WLC 2125 Upgrade

Hi guys, I have a customer with a WLC 2125, with the version 6.0.199.4 and I will now upgrade to the version 7.0.250.0 but i wondering if it´s possible to make a backup for the old image, (i already download the configuration, but not the image) It´s is possible via console or web?
Or it´s safety do the upgrade directly?
Thanks
Gonzalo

Hi,
As per my knowledge you can download old image from wlc. To get the same imgae its better to download from cisco.
Here is the link:

  • WLC 5508 upgrade

    Hi All,
    We currently have 4 x WLC 5500 (AIR-CT5508-K9) V01 and V02
So two in  one datacenter and the other two in another datacenter. They are connected via Mobility group to and BOYD open wifi with an Anchor WLC the other 1.
All four of them are 7.4.110.0 and the APs we use are AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9  and AIR-CAP2602I-E-K9.
We are looking to get 2700 or 3700 AP so we can use 802.11ac, but we need to upgrade all WLC to  7.6.130.0.
    1. is it a direct upgrade from  7.4.110.0 to 7.6.130.0?
    2. If I upgrade one datacenter one weekend and the other next weekend, during that week two WLC would be 7.4 and other two 7.6 would it break or cause issue with Mobility group to and BOYD open wifi with an Anchor WLC?
    3. Can any please provide step to step guide for the upgrade from 7.4 to 7.6?
    Many Thanks
    appreciate it :)

    Hi Rasika,
Many Thanks for your reply and help!
    1. In regards to Upgrade the FUS, is it required to be upgraded once the WLC are upgraded to 7.6 or is just good practice?
    2. Or I can I upgrade the FUS another time?

  • WLC Firmware upgrade

I am working on a firmware upgrade on WLC 5508 and WLC 2100 from 7.2.111.3 to 7.4.121.  I have 10 forign controllers and 2 anchor controllers.  My question are:
    (1) Should I upgrade the forign controllers first or anchor controllers first?
    (2) Should I or do I need to upgrade Cisco NCS, 1.1.1.24, after the WLC firmware upgrade?
    (3) SHould I or do I need to upgrade CIsco MSE to latest version?
    Thanks,

    (1) Should I upgrade the foreign controllers first or anchor controllers first?
    Does not matter the order.
Make sure you upgrade the FUS to 1.9.0.0 version as well
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_OL-31390-01.html
    (2) Should I or do I need to upgrade Cisco NCS, 1.1.1.24, after the WLC firmware upgrade?
Refer the below link (table 4) compatibility matrix, you should have NCS/Prime 1.3.x

    (3) Should I or do I need to upgrade CIsco MSE to latest version?
Refer the table 7 of the above link, you should have MSE 7.4.121.0 as well for compatibility

  • WLC Code Upgrade

We just got a WLC 4002 with 3.2.150.10 software version. I have followed a procedure to upgrade and I know I need to follow this path 3.2.150.10->4.1->4.2.176.0->5.2
However, I have tried to transfer the 4.1.185 on my controller and I get a
TFTP Failure while storing in flash!
    error.
Has anybody experience this?? any adive?

    1. You could be either using a TFTP server that could not support file transfers greater than 32 MB (if this is the case, go to http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html and use TFTP32).
    2. Looks like you were upgrading the firmware without upgrading the Bootloader (ER).
Using the same process as the firmware, download and install Bootloader (in the follwoing order)
AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-1-171-0-ER.aes before you install firmware 4.1.185. Then
AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-2-61-0-ER.aes and install AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-2-61-0.aes. Finally, install Bootloader
AIR-WLC4400-K9-5-2-157-0-ER.aes before you install the final 5.x firmware you want.
Sorry, it's a very long process but it's the only way.
    Have you seen this documentation:

  • WLC 2125 Rebooting

Hi guys, we are having some trouble with a WLC 2125 with only 6 APs, but like 40 clients trying to associate.
    Version: 5.1.151.0
The issue here is that the WLC reboots every 6 or 8 hours for no apparent reason. CPU is always at 0% - 1% and mem usage is at 35% - 40%. I've heard in this forums that this kind of WLC is not recommended for more than 20 clients.. so I don't know if we are over using the box.
Maybe is an issue of software version or something, but in cisco.com there is only one version for this model of controller.
I'm adding an attachment with the crash file:
    thanks!

Reboots usually occur to one of three reasons on a 2100 series controller. First is power. The power supply is very susceptible to power spikes and brownouts. If the power spikes, the controller will reboot. Second, memory leaks on the controller. When using Web Auth the controllers CPU and memory resources are consumed fairly quickly. If the code does not effectively release those resources the system will eventually crash. There will be a record of this in the Tech Support section under management on the controller. Third and lastly, thermal issues around the controller. This will show in the event logs as a warning that the controller has exceeded it temperature threshold. If it gets too hot it will shut down completely.
We are just completing the largest single deployment of 2100 series controllers in Cisco's history deploying of 200 2125s and a number of other 2100 series controllers and these are the major reboot issues we have seen.

