use the datacable it automatically disconnects itself just toward the end of doing whatever action it is doing..
Usually this is because the connector at the bottom of the phone is dire. Basically, if you so much as breath near the PC, the cable or the phone you get a brief interruption to the connection and everything fails.
Sounds like this may not be your problem, though. You could try uninstalling and re-installing the cable drivers on your PC, but I don't hold out much hope.
I think I would go for using Bluetooth (slow, though) or a card reader (fast, if you have one but no good for synching contacts etc).

In this case I would simply disable the delete option in the Image Store Settings and delete the pictures using File Manager on the phone - if you use Mark All and delete it's fast to do. -
N80 problems after last FW update
I have the following phone:
Type:RM-92 (N80-1)
Code:0527480
FW version:V 4.0707.0.7 (28-03-2007)
After upgrading to this firmware, I was faced with two rather irritating problems.
1) I've made a backup of the phone. After upgrading the FW, I restored the backup. Now, when I power up the phone, it says "Installing" after it boots up. Then, after a couple of seconds it says "Untrusted software found on memory card, install manually blah-blah". I installed all but one of these "untrusted" files, but I cannot remove from the list one which I no longer need. Application manager is set to allow all aplications and never check certificates online. Question is how to remove this sis file which I no longer need and which is, probably, causing this to happen.
And a mental note to Nokia, if they ever bother to read this - don't try to make the phone smarter than it should be - if I say I want to allow installation of all software, do not bother me with "untrusted" stuff.
2) a bigger problem is that service commands do not work. Tried entering them on the standby screen and from messaging/options, same thing happens. The phone says it's "requesting" the wanted data, but no reply from my service operator appears on the screen. It's not a probem with the operator, as other phones work correctly28-May-200710:23 PM

My iPad2 suddenly has all Email accounts Greyed out in Settings and none can be selected. The iPad2 did have it's password changed a couple of days ago. However changing it back to the original password does not fix it.