  • AAA Authorization Fail between WLC 2125 & LWAP 1042n

In my Wireless environment, WLC 2125 is connected to a LWAP 1042n. The WLC is succesfully providing DHCP IP to the AP but is unable to discover it. All are connected. During debug mode following error message is encountered in WLC 2125, "AAA Authorization Fail....".
    Please suggest what to do.

  • WLC 4404 Upgraded to 7.0.235.3 (WPA HandShake Timeout) not availbale

    Greetings,
Just upgraded my Cisco 4404 WLC's to 7.0.235.3, the upgrade went just fine. My problem is when I either Telnet or SSH to my Lightweight AP's and run the "DOT11 WPA Handshake Timeout 1000" command the AP doesn't recognized this command. This is one of the reasons I upgrade my WLC's.I have several wireless printers that are passive and are heavily used and keep getting disassociated because they don't respond in time.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

that command is for IOS AP, not for the WLC.
    Q.    How do you change the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) handshake timeout   value on a Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) through CLI? I know I can do this on   Cisco IOS® Access Points (APs) with the dot11 wpa handshake   timeout value command, but how do you   perform this on a WLC?
    A. The ability to configure the WPA-Handshake timeout through the WLCs was       integrated in software release 4.2 and later. You do not need this option in       earlier WLC software versions.
These commands can be used to change the WPA Handshake timeout:
        config advanced eap eapol-key-timeout
        config advanced eap eapol-key-retries
The default values continue to reflect the WLCs current       behavior.
       - the default value for eapol-key-timeout is 1 second.
       - the default value for eapol-key-retries is 2 retries
Note: On IOS APs, this setting is configurable with the dot11           wpa handshake command.

Did you try to factory default the WLC and rebuild it from scratch?  You shouldn't have any issues when upgrading, but when you upgrade and the configuration gets corrupt, there is noting you can do, except to rebuild the WLC.  If this is part of an HA AP SSO setup, then you need to make sure you reset the peer and then the primary.  Question is.... are you running HA AP SSO and if not, is the WLC working fine after a reboot?

  • WLC firmware upgradation from 6.0.196.0 to 7.0.98.0

    Hi,
I have not come across to upgrade the IOS of WLC at any time .
Right now , I have WLC 6.0.196.0 and it is working fine but still if in case I need to upgrade to 7.0.98.0 or whichever is latest , What is the procedure ?
How to go about it ?
kindly suggest me for the same.

    Hi Vinod,
Sorry for the late reply.. this forum thingy is messed up.. suddenly this throws me off!! hav to re-login.. strange!! ok lemme get back..
Main image = The image helps you in getting the GUI and helps you in configuring through the CLI..
Boot  Loader image = Is almost equal to ROMMON version on switches!! ok lemme  explain u in WLC world.. When you reboot ur WLC, while rebooting if u  hit "Escape" then  you can see something like the Intial WLC config  wizard.. or while doing the PASSWORD recovery we select options 1 to 5..  this is called as Boot loader version..
The complex explanation is.. A boot loader, also called a boot  manager, is a small program that places the Operating System (OS) of a  computer into Memory. When a computer is powered-up or restarted, the  basic functions performs some initial tests.
lemme know if this answered your question and mark it as answered if so!!

  • Some C1242 Radios are disabled after WLC 5508 upgrade to 7.3.101.0

One week ago I use a WLC 5508 to place and replace another WLC 5508 with version 6.0.199.4, when I conect the new WLC all AP´s works OK only 10 dont work and not are recognizes from the WLC with version 7.3.101.0. The fail is the radios stay disabled. All ap´s are AIR-AP1242G-AK9 . See the image below, the only difference this ten AP´s are conected in switches cisco all the rest are connected in switches of ohter vendor.
If possible some command in the configuration is not neccesary and make the bad function?
This is tipically config apllied by the customer in they cisco switches
    interface   GigabitEthernet0/22
    description PB-RS-A22
    switchport access vlan 5
    switchport mode access
    switchport port-security
    switchport port-security aging time 2
    switchport port-security violation restrict
    switchport port-security aging type   inactivity
    macro description cisco-desktop
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
I reed some documents but i don´t found the right solution can any help me?
    Thank

Are the APs being powered through POE or perhaps an injector (if injector, do you have the injector override enabled for joined APs with their radios down?)  What's the disparity of the models; are all 1242s in this "down radio" state, or only the 1242s plugged in to the Cisco Switches?
When you say the 10 don't work and are not "recognized" by the WLC, are you indicating that they have not re-joined the newer WLC or are they joined but their radios are not operationally up?  Please clarify the state of these APs.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn73.html#wp965532
Please note that a version prior to 7.0.98.0 cannot be upgraded directly to 7.3.101.0 from the WLC perspective, but it's possible your 1242 AP's image (used from the 6.0.199.4 release) is not able to properly join and download code for the 7.3.101.0 WLC that was put in to place.  The 1242 APs in your scenario would still be running the old 6.0.199.4 image.
I'm curious what all is or isn't happening from the questions above, but you may need to load a newer recovery release on the 1242s to have them join properly - or - downgrade the WLC to a version that allows a direct upgrade from 6.0.199.4 such as 7.0.240.0.  Let the APs join the downgraded WLC and finish up any image downloads and re-join, then upgrade the WLC back to 7.3.101.0 (would recommend latest 7.3.112.0 instead) and see if they rejoin and radios are online.

  • WLC 5508 - upgrade image + H-REAP

    All, good day.
I have a bug reported (CSCsy23704) for the H-REAP functionality. This sunday I will perform an image upgrade to try to solve this issue.
What would it be the best image to go for?.
After the upgrade, what will happen with the APs?, should I reconfigure them or they will enter in contact with the WLC automatically?.
    Current image is 6.0.199.0
    The WLC is a 5508
    Thanks in advance!!

After you load the code on the WLC you can use the pre download feature. Tis will allow you to push the new image to the ap before you reboot.

  • WLC 5508 upgrade to software 7.6

    Hi,
I upgraded Cisco WLC from version 7.5 to 7.6, but unfortunately I lost connection to WLC. After upgrade I restarted the wireless controller but it didnt come up. The fiber port of WLC connnected to switch is showing down , down  but the service port is showing up. I cannot login through serice port also.
The controller is at remote location and I am at main office, I want to know does the configuration WLC had got lost after upgrade and why the fiber port is showing down, down in switch?
    Thanks.
    Shakeer

It is less than 90 days since we purchased the controller. How can I open a case ? When I am entering S/No it is showing not covered under service contract.
    1.  Send an email to [email protected]  Make sure the following details are included in the email:  S/N of the appliance, nature of the problem, your CCO login.
    2.  You'll receive a response saying that you are not entitled, so you need to scanned copy of the appliance's delivery receipt/docket, the appliance's purchase order.  Scan those and reply to this email.

  • WLC 2125 with 2x 1520 Mesh Points - Ethernet Bridging

Hi - I'm looking for assistance with a new Mesh set up we are deploying, the solutions consists of:
    1x Wireless LAN Controller 2125
    2x 1520 AP/Mesh Points
What we are trying to achieve is to bridge two networks together, I have followed the Cisco configuration guide and I simply can't get the traffic to cross from one side to the other. The WLC can see both 1520's on either side of the mesh network and I appear to have set it up right.
Here is how everything is set up:
    - Local network (Class B, 10.0.0.0/16) connected to Port 1 on the WLC.
    - 1520 is connected to Port 2 on the WLC via g0/0 with an IP address of 10.0.3.110 (management network, 10.0.3.111 for the wlan-management network) - this is set up as the RootAP, with ethernet bridging enabled and the bridging group set to rsqmesh.
    - 2nd 1520 is around 800ft away set up as a MeshAP with ethernet bridging enabled and the bridging group set to rsqmesh. Small 5-port switch (non-cisco) connect to g0/0 on this 1520 with a device attached which has the IP of 10.0.3.37.
    All help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Craig.

Bridging will not work if the RAP is directly connected to the controller. But CSCsk15792 is filed on this issue. If you put a switch between the controller and RAP traffic should start flowing.

  • Lost connection to 4402 WLC after upgrade

I setup a 4402 this evening an everything was going great. The unit had v4.2.130.0, I need to upgrade to v6.0.182.0.
The upgrade guide requires the following upgrade path v4.2.130.0 >  v4.2.176.0 >  v6.0.182.0.
I began with the upgrade to .176 and everything was fine. HTTPS / SSH2 was working fine. I could ping the WLC and see both ports from the neighboring switch (cdp neigh). Then I upgrade to ver 6.0.182.0 and I could no longer HTTPS / SSH2 to the WLC. CDP neigh on the connecting switch no longer recognized one of the uplinks.
I have the switch (a Cisco 4507R) configured with a port-channel to the two WLC ports (1 and 2), the WLC is configured with LAG enabled. The port channel was still up as were both ports and no errors in the switch log.
I checked (via Console) the WLC management vlan... that seemed fine. My IP info was fine... Im sure im just overlooking something very minor... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think after sitting here for so long and trying to find it, Im having tunnel vision.
    Thanks in advance!
    Rich

No, I didn't touch the boot strap, as per the instructions of a co-worker. I was wondering if this could be my issue.
I am unfortunately in NYC and the WLC is located in Ottawa, Canada, and no one is available patch the management port. Our " Standards" don't include the use of the management port so I didn't even have it connected.
Yes, I did have HTTP and Telnet disabled as per out "Standards".
As of right now I am dead in the water. I had a PC with Net Meeting setup, but the screen saver was never disabled. I went ot get a bite to eat, and yeah... now im locked out, what a night. Fortunately for me, this wasn't a production device. and the site didn't have wireless in the past.
